DESCRIPTION

_Read this manual carefully and become

familiar with your generator. Know its

applications, its limitations and any hazards

involved.

The generators are an engine-driven, revolvingfield,

alternating current (AC) generator. It was designedto

supply electrical power for operating compatible electrical

lighting, appliances,tools and motor loads.The generator's

revolving field is driven at about 3,600 rpm by a single-

cylinder engine.

CAUTION! DO NOT exceedthe generator's

wattage/amperagecapacity.See"Don't Overload

Generator" on page 10.

Section 1: Safety Rules

DANGER

Operate generator ONLY outdoors.

Keepat least 2 feet of clearance on all sidesof generator for

adequate ventilation.

DO NOT operategeneratorinsideanybuildingor enclosure,

includingthe generator compartmentof a recreationalvehicle(RV).

DANGER

National Electric Code requires generator to be properly

grounded to an approved earth ground. Call an electrician for

localgrounding requirements.

DANGER

When usinggenerator for backup power, notify utility

company. Use approved transfer equipment to isolate

generator from electric utility.

Use aground circuit fault interrupter (GFCt) in anydamp or

highly conductive area, such asmetal decking or steel work.

DO NOT touch bare wires or receptacles.

DO NOT use generator with electrical cords which are worn

frayed, bare or otherwise damaged.

DO NOT operate generator in the rain.

DO NOT handle generator or electrical cords while standing

inwater, while barefoot, or while handsor feet are wet.

DO NOT allow unqualified persons or children to operate or

service generator.

Thisgenerator does not meet U. S.Coast Guard Regulation

33CFR-183and should not be usedon marine applications.

Failureto use the appropriate U. S.Coast Guard approved

generator could result in bodily injuryand/or property

damage.

WARNING

WHEN ADDING FUEL

Turn generator OFF and let it cool at least 2 minutes before

removing gas cap. Loosen cap slowly to relieve pressure in tank.

Fill fuel tank outdoors.

DO NOT overfill tank. Allow space for fuel expansion.

Keep fuel away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat, and

other ignition sources.

DO NOT light a cigarette or smoke.

_HEN OPERATING EQUIPMENT

DO NOT tip engine or equipment at angle which causes fuel

to spill.

This generator is not for use in mobile equipment or marine

applications.

'HEN TRANSPORTING OR REPAIRING EQUIPMENT

Disconnect spark plug wire.

Store away from furnaces, stoves, water heaters, clothes

ignition source because they can ignite fuel vapors.

during and for several minutes after charginga battery.

Wear protective goggles, rubber apron, and rubber gloves.

Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug and place

the wire where it cannot contact spark plug.

Allow equipment to cool before touching.

CAUTION

DO NOT tamper with governed speed. Generator supplies

correct rated frequency and voltage when running at governed

speed.

DO NOT modify generator in any way.

CAUTION

Start generator and let engine stabilize before connecting

electrical loads.

Connect electrical loads in OFF position, then turn ON for

operation.

Turn electrical loads OFF and disconnect from generator

before stopping generator.

CAUTION

Use generator only for intended uses.

fuel.

ground the generator. See"Grounding the Generator" on

page7.

Oil Fill/Drain -- Access to oil fill dipstick and engine oil

drain plug.

Recoil Starter -- Used for starting the engine.

Spark Plug -- Access to engine spark plug.

ASSEMBLY

Carton Contents

Check allcontents. Ifany parts are missingor damaged,call

the generator helpline at 1-888-611-6708. Shippedwith

your generator is:

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

Add Oil

NOTE: When adding oil to the engine crankcase in the

future, use only high quality detergent oil rated with API

service classification SG,SF/CC, CD. Select the oil's

viscosity grade according to your expected operating

temperature:

colder _ 32°F ._warmer

SAE lOW30 SAE30

SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general all temperature

use. Multi-viscosity oils (lOW30, etc.) improvestarting in

cold weather, but these oils will result in increasedoil

consumption. Check your engine oil level more frequently

to avoid possible damagefrom running low on oil.

To Add Engine Oil:

• Placethe generator on a level surface.

• Remove the oil fill cover.

• Remove oil filler capand wipe dipstick clean (Figure I).

Oil Filler Neck

• Ifthe oil level isnot at the point of overflowing from the

oil filler neck, slowly fill enginewith recommended oil.

• Reinstalloil filler capand tighten securely.

• Replacethe oil fill cover.

• Check the engineoil level before starting each time

thereafter.

Add Fuel

A ARNING! NEVERfill fuel tank indoors.NEVER

fillfuel tank when engineisrunning or hot. Allow unit

to cool for two minutesbefore refueling.DO NOT

light a cigaretteor smokewhen fillingthe fuel tank.

_IL WARNING! DO NOT overfill the fuel tank.

Always allow room for fuel expansion.

• Use cleanfresh UNLEADED fuel with a pump rating of

86 or higher. DO NOT usepremium or leaded fuel. DO

NOT mix oil with fuel.

• Clean area around fuel fill cap, remove cap.

• Check the fuel level.

• If fuel levelislow, slowly add recommended fuel to fuel

tank, up to the shoulder of the fuel strainer (Figure 2).

Be careful not to overfill (there should be no fuel inthe

filler neck).

NOTE: Occasionally clear the fuel strainer of anydirt,

rust, or other particulate matter.

• Install fuel cap and wipe up any spilled fuel.

Occasionally you may hear a light "spark knock" or

"pinging" (metallic rapping noise) while operating under

heavy loads. This isno causefor concern. If spark knock or

pinging occurs at a steady engine speed under normal load,

changebrands of fuel or obtain a higher octane rated fuel.

If pingingor spark knock persists, see your local Briggs&

Stratton repair center.

Operation

GROUNDING THE

G EN ERATO R

The National Electrical Code requires that the frame and

external electrically conductive parts of this generator be

properly connected to an approved earth ground. Local

electrical codes mayalso require proper grounding of the

unit. For that purpose, a GROUNDING WING NUT is

provided on the generator housing (Figure 3).

Grounding Wing Nut

Generally, connecting a No. 12AWG (American Wire

Gauge) stranded copper wire to the grounding wingnut

and to an earth-driven copper or brass grounding rod

(electrode) provides adequate protection against electrical

shock. Becareful to keepthe grounding wire attached after

connecting the stranded copper wire. However, localcodes

may vary widely. Consult with a localelectrician for

grounding requirements in your area.

Properly grounding the generator helps prevent electrical

shock if aground fault condition exists in the generator or

in connected electrical devices. Proper grounding also helps

dissipate static electricity, which often builds up in

ungrounded devices.

OPERATING THE

G EN ERATO R

A AUTION! NEVER start or stop the engine with

electrical loadsconnected to the unit and with the

connected devicesturned ON.

Starting the Engine

Disconnect all electrical loadsfrom the generator. Use the

following start instructions:

• Be sure the spark plug wire is attached to the spark plug.

• Turn the fuel valve to the "Open" position (fully

clockwise) (Figure 4).

• Slidethe choke leverto the "Choke" position (all the

way to the right) (Figure 5).

• Place the engine switch in the "On" position (Figure 6).

• Grasp starter grip and slowly pull the rope untilyou feel

some resistance,then pull the cord out with a rapid full

arm stroke. Let rope return slowly. DO NOT let rope

"snap back" againstthe unit.

Section 4: Operation

NOTE: If engine starts after 3 pulls, but fails to run for

more than l0 seconds, checkfor proper oil level in

crankcase.This unit is equipped with a Oil Alert System

(see page8).

• Slide the choke lever leftto the "Run" position asthe

engine warms up.

NOTE: Under no loadconditions, the engine speed may

vary slightly faster or slower until engine temperatures

stabilize.

_ CAUTION! Breathing Hazard! NEVER run

engine in enclosed poorly ventilated areas.Engine

exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and

deadlygas.

