1 Introduction
Thank you for your purchase. The information contained in
this manual will help you receive maximum performance and
satisfaction from your sprayer and, if followed, reduce the
risk of injury from its use.
SAVE THIS MANUAL!
Have your authorized STIHL servicing dealer show you how
to operate your sprayer. All operating and servicing
personnel should be trained and familiarized with the proper
handling procedures for the chemical products being used,
as well as with first aid, emergency care, and liquid chemical
disposal regulations.
Observe all applicable federal, state and local safety
regulations, standards and ordinances.
Do not lend or rent the sprayer without this instruction
manual. Allow only persons who fully understand the
information in this manual to operate the sprayer.

1 Introduction
Because this sprayer is a battery-operated tool
for spraying chemicals, special safety
precautions must be observed to reduce the risk
of personal injury.
Read this instruction manual thoroughly before
use and periodically thereafter. Follow all safety
precautions. Careless or improper use of the
sprayer can cause serious or fatal injury. In
addition, read and follow the manufacturer's
instructions for the chemical products being
sprayed. Since such products may vary greatly
in handling/application requirements and risks,
the chemical product label is normally your best
guide for safe and effective use.

Read the chemical manufacturer's instructions and warnings
each time before mixing or using the chemical and before
storing or disposing of it. Observe all applicable federal,
state and local safety regulations, standards and

The chemical sprayed with your backpack sprayer may
contain toxic substances. Such chemicals can be dangerous
and cause serious or fatal injury to persons and animals
and/or severe damage to plants and the environment.

To reduce the risk of injury, follow the specified
safety precautions.
Read and follow all safety precautions in the
instruction manual. Improper use can lead to
serious or fatal personal injury or property
damage. In addition, read and follow the
warnings and instructions for the chemical
products being sprayed.
To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear
goggles that are rated to ANSI Z87.1 to protect
against droplet/splash hazards. @ 5.4.
Exposure to toxic chemicals can cause serious
or fatal injury. The operator and bystanders may
need a properly fitted respirator approved by
NIOSH/MSHA for the chemical being used. Read
and follow all warnings and instructions on the
chemical product label.
Always wear rubber, chemical-resistant boots.
Wear protective coveralls as recommended in
the warnings and instructions for the chemical
being used. If you are spraying overhead, or if
the spray may reach head height, wear a
protective head covering.
To reduce the risk of contact with any chemicals,
always wear rubber, chemical-resistant gloves.

5 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 Introduction
When using a battery-powered sprayer, basic precautions
should always be followed, including the following:

￭ To reduce the risk of fire, explosion, electric shock or other
personal injury, read and follow the important safety
instructions in this chapter. Additional important warnings
and instructions are provided in subsequent chapters of
this manual.
5.2 Intended Use
WARNING
￭ Use your backpack sprayer for spraying chemicals and
other liquid solutions to control pests and weeds in fruit,
flower and vegetable gardens, on trees and bushes, and
on other plants. Do not use it for other purposes since
misuse may result in personal injury or property damage,
including damage to the sprayer itself.
￭ Use only chemical solutions that are specifically approved
for use in pressurized sprayers by their manufacturer and
meet all safety regulations, standards and ordinances.
Never spray chemical solutions that are caustic,
corrosive, or poisonous.
￭ The sprayer is designed for outdoor use. It may be used
in greenhouses that are well-ventilated if the manufacturer
of the chemical being sprayed allows such use at the
concentration being applied. Always wear proper
protective equipment and follow the chemical
manufacturer's warnings and safety instructions.
￭ In all applications, the operator must be protected from
any harmful exposure through the use of proper eye and
respiratory protection, appropriate protection against skin
contact, and protection from ingestion through the nose or
mouth. Special precautions not specified here may be
necessary, depending on the chemical being sprayed
￭ Use the sprayer only as described in this manual.
– Never attempt to modify or override the sprayer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a sprayer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ This sprayer may be powered only by a STIHL AP series
battery.
Batteries, chargers and other accessories are sold
separately.
Never spray in the direction of other
persons, animals or property which
might be injured or damaged by the
spray solution. Keep bystanders away
when spraying.
To reduce the risk of injury or property damage
from unintended activation, remove the battery
any time the sprayer is not in use, @ 6.1.

5.3 Operator
WARNING
￭ Working with the sprayer can be strenuous. The operator
must be in good physical condition and mental health. To
reduce the risk of personal injury from fatigue and loss of
control:
– Check with your doctor before using the sprayer if
you have any health condition that may be
aggravated by strenuous work.
– Do not operate the sprayer while under the influence
of any substance (drug, alcohol or medication, etc.)
that might impair vision, balance, dexterity or
judgment.
– Be alert. Do not operate the sprayer when you are
tired. Take a break if you become tired.
– Do not permit minors to use the sprayer.
– Bystanders, especially children, and animals should
not be allowed in the area where the sprayer is in
use.
￭ According to STIHL's current knowledge, the electric
motor of this sprayer should not interfere with a
pacemaker.
– However, persons with a pacemaker or other
implanted medical device should consult their
physician and device manufacturer before operating
this sprayer.
5.4 Personal Protective Equipment
WARNING
￭ To reduce the risk of personal injury when working with
chemical agents:
– Always wear proper protective apparel and
equipment when filling, using and cleaning the
backpack sprayer.
– Always follow the chemical manufacturer's warnings
and instructions with respect to proper eye, skin,
nose, mouth and respiratory protection.
￭ To reduce the risk of eye injury:
￭ To reduce the risk of contact with any chemical agents
while filling, using or cleaning the sprayer, the operator
and bystanders may need a properly fitted respirator
approved by NIOSH/MSHA for the chemical being used,
protective coveralls or other protective equipment. Read
and follow all warnings and instructions on the chemical
product label.
– Observe all other recommendations for protective
apparel found in the chemical manufacturer's
product information.
– Change your clothing immediately if it becomes
contaminated with chemicals.
￭ Good footing is very important. To help maintain a secure
footing and reduce the risk of injury:
– Always wear goggles that are rated to
ANSI Z87.1 to protect against
droplet/splash hazards. Safety glasses
do not provide full protection.
– Wear a properly fitted respirator as
recommended on the product label for
the chemical being used. Breathing toxic
chemicals can cause serious or fatal
injury.
– Wear protective coveralls as
recommended on the product label for
the chemical being used. If you are
spraying overhead, or if the spray may
reach head height, wear a protective
head covering.
– Do not wear shorts, sandals, or go
barefoot.
– Always wear rubber, chemical-resistant
gloves.

