Safety Instruction
Use of products
The following products are covered by this operating manual:
• xub5, xub10, xub12, xub18, xub25 115V
The products listed above are a series of general purpose ultrasonic cleaning baths
designed for indoor use by a professional user.
Electrical
Connect to an 115VAC 60Hz fully earthed supply.
It would be dangerous to operate an ultrasonic bath without an earth connected.
The unit is supplied with a removeable mains lead rated at 10A. Do not use a power
lead rated less than 10A.
The removeable mains lead is the disconnect device and should remain accessible
while the unit is in use.
Ensure that excess mains cable is stored neatly.
General use
Ensure that the bath contains liquid before you switch it on.
Always use a basket to support items to be cleaned.
Not doing so may damage the bath and invalidate your warranty.
Do not place hands or fingers in the bath.
Care should be taken when operating the bath at higher temperatures as external
surfaces may become hot.
Never use toxic, flammable, acidic, caustic or corrosive solutions in the bath.
Avoid moving the bath when it is full of water.
Read the whole of these instructions. Safety may be impaired if they are not followed.
Contact Grant or its agent for advice on cleaning techniques or detergents.
Grant will not be responsible for damage or injury caused by incorrect use of the
equipment.

Installation
The following parts and accessories are included with the Grant digital ultrasonic bath:
- 1 x basket
- 1 x lid
- 1 x MC card and MC USB card reader
- 1 x 2m length of drain hose
- 1 x hose tail
- 1 x Grant M2 detergent sample
- 1 x power cable (IEC C13 plug to NEMA 5-15P)
How to install
Screw the hose connector into the drain valve located on the rear of the unit.
Locate the unit close to a drain or sink.
Connect one end of the drain hose to the hose connector, and locate the other end
over a drain or sink.
Connect the mains lead into a suitable mains socket.
Ensure that the mains plug and the switch are easily accessible.
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath is now ready to use.

Controls
Ensure your Grant digital ultrasonic bath is plugged into
a 115VAC 60Hz fully earthed supply.
Once plugged in, switch on your Grant digital bath
via the power on/off switch at the rear of the unit.
The switch will then illuminate.
The Grant digital bath is operated through a menu driven control system:
The different keys perform the following functions:
KEY 1: – Starts and ends the ultrasonic cycle
KEY 2: Menu – Scroll through the menu
KEY 3: Up/On – Adjust the settings in the options menu
KEY 4: Down/Off – Adjust the settings in the options menu

Maximum
Fill Line
Quick guide
Pour cold water into the bath so that it reaches the liquid level sensor but does not go
over the maximum fill line.
Add the required dose of detergent (see page 24).
Switch on the machine via the switch at the rear of the unit, just above the electrical
mains lead.
Press the “ ” key to accept the programmed cleaning cycle settings and start the
cleaning cycle.
At the end of the cleaning cycle, remove the basket from the bath and rinse the
cleaned items under clean running water. The lid can be inverted and the basket
placed on top to catch excess liquid as the items dry.
REMEMBER
- Always keep the bath full of liquid when in operation
- Do not put hot water above 50°C (120°F) into the bath
- Always use the basket
- Never expose hands, fingers or other body parts to cleaning solutions
- Never use toxic, flammable, acidic, caustic or corrosive solutions
- Never breathe the fumes from strong solutions
- Rinse the items in clean water once the cycle is complete
Subjecting the bath to improper treatment or misuse will invalidate the warranty.

Operator instructions
When the Grant digital bath power is turned on and the bath is full of liquid, the
following screens will display alternately.
When the water temperature is at or above the temperature set, the message “Temp
OK” will display.
To immediately start the cycle using the already set cleaning parameters, press the
key.
The Grant digital bath remembers the set parameters from the previous cycle. If the
operator wants to run the same cleaning cycle, it is therefore not necessary to run
through the menu each time.

When the Grant digital ultrasonic bath power is turned on and the liquid level is too
low, the following screen will display.
The level sensor can be disabled for specialist cleaning applications where deionised
(DI) water is used (see page 19).
When the bath is filled with liquid to the correct level, you will be given the option to
degas (see page 25).
By choosing YES, your Grant digital ultrasonic bath will run an automatic degas cycle.
The following screen will display.
The degassing process is to remove all bubbles from the water as these impede the
cleaning performance. Once all of the bubbles have come to the surface, complete the
degassing cycle by pressing the key.
Note: If the machine detects low liquid level for more than 5 seconds, it is assumed
that the bath has been filled with fresh water, and you will be given the option of
running a degas cycle.

Operator menu
A number of the Grant digital ultrasonic bath cleaning parameters can be altered.
To access the options menu and scroll through the various changeable parameters,
press the MENU key, when the following screen is displayed.
To scroll through the menu, press the MENU key.
To exit the MENU at any time, press the key.

Screen 1: Setting the temperature
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath is fitted with a thermostat and heaters to ensure the
temperature of the cleaning liquid is maintained at the set temperature.
Use the UP and DOWN keys to accurately set the desired temperature of the cleaning
liquid between ambient and 70°C (160°F).
During normal use, the water heaters in your Grant digital ultrasonic bath will switch
on if the cleaning liquid temperature is lower than the set temperature.
[As a safety feature, your Grant digital ultrasonic bath will only turn on when the bath
is full of liquid.]
Please note that during normal operation, ultrasonic energy will heat the cleaning
liquid by up to 15°C (60°F) per hour.
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath cannot cool the cleaning liquid. If the liquid
temperature becomes too hot, you must either let it cool down, or refill the bath with
cooler water.
When the correct temperature is selected, use the MENU key to move to the next
screen.
SAFETY NOTICE: When the temperature is set above 54°C (130°F), the case of the
Grant digital ultrasonic bath will become hot and care should be taken when touching
the case.
A warning label is included in the literature pack that may be applied to the
unit if deemed necessary following a risk assessment
(see ISO 13732-1:2006).