Connecting Electrical Loads

• Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after

starting.

• DO NOT connect 240 Volt loadsto 120Volt receptacles.

• DO NOT connect 3-phase loads to the generator.

• DO NOT connect 50 Hz loadsto the generator.

• Plug in and turn on the desired 120Volt AC, single

phase, 60 Hertz electrical loads.

• DO NOT OVERLOAD GENERATOR. Add up the

rated watts (or amps) of all loadsto be connected at

one time. This total should not be greater than the rated

wattage/amperagecapacity of the generator. See "Don't

Overload Generator" on page 10.

Stopping the Engine

• Unplug all electrical loadsfrom the unit. NEVERstart or

stop engine with electrical devices pluggedin and turned

on.

• Let engine run at no-load for two minutes to stabilize

the internal temperatures.

• Move engineswitch to the "Off" position.

• Turn the fuel valveto the "Close" position (fully

counterclockwise).

NOTE: In an emergency,stop the engine by moving the

engine switch to the "Off' position.

Oil Alert System

The Oil Alert Systemisdesignedto prevent engine damage

caused by an insufficient amount of oil in the crankcase.

Before the oil levelin the crankcase can fall below a safe

limit, the Oil Alert Systemwill automatically shut clown the

engine (the engine switch will remain in the "On" position).

Ifthe Oil Alert System shuts clown the engine, add engine

oil.

Charging a Battery

_ ARNING! Storage batteries emit explosive gas

while charging that remains around a battery for a

long time after it hasbeen charged. The slightest

spark can ignite the gas,causingan explosion that

can shatter the battery and cause blindnessor

other injury.

_ WARNING! DO NOT permit smoking, open

flame, sparks or any other source of heat around a

battery. DO NOT use a lighter or other flame for

checking battery fluid levels. Wear protective

goggles, rubber apron and rubber gloves when

working around a battery. Battery electrolyte fluid is

an extremely caustic sulfuric acid solution that can

cause severe burns. DO NOT permit fluid contact

with eyes, skin, clothing, etc. If spill occurs, flush

area with clear water immediately.

Your generator hasthe capability of recharging a discharged

12Volt automotive or utility style storage battery. DO

NOT usethe unit to charge any6 Volt batteries. DO NOT

usethe unit to crank an engine havinga discharged battery.

To recharge 12 Volt batteries, proceed as follows:

• If necessary,cleanbattery posts or terminals.

• Check fluid levelin allbattery cells. If necessary,add

ONLY distilled water to cover separators in battery

cells. DO NOT use tap water.

• If the battery isequipped with vent caps,make sure they

are installed and are tight.

• Connect battery charge cableconnector plug to the

12Volt DC panel receptacle.

• Connect battery charge cableclamp with red handle to

battery post or terminal indicated by Positive, POS or

(+) (Figure7).

• Start generator. Let the engine run while battery

recharges.

• When battery hascharged,shut down engine (see

"Stopping The Engine")

NOTE: Use an automotive hydrometer to test battery

state of chargeand condition. Follow the hydrometer

manufacturer's instructionscarefully. Generally, a battery is

considered to be at 100%state of charge when specific

gravity of its fluid (asmeasured by hydrometer) is 1.260or

higher.

CONNECTOR PLUGS

120 Volt AC, 15 Amp Receptacle

Eachoutlet socket isprotected againstoverload by a

7.5Amp push-to-reset circuit breaker. Use each receptacle

to operate 120Volt AC, single phase,60 Hz electrical loads

requiring up to 1,000watts (I.0 kW) of power (Figure8).

_ AUTION! Although each receptacle is rated

for 120Volts at 15Amps (I,440 watts or 1.44kW),

the generator israted for a total of 1,000watts.

Powering loads that exceed the wattage capacity of

the generator can damageit or cause serious

injuries.The total of loadspowered through these

receptacles should not exceed 7.5 Amps.

12 Volt DC Accessory Jack

This receptacle allows you to recharge a 12Vott

automotive or utilitystyle storage battery with the battery

charge cable provided. Camping-style air pumps, lanterns,

fans,or other 12Volt devices havinga cigarette lighter-type

plug may also be powered by this outlet (Figure9).

This receptacle can not recharge 6 Volt batteries and can

not be usedto crank an engine havinga discharged battery.

See "Charging a Battery" (page 8) before attempting to

rechargea battery.

EXTENSION CORDS

Use only high quality,well-insulated, extension cords with

the generator's 120Volt electrical receptacles.

Check the ratings of all extension cords before you use

them. Suchcords should be rated for 125Volt AC loadsat

15Amps (or greater) for most electrical devices.Some

devices, however, may not require this type of extension

cord. Check the owner's manualsof those devicesfor their

recommendations.

Keep extension cords asshort as possible,preferably less

than 15feet long, to prevent voltage drop and possible

overheating of wires.

Section 4: Operation

DON'T OVERLOAD

G EN ERATO R

Capacity

You must make sure your generator cansupply enough

rated (running) and surge (starting) watts for the itemsyou

will power at the sametime. Follow these simple steps:

I. Selectthe itemsyou wilt power at the same time.

2. Total the rated (running) watts of these items.This is

the amount of power your generator must produce to

keep your itemsrunning. SeeFigure 10.

3. Estimate how many surge (starting) watts you wilt

need. Surge wattage isthe short burst of power

needed to start electric motor-driven tools or

appliancessuch asa circular saw or refrigerator.

Becausenot all motors start at the sametime, total

surge watts can be estimated by addingonly the

item(s)with the highest additional surge watts to the

total rated watts from step 2.

Power Management

To prolong the lifeof your generator and attached devices,

it is important to take care when addingelectrical loads to

your generator. There should be nothing connected to the

generator outlets before starting it's engine. The correct

and safeway to managegenerator power isto sequentially

add loadsasfollows:

I. With nothingconnected to the generator, start the

engine asdescribed in this manual.

2. Plugin and turn on the first load,preferably the largest

loadyou have.

3. Permit the generator output to stabilize (engine runs

smoothly and attached device operates properly.

4. Plugin and turn on the next load.

5. Again, permit the generator to stabilize.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each additional load.

NEVER add more loadsthan the generator capacity.Take

specialcare to consider surge loadsingenerator capacity,

asdescribed above.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

RECOMMENDATIONS

The generator warranty does not cover items that have

been subjected to operator abuse or negligence. To receive

full value from the warranty, operator must maintain

generator as instructed in this manual.

Some adjustments will need to be made periodically to

properly maintain your generator.

All adjustments in this section should be made at least

once each season.Follow the requirements in the

"Maintenance Schedule"chart shown below in Figure I I.

NOTE: Once a year you should cleanor replace the spark

plug and replacethe air filter. A new spark plug and clean

air filter assureproper fuel-air mixture and help your

engine run better and last longer.

GENERATOR

MAINTENANCE

Generator maintenance consists of keeping the unit clean

and dry. Operate and store the unit in a clean dry

environment where it will not be exposed to excessive

dust, dirt, moisture or any corrosive vapors. Cooling air

slots in the generator must not become clogged with snow,

leaves or any other foreign material.

Check the cleanliness of the generator frequently and clean

when dust, dirt, oil, moisture or other foreign substances

are visible on its exterior surface.

NOTE: DO NOT usea garden hose to cleangenerator.

Water can enter engine fuel system and causeproblems. In

addition, if water enters generator through cooling air slots,

some of the water will be retained in voidsand cracks of

the rotor andstator winding insulation. Water and dirt

buildup on the generator internal windings will eventually

decreasethe insulation resistanceof these windings.

Section 5: Maintenance

To Clean the Generator

• Use a damp cloth to wipe exterior surfacesclean.

• Soft, bristle brush may be usedto loosen caked on dirt

or oil.