5.5 Handling Chemicals
WARNING
￭ Chemicals can be harmful to individuals, animals and the
environment if improperly used. In addition, chemicals
that are caustic, corrosive or poisonous should not be
used in your sprayer. Carefully read the labels on
chemical containers prior to use.
￭ Chemicals are classified into categories of toxicity.
Pesticides regulated by the EPA, for instance, use signal
words to indicate the product's potential to make you sick.
"Caution" appears on pesticides found to be least harmful
to humans. "Warning" indicates a product that is more
poisonous than those in the "Caution" group. Pesticides
with the signal word "Danger" on the label are very
poisonous or irritating and should be handled with
extreme care. Finally, pesticides labeled "Danger -
Poison" are for restricted use only and generally must be
used under the supervision of a certified applicator.
￭ Similarly, the EPA rates herbicides with the signal words
"Caution," "Warning" and "Danger." Each category will
have unique handling characteristics. Familiarize yourself
with the characteristics for the category you are using.
￭ Mix only compatible pesticides and/or herbicides. The
wrong mixture can produce toxic fumes. When handling
chemicals and when spraying, make sure you are
operating in accordance with local, state, and federal
environmental protection rules and guidelines. Do not
spray in windy conditions. To help protect the
environment, use only the recommended dosage – do not
overuse.
￭ Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling chemicals or
while you are spraying. Never blow through nozzles,
valves, hoses or any other component by mouth. Always
handle chemicals in a well ventilated area while wearing
appropriate protective clothing and safety equipment. Do
not store or transport chemicals with food or medicines,
and never reuse a chemical container for any other
purpose. Do not spray materials into other containers,
especially food and/or drink containers.
￭ In case of accidental contact or ingestion of chemicals, or
in case of contamination of clothing, stop work and
immediately consult the chemical manufacturer's
instructions. If in doubt as to what to do, consult a poison
control center or doctor without delay. Have the product's
label available to read to or show the person you consult.
￭ Clean all chemical spills immediately. Dispose of any
residue in accordance with state or federal laws and
regulations.
￭ Keep chemicals out of the reach of children and other
unauthorized persons and away from animals. When not
in use, store chemicals in a safe place. Follow the
manufacturer's recommendations for proper storage.
5.6 Sprayer
WARNING
￭ To reduce the risk of electric shock:
– Do not immerse the sprayer in water or other fluids.
– Store the sprayer indoors.
￭ This battery-powered sprayer is intended only for spraying
chemicals and other liquid solutions. Use for other
purposes may increase the risk of personal injury and
property damage.
– Read and follow the operating instructions in this
manual for approved applications, @ 16.
￭ To reduce the risk of personal injury to the operator and
bystanders:
– Wear rubber/chemical-resistant boots
with non-slip soles. Never wear sandals,
flip-flops, open-toed or similar footwear.

￭ Although certain unauthorized attachments may fit your
STIHL sprayer, their use may be extremely dangerous.
Only attachments supplied by STIHL or expressly
approved by STIHL for use with this specific model are
recommended.
– Use only attachments supplied or expressly
approved by STIHL.
– Never modify this sprayer in any way.
– Never attempt to modify or override the sprayer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a sprayer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ If the sprayer is dropped or subjected to similar heavy
impacts:
– Check that it is undamaged, in good condition and
functioning properly before continuing work.
– Check that the controls and safety devices are
working properly.
– Check the container, cap and hoses for leaks.
– Check the LEDs for error messages, @ 11.
– Check that the battery has not been damaged.
Never use or charge a malfunctioning, damaged,
cracked, leaking or deformed battery.
– Never work with a damaged or malfunctioning
sprayer. In case of doubt, have the sprayer checked
by your authorized STIHL servicing dealer.
￭ If the sprayer or battery is damaged, not working properly,
has been left outdoors, exposed to rain or dropped into
water or other liquid, its components may no longer
function properly and safety devices may be inoperative.
To reduce the risk of personal injury and property
damage:
– Take the sprayer and battery to your authorized
STIHL servicing dealer to be checked before further
operation.
￭ Genuine STIHL replacement parts are specifically
designed to match your sprayer and meet safety and
performance requirements. Use of parts that are not
authorized or approved by STIHL may cause serious or
fatal injury or property damage.
– STIHL recommends that only identical STIHL
replacement parts be used.
5.7 Using the Sprayer
5.7.1 Filling the Container
WARNING
￭ To reduce the risk of injury from leakage of the spray
solution:
– Before using the sprayer with chemicals, fill the
container with fresh water; pressurize the sprayer
and practice spraying; check for leaks; when
thoroughly familiar with the sprayer operation, drain

attached and in good condition before pressurizing
the container.

other than with the integrated pump module.

– Use the sprayer only as described in this instruction

￭ Using a sprayer that is modified, damaged, improperly

and avoiding the hazards of combustible gases,

– Control chemical spray at the source where
possible.
– Use good work practices. Operate the unit so that
any wind or operating process does not blow the

a respirator approved by NIOSH/MSHA for the type

the particular chemical at issue, review the product
label and/or material safety data sheet for that

manufacturer/supplier. You may also consult your
employer, governmental agencies such as the EPA,
OSHA and NIOSH and other sources on hazardous

authorities, for instance, have published lists of
substances known to cause cancer, reproductive

9.1 Preparing the Sprayer for Operation
Before starting work:
► Fully charge the battery,@ 10.
► Place the sprayer on flat and firm ground or other solid
surface outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
► Connect the spray gun and lance, @ 12.1.1.
► Fill the container and check the system for any leaks,
@ 16.1.1.
► Put on the sprayer as a backpack, with both straps over
your shoulders. Adjust the shoulder straps as necessary
to achieve a comfortable and secure fit., @ 12.2.