Screen 2: Setting the cycle time
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath is factory pre-set with a cycle time of 15 minutes.
Use this screen to amend the cycle time. Use the UP and DOWN keys to scroll
through the numbers in order to increase or decrease the time.
When the desired cycle time has been selected, use the MENU key to move to the
next screen. This time setting will be saved until changed again in the Operator menu.
Screen 3: Setting the power level
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath allows the power level of the ultrasonic activity to be
adjusted. This allows the cleaning cycle to be accurately tailored to the specific
cleaning application.
Use the UP and DOWN keys to scroll through the numbers between 50 and 100%.
When the desired power level has been selected, use the MENU key to move to the
next screen.

Screen 4: Degas
As well as the automatic degas function that you are offered when the machine is first
switched on, this menu function allows you to run a degas cycle whenever a cleaning
cycle is initiated.
Use the ON and OFF keys to select the required option (see page 25)
If you switch the degas function ON, your Grant digital ultrasonic bath will run a degas
cycle every time the cycle start key is depressed.
Once the desired option is selected, press the MENU key to move to the next screen.

Screen 5: Frequency leap
Your Grant digital ultrasonic bath is equipped with Frequency LEAP technology to
provide more homogeneous ultrasonic cleaning activity throughout the whole tank.
Using advanced software and generators, the Grant digital ultrasonic bath uses
Frequency LEAP to create a pseudo-random leaping action between a wider
frequency range, reducing standing waves and improving the cleaning action.
For different cleaning applications the operator can choose between Frequency LEAP
and fixed frequency ultrasonic activity.
Use the ON and OFF keys to select the required option.
Once the correct option is selected, press the MENU key to move to the next screen.

Starting the cycle
Once all the Operator Menu options have been selected,
the following screen will display.
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is now ready for use.
Press the key to begin the cleaning cycle.
When the Grant digital ultrasonic bath is in operation, the following screen will display.
(The actual time and temperature may show different values.)
The operator can abort the cycle at any time by pressing the key.
On successful completion of the cycle, the following message will be displayed for
three seconds.

Cycle abort modes
If the cycle is aborted, the reason for the failure will be displayed.
If the operator aborts the cycle, the following screen will be displayed.
If the Level sensor is set to ON, and the liquid drops below the required level during
operation, the cleaning cycle will stop and the following screen will be displayed.
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath will not operate again until the tank is filled to the
correct level.
If the power to the ultrasonic generator should fall below a certain level during
operation, the cleaning cycle will stop and the following screen will be displayed.

If the liquid temperature exceeds the allowed maximum of 70°C (160°F), the following
screen will be displayed
If the internal heater exceeds its allowed maximum, the following screen will be
displayed.
If the unit overheats due to prolonged use, the following message will be displayed
In each instance of a cycle abort, the cycle count in the Advanced Menu will still log
the cycle as complete.

Advanced menu
The Advanced Menu allows different settings to be specified which may not require
regular changes and also allows the usage history of the individual Grant digital
ultrasonic bath to be seen.
To access the advanced menu, press and hold Keys 3 and 4 together.
The following screen will then appear:
In order to scroll through the settings available in the Advanced Menu, press the
MENU key.
You may exit the Advanced Menu at any time by pressing the key.
Screen 1: Serial number
The first screen shows the unique serial number of your Grant digital ultrasonic bath
and the version of software (The numbers in the image below will not reflect your
model).
Press the MENU key to move to the next screen.

Screen 2: Time used
This screen shows the total time your Grant digital ultrasonic bath has been in use in
days, hours and minutes; i.e. the sum of all the cleaning cycle times since new.
For example, the screen above shows that the bath has been in use for a total of 2
days, 5 hours and 27 minutes.
Screen 3: Clock
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is fitted with a real time clock. This is factory set to
the correct time and date, but can be changed by the operator.
To change the time and date, scroll through the settings by pressing the MENU key
and amend by pressing the UP and DOWN keys. When all the settings are correct,
press the MENU key to move to the next screen.
Screen 4: Cycle count
The second screen shows the number of cycles which the Grant digital ultrasonic bath
has run since new.
The cycle count shows all cycles which the bath has begun and includes those cycles
which are not completed; i.e. those cycles aborted by the operator or because the
liquid level was low.

Screen 5: Low power
In its factory pre-set mode, the Grant digital ultrasonic bath will maintain the set liquid
temperature. This means that it is consuming power when sitting idle (i.e. when the
sonics are not running).
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath can be set to save power when not in use.
Setting Low Power to ON means that after five minutes of inactivity, the Grant digital
ultrasonic bath will enter its SLEEP mode – the screen illumination will power down,
and the internal water heater will not operate.
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath uses less than 10 Watts of power whilst in SLEEP
mode.
By setting Low Power to OFF, the Grant digital ultrasonic bath screen will maintain the
set liquid temperature; i.e. when the liquid temperature falls below the specified
setting, the heaters will automatically switch on, meaning the bath is immediately
ready for use when required.
When the desired option is selected, use the MENU key to move to the next screen.

Screen 6: Liquid level sensor
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is fitted with a liquid level sensor to ensure it is not
under-filled prior to or during the cycle. This ensures that the optimum cleaning
process can occur and potential damage to the tank is minimised.
The level sensor is a resistive device, so will not detect liquids with very low
conductivity such as pure deionised (DI) water.
The level sensor can be disabled for specialist applications where deionised (DI)
water is used.
Use the ON and OFF keys to set the Low Level function. When the desired option is
selected, use the MENU key to move to the next screen.
Screen 6a: Liquid Level Sensor
When the OFF button is pressed and the key is selected to continue, a message
will appear to check that the operator has filled the tank up to the level indicated (see
page 5).
When the level sensor is disabled the liquid set temperature is automatically reduced
to 5°C. The set temperature may be increased by entering the MENU system (see
page 9).