A CAUTION! NEVERinsert anyobject or tool

through the air cooling slots, even if the engine is

not running.

• A vacuum cleaner may be used to pick up loose dirt and

debris.

• Low pressure air (not to exceed 25 psi) may be used to

blow awaydirt. Inspect cooling air slots and opening on

generator. These openings must be kept cleanand

unobstructed.

A DANGER! When working on the generator

alwaysdisconnect spark plug wire from spark plug

and keepit awayfrom spark plug.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE

Checking Oil Level

Oil level should be checked prior to each use or at least

every 5 hours of operation. Keep oil level maintained.

Changing Engine Oil

Changethe oil after the first month of operation, then

every 25 hours. If you are usingyour generator under

extremely dirty or dusty conditions, or in extremely hot

weather, changethe oil more often.

Changethe oil while the engine isstill warm from running,

asfollows:

• Remove the oil fill cover and clean area around oil drain

plug (Figure 12).

• Remove oil drain plug, sealing washer, and oil filler cap.

Drain oil completely into a suitable container.

• Install oil drain plug and sealing washer. Tighten securely.

• Refill with recommended oil and check the level. See

page 6 for oil recommendations.

• Wipe up any spilled oil.

A AUTION! Avoid prolonged or repeated skin

contact with used motor oil. Used motor oil has

been shown to causeskin cancer in certain

laboratory animals.Thoroughly wash exposed areas

with soapand water. KEEPOUT OF REACH OF

CHILDREN.

DON'T POLLUTE. CONSERVERESOURCES.

RETURN USED OIL TO COLLECTION CENTERS.

• Replace oil fill cover.

Clean/Replace Spark Plug

Check and clean the spark plug every 50 hours of

operation or every three months, whichever comes first.

This will help your engine to start easier and run better.

• Remove spark plug accesscover. Remove spark plug cap.

• Clean the area around the spark plug.

• Remove and inspect the spark plug.

• Replace the spark plug if electrodes are pitted or burned

or the porcelain is cracked. Use recommended plug for

replacement.

• Check electrode gap with wire feeler gauge and set spark

plug gap between 0.028 and 0.031 inch (0.7 to 0.8 mm) if

necessary (Figure 13).

Oil Drain Plug

• Reinstall spark plug.

Service Air Cleaner

Your engine will not run properly and may be damagedif

you run it using a dirty air filter element.

Check the air filterevery useand clean or replacethe paper

air filterelement every 50 hours of operation or every three

months, whichever comesfirst. Clean or replacemore often

if operating under dusty or dirty conditions.

Section 5 & 6: Maintenance & Storage

To clean or replace air filter element:

• Loosen the air cleaner cover screws,remove the air

cleaner cover, and remove the element (see item

number 4, exploded view on page21.

• Wipe cleanthe insideof the filter housing and cover

thoroughly.

• Wash the element in a solution of household detergent

and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Or wash in

nonflammable or high flash point solvent. Allow the

element to dry thoroughly.

• Soakthe element in cleanengine oil and squeezeout the

excess oil. DO NOT twist The engine will smoke during

initial start-up iftoo much oil is left in the element.

NOTE: If you need to order a new air filter element,

contact your Authorized service center.

• Reinstallthe air cleaner element and the cover. Hand

tighten the air cleaner cover screws.

Clean Spark Arrester Screen

The enginemuffler isequipped with a removable spark

arrester screen.Inspectand cleanthe screen every 10hours

of operation or every three months, asshown in Figure 14:

• Loosen the screw on the muffler tail pipe and remove

the spark arrester screen.

• Use a brassor stiff-bristle brush to remove carbon

deposits from the spark arrester surface.

• Inspect the spark arrester for breaks or tears and

replace it if necessary.

NOTE: If you need to order a new spark arrester, contact

your Authorized service center.

• Install the clean screen in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: Ifyou useyour generator on anyforest-covered,

brush-covered or grass-covered unimprovedland,it must

havea spark arrester installed.The spark attester must be

maintained ingood condition by the owner/operator.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Transporting and Storage

When transporting the generator, turn the engine switch

to "Off' and the fuel valveto "Close". Keep the generator

levelto prevent fuel spillage.

_hL WARNING! Contact with a hot engine or

exhaust system can cause serious burns or fires. Let

the engine coot before transporting or storing the

generator.

Takecare to not drop or strike the generator when

transporting. DO NOT place heavyobjects on the

generator.

The generator should be started at leastonce every seven

daysand allowed to run at least30 minutes. If this cannot

be done and you must store the unit for more than 30 days,

use the following guidelinesto prepare it for storage.

Long Term Storage Instructions

_hL WARNING! NEVER store engine with fuel in

tank indoorsor in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas

where fumes may reach an open flame, spark or

pilot lightason a furnace, water heater, clothes

dryer or other gasappliance.

Be sure the storage area isfree from excessive

humidity and dust.

One Month to One Year

Drain the carburetor float bowl (see following section) and

fuel tank intoa suitable container. After removal from

storage, fill with fresh fuel before starting.

More than One Year

It isimportant to prevent gum deposits from forming in

essentialfuel system parts such asthe carburetor, fuel filter,

fuel hose or tank during storage. Also, experience indicates

that alcohol-blended fuels (called gasohot,ethanol or

methanol) can attract moisture, which leadsto separation

and formation of acids during storage. Acidic gascan

damagethe fuel system of an engine while in storage.

To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be

emptied before storage of 30 daysor longer. Follow these

instructions:

Protect Fuel System

_hL WARNING! Drain fuel into approved container

outdoors, awayfrom openflame. Be sure engine is

cool. DO NOT smoke.

• Drain carburetor float bowl and fuel tank into a suitable

container by looseningthe drain screw (Figure 15).

• Retighten drain screw before refueling.

Change Oil

While engine isstill warm, changeoil asdescribed on

page 12.Refill with recommended grade.

Oil Cylinder Bore

• Remove spark plug and pour about one tablespoon of

clean engineoil into the cylinder.

_llL CAUTION! Avoid sprayfrom spark plug hole

when cranking engine slowly.

• Cover spark plug hole with rag. Crank slowly several

times to distribute oil.

• Install spark plug. DO NOT connect spark plug wire.

• Slowly pull the starter grip until resistance isfelt. At this

point, the piston iscoming up on itscompression stroke

and both the intakeand exhaust valvesare closed.

Storing the engine in this position will help to protect it

from internalcorrosion.

Generator

• Clean the generator asoutlined on page 12 ("To Clean

the Generator").

• Check that cooling air slots and openingson generator

are open and unobstructed.

Other Storage Tips

• DO NOT store fuel from one seasonto another.

• Replacethe fuel can if it starts to rust. Rust and/or dirt

in fuel will causeproblems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors.BE SURE TO

EMPTY THE FUEL TANK.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protective cover that

does not retain moisture.

IMPORTANT: NEVERcover your generator while engine

and exhaust area are warm.

• Store generator in clean, dry area.

California and U.S. EPA Emission Control Warranty

Statement Your Warranty Rights and Obligations

The California Air Resources Board (CARE), U.S.EPAandEriggs

& Stratton Power Products (BSPP)are pleasedto explain the

Emission Control SystemWarranty on your model year 2000 and

later small off-road engine (SORE). In California, new small off.

road engines must be designed, built and equipped to meet the

State's stringent anti-smog standards. Elsewhere in the United

States, new non-road, spark-ignition engines certified for model

year 1997and later, must meet similar standards set forth by the

U.S.EPA.BSPPmust warrant the emission control system on your

engine for the periods of time listed below, provided there has

been no abuse,neglect, or improper maintenance of your small

off-road engine.

Your emission control system may include parts such asthe

carburetor or fuel-injection system,the ignition system,and

catalytic converter. Also included may be hoses, belts, connectors

and other emission related assemblies.