10.1 Setting up the Charger
WARNING
Read and follow the safety precautions on the battery and
charger and all warnings and instructions that accompany
those products. To reduce the risk of short circuit, which
could lead to electric shock, fire and explosion, make sure
the charger and its components are dry and not damaged;
operate the charger indoors at an appropriate ambient
temperature.
WARNING
A typical household electric circuit is between 15 and 20
amps. A single STIHL AL 500 charger draws approximately
4.8 amps. A single AL 300 charger draws approximately
4.4 amps. To reduce the risk of fire from overloading an
electrical circuit:
► Ensure the electrical system is rated to withstand the
expected electrical draw before charging your battery.
► Charge multiple batteries one at a time or on separate
circuits, unless you know your circuit can handle the total
expected draw from multiple chargers.
WARNING
Since the charger heats up during the charging process, do
not operate the charger on a combustible surface or in a
location where combustible gases, liquids, vapors, dusts or
other materials and substances are present.
To set up the charger:
► Insert the plug (3) into a properly installed electrical
outlet (4) matching the voltage and electrical frequency
stated on the charger's rating plate.
The charger runs a self-test immediately after it is plugged
in. The charger LED (1) will glow green for about 1 second,
then it will glow red briefly before going out. Once the LED
goes out, the self-test is complete and the charger is ready
to charge the battery.

► Position the power supply cord (2) so that it will not be
stepped on, tripped over, come in contact with sharp
objects or moving parts or otherwise be subjected to
damage or stress.
10.2 Charging
WARNING
STIHL batteries contain safety features and devices which,
if damaged, may allow the battery to generate heat, rupture,
leak, ignite or explode. Never charge a malfunctioning,
damaged, cracked, leaking or deformed battery or use a
charger that has been damaged. Never insert a wet battery
or adapter. Never use a wet charger. Follow all product-
specific warnings and instructions accompanying your
battery and charger.
A battery is not fully charged when it ships from the factory.
STIHL recommends that you fully charge the battery before
using it the first time.
Operate the charger only indoors, in dry rooms and within an
ambient temperature range of 41 °F to 104 °F (5 °C to
40 °C).
The battery heats up during operation of the power tool. If a
hot battery is connected to the charger, it may be necessary
for it to cool down before charging starts. The charging
process begins only after the battery has cooled down
sufficiently.
Charging time depends on a number of factors, including
battery condition and the ambient temperature. For a
complete list of approximate charging times, see
www.stihl.com/charging-times.
To charge an AP battery:
► Push the battery (2) into the charger (3) until it stops.
The LED on the charger glows green when the battery is
charging.
The LEDs (1) on the battery glow green and show the
state of charge.
When the LEDs on the battery go out, the charging
process is complete and the charger will shut itself off. The
battery can be removed from the charger.
► Disconnect the power supply cord from the electrical
outlet when the charger is not in use for extended periods
of time.
► Charge STIHL AP series batteries only with genuine
STIHL AL 101, AL 300 or AL 500 series chargers.
11.1 STIHL AP Battery
11.1.1 Battery Status
Four LEDs show the status of the battery. These LEDs can
glow or flash green or red.

If one LED glows red continuously: the battery is
either too hot or too cold. Allow the battery to
warm up or cool down gradually at an ambient
temperature of about 50 °F to 68 °F (10 °C to
20 °C).

11.1.2 Power Tool Status
The same LEDs on the battery will indicate the status of the
power tool.
If three LEDs glow red continuously: the power tool motor is
too hot. Allow the motor to cool down.
If three LEDs flash red when you activate the trigger switch:
the power tool has an electrical malfunction. Do not operate
the power tool. Have it checked by an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer before use or storage.

11.1.3 Charge Status
The LEDs on the battery also show the battery's state of
charge.
To determine the battery's state of charge:
► Press the button (1) on the battery.
The LEDs on the battery will glow or flash green for about
5 seconds and indicate the state of charge (see
illustration).
For example:
If four green LEDs glow continuously: full charge.
If one green LED is flashing: less than 20 % charge.
11.2 Beeps
An audible beep confirms contact between the sprayer and
battery.
A beep also sounds when the sprayer is switched on.
A short beep will sound when the sprayer switches off
automatically after a work break of about 15 minutes.
► If beeps sound in quick succession for 15 seconds:
@ 22.1.
There is a malfunction in the battery.
► If 4 long beeps sound one after another: @ 22.1.
Battery has low charge.
12.1 Spray Gun and Lance
12.1.1 Connecting the Spray Gun and Lance
WARNING
Make sure the battery is removed before starting assembly.
Never operate your sprayer without a properly mounted
spray gun, lance and nozzle, @ 5.7.5. Use only

To connect the spray gun and lance:

emergency, remove the chest strap quickly before dropping

13 Inserting and Removing the Battery
To ensure a proper fit:
► Put the sprayer on your back.
► Fasten the chest strap (1) and adjust it so that it fits
comfortably but securely across your chest.
► Adjust the harness straps so that the sprayer fits firmly
and securely against your back.
► To remove the harness, open the quick-release fasteners
on the chest strap and loosen the harness straps by lifting
the sliding adjusters.
To help reduce the risk of injury in the event of an
emergency, practice quickly opening the fasteners on the
chest strap, loosening the shoulder straps and removing the
sprayer.
NOTICE
To avoid damage, ease the sprayer to the ground when
practicing. Do not allow the sprayer to drop to the ground
and do not throw it.
13.1 Inserting the Battery
WARNING
Never use a malfunctioning, damaged, cracked, leaking or
deformed battery, @ 6.1. Use and store the battery only
within an ambient temperature range of 14 °F to 122 °F (- 10
°C to 50 °C), @ 6.1.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of short circuit, fire and explosion, avoid
contacting the battery with chemicals or other fluids. Make
sure the battery compartment cover is closed securely
before filling the container or spraying. Never operate the