WARNING
Setting the liquid level sensor to OFF means that the Grant digital ultrasonic bath will
operate as if the bath were full of liquid.
This means that without water, the heaters will continue to operate and the surface
inside the bath will become extremely hot. It is therefore the operator’s responsibility
to ensure that the tank is filled with sufficient water when the liquid level sensor is
disabled.
If the Grant digital ultrasonic bath operates with insufficient liquid, the heaters will be
disabled as a safety feature and the following screens will be displayed:
To continue using the Grant digital ultrasonic bath, refill with liquid up to the liquid level
sensor and switch the unit off and on again.
If the bath is run dry this will invalidate the warranty on the Grant digital
ultrasonic bath.
A warning label is included in the literature pack that may be applied to the
unit if deemed necessary following a risk assessment
(see ISO 13732-1:2006).

Screen 7: Portable appliance testing
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is provided with this screen to make portable
appliance testing easier.
When the ON button is pressed, both the heater and the ultrasonic generator will turn
on, irrespective of any other programmed settings.
You will then be sure that the Grant digital ultrasonic bath is operating in the mode
required for accurate portable appliance testing.
Portable appliance testing should be conducted with water in the bath.
Once you have completed your tests, press the OFF button.

Using the memory card
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is fitted with a memory card (MC) slot which allows
digital validation of every cleaning cycle.
Simply insert an MC card into the slot located at the front of the Grant digital ultrasonic
bath to ensure that information on each cycle is saved to the MC card.
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is supplied with an MC card which allows easy
transfer of the cycle information from the ultrasonic bath to a PC.
In order to record the cycle parameters, always ensure the MC card is inserted into
the Grant digital ultrasonic bath prior to turning the power on.
By recording to an MC card and transferring to a PC, a permanent electronic record of
the cleaning cycle parameters can be saved.
The information is saved as a CSV file. This is automatically saved as cycles.csv on
the MC card and will open in any text editing software.
The information saved includes cycle number, cycle time, cycle temperature and
validation of the ultrasonic activity achieved during the cycle.

Recording and downloading the data
System Requirements:
- Windows 2000 SP4; XP SP2
- Mac OS 10.1.2+
- USB High Speed Hub Port (500mA)
- One available USB port
To record the saved data:
Always ensure the MC card is inserted into the Grant digital ultrasonic bath prior to
turning the power on.
The MC card will save the cycle results of each cycle until the card is removed.
Once you are ready to download the information, remove the MC card. Insert it into
the MC card reader provided and plug the card reader into the USB port of the PC.
There is a file on the MC card which is already set up to provide a template for
recording the data – cycles.csv. Open this file and the data will display in spreadsheet
format.
The file will show information of every cycle run while the MC card has been in place
in the Grant digital ultrasonic bath.
To ensure that the next cycle information is recorded on the MC card, switch off the
Grant digital ultrasonic bath and reinsert the MC card before switching the bath on
again.
The data will only be saved to the MC card, if it is inserted before the machine is
switched on. If the MC card is inserted when the Grant digital ultrasonic bath is
already switched on, the data will not be recorded.

Ultrasonic detergents
Detergents are a vital component in the ultrasonic process, aiding in the removal and
loosening of debris from the surfaces of items placed in the tank while also
intensifying the power of the ultrasonic activity.
Grant offers a specially formulated ultrasonic detergent for use in many applications.
Grant M2 is a general purpose detergent for all plastics, glass and metals (expect
aluminium and other soft metals) which is also suitable for use on medical
instruments.

Directions for use: Add 25-50ml of M2 per litre of water in the ultrasonic bath.
Warning: Grant M2 may cause etching to aluminium and other soft metals.

Technical information
The need to degas
In order to allow optimum ultrasonic activity, the gases present in ordinary tap water
need to be driven out of the cleaning solution.
The time needed to degas the liquid varies depending on the amount of gas present in
the liquid and the quantity of water in the tank. Grant recommends a degas period of
at least 10 minutes.
During the degas cycle, you will see bubbles of gas forming on the inside of the bath,
and slowly rising to the surface. Degassing is complete when you can no longer see
these bubbles.
Another indication that the liquid in the bath has degassed is an increase in the
appearance of ‘cold boiling’ at the liquid surface.
Once the liquid is degassed, the bath is immediately useable and will run the cleaning
cycle.
The effect of heat
Heating the liquid in the bath
will aid the cleaning process.
Normally a temperature of
between 30 to 60°C (90 to
140°F) is sufficient to
accelerate the process. You
will see from the graph that
optimum cleaning will be
obtained at 60°C (140°F).
If you are using your bath to clean medical equipment, it is recommended to limit the
liquid temperature to 35°C (95°F). This will avoid “baking” proteins.
Ultrasonic activity itself will heat up the liquid at a rate of approximately 10-15°C
(50 to 60°F) per hour if in continuous use.
Cleaning time
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is factory preset with a cleaning time of 15 minutes.
Some components may take longer or shorter to clean effectively depending on the
contaminants and the level of contamination.

Fuses
The IEC C14 electrical socket on the rear of the unit is fitted with 2x T10A (slow blow)
fuses. Never fit a fuse of a higher rating.

Troubleshooting
Grant has a dedicated service team who are able to resolve any problems that occur
with your Grant digital ultrasonic bath. However, on many occasions it is possible that
the problem can be rectified by the operator.