Where awarrantable condition exists, BSPPwill repair your small

off-road engine at no cost to you including diagnosis,parts and

labor.

BSPP Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage

The 1995and later small off-road enginesare warranted for two

years. If any emission-related part on your engine is defective, the

part will be repaired or replaced by BSPR

Owner's Warranty Responsibilities

As the small off-road engine owner, you are responsible for the

performance of the required maintenance listed inthis owner's

manual. BSPPrecommends that you retain all your receipts

covering maintenance on your small off-road engine, but BSPP

cannot deny warranty solely for the lack of receipts or for your

failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled maintenance.

As the small off-road engine owner, you should however be aware

that BSPPmay deny you warranty coverage if your small off-road

engine or a part hasfailed due to abuse, neglect, improper

maintenance or unapproved modifications.

You are responsible for presenting your small off-road engine to

an approved BSPPService Center as soon asa problem exists.

The warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable

amount of time, not to exceed 30 days.

2. Length of Coverage

BSPPwarrants to the initialowner and eachsubsequent

owner that the Warranted Parts shall be free from defects in

materials and workmanship which causedthe failure of the

Warranted Parts for a period of two yearsfrom the date the

engine is delivered to a retail purchaser.

3. No Charge

Repair or replacement of any Warranted Part will be

performed at no chargeto the owner, including diagnostic

labor which leads to the determination that a Warranted Part

is defective, if the diagnostic work is performed at an

approved BSPPService Center.

4. Claims and Coverage Exclusions

Warranty claims shall be filed in accordance with the

provisions of the BSPPWarranty Policy.Warranty coverage

shall be excluded for failures of Warranted Partswhich are

not original BSPPparts or becauseof abuse, neglect or

improper maintenance asset forth in the BSPPEngine

Warranty Policy.BSPPisnot liable to cover failures of

Warranted Parts caused by the useof add-on, non-original, or

modified parts.

5. Maintenance

Any Warranted Part which isnot scheduled for replacement

asrequired maintenance or which is scheduled only for

regular inspection to the effect of "repair or replace as

necessary" shallbe warranted asto defects for the warranty

period. Any Warranted Part which is scheduledfor

replacement asrequired maintenance shall be warranted asto

defects only for the period of time up to the first scheduled

replacement for that part. Any replacement part that is

equivalent in performance and durability may be usedin the

performance of any maintenance or repairs. The owner is

responsible for the performance of all required maintenance,

asdefined in this owner's manual.

6. Consequential Coverage

Coverage hereunder shall extend to the failure of any engine

components caused bythe failure of any Warranty Part still

under warranty.

Este generador funciona en base a un motor, de campo el_ctrico

giratorio y de corriente alterna (AC). Fue disefiado con la

giratorio del generador funciona a una velocidad de 3,6000 rpm

usando un motor con un solo cilindro.

PELIGRO

Opere el generador SOLAMENTE al aire libre.

Mantenga al menos 2 pies de espaciolibre alrededor del generador,

Almacene aleiado de calderas, estufas, calentadores de agua,

secadoras de ropa u otros ap_ratos electrodom_sticos que posean

pilotos u otras fuentes de ignici6n, porque ellos pueden encender los

vapores de la gasolina.

ANTES DE DARLE ARRANQUE AL

GENERADOR

Afiadir Aceite de Motor

NOTA: Cuando agregueaceite al compartimiento del motor en

el futuro, utilice _nicamente aceite detergente de alta calidad

reconocido con la clasificaci6n APt de servicio SF,SG/CC, CD.

Seleccione el grado de viscosidad del aceite de acuerdo ala

temperatura de operacibn estimada:

frto _ 32-°F _ caliente

SAE 10W30 --- SAE30

SAE 10W-30 esel recomendado para uso general bajo todas las

temperaturas. Este aceite de multi-viscosidad mejorar6 el

arranque en climas frtos, pero provocar_ un incremento en el

consumo de aceite. Verifique el nivel de aceite del motor con

mayor frecuencia para evitar posibles daffos ocasionados por el

funcionamiento del motor con aceite insuficiente.

Pa_ A_adir Aceite al Motor:

Coloque el generador sobre una superficie nivelada.

Quite la cubierta de relleno de aceite.

Remuevala tapa del rellenador de aceite y limpie la varilla

(Figura 16).

Si el nivel de aceite no se encuentra en el punto de

desbordamiento del cuello del rellenador de aceite, llene

lentamente el motor con el aceite recomendado.

Reinstale la tapa del rellenador de aceite y suj_telo de forma

segura.

Reemplacela cubierta de relleno de aceite.

Verifique el nivel de aceite del motor antes de arrancarlo en

cadaocasi6n de ahora en adelante.

Afiadir Gasolina

_k ADVERTENCIA! NUNCA Ilene el tanque delcombustible en recintos cerrados. NUNCA Ilene el tanque

del combustible cuando el motor est_ en funcionamiento

o caliente. NO encienda cigarrillos o fume cuando est_

llenando el tanque del combustible.

_k ADVERTENCIA! NO llene excesivamente el tanque

de combustible. Dele suflciente espacio para la expansi6n

del combustible.

Use fuel SIN PLOMO limpia y fresca con unatasa de bombeo

de 86 o superior. NO utilice gasolina premium o con plomo.

NO mezcle el aceite con lagasolina.

Limpie el grea alrededor de la tapa de Ilenado de combustible,

quite la tapa.

Verifique el nivel de combustible.

Si el nivelde combustible es baio,affada lentamente la gasolina

recomendada altanque de combustible, hastael borde del filtro

de combustible Figura 17).Tengacuidado de no sobrellenarlo

(no debe haber combustible en el cuello del rellenador).

_I Rellenador de Aceite

NOTA: Ocasionalmente limpie el filtro de combustible de

cualquiermugre, 6xido u otra materia en forma de parttculas.

Instale la tapa del combustible y limpie cualquier gasolina

derramada.

De manera ocasional usted podr_ escucharun ligero "golpede

buiia" o "silbido"(ruido de golpeteo met_lico) mientras opera baio

cargaspesadas.No es motivo para preocuparse. Si ocurre un

golpe de bujia o se oye un silbido a una velocidad establedel

motor bajo carga normal, cambie la marca de la gasolinau obtenga

un combustible de mayor octanaje. Si persiste el silbido o el golpe

de buiia, consulte a su centro de reparacionesBriggs & Stratton.

Operaci6n

CONEXION A TIERRA DEL

GENERADOR

El C6digo El_ctrico Nacional exige que el bastidor y las partes

externas conductoras de electricidad del generador se encuentren

conectadas adecuadamente auna tierra flsica aprobada. Los

c6digos el_ctricos locales tambi_n podrfan exigir la conexi6n a

tierra de la unidad.Paratal prop6sito, se ha suministrado una

tuerca mariposa para conexibn a tierra en la base del armazbn

(Figura 18).

Conexibn de Tierra

Por Io general, la conexibn de un alambre de cobre trenzado No.

12AWG (American Wire Gauge)a la aleta y a unabarra de

conexi6n a tierra de cobre o bronce (electrodo) proporciona una

protecci6n adecuadacontra las descargasel_ctricas. Sinembargo,

los c6digos locales pueden variar substancialmente. Consulte con

un electricista local para conocer los requisitos de conexibn a

tierra de su_rea.

La conexi6n atierra adecuadadel generador ayudar_ aevitar las

descargasel_ctricas en el caso de que exista unacondicibn de

falla atierra en el generador o en los dispositivos el_ctricos

conectados. La conexi6n atierra adecuadatambi_n ayudaa

disipar la electricidad est_tica, la cual seacumula frecuentemente

en dispositivos no conectados a tierra.

COMO UTILIZAR SU

GENERADOR

li_hl iPRECAUCI_N! NUNCA inicie o detenga el motor

cuando haya dispositivos el_ctricos conectados a los

recept_eulos y que est_n encendidos.