14 Switching the Sprayer On and Off
► Place the sprayer on a level surface.
► Open the battery compartment cover (1).
► Insert the battery (2) into the battery compartment (3) until
it stops.
The battery is properly inserted when you hear an audible
click and the battery is flush with the top of the housing. In
this position, there is electrical contact between the
battery and the sprayer.
► Close the battery compartment cover and ensure that it is
properly secured in place.
Since a new battery is not fully charged, STIHL recommends
that you fully charge the battery before using it the first time,
@ 10.
13.2 Removing the Battery
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended
activation, always remove the battery before assembling,
transporting, cleaning, servicing, maintaining or storing the
sprayer, and any other time it is not in use.
WARNING
Use care when removing the battery to prevent it from falling
and causing personal injury or property damage.
To remove the battery:
► Release the trigger switch.
► Place the sprayer on a level surface.
► Position your hand behind the battery.
► Open the battery compartment cover (1).
► Compress the locking levers (3) to eject the battery (2)
from the battery compartment.
► Close the battery compartment cover and ensure that it is
properly secured in place.
NOTICE
Avoid exposing the battery to excessive heat or prolonged
periods of direct sunlight. Use or storage outside the
recommended ambient temperature range can reduce the
performance and/or service life of the battery.
14.1 Switching On
WARNING
Never operate your sprayer if it is damaged, improperly
adjusted or maintained, not completely and securely
assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.6. To reduce
the risk of personal injury, always wear protective
equipment, including proper respiratory and eye protection,

To switch the sprayer on:

WARNING
Use of unsuitable chemicals can damage the sprayer and
may result in personal injury. Never spray flammable or
combustible liquids. Never spray caustic or corrosive
materials. Never draw fluids into the pump that contain
solvents or undiluted acids (e.g., gasoline, heating oil, paint
thinner, acetone). Always read and follow the chemical
manufacturer's warnings and instructions regarding proper
preparation, dilution, safe use and disposal.
To fill the container:
► Switch off the sprayer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the battery, @ 13.2.
► Place the sprayer on a level surface.
► Remove the cap (2). Do not remove the strainer (1).
► Check sealing ring in the cap. If it is damaged or worn,
have it replaced before use.
► Fill the container no higher than the top mark (3) on the
scale. Do not overfill.
To close the container:
► Position the cap on the container and press it down while
turning it clockwise until it is tight.
16.1.2 Draining the Container
► Switch off the sprayer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the battery, @ 13.2.
► Remove cap and strainer.
► Drain the container in an environmentally responsible
manner in a well ventilated location.

nails, coins, keys), @ 6.
When transporting the battery:
► Place the battery in a non-metal container or carton and
secure it against impact or damage. Never transport the
battery in a metal or other container that is capable of
conducting electricity, or near metal objects (e.g., paper
clips, nails, coins, keys).
► If you are transporting the battery in a vehicle, secure it
and its container to prevent turnover, impact and damage.
STIHL batteries comply with the requirements set forth in
UN-Manual ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5/Part III, Subsection
38.3.
Commercial air, vessel and ground transportation of lithium
ion cells and batteries is regulated. The battery is classified
as a UN 3480, Class 9, packaging group II product. Shipping
it, either as a complete tool or the battery, requires
compliance with all applicable shipping regulations. Check
with the ground, vessel, air cargo or passenger airline to
determine if transport is prohibited or subject to restrictions
or exemptions prior to shipping or travel.
Normally, no further conditions have to be met by the user in
order to transport STIHL batteries by road to the power tool's
operating site. Check and comply with any special
regulations that may apply to your situation.

19.1 Storing the Sprayer
WARNING
Store the sprayer indoors in a dry, secure place that is
inaccessible to children and other unauthorized users,
@ 5.6. Improper storage can result in unauthorized use and
damage to the sprayer, which may lead to leakage and
personal injury, @ 5.6.
When storing the sprayer:
► Clean the sprayer, @ 20.1.
► Drain the container in an environmentally responsible
manner, @ 16.1.2.
► Squeeze the trigger switch to relieve system pressure and
lock the trigger switch.
► Store the sprayer indoors in a dry and secure location, out
of the reach of children and other unauthorized persons.
NOTICE
Freezing temperatures can damage components of the
sprayer. Store the sprayer indoors in a dry room where it is
protected from freezing temperatures. Relieve all system
pressure and make sure all liquids are eliminated from the
pump system, hose and lance before storing.
19.2 Battery
WARNING
To reduce the risk of a short circuit, which could lead to
electric shock, fire and explosion, never store the battery in
a metal container or near metal objects, @ 7.1. If the
battery is damp or wet, allow it to dry thoroughly before
storing, @ 6.1.
WARNING
Extreme temperatures can damage the battery and may also
cause the battery to generate heat, rupture, leak, ignite or
explode, resulting in severe or fatal personal injury or
property damage. Use and store the battery only within an
ambient temperature range of 14 °F to 122 °F (- 10 °C to
50 °C), @ 6.1. Never store the battery in direct sunlight or
inside a vehicle in hot weather, @ 6.1.
To properly store the battery:
► Remove the battery from the sprayer or the charger.
► Make sure the battery is dry and store it indoors in a dry
and secure location.
► Keep it out of the reach of children and other unauthorized
persons.
► Protect the battery against dampness and corrosive
agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
► Protect the battery from exposure to conductive liquids
such as salt water.
► For maximum battery life, store the battery at an ambient
temperature between 50 °F and 68 °F (10 °C and 20 °C)
with a charge between 40 % and 60 % (2 green LEDs).
► Do not leave spare batteries unused. Use them in rotation.
20.1 Cleaning the Sprayer and Battery
WARNING
Users of this sprayer should carry out only the cleaning
described in this manual. Remove the battery and empty the
container before cleaning. Always wear proper clothing and
protective apparel, including rubber/chemical-resistant
gloves, @ 5.4. Relieve all system pressure by squeezing
the trigger switch, switch the sprayer off and lock the trigger
switch, @ 16.2. Never use a pressure washer to clean the
unit and never spray it with water or other liquids.