The unit fails to turn on (no
display is shown)
Check that the unit is plugged in and that mains
electricity is present.
The screen displays:
“Liquid Level Low”
Fill the Grant digital ultrasonic bath with water so that it is
above the fill line indicated inside the tank.
If you are using “pure” water (e.g. De-I or RO) ensure
that the detergent has been added.
The screen displays:
“Sonics Low”
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath is fitted with an
ultrasonic power detector, which monitors the ultrasonic
activity in the bath during a cleaning cycle.
If the ultrasonic power drops below a certain point, the
cycle will be incomplete and this message will display.
This is not necessarily caused by a problem with the
machine.
If this message displays, run another cycle to see if the
problem persists.
The screen displays:
“Heater OFF”
“Check Level”
“Switch Off to”
“enable Heating”
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath has detected that the
heaters operated above their rated temperature and has
disabled the heating function. This also disables a cycle
from starting. The most likely cause is the liquid
evaporating when the level sensor is switched off.
Switch the unit off, top up the fluid above the level sensor
and switch the unit on to reset the alarm.
The screen displays:
“Unit Overheat”
“Please Wait”
“Switch Off to”
“reset”
“menu”
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath has detected that the
ultrasonic generator on the unit has operated above the
rated temperature and has disabled the ultrasonic
function. This also disables a cycle from starting. The
most likely cause is the fluid evaporating when the level
sensor is switched off. Switch the unit off, allow the unit
to cool for a few minutes, top up the liquid above the level
sensor and switch the unit on to reset the alarm.
The screen displays:
“Over Temp”
The Grant digital ultrasonic bath has detected that the
water in the bath is above 75ºC and has aborted the
cycle. Please allow the liquid to cool or drain some and
replace with cooler liquid.

Maintenance
It is important to keep your bath clean. Not only will contaminated liquid reduce the
performance of the bath, it may also damage it. Change the cleaning liquid regularly.
Your cleaning process will determine how often to change the liquid – the more soiled
your items, the more often you will need to change the liquid. Change the cleaning
liquid at least daily.
The base of the bath generates the ultrasonic activity by vibrating at very high speeds.
If any contaminants are in contact with the bath, they act as an abrasive, causing wear
on the metal surface. In extreme cases, the bath will develop holes and start to leak.
Portable appliance testing should be conducted with water in the bath.
There are no user serviceable parts inside. All service and repair should be referred to
qualified Grant engineers only
Service contracts for your Grant digital ultrasonic bath are available from Grant.
Returning equipment to Grant
All equipment being returned to Grant for service, repair or other reason MUST BE
FULLY DECONTAMINATED prior to return and include a certificate of
decontamination.
Failure to do so may result in additional charges or the equipment being returned to
the user/sender at Grant’s discretion.
Ultrasonic baths which have been used in medical/healthcare applications should be
decontaminated/packaged in accordance with MHRA guideline document DB2003 (5)
‘Management of Medical Devices prior to Repair, Service or Investigation’. This can
be found at www.mhra.gov.uk.
This policy is designed to protect the health and safety of Grant employees, reducing
the risk of potential injury or infection.

Warranty
The warranty on Grant ultrasonic products applies to defects appearing within 36
months of the date of sale because of faulty material or manufacture. Genuine
defective items returned to Grant or its agent’s premises will be replaced or repaired
free of charge at their discretion.
The warranty is extended to 5 years on transducer assemblies and the bonding
process. If the transducers or bonding material are exposed to liquid or cleaning
chemicals, the warranty will be invalidated.
The warranty does not apply to
- normal wear and tear
- damage caused by misuse
- non-observance of maintenance, service or connection instructions
- damage caused by the use of toxic, flammable, acidic, caustic or corrosive
chemicals or liquids not recommended by Grant
The user should familiarise themselves with this instruction booklet before operating
the equipment and should apply to Grant or its agent for advice on cleaning
techniques or chemicals.
Grant will not be responsible for damage or injury caused by incorrect use.

Uso de productos
Este manual sirve para los siguientes productos:

Esta lista de productos describe una serie de baños ultrasónicos de uso general,
diseñados para el uso de profesionales en interiores.
Eléctricas
Connecte el aparato con un ecnhufe de tres clavijas a una toma de alimentación
de 115VAC 60Hz con toma de tierra.
El uso del baño ultrasónico sin toma de tierra puede ser peligroso.
La unidad se suministra con un cable de alimentación extraíble de 10A. No utilice
un cable de alimentación de menos de 10A.
El cable de alimentación extraíble es el dispositivo de desconexión y debe
permanecer accesible mientras la unidad está en uso.
Recoja ordenadamente el cable de alimentación sobrante para que no quede
suelto.
Uso general
Antes de encender el baño, cerciórese de que contiene líquido.
Utilice siempre un cesto para introducir los objetos que vaya a limpiar.
En caso contrario podría dañar el baño e invalidar la garantía.
No introduzca las manos ni los dedos en el baño.
Extreme las precauciones cuando emplee el baño a altas temperaturas, ya que

Instalación
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant se suministra con los siguientes componentes y
accesorios:
- 1 cesto
- 1 tapa

- 1 manguera de desagüe de 2 m
- 1 boquilla de manguera

Instrucciones de instalación
Enrosque el conector de la manguera en la válvula de desagüe situada en la
parte posterior de la unidad.
Coloque la unidad cerca de un sumidero o una pila.
Conecte un extremo de la manguera de desagüe al conector de la manguera y
coloque el otro extremo sobre un sumidero o una pila.
Conecte el cable de alimentación a una toma de red adecuada.

Mandos
Compruebe que el baño de ultrasonidos digital Grant
está conectado a una fuente de alimentación con
conexión a tierra de 115VAC 60Hz.
Una vez conectado, encienda el baño digital Grant con el
interruptor de encendido/apagado que se encuentra la

El interruptor se iluminará.