Para Arrancar el Motor

Desconecte todas las cargasel_ctricas de los recept_culos del

generador antes de encender el motor. Use las instrucciones

siguientes del comienzo:

Aseg_rese de queel cable de labujfa seencuentre conectado

a la buiia.

Gire la v_lvula de combustible ala posici6n "Open"

("ABtERTO") (completamente en la direccibn de las manecillas

del reloj) (Figura 19).

Deslice el nivel clelahogador a laposici6n "Choke"

("Estrangulaci6n") (por completo hacia la derecha) (Figura 20).

Coloque el interruptor del motor en la posicibn"On"

(ENCENDIDO) (Figura 21).

Suietela manilay jale lentamente la cuerda hastaque sienta

algo de resistencia; entonces jale la cuerda hacia fuera con un

ial6n completo de su brazo. Permita que la cuerda regrese

lentamente. NO deie que la cuerda "chicot_ede regreso" en

contra de la unidad.

NOTA: Si el motor arranca despu_s de tres accionamientos,

pero s61ofunciona por 10 segundos,revise el nivel de aceite del

motor en la caja del cig_iehal(c_rter). Estaunidad est_ equipada

con un Aceite SistemaAlerta (yea p_gina32).

Deslice el nivel del ahogador a la posici6n "Run" mientras el

motor se calienta.

NOTA: Bajo condiciones sin carga, la velocidad del motor puede

variar ligeramente m_s r_pido o mgs lento hastaque la

temperatura del motor seestabilice.

Conexion de Cargas Elecricas

Deje que el motor seestabilice y secaliente pot unos

minutos despu_s del arranque.

NO conecte cargas de 240 Voltios a los tomacorrientes de

120Voltios.

NO conecte cargas trif_sicasa los tomacorrientes.

NO conecte cargas de 50 Hertzios al generador.

Enchufey encienda las cargasel_ctricas AC de 120 Voltios,

monof_sicasde 60 Hertzios deseadas.

NO SOBRECARGUE GENERADOR. Sumelos ratios

asignados(o amperios) de todas las cargasque sevan a

conectar al mismo tiempo. Este total no debe ser mayor que

la capacidaddel vatiaje/ampera}e nominal del generado_ Vea

"No Sobrecargue Generador" en la p_gina 34.

Detener el Motor

Desconecte todas lascargasel_ctricas de launidad.NUNCA

arranque o detenga el motor con dispositivos el_ctricos

conectados a_l y encendidos.

Permita que el motor funcione sin carga durante dos minutos

para estabilizar las temperaturas internas de la unidad.

Mueva el interruptor del motor a la posici6n "Off' (apagado).

Gire la v_lvula a la posicibn "Close" ( "CERRADA" )

(totalmente en contra del sentido de las manecillasdel reloi).

NOTA: En unaemergencia, detenga el motor moviendo el

interruptor del motor a la posicibn "Off".

Aceite Sistema Alerta

ElAceite SistemaAlerta esdise_adoa previeneel da_o de motor

causadopor unacantidad insuficientede aceite en el c_rte_ Antes el

nivelde aceite enel c_rter puede la catdadebajode un Iimite seguro,

el Aceite SistemaAlerta hacecerr6 autom_ticamenteel motor (el

interruptorde motor hace permaneceen el "On" Eaposici6n).

Si el Aceite Sistema Alerta cierra el motor, agregamotor aceite.

Procedimiento de Carga de la Bateria

_hL ADVERTENCIA! Lasbaterias de acumuladores

producen gasexplosivo cuando son cargadas,el cual

permanece alrededor de la bateria por un periodo de

tiempo prolongado despu_s de haber sido cargada. La

chispa ragspeque_a podrta encender el combustible y

causaruna explosibn que puede destruir la baterta, causar

cegueray otras lesionesserias.

_IL ADVERTENCIA! NO permita que se fume, llamas

abiertas, chispaso cualquier otra fuente de calor alrededor

de la baterla. NO utilice un encendedor o cualquier clase

de llamapara revisar los niveles del liquido de la baterta.

Use anteoios de proteccibn, delantal de caucho y guantes

de caucho cuando trabaje alrededor de la bateria. El

liquido electrblito de la baterta esuna solucibn de _cido

sulf_rico c_ustico, la cual puede causar quemaduras

severas.NO permita que el liquido entre en contacto con

los o}os, piel, ropa, etc. Siocurren derrames, limpie

inmediatamenteel _rea con agualimpia.

Sugenerador tiene la capacidadde recargar baterlas descargadas

de acumuladores tipo servicio o automotriz de 12Voltios. NO

utilice la unidad para cargar baterias de 6 Voltios. NO use la

unidad para mover motores que tengan la baterla descargada.

Para recargar baterias de 12 Voltios, Ileve a cabo los

siguientes procedimientos:

Limpie los terminales de la bateria si es necesario.

Reviseel nivel del liquido en todas lasceldas de labaterta. Si

es necesario, ahadaaguadestilada UNiCAMENTE hastacubrir

los separadores de lasceldas de la baterta. NO use agua de

grifo.

Sila bateria est_ equipadacon tapas de desfogue, aseg_rese

de que est_n instaladasy apretadas.

Conecte el enchufe conector del cable de carga de la baterta

al tomacorrientes del panel

Conecte el suietador del cable de carga de la bateria que

tiene la manija roja al terminal o borne de la bateria marcado

con el signo POSITIVO, POS o (+) (Figura 22).

tiene la manija negra al terminal o borne de la bateria

marcado con el signo NEGATIVO, NEG o (-) (Figura 22).

Secci6n 4: Operaci6n

Arranque el motor. Deje que el motor fundone mientras la

baterfa se recarga.

Cuando la bateria haya cargado, apagueel motor (yea"Parado

del Motor" a continuacibn).

NOTA: Use un hidr6metro para autom6viles para probar el

estado de cargay condicibn de la baterfa. Sigacuidadosamente las

instruccionesdel fabricante del hidr6metro. Pot Io general, se

considera que una baterfa est_ en un estado de carga del 100%

cuando lagravedad especificade suliquido (medida por el

hidr6metro) es de 1.260o m_s.

ENCHUFES DE CONEXI( N

Receptdculo de 120 Voltios AC

Cada enchufe est_ protegido contra ueasobrecarga pot un

circuito breaker de re-encendido a presi6n de 7.5 Amperios.

daharlo o provocar heridas graves alas personas

alrededor. Eltotal de cargasproporcionadas pot estos

recept_culos no debertan exceder los 7.5 Amperios.

Clavija Accesoria de 12 Voltios DC,

Esterecept_culo le permite recargar una bateria de 12Voltios

automotriz o de almacenamiento estilo suministro el_ctrico, con

el cable de bateria que se proporciona. Lasbombas de aire estilo

campamento, linternas, ventiladores u otros dispositivos de

12Voltios que posean un enchufe estilo encendedor de cigarrillos,

tambi_n pueden ser cargadaspor este enchufe (Figura 24).

Esterecept_culo no puederecargar las baterias de 6 Voltios y no

puede ser utilizado tampoco para arrancar un motor que tenga la

baterta descargada.Consulte "Cargandouea Baterta" (p_gina32)

antes de intentar recargar cualquier bateria.

CABLES DE EXTENSI( N

Utilice 0nicamente cablesde extensi6n de alta calidad, aislados de

forma apropiada, con los recept_culos el_ctricos de 120Voltios

del generador. Verifique lascapacidadesde todos los cables de

extensi6n antes de utilizarlos. Talescables deben tener la

capacidadde soportar cargasde 125Voltios AC a 15 Amperios

(o superiores) para la mayorla de aparatos el_ctricos. Algunos

dispositivos, sin embargo, quiz_s no requieran este tipo de cable

de extensi6n. Verifique los manualesdel propietario de dichos

aparatos para conocer susrecomendaciones al respecto.

