Battery charger

Even it" the CHARGE lamp is not lit, the batter2r

charger is not disconnected from the AC power

source (mains) as long as it is connected to the

wall outlet (wall socket). If some trouble occurs

while using the hattery charger, immediately shut

off the power by disconnecting the plug from the

wall outlet (wall socket).

Internal memory and "Memory

Stick Duo" media back up

Do not turn off the camera, remove the batter_

pack, or remove the "Memory Stick Duo" media

while the access lamp is lit. Otherwise, the

internal memory data or "Memory Stick Duo"

media may be damaged. Be sure to make a backup

copy to protect your data.

Notes on recording/playback

• Before you start recording, make u trial

recording to make sure that tile camera is

working correctly.

• The camera is neither dust-pronE nor splash-

proof, nor water-prooE Read "Precautions"

(page 32) belore operating tile camera.

• Avoid exposing the camera to water. If water

enters inside tile camera, a mallhnction may

occl/r, hi some cases, tile camera cannnt be

repaired.

• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other bright

light. It may cause tile malflmction of the

camera.

• Do not use tile camera near a location that

generates strong radio waves or emits radiation.

Otherwise, the camera may not properly record

or play back images.

• Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations

may cause malfi.mctions.

• If moistm'e condensation occurs, remove it

belore using the camera (page 32).

• Do not shake or strike the camera. It may cause

a malflmction and you may not be able to record

images. Furthernlore, the recording media may

become unusable or image data may be

damaged.

• Clean the flash snrlace before use. The heat of

flash emission may cause dirt on the flash

smi_.tce to become discolored or to stick to tile

flash surl'.tce, resulting in insufficient light

emission.

Notes on the LCD screen and

lens

• Tile LCD screen is manufactured using

extremely high-precisinn technology, so over

99.99% of tile pixels are operational for

efli_ctive use. However, some tiny black and/or

bright dots (white, red, blue or green) may

appear on the LCD screen. These dots are a

normal result of the manufacturing process, and

do not affect the recording.

• When tile battery level becomes low, the lens

might stop moving. Insert a charged battery

pack and turn on tile camera again.

On image data compatibility

• The camera c(mforms with DCF (Design rule

for Camera File system) universal standard

established by JEITA (Japan Electronics and

lnfi_rmation Technology Industries

Association).

• Sony does not guarantee that tile camera will

play back images recorded or edited with other

equipment, or that other equipment will play

back images recorded with tile camera.

On the overheat protection

The povv'er may go off atm_matically to protect the

camera depending on tile temperature of the unit

or tile battery pack. In this case, the message

appears on tile screen before the power goes off.

Warning on copyright

Tele,Asion programs, fihns, videotapes, and other

materials may be copyrighted. Unauthorized

recording of such materials may be contrary to the

provisions of the copyright laws.

Attach the strap to prevent the camera

from damage by being dropped.

1 Preparing the battery pack

_)lnsert the battery pack into the battery charger.

• Insert the battery pack as far as it will go, then press the back of the battery pack gently until it clicks.

OConnect the battery charger to the wall outlet (wall socket).

The CHARGE lamp lights up, and charging starts.

When the CHARGE lamp turns off. charging is finished (Normal charge). Also, the CHARGE lamp

may turn off when the temperature is outside of the recommended operating temperature (10 to 30°C),

as the charger is on standby.

Charging time

• The table above shows the time required to charge a lully depleted battery pack at a temperature of 25°C

(77°F). Charging may take longer depending on conditions of use and circumstances.

• See page 27 lot the number of images that can be recorded.

• Connect the battery charger to the nearest wall outlet (wall socket).

• When charging is finished, disconnect the power cord (mains lead) from the wall outlet (wall socket), and

remove the battery pack from the battery charger.

• Be sure to use the battery pack or the battery charger of the gelmine Sony brand.

To remove the battery pack/"Memory Stick Duo" media

Open the battery/"Memory Stick Duo" media cover.

"Memory Stick Duo" media Battery pack

Make sure that the access lamp is not

lit, then push the "Memory Stick Duo"

media in once.

Slide the battery eject lever.

Be sure not to drop the battery pack.

• Never remove the battery pack/"Memory Stick Duo" media when the access lamp is lit. This may cause

damage to data in the "Memory Stick Duo" media/internal memory.

3 Turningthe camera on/setting the clock

_) Press the ON/OFF (power) button.

O Set the clock with the control button.

1 Select the date display format with A/V, then press O.

2 Select each item with ._/1_ and set the numeric value with A/V, then press O.

3 Select [OK], then press O.

• The camera does nol have a ligature for superimposing dates on images. By using "PMB" in the CD-ROM

(supplied), you can print or save images wilh the dale.

• Midnighl is indicated as 12:00 AM, and noon as 12:00 PM.

To change the date and time

Select [Clock Settings] in the _ (Setup) screen (page 21).

Notes on when the power is turned on

• Once the battery pack is inserted in the camera, it may take time before operation becomes

possible.

• If the camera is running on battery power and you do not operate the camera for about three

minutes, the camera turns off automatically to prevent wearing down the battery pack (Auto

power-off function).

To cancel a selection, select an image you have selected lot deletion, then press • again.

1 Turn on your computer, and insert the CD-

R(-)M (supplied) into the CD-ROM drive.

The installation menu screen appears.

When you click the [Cyber=shot Handbook]

button, the screen lor copying "Cyber-shot

Handbook" appears.

2 Follow the on-screen instructions to copy.

• When you install "Cyber=shot Handbook",

the "Cyber-shot Step-up Guide" will be

installed automatically.

3 After the installation is complete, double-

click the shortcut created on the desktop.

Turn on your computer, and insert the CD-

ROM (supplied) into the CD-ROM drive.