► Clean the sprayer's polymer components, couplings and
connectors with a slightly dampened cloth. Do not use
abrasives or solvents that may damage the sprayer's
polymer components.
► Do not use a pressure washer to clean the unit. Never

► Keep the battery housing and guides free from foreign
matter and clean as necessary with a soft brush or soft,
dry cloth.
20.2 Cleaning the Filter
A clogged filter can cause excessive pressure to build in the
pump. Clean the filter if it becomes clogged.
To clean the filter in the container:
► Remove cap (1) and strainer (2).
► Take the filter (4) out of the container (3).
► Rinse the filter under running water.
► Fit the filter on the connector (5) and push it down until it
stops.
To clean the filter in the spray gun:
► Remove the control handle (3) from the spray gun (1).
► Remove the filter (2) from the spray gun.
► Rinse the filter under running water.
► Insert the filter into the spray gun and tighten by hand.
► Fit the control handle on the spry gun and tighten firmly by
hand.
20.3 Cleaning the Nozzle
A clogged nozzle can cause excessive pressure to build in
the pump. Clean the nozzle if it becomes clogged.
To clean the nozzle:

21.2 Inspecting and Maintaining the Sprayer
WARNING
Remove the battery and relieve system pressure before

operations described in this manual. There are no user-
authorized repairs. STIHL recommends that repair work be

Proper maintenance of the sprayer includes the following

Handle discharged/depleted batteries carefully. Even if
believed to be discharged, lithium ion batteries may never
totally discharge and still may deliver a dangerous short
circuit current. If damaged or exposed to extreme
temperatures, they may leak, generate heat, catch fire or
explode.
► Observe all federal, state and local disposal rules and
regulations.
► Contact your authorized STIHL servicing dealer for the
latest information on waste disposal.
► Recycle depleted batteries promptly.
► Keep batteries away from children. Do not disassemble
and do not dispose of in fire.

locations and information on battery disposal bans or
restrictions in your area. You can also return your spent

satisfacción de su rociador y, si se observa, reduce el riesgo
de lesiones por su uso.
CONSERVE ESTE MANUAL
Haga que su distribuidor de servicio autorizado de STIHL le
muestre cómo operar su rociador. Todo el personal de
operación y mantenimiento debe estar capacitado y

funciona con pilas para rociar productos
químicos, deben observarse precauciones de
seguridad especiales para reducir el riesgo de

Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones, respete las
medidas de seguridad especificadas.
Lea y respete todas las medidas de seguridad
que se dan en el manual de instrucciones. Un
uso inadecuado puede provocar lesiones graves
o mortales, así como daños materiales. Además,
lea y siga las advertencias e instrucciones de los
productos químicos que se están rociando.
Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones en los ojos,
utilice siempre gafas de protección con la
clasificación ANSI Z87.1 para protegerse contra
los peligros de las gotas/salpicaduras. @ 5.4.
La exposición a productos químicos tóxicos
puede causar lesiones graves o mortales. El
operador y los presentes podrían necesitar una
mascarilla de respiración adecuada aprobada
por NIOSH/MSHA para el producto químico que
se está aplicando. Lea y siga todas las
advertencias e instrucciones de la etiqueta del
producto químico.
Lleve siempre botas de goma resistentes a los
productos químicos.
Use overoles protectores como se recomienda
en las advertencias e instrucciones del producto
químico que se está aplicando. Si está rociando
por encima de la cabeza, o si el aerosol puede
llegar a la altura de la cabeza, use una cubierta
protectora que cubra la cabeza.

5.1 Introducción
Cuando se utiliza un rociador alimentado por pilas, siempre
se deben seguir las precauciones básicas, entre las que se
incluyen las siguientes:

ADVERTENCIA
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de incendio, explosión, descarga
eléctrica y otras lesiones, lea y siga las importantes
instrucciones de seguridad en este capítulo. En capítulos
posteriores de este manual se proporcionan advertencias
e instrucciones adicionales importantes.
5.2 Uso previsto
ADVERTENCIA
￭ Utilice su rociador de mochila para rociar productos
químicos y otras soluciones líquidas para el control de
plagas y malas hierbas en frutas, flores y huertos de
verduras, en árboles y arbustos y en otras plantas. No lo
utilice para otros fines, ya que el uso indebido puede
provocar lesiones personales o daños a la propiedad,
incluso daños a la propia rociadora.
￭ Utilice únicamente soluciones químicas que estén
específicamente aprobadas por el fabricante, para su uso
en rociadores presurizados, y que cumplan con todas las
reglamentaciones, normas y disposiciones de seguridad.
Nunca rocíe soluciones químicas que sean cáusticas,
corrosivas o venenosas.
￭ El rociador está diseñado para uso exterior. Puede
utilizarse en invernaderos bien ventilados, si el fabricante
del producto químico que se está pulverizando permite
dicho uso en la concentración que se está aplicando.
Lleve siempre el equipo de protección adecuado y siga las
advertencias e instrucciones de seguridad del fabricante
del producto químico.
￭ En todas las aplicaciones, el operador debe estar
protegido de cualquier exposición dañina mediante el uso
de equipos de protección adecuados para los ojos y las
vías respiratorias. Pueden ser necesarias precauciones
especiales no especificadas aquí, dependiendo del
producto químico que se rocíe
￭ Utilice el rociador sólo como se describe en este manual.
– Nunca intente modificar o anular los controles del
rociador o los dispositivos de seguridad de ninguna
manera.
– Nunca use un rociador que haya sido modificado o
alterado en su diseño original.
￭ Este rociador sólo puede ser alimentado por una pila de
la serie STIHL AP.
Las baterías, los cargadores y otros accesorios se venden
por separado.
Para reducir el riesgo de contacto con cualquier
producto químico, use siempre guantes de goma
resistentes a los productos químicos.
Nunca rocíe en dirección a otras
personas, animales o propiedades que

5.3 Operador
ADVERTENCIA
￭ El trabajo con el rociador puede ser agotador. El operador
debe encontrarse en buenas condiciones, tanto físicas
como mentales. Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones
provocadas por la fatiga o por una pérdida del control
sobre el equipo:
– Consulte a su médico antes de usar el rociador si
tiene alguna condición de salud que pueda
agravarse por el trabajo extenuante.
– No utilice el rociador bajo la influencia de ninguna
sustancia (drogas, alcohol o medicamentos, etc.)
que pueda afectar la visión, el equilibrio, la destreza
o el juicio.
– Permanezca alerta. No utilice el rociador cuando
esté cansado. Si se cansa, haga una pausa.
– No permita que menores de edad usen el rociador.
– No se debe permitir que los transeúntes,
especialmente los niños, y los animales estén en el
área donde se usa el rociador.
￭ Según los actuales conocimientos de la STIHL, el motor
eléctrico de este rociador no debería interferir con un
marcapasos.
– Sin embargo, las personas con un marcapasos u
otro dispositivo médico implantado deben consultar

5.4 Equipos de protección personal
ADVERTENCIA
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones cuando se trabaja con
agentes químicos:

– Siga siempre las advertencias e instrucciones del

del producto del fabricante de productos químicos.