Conserve los cables de extensi6n tan cortos como sea posible,

preferiblemente auna Iongitud menor de 15 pies, para prevenir

una baiadel voltaje y un posible sobrecalentamiento de alambres.

Secci6n 4: Operaci6n

NO SOBRECARGUE GENERADOR

Capacidad

Usted debe asegurarse que su generador puede proveer el

suflciente vataie calificado (cuando est6 funcionando) y de carga

(al encender) para los aparatos a los cuales va a proveer la

energia, al mismo tiempo. Siga estos pasos:

I. Seleccione los aparatos que recibir_n la energia, al mismo

tiempo.

2. Totalice los ratios calificados (cuando est6 funcionando) de

estos aparatos. Esta es la cantidad de energia que su

generador debe producir para mantener eso aparatos

funcionando adecuadamente. Vea la Figura 25.

3. Calcule la cantidad de ratios de carga (al encender) que

usted necesitar_. El vataje de carga es la cantidad minima de

electricidad, necesaria para encender herramientas o

aparatos con motores el6ctricos, tales como, sierras

circulares o refrigeradores. Debido a que no todos los

motores se encienden al mismo momento, el vataje total de

carga se puede estimar al ahadir solamente el(los) aparato(s)

con el vataje adicional m_s alto, al total del vataie calificado,

obtenido en el paso 2.

Control de la Energia

Para prolongar la vida de su generador y los aparatos que est6n

conectados al mismo, es muy importante cuidarlo cuando se le

ahaden cargas el6ctricas. Nada deberta estar conectado a los

tomacorrientes del generador antes de que su motor sea

encendido. La forma correcta y m_s segura para controlar la

energia del generador, es la de ahadir en secuencias las cargas,

como se describe a continuaci6n:

I. Sin tener nada conectado al generador, encienda el motor de

la manera descrita en este manual.

2. Conecte y encienda la primera carga, preferiblemente la

mayor que usted tenga.

3. Permita que la salidadel generador se estabilice (el motor

funciona suavementey el aparato conectado al mismo trabaja

adecuadamente).

4. Conecte y encienda la prbxima carga.

5. De nuevo, permita que el generador se estabilice.

6. Repita los pasos 4 y 5 para cada carga adicional que usted

tenga.

NUNCA affada m_s cargas sobre la capacidad del generador.

Tome una atencibn especial en considerar las cargas de corriente

seg_n la capacidad del generador, como se describe arriba.

RECOMENDACIONES

MANTENIMIENTO GENERALES

La garanttadel generador no cubre aquellaspartes que hayansido

sujetasal abuso o a la negligenciadel operario. Pararecibir la

cobertura completa de lagarantia, el operario deber_, mantener al

generador conforme se describe en el presente manual.

Ser_ necesario realizar algunos aiustesde manera peri6dica para

mantener de forma apropiada a sugenerador.

Todos los ajustesen esta secci6n deber_n hacersepot Io menos

unavez cada temporada. Cumpla con los requisitos en el cuadro

"Programade Mantenimiento" traza mostrado abajo en Figura26.

NOTA: Unavezal a_o deber_ limpiar o reemplazar la bujiay

MANTENIMIENTO DEL

GENERADOR

El mantenimiento del generador consiste en conservar la unidad

limpia y seca.Opere y almacenela unidad en un medio ambiente

limpio y seco donde no est_ expuesto de manera excesivaal

polvo, a la mugre, a la humedado a vapores corrosivos. Las

ventilas en el generador no deben ser cubiertas por nieve, hojas

de _rboles o por cualquier otro material extrafio.

Verifique la limpieza del generador frecuentemente y limpielo

cuando el polvo, lamugre, el aceite, la humedad u otra sustancia

aienaseanvisibles en la superficie exterior.

NOTA: NO utilice una manguerade jardin para limpiar el

generador. El aguapuede entrar al sistemade combustible del

motor y ocasionar problemas severos.Adem_s, si el aguaingresaal

generador a tray,s de las ventilas,alguna porcibn de aguapodrta

permanecer en los huecos o grietas del rotor y del aislamiento

que envuelveal estator. Elaguay la mugre que se acumulenen los

empaquesinternos del generador podrta disminuir eventualmente

la resistencia de aislamiento de tales empaques.

limpias y sinobstrucci6n alguna.

Cambiar el Aceite del Motor

Cambie el aceite despu_sdel primer mes de operaci6n, y en

adelante cada 25 horas. Si est_ utilizando sugenerador bajo

condiciones de extrema mugre o polvo, o en un dima de calor

excesivo, cambie el aceite con mayor frecuencia.

Cambie el aceite cuando el motor todavfa est_ caliente pot su

funcionamiento, de la manera siguiente:

Quite la cubierta de relleno de aceite y limpie el _rea

alrededor de la claviiade drenaje de aceite (Figura 27).

Instalela clavijade drenaie y la arandela.Apriete con fuerza.

Rellene con el aceite recomendado y verifique su nivel.

Consulte la p_gina30 para conocer cugles son las

recomendaciones de aceite.

Limpie cualquier aceite derramado.

Reemplacela cubierta de relleno de aceite.

Limpie/Reemplace la Bujla

Verifique y limpie labuiia cada 50 horas de operaci6n o cadatres

meses,Io que sucedaprimero. Esto le ayudar_a su motor a

arrancar con mayorfacilidad y a funcionar meior.

Remueva la cubierta de acceso a la bujta. Quite la tapa de la

buiia.

Limpie el grea alrededor de la bujta.

Quite e inspeccionela buiia.

Reemplacela buiia si los electrodos est_n da_ados o

quemados o si laporcelana est_ rajada.Use la buiia

recomendada para reemplazarla.

Verifique el espaciode la bujia con un calibrador y colbquelo,

si es necesario,a una distancia de entre 0.028 y 0.031 pulgadas

(0.7 a 0.8 mm) (Figura 28).

Clavija de Drenaje de Aceite

Remuevala clavija de drenaie de aceite, la arandela y la tapa

del rellenador de aceite. Orene el aceite completamente en

un contenedor adecuado para tal prop6sito.

Reinstale la bujta.

Mantenimiento del Filtro de Aire

Sumotor no funcionar_ apropiadamente y podrta resultar da_ado

si Io utiliza un filtro de aire sucio.

Verifique el filtro de aire cadavez que Io use y limpie o reemplace

el papel del filtro de aire cada 50 horas de operaci6n o cadatres

meses,Io que ocurra primero. Limpie o reempl_celo m_s seguido

si Io opera en condiciones de suciedad o de polvo.

Secci6n 5 & 6: Mantenimiento & Almacenamiento

Para limpiar o reemplazar el elemento del filtro de aire:

Afloie los tornillos de la cubierta del filtro de aire, remueva la

cubierta del filtro de aire y quite el elemento (v6aseel item

n6mero 4, de la vista en exptosibn de la p_gina20).

Limpie a conciencia el interior del depbsito del flltro y la

cubierta.

Laveel elemento en una solucibn de detergente casero y agua

caliente; despu_s enjuague profusamente. O laveen un

solvente no flamable. Permita que el elemento se seque por

completo.

Remoie el elemento en aceite de motor limpio y exprima el

excedente de aceite. NO Io enrosque. El motor expulsar_

humo durante el arranque inicial si se deja demasiado aceite

en el elemento.

NOTA: Si necesita ordenar un nuevo elemento del flltro de aire,

consulte a su distribuidor local de servicio.

Reinstaleel elemento de filtro de aire y la cubierta. Apriete

manualmente los tornillos de la cubierta del filtro de aire.