Línea de
llenado
Guía rápida
Vierta agua fría en el baño hasta que alcance la línea de llenado mínimo del
depósito (sin sobrepasar la de llenado máximo).
Añada la dosis de detergente necesaria (consulte la página 24).
Encienda el aparato con el interruptor de la parte posterior, situado justo encima
del cable de alimentación eléctrica.
Pulse la tecla START (Iniciar) para aceptar la configuración programada e iniciar
el ciclo de limpieza.
Al final del ciclo de limpieza, extraiga el cesto del baño y enjuague los objetos
lavados con agua corriente limpia. Puede darle la vuelta a la tapa y colocar el
cesto sobre ella para recoger el líquido que caiga al escurrir los objetos.
RECUERDE
- Mantenga el baño siempre lleno de líquido cuando esté en
funcionamiento.
- No llene el baño con agua a más de 50°C (120°F).
- Utilice siempre el cesto.
- No exponga nunca las manos, los dedos u otras partes del cuerpo a
soluciones limpiadoras.
- No emplee nunca soluciones tóxicas, inflamables, ácidas, cáusticas ni
corrosivas.
- No aspire nunca los vapores de soluciones fuertes.
- Enjuague los objetos con agua limpia una vez finalizado el ciclo.
Si somete el baño a un tratamiento o uso incorrecto, la garantía no será válida.

Instrucciones para el operador
Cuando se enciende el baño ultrasónico digital Grant y el baño está lleno de
líquido, aparecen consecutivamente estas pantallas.
Cuando la temperatura del agua es igual o superior a la temperatura ajustada,
aparece el mensaje “Temp OK” (Temperatura correcta).
Para iniciar inmediatamente el ciclo con los parámetros de limpieza ya
configurados, pulse la tecla .
El baño recuerda los parámetros configurados en el ciclo anterior, por lo que, si el
operador desea efectuar el mismo ciclo de limpieza, no tiene que recorrer de
nuevo el menú.

Cuando se enciende el baño de ultrasonidos digital Grant y el nivel de líquido es
demasiado bajo, aparecerá la siguiente pantalla.
El sensor de nivel se puede deshabilitar para aplicaciones de limpieza
especializadas donde se utiliza agua desionizada (DI) (consulte la página 19).
Cuando el baño se llena con el nivel correcto de líquido, aparecerá la opción de
desgasificar (consulte la página 25).
Si es el caso, debe desgasificar el líquido para asegurar la eficacia de la limpieza.
Al seleccionar YES, el baño de ultrasonidos digital Grant efectuará un ciclo de
desgasificación automático. Aparecerá siguiente pantalla.
El proceso de desgasificación consiste en eliminar todas las burbujas del agua ya
que estas impiden que se pueda efectuar la limpieza. Una vez que todas las
burbujas han llegado a la superficie, complete el ciclo de desgasificación al pulsar
la tecla .
Nota: Si la máquina detecta un bajo nivel de líquido durante más de 5 segundos,
se supone que el baño se ha llenado con agua fresca, y aparecerá la opción de
efectuar un ciclo de desgasificación.

Pantalla 1: Ajuste de la temperatura (Temp)
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant está provisto de un termostato y de calentadores
que mantienen la temperatura del líquido limpiador en el valor ajustado.
Utilice las teclas ARRIBA y ABAJO para ajustar con precisión la temperatura del
líquido de limpieza entre ambientale y 70°C (160°F)
Durante el uso normal, los calentadores de agua del baño se encienden cuando
la temperatura del líquido de limpieza es inferior a la ajustada. [Como medida de
seguridad, el baño sólo se enciende si está lleno de líquido].
Recuerde que, durante el funcionamiento normal, la energía de los ultrasonidos
calienta el líquido limpiador hasta 15 °C (60°F).
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant no puede enfriar el líquido limpiador. Si el líquido
se calienta demasiado, debe dejarlo enfriar o rellenar el baño con agua fría.
AVISO DE SEGURIDAD:
si la temperatura se ajusta por encima de 54°C (130°F), la carcasa del baño se
calienta y es preciso tener cuidado al tocarla.
Una vez seleccionada la temperatura correcta, utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a
la pantalla siguiente.
Se incluye una etiqueta de advertencia en el paquete
de documentación que puede aplicarse a la unidad si se considera
necesario una vez realizada una evaluación de riesgos (ISO 13732-
1:2006).

Pantalla 2: Ajuste de la duración del ciclo (Time)
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant viene predefinido de fábrica con una duración de
ciclo de 15 minutos. Esta pantalla permite modificarla. Utilice las teclas ARRIBA y
ABAJO para aumentar o disminuir los dígitos y con ellos el tiempo.
Una vez seleccionada la duración de ciclo correcta, utilice la tecla MENU para
pasar a la pantalla siguiente. Este ajuste se conservará hasta que lo vuelva a
modificar en el menú del operador.
Pantalla 3: Ajuste del nivel de potencia (Power)
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant permite regular el nivel de potencia ultrasónica y
así adaptar con exactitud el ciclo de limpieza a la aplicación de que se trate.
Utilice las teclas ARRIBA y ABAJO para aumentar o disminuir los dígitos entre 50
y 100%. Una vez seleccionado el nivel de potencia correcto, utilice la tecla MENU
para pasar a la pantalla siguiente.

Pantalla 4: Desgasificación (Degas)
Además de la función de desgasificación automática que ofrece el aparato la
primera vez que se enciende, esta opción de menú permite ejecutar un ciclo de
desgasificación siempre que se inicia un ciclo de limpieza.
Utilice las teclas ACTIVAR y DESACTIVAR para seleccionar la opción que desee
(consulte la importancia de desgasificación en la página 25).
Si se activa la función de desgasificación, el baño ejecuta un ciclo de
desgasificación cada vez que se pulsa la tecla de inicio de ciclo.
Una vez seleccionada la opción que desee, utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a la
pantalla siguiente.