– No use pantalones cortos, sandalias o
vaya descalzo.

ayudar a mantener una posición segura y reducir el riesgo

5.5 Manejo de productos químicos
ADVERTENCIA
￭ Si se usan de forma indebida, los productos químicos
pueden ser nocivos para personas y animales, así como
para el medio ambiente. Además, los productos químicos
que son cáusticos, corrosivos o venenosos no deben ser
utilizados en su rociador. Lea atentamente las etiquetas
de los envases de los productos químicos antes de
usarlos.
￭ Los productos químicos se clasifican en categorías de
toxicidad. Los plaguicidas regulados por la EPA, por
ejemplo, utilizan palabras clave para indicar el potencial
del producto para enfermar. La palabra "Atención" se usa
en los pesticidas con la menor posibilidad de ser
peligrosos para los seres humanos. La palabra
"Advertencia" identifica un producto más venenoso que
los productos del grupo de "Atención". Los plaguicidas
que llevan la palabra "Danger" en la etiqueta son muy
venenosos o irritantes y deben manejarse con extremo
cuidado. Por último, los plaguicidas con la etiqueta
"Danger - Poison" son sólo para uso restringido y, por lo
general, deben utilizarse bajo la supervisión de un técnico
de aplicación certificado.
￭ De manera similar, la EPA clasifica los herbicidas con las
palabras de señal "Caution," "Warning"" y "Danger." A
cada categoría se aplican características de manejo
específicas. Familiarícese con las características de la
categoría del producto que está usando.
￭ Mezcle sólo pesticidas y/o herbicidas compatibles. La
mezcla incorrecta puede producir gases tóxicos. Cuando
maneje productos químicos y cuando rocíe, asegúrese de
que está operando de acuerdo con las normas y
directrices de protección ambiental locales, estatales y
federales. No rocíe si hace mucho viento. Para contribuir
a la protección del medio ambiente, utilice solamente la
dosis recomendada. No aplique los productos en exceso.
￭ No coma, beba ni fume mientras manipula productos
químicos o mientras pulveriza. Nunca sople por la boca a
través de boquillas, válvulas, mangueras o cualquier otro
componente. Siempre maneje los productos químicos en
un lugar bien ventilado y utilice la ropa protectora y equipo

productos químicos con alimentos o medicinas, y nunca
reutilice un contenedor químico para ningún otro

químicos, o en caso de contaminación de la ropa, detenga
el trabajo y consulte inmediatamente las instrucciones del
fabricante del producto químico. Si tiene dudas sobre lo
que debe hacer, consulte inmediatamente con un centro
de información sobre envenenamiento o a un médico.
Tenga a la mano la etiqueta del producto para que se la
lea o la muestre a la persona que consulte.
￭ Limpie inmediatamente todos los productos químicos que
se derramen. Elimine todos los residuos de acuerdo con
las leyes y los reglamentos estatales o federales.
￭ Mantenga los productos químicos fuera del alcance de los
niños y otras personas sin autorización y lejos de los

5.6 Rociador

5.7 Uso del rociador
5.7.1 Llenado del depósito

– No llene demasiado el contenedor con la solución

– Si llena el recipiente con una manguera conectada a
un suministro central de agua, mantenga la
manguera fuera de la solución para reducir el riesgo
de reflujo, es decir, para reducir el riesgo de que los
productos químicos puedan ser aspirados por el
suministro de agua en caso de un vacío repentino.
– Calcule la cantidad correcta de solución química
para que se agote por completo, sin que quede
ninguna solución extra en el recipiente después de
terminar el trabajo.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones corporales por una
dilución inadecuada:
– Lea la etiqueta del producto químico y calcule la
dilución correcta antes de empezar a llenar el
contenedor. Mide con cuidado. Cuando se llena
hasta la marca máxima, el contenedor tiene una
capacidad de 17 l (4,5 US gal.).
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de incendios y explosiones:
– Nunca llene el contenedor con materiales
inflamables o combustibles, que pueden explotar
bajo presión.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de fuga de productos químicos:
– Nunca llene el contenedor con materiales cáusticos
o corrosivos.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones por exposición a
temperaturas de líquidos hirvientes:
– Nunca llene el contenedor con líquidos que tengan
una temperatura superior a 40 °C (104 °F).
– Nunca deje el rociador a la luz directa del sol o cerca
de una fuente de calor.
5.7.2 Antes de pulverizar
ADVERTENCIA
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones corporales por fugas:
– Inspeccione su rociador antes y después de cada
operación. Asegúrate de que el tanque esté bien
sellado y no tenga fugas. Revise la tapa y todas las

– Compruebe siempre que el rociador esté en buenas
condiciones y funcione correctamente antes de
empezar a trabajar, especialmente el depósito, la
tapa, la manguera y todas los sellos.
– Asegúrate de que el interruptor del gatillo y el cerrojo
de retención se mueven libremente. El interruptor
del gatillo no debe engranar hasta que el cerrojo de
retención se mueva a la posición de desbloqueo.
– Nunca intente modificar ni anular en modo alguno
los controles ni los dispositivos de seguridad.
– Si su rociador o alguna de sus piezas está dañada o
no funciona correctamente, llévelo a su distribuidor
de servicio autorizado de STIHL. No utilice el

￭ Exponer la pila a agentes químicos aumenta el riesgo de
cortocircuito, incendio y explosión.

debido a un arranque involuntario o a la filtración de
líquido de la boquilla de rociado:
– Nunca lleve el accesorio de rociado con el dedo en
el interruptor del gatillo.
– Asegúrese de que el pestillo de retención esté en la
posición de bloqueo antes de insertar o retirar la
pila.
– Nunca deje el rociador desatendido cuando la pila
esté puesta.
– Siempre apague el rociador, retire la pila y oprima el