Limpieza del Filtro del Amortiguador de

Ch,spas

Elsilenciador del motor est,iequipado con unfiltro amortiguador

de chispasextratble. Inspeccioney limpie el filtro cada 10 horas de

funcionamiento o cada tres meses,como semuestra en la Figura29:

Afloie el tornillo en el tubo posterior del silenciador y retire

el filtro amordguador de chispas.

Use unaescobillade cerdasduras o de latbn paraeliminar los

depbsitos de carbbn de lasuperficiedel amortiguador de chispas.

Inspeccioneel amortiguador de chispas para verificar que no

est_ roto o desgarrado y reempl_celo de ser necesario.

NOTA: Si necesita pedir un amortiguador de chispas nuevo,

consulte a su distribuidor local de servicio.

Instaleel filtro limpio en el orden inversoal utilizado en el

desmontaie.

NOTA: Si usa su generador en un terreno boscoso, cubierto por

maleza o por c_sped, debe tener un amortiguador de chispas

instalado. El operador o el propietario del amortiguador de

chispas debe mantenerto en buenas condidones.

Transporte y Almacenamiento

Cadavez que transporte el generador,gire el interruptor del

motor a "Off' (APAGADO) y la v_lvula de combustible ala

posici6n "Close" (CERRADO). Mantenga el nivel del generador

para prevenir el derrame de combustible.

Almacenamiento

_hL PRECAUCI_N! Elcontactocon el motor 0 el

sistemade escapecuando est_n calientes,puede causar

quemadurasgraveso incendios. Permita que el motor se

enfrie antes de transportar o almacenar el generador.

Tengacuidado de no deiar caer ni golpear el generador

cuando Io transporte. NO coloque obietos pesadossobre

el generador.

El generador deber_ arrancarse por Io menos una vez cada siete

dfas y deiarse funcionar por Io menos durante 30 minutos. Si esto

no sepuede hacer ast,y usted tiene que almacenar la unidad por

m_s de 30 dias,utilice la siguiente informacibn como unagufapara

prepararlo para su almacenamiento.

Instrucciones de Almacenamiento a Largo

Plazo

_hl PRECAUCI_N! NUNCA almaceneel motor con

combustible en el tanque en interioreso en _reascon

pocao nula ventilaci6n, donde los gasespueden alcanzar

unaflamalibre, chispa o flamadel piloto de un horno,

calentador de agua,secadora de ropa o cualquier otro

aparato de gas.

Aseg_rese de que el _rea de almacenamiento seencuentre

libre de humedady mugre en exceso.

Un Mes a Un AEo

Drene el flotador del carburador (consulte la secci6n siguiente) y

el tanque de combustibleen un contenedor apropiado. Despu_s

de sacarlodel almacenamiento, II_nelocon gasolina nuevaantes

de arrancarlo.

M_s de Un A_o

Es importante prevenir la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en

partes esenciales del sistema de combustible tales como el

carburador, el filtro de combustible, la manguera de combustible

o el tanque durante el almacenamiento. Tambi_n, seg_n Io indica

la experiencia, los combustibles mezclados con alcohol (llamados

gasohol, etanol o metano]) pueden atraer humedad, Io que origina

la separaci6n y ]a formaci6n de _cidos durante el almacenamiento.

El gas _cido puede da_ar el sistema de combustible del motor

mientras est_ almacenado.

Para evitar problemas con el motor, el sistema de combustible

debe vaciarse antes de ser almacenado durante 30 dias o m_s

tiempo. Siga las siguientes instrucciones:

Proteja el Sistema de Combustible

_ iPRECAUCI(_N! Drene el combustible en un

contenedor aprobado para tal efecto en exteriores,

aleiado de cualquier flamalibre. Aseg6rese de que el

motor est_ frto. NO fume.

Drene el flotador del carburador y el tanque de combustible

en un contenedor apropiado, aflojando el tornillo de drenaje

(Figura30).

Apriete de nuevo el tornillo de drenaie antes de volver a

cargarlo con combustible.

Cambie el Aceite

Mientras el motor est_ todavia caliente, drene el aceite del

contenedor del motor. Rellene con aceite de la gradaci6n

recomendada.

Aceite el Orificio del Cilindro

Remueva la buiia y vierta cerca de una cucharada de aceite de

motor limpio en el cilindro.

iPRECAUCI(_N! Eviteesparcirlo del agujero de la

_hL bujia cuando el motor gire lentamente.

Cubra el agujero de la buiia con estopa. D_ vuelta lentamente

al motor para distribuir el aceite.

Instale la buiia. NO conecte el cable de la buiia.

Lentamente jale la manila de arranque hastaque sienta

resistencia. En este momento, el pist6n que subepot el golpe

de la compresi6n, asi como ambasvglvulas, la de consumo

como la de escape,estar_n cerradas. Almacenar el motor en

esta posici6n ayudar_ a protegerlo de lacorrosi6n interna.

Generador

Limpie el generador tal y como sedescribe en la p_gina36

("Para Limpiar el Generador").

Verifique que las ranuras de ventilaci6n sobre el generador

est_n abiertas y sin obstrucci6n alguna.

Otros Consejos de Almacenamiento

NO almacene la gasolinade unatemporada a otra.

Reemplacesu gasolinasi el contenedor empieza a oxidarse. El

6xido y/o la mugre en sugasolina podrian ocasionar

problemas.

De ser posible,almacene su unidad en interiores.

ASEGURESE DE VACIAB EL TANQUE DE

COMBUSTIBLE.

Cubra su unidad con una cubierta protectora adecuada que

no retenga humedad.

IMPORTANTE: NUNCA cubra su generador mientras el motor

y el _rea del escape se encuentren calientes.

Declaraci6n de garant{a sobre el control de emislones de la EPA de

EE.UU. y California.

El California Air Resources Board (CARB), la EPA de EE.UU. y Briggs &

Stratton Power Products (BSPP) se complacen en explicar la Garantia

para el sistema de control de emislones para motores peque_os pal_

exteriores (SORE) modelos afio 2000 y posteriores. En California, los nuevos

motores pequefios para exteriores se deben disefiar, construir y equipar para

cumpHr con las estrictas normas del estado contl_ el smog, En otl_s regiones

de Estados Unidos, los nuevos motores para interiores de ignici6n por chispa

cerdflcados pa_ modelos afio {997 y posteriores deben cumpHr con normas

similares estab{ecidas pot la EPA de EE.UU. BSPPdebe ga_ndzar el sistema de

control de emlsiones de su motor para los periodos indicados a continuaci6n,

siempre y cuando no se haya abusado, descuidado o dado mantenimiento

incorrecto a{ motor pequefio pa_ exteriores.

Su sistema de control de emisiones podr_ incluir partes como el carbu_dor o el

sistema de inyee¢i6n de combustible, el sistema de ignicibn y el conver tidor

cataIiti¢_ Tambi_n se pueden incluir man.eras, cor_as, ¢onectores y otros

¢ompone_tes _ela¢ionados con las emislones.

Cuando exista una condici6n que pueda ser cubierm por la garantia, BSPP

reparar_ el motor peque_o para exteriores sin costo alguno, incluyendo el

diagn6stico, las partes de repues_o y la mano de obra.

Cobertura de la garantia de BSPP contra defectos en el control de

emislones

Los motores pequefios pm_ exteriores modelos {995 y posteriores tienen una

garantla de dos afios. Si alguna parte de su motor re_acionada con las emisiones

est_ defectuosa, BSPPla repm_r_ o sustituir_.

Responsabilidades del propietario para la garantia

Como propietario del motor pequefio para exteriores, usted es responsable de

realizar las _ctivid_des de mantenimiento requerid_s qt_e se indican en este

manual de_ propietario. BSPP recomienda que conserve todos los recibos que

cubran el mantenimien_o de su motor peque_o para exteriores, pero BSPP no

puede negar la garantia solamente pot la falta de recibos ni pot su

imposibilidad de garantizar la realizaci6n de todas las acdvidades de

mantenimiento programadas.