Pantalla 5: Salto de frecuencia (Leap)
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant está equipado con la tecnología de salto de
frecuencia para uniformizar la acción de la limpieza ultrasónica en todo el
depósito.
Haciendo uso de generadores y software avanzados, el baño utiliza el salto de
frecuencia para generar saltos pseudoaleatorios en una gama de frecuencias
más amplia, lo que reduce las ondas estacionarias y mejora la limpieza.
Según la aplicación de limpieza en cuestión, el operador puede elegir entre salto
de frecuencia y ultrasonidos de frecuencia fija.
Utilice las teclas ACTIVAR y DESACTIVAR para seleccionar la opción que
desee.
Una vez seleccionada la opción correcta, utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a la
pantalla siguiente.

Inicio del ciclo
Tras seleccionar todas las opciones del menú del operador, aparece la pantalla
siguiente.
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant ya está listo para utilizarse.
Pulse la tecla INTRO para iniciar el ciclo de limpieza.
Cuando el baño está en funcionamiento, aparece la pantalla siguiente
(la hora y la temperatura reales pueden tener diferentes valores).
El operador puede cancelar el ciclo en cualquier momento con la tecla .
Al finalizar satisfactoriamente el ciclo, aparece el siguiente mensaje durante tres
segundos.

Modos de cancelación del ciclo
Si el ciclo se cancela, aparece en pantalla el motivo del fallo.
Si el operador cancela el ciclo, aparece la siguiente pantalla.
Si el sensor de nivel está activado y durante el funcionamiento la cantidad de
líquido desciende por debajo del nivel necesario, el ciclo de limpieza se detiene y
aparece la pantalla siguiente.
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant no volverá a ponerse en marcha hasta que el
depósito esté lleno al nivel correcto.
Si la potencia del generador de ultrasonidos desciende por debajo de un
determinado nivel durante el funcionamiento, el ciclo de limpieza se detiene y
aparece la pantalla siguiente.

Menú avanzado (Advanced Menu)
El menú avanzado permite especificar ajustes que normalmente no requieren
modificaciones periódicas y también ver el historial de uso del baño ultrasónico
digital Grant.
Para acceder al menú avanzado, mantenga pulsadas simultáneamente las teclas
3 y 4.
Aparece la pantalla siguiente:
Para recorrer las opciones disponibles en el menú avanzado, pulse la tecla
MENU.
Para salir del menú avanzado en cualquier momento, pulse la tecla .

Pantalla 2: Tiempo de uso (Time Used)
Esta pantalla muestra el tiempo total durante el que se ha utilizado el baño
ultrasónico digital Grant en días, horas y minutos, es decir, indica la suma del
tiempo de todos los ciclos de limpieza desde la adquisición del aparato.
Por ejemplo, la pantalla anterior muestra que el baño se ha utilizado un total de 2
días, 5 horas y 27 minutos.
Pantalla 3: Reloj
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant está provisto de un reloj en tiempo real. Viene
definido de fábrica con la fecha y la hora correctas, pero el operador puede
modificarlas.
Si desea cambiar la fecha y la hora, pulse la tecla MENU para desplazarse por
las opciones y utilice las teclas ARRIBA y ABAJO para efectuar los cambios. Una
vez seleccionados los valores correctos, utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a la
pantalla siguiente.
Pantalla 4: Recuento de ciclos (Cycle Count)
La segunda pantalla muestra el número de ciclos que ha efectuado el baño
ultrasónico digital Grant desde su adquisición.
El recuento de ciclos indica todos los ciclos que el baño ha iniciado e incluye los
que no se han finalizado, es decir, los que ha cancelado el operador o se han
interrumpido por un nivel de líquido insuficiente.

Pantalla 5: Ahorro de energía (Low Power)
En el modo predefinido de fábrica, el baño ultrasónico digital Grant mantiene el
líquido en la temperatura ajustada. Esto significa que consume energía cuando
está inactivo (es decir, cuando no emite ultrasonidos).
El baño puede configurarse para ahorrar energía si no se está utilizando.
Si se activa el ahorro de energía, a los cinco minutos de inactividad el baño entra
en modo de espera (SLEEP): la iluminación del visor se atenúa y el calentador de
agua interno deja de funcionar.
En modo de espera el baño utiliza menos de 10 vatios de energía.
Si se desactiva el ahorro de energía, el baño ultrasónico digital Grant mantiene el
líquido en la temperatura ajustada, es decir, los calentadores se encienden
automáticamente cuando la temperatura del líquido desciende por debajo del
valor especificado, lo que significa que el baño siempre está listo cuando hace
falta utilizarlo.
Una vez seleccionada la opción que desee, utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a la
pantalla siguiente.

Pantalla 6: Sensor de nivel de líquido (Level)
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant está provisto de un sensor de nivel de líquido
para asegurar que siempre esté suficientemente lleno antes del ciclo o en su
transcurso. De este modo se garantiza un proceso de limpieza óptimo y se
minimizan los posibles daños al depósito.
El sensor de nivel es un dispositivo resistivo, por lo que no detecta líquidos con
muy poca conductividad, como el agua pura desionizada (DI). El sensor de nivel
puede desactivarse para aplicaciones de limpieza especiales en las que se utiliza
agua desionizada. Utilice las teclas ACTIVAR y DESACTIVAR para configurar la
función de sensor de nivel de líquido. Una vez seleccionada la opción que desee,
utilice la tecla MENU para pasar a la pantalla siguiente.
Pantalla 6a: Sensor del nivel de líquido
Cuando se pulsa el botón de APAGADO y se selecciona la tecla para
continuar, aparecerá un mensaje para comprobar que el operador ha llenado el
depósito hasta el nivel indicado (consulte la página 5).
Cuando se desactiva el sensor de nivel, la temperatura del líquido establecida se
reduce automáticamente a 5°C (40°F). La temperatura establecida se puede
aumentar en el sistema de MENÚ (consulte la página 9).
Pantalla 6b: Sensor del nivel de líquido
Si se selecciona ‘NO’ aparecerá una instrucción solicitando que se llene el
depósito antes de usar.