– Nunca almacene la pila en el rociador.
– Retire la pila antes de montar,

alrededores sufran lesiones graves o mortales causadas
por una pérdida de control, asegúrese de que tiene los

donde se está utilizando el equipo.
– Apague el rociador inmediatamente si se le acercan.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones a los presentes y a los
usuarios no autorizados:
– Nunca deje el rociador desatendido cuando la pila
esté puesta.
– Apague el rociador y retire la pila durante las
descansos de trabajo y en cualquier otro momento
en que el rociador no esté en uso.
￭ Las chispas generadas por el funcionamiento del rociador
pueden ser capaces de encender gases, líquidos,
vapores, polvos u otros materiales y sustancias
combustibles. Para reducir el riesgo de incendios y

producto químico específico, lea la etiqueta del
producto y/o la hoja de datos de seguridad del
material para esa sustancia, y/o consulte con el
fabricante/proveedor del material. También puede
ponerse en contacto con su empleador o con
organismos gubernamentales como EPA, OSHA y
NIOSH, y consultar otras fuentes acerca de
materiales peligrosos. El estado de California y otras
autoridades han publicado listas de sustancias
carcinógenas, de toxicidad para la función
reproductora, etc.
￭ Una manguera desgastada o dañada puede tener fugas.
Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones o daños en la propiedad
por fuga de productos químicos:
– Antes de empezar a trabajar, asegúrese de que la
manguera esté en buenas condiciones y no esté
rasgada, agrietada, deformada o dañada de ninguna
forma.
– Evite que la manguera quede atascada en los
arbustos, la maleza u otros objetos durante el
trabajo.

5.7.5 Instrucciones de manejo

– No rocíe productos alimenticios o bebidas.

chupan en el suministro de agua.
￭ El uso de productos químicos inadecuados puede causar
lesiones corporales y dañar el rociador y/o los objetos que
se están rociando.
– Siga siempre las instrucciones de manejo, dilución y
aplicación del fabricante del producto químico.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de derramar el producto del
contenedor:
– Póngase en posición vertical mientras trabaja y evite
doblar la cintura.
￭ Si se hace funcionar el rociador sin líquido en el
contenedor, la bomba se sobrecalentará, lo que puede
provocar daños y fugas permanentes:
– No haga funcionar el rociador sin líquido en el
contenedor.
– Nunca rocíe líquidos inflamables o
combustibles.
– Nunca rocíe materiales cáusticos o
corrosivos.
– Nunca introduzca en la bomba líquidos
que contengan disolventes o ácidos no
diluidos (p. ej., gasolina, aceite de

– Proteja la batería de la exposición a líquidos

– No intente reparar, abrir ni desmontar la batería. No
contiene ninguna pieza que el usuario pueda reparar
sin ayuda.
￭ El líquido que contiene la batería, y que puede
derramarse en determinadas circunstancias, es
potencialmente nocivo y puede provocar irritaciones en
los ojos y en la piel, quemaduras químicas y otras
lesiones graves.
– Evite el contacto con la piel y con los ojos.
– Para recoger el líquido de batería derramado, use
un producto absorbente inerte, como la arena.
– En caso de contacto accidental, limpie
inmediatamente y a fondo la zona afectada con un
jabón suave y agua.
– Si le entra líquido de batería en los ojos: no se los
frote. Aclárese los ojos con agua corriente durante al
menos 15 minutos y acuda al servicio médico más
cercano.
￭ Si la batería se prende fuego, puede resultar peligrosa.
Para reducir el riesgo de que se produzcan lesiones
personales graves y daños materiales, en caso de
incendio:
– Evacue la zona. El fuego se puede extender

9 Antes de empezar a trabajar

de objetos metálicos como presillas de papel, monedas,

pudieran establecer una conexión entre los terminales de
las baterías. No la guarde en un envase metálico. Un
puente entre los terminales de la batería puede causar

￭ Si la batería se maltrata, podría salir líquido de la misma;
evite el contacto con este líquido. Si, a pesar de todo, el
contacto se produce, lave la zona afectada con agua. Si
el líquido entra en contacto con los ojos, busque además
atención médica. El líquido que sale de la batería puede
causar irritaciones, quemaduras químicas o
enfermedades respiratorias si se inhala.
￭ No utilice una pila o un rociador que esté dañado o
modificado. Las baterías que se hayan dañado o
modificado pueden tener un comportamiento
impredecible y provocar incendios o explosiones, así
como lesiones o daños materiales.
￭ No exponga una pila o el rociador al fuego o a una
temperatura excesiva. La exposición al fuego o a
temperaturas superiores a los 212 °F (100 °C) puede
provocar un incendio o una explosión.
￭ Siga todas las instrucciones de carga y no cargue la
batería a temperaturas no incluidas en el intervalo de

9.1 Preparando el rociador para su operación

► Conecte la pistola rociadora y la lanza, @ 12.1.1.

10.1 Preparación del cargador para el
funcionamiento

Un circuito eléctrico doméstico típico suministra entre 15 y
20 amperios. Un cargador STIHL AL 500 consume
aproximadamente 4,8 A. Un cargador AL 300 consume
aproximadamente 4,4 A. Para reducir el riesgo de incendios
provocados por la sobrecarga de un circuito eléctrico:
► Asegúrese de que el sistema eléctrico tiene capacidad

se apaga, la autoprueba ha finalizado y el cargador está
listo para cargar la batería.
► Coloque el cordón eléctrico (2) de modo que no se pueda
pisar, no cause tropiezos, no esté en contacto con objetos
cortantes o con partes móviles y no pueda sufrir daños ni
esté sujeto a esfuerzos de otro tipo.
10.2 Carga
ADVERTENCIA
Las baterías STIHL tienen características y dispositivos de
seguridad que, de dañarse, pueden provocar que la batería