Como propietario del motor pequefio para exteriores, usted siempre debe

tenet en ¢uenta que BSPP podr_ negar la cobertura de la garantla si su motor

peque_o para exteriores o una parte del mismo presen_a _a_las debido a abuso,

desculdo, mantenimiento incorrec_o o modiflcaeiones no aprobadas.

Usted es responsable de presencar su motor pequefio pm_ exteriores a un

Centro de servido BSPP aprobado tan pronto como se presence eI problema.

Las reparaciones bajo garantia deber_n concluirse en un perlodo razonab_e,

que no excede_ de 30 dlas.

Disposiciones de la garantia de BSPP contra defectos en el control

de emislones

Las siguientes son disposiciones especiflcas relacionadas con la cobertu_ de la

garantia contra defectos en el control de emisiones.

I. Partes garantlzadas

La cobertu_3 baio esta gm_ntia induye solamente aquellas partes que se

enumeran a ¢ontin_aci6n (las partes del sistema de control de emisiones)

en la medlda que dicbas partes hayan estado presentes en el motor

adqulrido.

a. Sistema de medlci6n de combustible,

Sistema de enriquecimiento pa_ arranque en frio.

Carburador y partes internas.

Bomba de combustible.

b. Sistema de inducci6n de aire.

Filtro de aire.

Colector de ent_da.

c. Sistema de ignici6n.

Bujlas.

Sistema de ignicibn pot magneto.

d. Sistema catalizador.

Convertidor catalidco.

Colector de escape.

Sistema de inyecci6n de aire o vglvula por impulsos.

e. Distintos elementos utilizados en los slstemas anteriores.

V_lvulas e interruptores de ratio, tempe_tura, posici6n y de

detecci6n de dempo.

Conectores y coniuntos.

Vigencla de la cobertura

BSPPgarantiza al propietario initial y a cada propietario subsiguiente que

las partes garantizadas esta_n libres de defectos en material yen mano

de obra, que ocasionen fallas de las partes ga_ntizadas durante un

perlodo de dos afios a partir de la fecha en que el motor sea entregado

al comprador mlnorista.

No habrg cargos

La repm_ci6n o reemplazo de cualquier parte garantizada se realiza_ sin

cargo alguno para el propie_ario, incluyendo la mano de ob_ de

diagn6stico que derive en la determinaci6n de que una parte garantizada

es_ defectuosa, si la labor de di_gn6stico se realiza en un Centro de

servicio BSPPaprobado.

Reclamos y excluslones de ¢obertu_

Los reclamos vincubdos con la garanda se presentar_n conforme a Ias

disposidones de _aP61iza de ga_ntia de BSPRLa cobert_ de la ga_ntia

se excluh-_ para aquellas fallas de partes garantizadas que no sean partes

originales de BSPPo debido a abuso, descuido o mantenimiento

incorrecto, segSn se establece en la P61iza de ga_ntia de motores de

BSP£ BSPPno es responsable pot la cobertu_ de fa_lasde partes

garantizadas ocasionadas por el uso de partes adiciona_es, no originales o

modificadas.

Hantenlmiento

Cualquier parte garantizada cuyo reemplazo no est_ programado como

man_enimiento requerido o que est_ programada Onicamente para

inspecci6n frecuen_e con el fin de "reparar o reemplazar ¢onforme sea

necesario", estar_ garantizada en ¢uanto a de_eetos pot el perlodo de la

garan_ia. Cualquier parte ga_ntizada cuyo reemplazo est_ pro_ramado

como mantenimiento requerido _endrk solamen_e una garanrJa contra

defectos _nicamen_:e pot el perlodo basra e_ primer reemp{azo

programado para esa parte. Se podr_ utilizar ¢ua_quier par_e de repuesto

que tenga un rendimiento y d_rabilidad equivalentes, 21 rea_izar ¢uaIquier

actividad de mantenimiento o reparaci6n. El propietario es responsable

de realizar todo el mantenimiento requerido, segOn se degne en este

manual del propietario.

Cobertura conslgulente

La cobertu_ baio la presente se ampiiar_ a la faIla de cualquier

componente del motor provocada por un desperfecto en cualquler parte

garantizada que siga gozando de la cobertura de la garantia.

Acerca de la seguridad de suequipo:

Nosotros reciben las reparaciones bajo la garanttay le pide disculpas pot cualquier inconvenienciacausada.Cualquier Concesionario de

Servicio Autorizado puede Ilevar a cabo reparaciones bajo la garantia. La mayoria de lasreparaciones baio la garantia son maneiadas

normalmente, pero algunasveces la solicitud del servicio de garantia es posible que no seaapropiada. Por ejemplo, la garantia no ser_

v_lida si el dafio al equipo ocurri6 debido al mal uso, falta de mantenimiento adecuado,manelo, envio, almacenamiento o una instalaci6n

inadecuada.De manera similar,la garantia queda anuladasi se ha borrado la fechade fabricaci6n o el n6mero de serie del equipo o si el

equipo ha sido alterado o modificado. Durante el periodo de la garantta, el Comerciante Autorizado del Servicio hace,en es la opci6n,

la reparaci6n o reemplaza cualquier parte eso, sobre el examen se encuentran para ser defectuoso bajo el uso y el servicio normales.

Estagarantia no cubrir_ las reparaciones y el equipo siguientes:

Oesgaste normal: Equipo el6ctrico al aire libre, como todos los aparatos mecgnicos, necesita partes, servicio y reemplazo,

peri6dicamente, para que funcione bien. Estagarantia no cubre la reparaci6n cuando el uso normal ha acabado con la vida de una

parte en particular o del equipo.

Instalaci6n y mantenimiento: Estagarantia no seaplica al equipo o parte que haestado suleta a una instalaci6n inadecuada,que

no hayasido autorizada o a cualquier tipo de alteraci6n, el mal uso, negligencia,accidentes,sobrecarga, velocidad excesiva,

mantenimiento inadecuado,reparaci6n o almacenamiento, en nuestro juicio, hartafectado desfavorablemente su rendimiento y

fiabilidad. Estagarantia tambi6n no cubre el mantenimiento normal tales como ajustes,limpieza del sistemade combustibn y la

obstruccibn (debido a materias quimicas, suciedad, carb6n o cal, etc.)

Otras exclusiones: Tambi6n seencuentran excluidos de est_ garantta, el desgastede los articulos tales como, conectadores,

medidores de aceite, correas, anillos O, flltros, empaque de la bomba, etc. las bombas que se haganfuncionar o trabajar sin agua,o

dafios y malfuncionamientos que resulten de accidentes, abusos,modificaciones, alteraciones, un servicio inadecuado, congelamiento

o deterioro quimico. Los accesorios tales como pistolas, mangueras,varillas y boquillas est_n excluidos de la garantta del producto.

Tambi6n seexcluye el equipo usado, reacondicionado y destinado a demostraciones; el equipo utilizado como fuente principal de

energia en lugar del servicio de la compahia proveedora de electricidad y el equipo destinado a aplicaciones utilizadas para mantener

la vida.

We welcome warranty repair and apologize to you for being inconvenienced.Any Authorized service dealer may perform warranty

• Installation and Maintenance: This warranty does not apply to equipment or parts that havebeen subjected to improper or

unauthorized installationor alteration and modification, misuse, negligence,accident, overloading, overspeeding,improper

maintenance, repair or storage so as,in our judgment, to adversely affect its performance and reliability. This warranty also

does not cover normal maintenance suchasadjustments, fuel system cleaningand obstruction (due to chemical, dirt, carbon or

• Other Exclusions: Also excluded from this warranty are wear itemssuch asquick couplers, oil gauges,belts, o-rings, filters,

pump packing,etc., pumps which havebeen run without water supplied or damageor malfunctions resulting from accidents,