ADVERTENCIA
Establecer el sensor de nivel de líquido como APAGADO significa que el baño de
ultrasonidos digital Grant funcionará como si el baño estuviese lleno de líquido.
Esto significa que sin agua, los calentadores continuarán funcionando y la
superficie interior del baño se calentará demasiado. Por lo tanto, el operador se
debe encargar de llenar el depósito con suficiente agua cuando se deshabilite el
sensor de nivel de líquido. Si el baño de ultrasonido digital de Grant funciona
con líquido insuficiente, los calentadores se desactivarán como medida de
seguridad y aparecerán las siguientes pantallas:
Para continuar utilizando el baño de ultrasonido digital de Grant, rellene con
líquido hasta el sensor de nivel de líquido, y apague y vuelva a encender la
unidad.

El baño ultrasónico digital Grant incluye esta pantalla para facilitar la prueba PAT.
Cuando se pulsa el botón ACTIVAR, el calentador y el generador de ultrasonidos
se encienden sea cual sea la configuración de otros valores programados.
De este modo tendrá la certeza de que el baño funciona en el modo necesario
para realizar una prueba PAT precisa.
Esta prueba debe realizarse con el baño lleno de agua.
Una vez finalizada la comprobación, pulse el botón DESACTIVAR.

Uso de la tarjeta MC
El baño digital Grant lleva una ranura para tarjetas MC que permite la validación
digital de cada ciclo de limpieza.
Basta con insertar la tarjeta MC en la ranura situada en la parte frontal del baño
ultrasónico digital para guardar la información sobre cada ciclo.
El baño digital Grant se suministra con un lector de tarjetas MC que facilita la
transferencia de la información sobre los ciclos del aparato a un ordenador.
Para registrar los parámetros de los ciclos, asegúrese siempre de insertar la
tarjeta MC en el baño digital Grant antes de encenderlo.
Si guarda la información en una tarjeta MC y la transfiere a un ordenador, podrá
mantener un registro electrónico permanente de los parámetros de los ciclos de
limpieza.
La información se guarda como un archivo CSV. Dicha información se guarda
automáticamente como cycles.csv en la tarjeta MC y se puede abrir en cualquier
software de edición de texto.
La información almacenada incluye número de ciclo, duración y temperatura del
ciclo y validación de la actividad ultrasónica alcanzada durante el ciclo.

Registro y descarga de datos
Requisitos del sistema:
- Windows 2000 SP4; XP SP2
- Mac OS 10.1.2+
- Puerto concentrador USB de alta velocidad (500 mA)
- Un puerto USB disponible
Para registrar los datos guardados:
Asegúrese siempre de insertar la tarjeta MC en el baño digital Grant antes de
encenderlo.
La tarjeta MC guardará los resultados del cada ciclo hasta que se extraiga.
Extraiga la tarjeta MC cuando esté listo para descargar la información. Insértela
en el lector de tarjetas MC suministrado y conecte el lector al puerto USB del
ordenador.
La tarjeta MC contiene el archivo Grant.xls que ya está configurado como plantilla
para registrar los datos. Abra este archivo y los datos se mostrarán en formato de
hoja de cálculo.
El archivo contiene información de todos los ciclos efectuados con la tarjeta MC
insertada en la ranura del baño ultrasónico digital Grant.
Para asegurar el registro de la información del próximo ciclo en la tarjeta MC,
apague el baño y vuelva a insertar la tarjeta antes de encenderlo de nuevo.
Los datos sólo se guardan en la tarjeta si esta se inserta antes de encender el
aparato. Si la tarjeta MC se inserta con el baño ultrasónico digital Grant ya
encendido, los datos no se registran.

Detergentes para ultrasonidos
Los detergentes son un componente fundamental del proceso ultrasónico, ya que
ayudan a eliminar y desprender la suciedad de la superficie de los objetos
introducidos en el depósito y a la vez intensifican el efecto de los ultrasonidos.
Grant ofrece un detergente con una fórmula especial que puede emplearse en
muchas aplicaciones.
Grant M2 es un detergente de uso general para todo tipo de plásticos, vidrios y
metales (excepto aluminio y otros metales blandos) que también es válido para
instrumental médico.

Información técnica
Necesidad de desgasificación
Para optimizar la actividad ultrasónica, es preciso extraer de la solución
limpiadora los gases presentes en el agua corriente normal.
El tiempo necesario para desgasificar el líquido varía en función de la cantidad de
gas que contenga y de la cantidad de agua del depósito. Grant recomienda un
periodo de desgasificación de al menos 10 minutos.
Durante el ciclo de desgasificación, es posible apreciar la formación de burbujas
de gas en el interior del baño que suben lentamente a la superficie. La
desgasificación ha finalizado cuando ya no se ven estas burbujas.
El aumento de cavitación en la superficie del líquido también es un indicio de que
este se ha desgasificado.
Una vez desgasificado el líquido, el baño está listo para su uso inmediato y para
ejecutar un ciclo de limpieza.
Efecto del calor
Calentar el líquido del baño
favorece el proceso de
limpieza.
Normalmente, una
temperatura de entre 30 y
60ºC (90 to 140°F) basta para
acelerar el proceso. En el gráfico
siguiente verá que la limpieza
óptima se logra a 60 °C (140°F).
Si va a utilizar el baño para limpiar instrumental médico, le recomendamos que
limite la temperatura del líquido a 35°C (95°F). Así no podrá “cocer” proteínas.
La propia actividad ultrasónica calienta el líquido a una velocidad aproximada de
10-15°C (50 to 60°F) por hora en uso continuo. Para calentar el líquido del
depósito con más rapidez, es aconsejable generar ultrasonidos y a la vez
encender el calentador.
Duración de la limpieza
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant viene predefinido de fábrica con una duración de
limpieza de 15 minutos. Algunos componentes pueden tardar más o menos en
limpiarse con eficacia según los contaminantes y el nivel de contaminación.