explote. Nunca cargue una batería que no funcione bien,

104 °F (5 °C y 40 °C).
La batería se calienta durante el funcionamiento de la

Para recargar una pila AP:
► Inserte la batería (2) en el cargador (3) hasta que haga
tope.
El LED del cargador se ilumina en verde cuando la batería
se está cargando.
Los LED (1) de la batería se iluminan en verde e indican
el estado de la carga.
Cuando los LEDs de la pila se apagan, el proceso de
recarga se completa y el cargador se apaga solo. La pila
puede extraerse del cargador.
► Desenchufe el cordón eléctrico del tomacorriente cuando
el cargador no se vaya a usar durante un periodo
prolongado.
► Para cargar las baterías de la gama AP de STIHL, utilice
siempre cargadores STIHL AL 101, AL 300 o AL 500
auténticos.
11.1 Batería AP de STIHL
11.1.1 Estado de la batería
Cuatro LED muestran el estado de la batería. Estos LED
pueden encenderse o destellar en verde o rojo.
11.1.2 Estado de la herramienta motorizada
Los mismos LED en la batería indican el estado de la
herramienta motorizada.
Si tres LED se encienden en rojo continuamente, el motor
de la herramienta motorizada está demasiado caliente. Deje
que el motor se enfríe.
Si tres LED destellan en rojo cuando activa el gatillo, la
herramienta motorizada tiene un defecto eléctrico. No utilice
la herramienta motorizada. Solicite a un concesionario de
servicio STIHL autorizado que la revise antes de usarlo.

fría. Deje que la batería se caliente o se enfríe

Si los cuatro LED destellan en rojo: la batería
está averiada y debe reemplazarse. No intente
cargar, usar ni guardar la batería.

12 Ensamblando el rociador
Para determinar el estado de carga de la batería:
► Presione el botón (1) en la batería.
Los LED de la batería se encenderán o destellarán en
verde por unos 5 segundos e indicarán el estado de carga

11.2 Pitidos

Un corto pitido sonará cuando el rociador se apague
automáticamente después de una pausa de trabajo de unos
15 minutos.

12.2 Colocar y ajustar el rociador
ADVERTENCIA
El rociador debe ser llevado como una mochila con las
correas del arnés sobre ambos hombros. Para reducir el
riesgo de perder el control sobre la máquina, no lleve nunca
la máquina con las correas sobre un solo hombro.
ADVERTENCIA
El operador debe ser capaz de retirar el rociador

Las baterías STIHL cumplen con los requisitos descritos en
el Manual UN ST/SG/AC.10/11/Ver.5/Parte III, Subsección
38.3.
El transporte comercial por aire, agua y tierra de celdas de
ion de litio y baterías está regulado. Esta batería está
clasificada como un producto UN 3480, Clase 9 y grupo de
envasado II. Para transportarla, ya sea como parte de la
herramienta completa o sola, es necesario cumplir con
todas las normas de transporte correspondientes. Antes del
transporte o traslado, consulte con la empresa de transporte
por tierra o agua, o bien con la aerolínea de carga o
pasajeros, para determinar si el transporte está prohibido o

19.1 Almacenamiento del rociador
ADVERTENCIA
Almacene el rociador en un lugar seco y seguro, inaccesible

sistema de bombeo, la manguera y la lanza antes de

19.2 Batería
ADVERTENCIA

ADVERTENCIA
Las temperaturas extremas pueden dañar la batería y
provocar que esta genere calor, se rompa, pierda líquido, se
incendie o explote, lo que podría causar lesiones
personales graves o fatales y daños materiales. Use y
guarde la batería únicamente a una temperatura ambiente
de entre 14 °F y 122 °F (- 10 °C y 50 °C), @ 6.1. Nunca
guarde la batería en un lugar expuesto a la luz solar directa
ni dentro de un vehículo si la temperatura exterior es
elevada, @ 6.1.
Para guardar correctamente la batería:
► Retire la batería del fumigador o del cargador.
► Asegúrese de que la batería está seca y guárdela bajo
techo, en un lugar seco y seguro.
► Asegúrese de que queda fuera del alcance de los niños y
de otras personas no autorizadas.
► Proteja la batería de la humedad y de los productos

► Proteja la batería de la exposición a líquidos conductores
como el agua salada.
► Para alargar al máximo la vida útil de su batería, guárdela
a una temperatura ambiente de entre 50 °F y 68 °F (10 °C
y 20 °C), con un nivel de carga de entre el 40 % y el 60 %
(2 LED verdes iluminados).
► Las baterías de repuesto no deben permanecer
inutilizadas. Use todas sus baterías, por turnos.

ADVERTENCIA
Retire la pila y alivie la presión del sistema antes de
inspeccionar el rociador o de realizar cualquier

de mantenimiento que se describen en este manual. No hay
reparaciones que el usuario esté autorizado a llevar a cabo.
STIHL le recomienda que encargue las reparaciones a

24.1 Piezas de repuesto originales de STIHL

de STIHL. Es posible identificar las piezas originales de
STIHL por el número de pieza STIHL, el logotipo de
y, en ciertos casos, el símbolo de piezas
STIHL. En las piezas pequeñas el símbolo puede aparecer
solo.

25.1 Desecho de la herramienta motorizada
Los productos STIHL no se deben desechar junto con la

dañino al medio ambiente.

25.2 Reciclado de las baterías
ADVERTENCIA
Manipule las baterías descargadas/agotadas con cuidado.
Aunque parezca que están descargadas, las baterías de ion
de litio nunca se descargan completamente y pueden
generar una corriente de cortocircuito peligrosa. Si se dañan
o exponen a temperaturas extremas, pueden perder líquido,
generar calor, incendiarse o explotar.
► Respete todas las leyes y normas federales, estatales y
locales sobre eliminación de desechos.
► Comuníquese con un concesionario de servicio STIHL
autorizado para obtener la información más actualizada
acerca de la eliminación de desechos.
► Recicle las baterías agotadas rápidamente.
► Mantenga las baterías alejadas de los niños. No desarme
el producto ni lo incinere.
El sello de la RBRC indica que STIHL ya aportó dinero para
el reciclado de la batería. El sello de la RBRC lleva impreso
un número telefónico gratuito (1-800-822-8837) que le
permite acceder a información sobre lugares de reciclaje de
baterías y prohibiciones o restricciones respecto del
reciclado de baterías en su zona. También puede devolver
las baterías a cualquier concesionario de servicio STIHL
autorizado para reciclarlas gratuitamente.