Solución de problemas
Grant cuenta con un equipo exclusivo de personal de asistencia capaz de
resolver cualquier problema que presente el baño ultrasónico digital Grant. Sin
embargo, es posible que en muchas ocasiones el operador pueda solucionar el
problema.

La unidad no se enciende (el
visor no muestra nada).
Compruebe si la unidad está enchufada y si hay electricidad en
la red de alimentación.
El visor muestra:
“Liquid Level Low”
(Nivel de líquido insuficiente).
Llene el baño ultrasónico digital Grant de agua hasta
sobrepasar la línea de llenado del interior del depósito.
Si emplea agua “pura” (por ejemplo, agua DI u OI), asegúrese
de añadir el detergente.
El visor muestra:
“Sonics Low”
(Potencia ultrasónica baja).
El baño ultrasónico digital Grant está provisto de un detector de
potencia ultrasónica que supervisa la actividad de los
ultrasonidos del baño durante el ciclo de limpieza.
Si la potencia ultrasónica desciende por debajo de un
determinado nivel, el ciclo se interrumpe y aparece este
mensaje. No se trata necesariamente de un problema del
aparato.
Si aparece este mensaje, efectúe otro ciclo para ver si persiste
el problema.
Aparece en la pantalla:
“Heater OFF”
(Calentador apagado)
“Check Level”
(Comprobar el nivel)
“Switch Off to
enable Heating
(Apagar Habilitar calefacción)
El baño de ultrasonido digital de Grant ha detectado que los
calentadores han funcionado por encima de su temperatura
nominal y, por tanto, se ha desactivado la función de
calefacción. Esto también desactiva el inicio de un ciclo. La
causa más probable es que el líquido se haya evaporado
mientras el sensor de nivel no estaba en funcionamiento.
Apague la unidad, rellénela hasta que sobrepase el sensor de
nivel y encienda la unidad para restablecer la alarma.
Aparece en la pantalla:
“Unit Overheat”
“Please Wait”
“Switch Off to”
“reset”
“menu”
El baño de ultrasonido digital de Grant ha detectado que el
generador de ultrasonidos en la unidad ha funcionado por
encima de la temperatura nominal y ha desactivado la función
ultrasónica. Esto también desactiva el inicio de un ciclo. La
causa más probable es que el líquido se evapore cuando se
apaga el sensor de nivel. Apague la unidad, deje que la unidad
se enfríe durante unos minutos, rellene con líquido por encima
del sensor de nivel y encienda la unidad para restablecer la
alarma.
Aparece en la pantalla:
“Over Temp”
El baño de ultrasonido digital de Grant ha detectado que el agua
en el baño está por encima de 75ºC (165ºF) y ha abortado el
ciclo. Deje que el líquido se enfríe o drene algo de líquido y
reemplace con líquido refrigerador.

Mantenimiento
Es importante mantener el baño limpio. El líquido contaminado no sólo reduce el
rendimiento del baño, sino que también puede dañarlo. Cambie regularmente el líquido
limpiador. El proceso de limpieza determinará la frecuencia de renovación del líquido:
cuanto más sucios estén los objetos, más a menudo habrá que cambiar el líquido. Cambie
el líquido limpiador al menos una vez al día.
La actividad ultrasónica se genera en la base del baño al vibrar a velocidades muy
elevadas. Los contaminantes que entran en contacto con el baño actúan como agentes
abrasivos y desgastan la superficie metálica. En casos extremos, el baño se perfora y
empieza a perder agua. La comprobación de aparatos portátiles (prueba PAT) debe
realizarse con el baño lleno de agua.
La unidad no contiene piezas reparables por el usuario. Todas las tareas de
mantenimiento y reparación deben realizarlas únicamente técnicos cualificados de Grant.
Grant ofrece contratos de mantenimiento para baños ultrasónicos digitales.
Envío del equipo a Grant
Todos los equipos que se envíen a Grant para mantenimiento, reparación u otros motivos
DEBEN ESTAR COMPLETAMENTE DESCONTAMINADOS antes del envío e ir
acompañados de un certificado de descontaminación.
En caso contrario, Grant puede aplicar un recargo o devolver el equipo al
usuario/remitente a su discreción.
Los baños ultrasónicos utilizados en aplicaciones médicas/sanitarias deben
descontaminarse y embalarse de conformidad con el documento DB2003(5) de la MHRA
“Management of Medical Devices prior to Repair, Service or Investigation”, que puede
encontrarse en www.mhra.gov.uk.

reducir el riesgo de lesiones e infecciones posibles.

Garantía
La garantía de los productos ultrasónicos Grant cubre los defectos de material o
fabricación que aparecen en el plazo de 36 meses desde la fecha de la venta. Se
reemplazarán o repararán los artículos enviados a las instalaciones de Grant o
sus representantes que a juicio de Grant estén verdaderamente defectuosos.
La garantía se prolonga cinco años para transductores y hasta cinco años para el
proceso de unión. Si los transductores o el material de unión se exponen a
líquidos o productos químicos de limpieza, la garantía quedará invalidada.
La garantía no cubre:
- El uso y desgaste normales.
- Los daños causados por un uso incorrecto.
- El incumplimiento de las instrucciones de mantenimiento, reparación o
conexión.
- Los daños causados por el uso de productos químicos o líquidos tóxicos,
inflamables, ácidos, cáusticos o corrosivos no recomendados por Grant.
Antes de utilizar el equipo, el usuario debe familiarizarse con este manual de
instrucciones y solicitar información a Grant o a sus representantes sobre
técnicas y productos químicos de limpieza.
Grant no se responsabilizará de los daños o lesiones ocasionados por el uso
incorrecto del equipo.
Esta garantía no afecta a los derechos que otorga la ley.