Select the [Handbook] li:)lder and copy

"Handbook.pdl" stored in the [GB] folder

to your computer.

camera stops recording automatically.

• The camera does not support HD recordings or playbacks for movies.

Troubleshooting

If you experience trouble with your camera, try the following solutions,

0 Removethebatterypack,wait foraboutoneminute,re-insertthebattery

pack,thenturnonthe power.

Initializethesettings(page24).

O ConsultyourSonydealerorlocalauthorizedSonyservicefacility.

Be aware that by sending the camera for repair, you give consent that the contents of the

internal memory may be checked.

Cannot insert the battery pack.

• Insert the battery pack correctly to push the battery eject lever (page l1).

Cannot turn on the camera.

• After inserting the battery pack into the camera, it may take a fcv_ moments for the camera to

power up.

• Insert the battery pack correctly (page 11).

• The battery pack is discharged. Insert a charged battery pack (page 10).

• The batte U pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

• Use a recommended battery pack.

The power turns off suddenly.

• If you do not operate the camera for about three minutes 1_hile the power is on, the camera

turns off automatically to prevent wearing down the battery pack. Turn on the camera again

(page 13).

• The batte U pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

• The power may go off automatically to protect the camera depending on the temperature of

the unit or the battery pack. In this case, the message appears on the screen before the power

goes off.

The remaining charge indicator is incorrect.

• This phenomenon occurs x,_henyou use the camera in an extremely hot or cold location.

• A discrepancy arose between the remaining charge indicator and the actual remaining battery

charge. Fully discharge the battery pack once, then charge it to correct the indication.

• The battery pack is discharged. Insert the charged battery pack (page 10).

• The battery pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

Cannot charge the battery pack.

•You cannot charge the battery pack using tile AC Adapter (sold separately).

The CHARGE lamp flashes while charging the battery pack.

• Remove tile battery pack being charged, and then insert tile sanle battery pack into the battery

charger securely again.

• The temperature may be outside of the recommended operating temperature. Charge the battery pack

in an recommended ambient temperature of between 10to 30°C (51)to 86°F) (BC-CSKA only).

Cannot record images.

• Check the free capacity of the internal memory or "Memory Stick Duo" media (pages 28, 29).

If it is full, do one of the following:

Delete unnecessary images (page 17).

Change the "Memory Stick Duo" media.

• You cannot record images while charging the flash.

• When shooting a still image, set the mode dial to a position other than _.

•Set the mode dial to _ when shooting movies.

Vertical streaks appear when you are shooting a very bright subject.

•Tile smear phenomenon is occurring and v_hite, black, red, fmrple, or other streaks appear on

the image. This phenomenon is not a malfunction.

Cannot play back images.

•Press the {_-' (Playback) button (page 17).

• The folder/l'ile name has been changed on your computer.

• Sony does not guarantee playback of image files on the camera if the files have been

processed using a computer or recorded with another camera.

•The camera is in USB mode. Delete the USB connection.

Precautions

Do not use/store the camera in

the following places

• In an extremel_ hot, cold or bmnid place

In places such as in a ca," parked in the sun, the

camera body may become delormed and this

may cause a mallhnction.

• Under direct sunlight or near a heater

The camera body may become discolored or

defk>rmed, and this may cause a malflmctiou.

• In a location subject to rocking vibration

• Near strong magnetic place

• In sandy or dusty places

Be careflfl not to let sand or dust get into the

camera. This )nay cause tbe camera to

malfi.mction, and in some cases this malflmctiou

cannot be repaired.

On carrying

Do not sit down ill a chair or other place with the

camera in the back pocket of your trousers or

skirt, as this may cause malfunction or damage the

camera.

On the battery pack

• Avoid rough handling, disassembling,

modifying, physical shock, or impact such as

hammering, dropping or stepping on the battery

pack.

• Do not use a delormed or damaged battery pack.

On cleaning

Cleaning the LCD screen

Wipe the screen surface with an LCD clemling kit

(sold separately) to remove fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the lens

Wipe the lens witb a sofl cloth to remove

fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the camera surface

(2lean tbe cmnera surface with a soft cloth slightly

moistened with water, tbeu wipe the surface with

a dry cloth. To prevent damage to the finish or

casing:

• Do not expose tbe camera to chemical products

such as thinner, benzine, alcohol, disposable

cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.

• Do not toucb the camera with any of the above

on your hand.

• Do not leave the camera in contact with rubber

or vinyl for a long time.

On operating temperatures

Your camera is designed f_tr use under the

temperatures between ()°C and 40°C (32°F anti

104°F). Shooting in extremely cold or hot places

that exceed this range is not recommended.

On moisture condensation

If the cmnera is brought directl) fi'om a cold to a

warm location, nloisture may coudeuse inside or

outside the camera. This moisture condensation

)nay cause a malfimction of the camera.

If moisture condensation occurs

Turn offthe camera and wait about an hour fk>rthe

moisture to evaporate. Note that if you shoot with

moisture remaining inside the lens, images will

not be clear.

On the internal rechargeable

backup battery

This camera has an internal rechargeable battery

for maiutaining the date and time anti other

settings regardless of whether the power is on or

off.

This rechargeable battery is continually charged

as long as you are using the camera. However, if

you use the camera for only short periods, it

discharges gradually, and if you do not use the

camera at all for about one mouth it becomes

completely discharged. In this case, be sure to

charge this rechargeable battery bulk>re using the

camera.

However, even if this recbargeable battery is not

charged, you can still use the camera, but the date

and time will not be indicated.

Copia de seguridad de la

memoria interna y del "Memory

Stick Duo"

No apague la c+'imara ni extraiga la baterfa ni el

"Memory Stick Duo" con el indicador de acceso

encendidn, ya que, de lo cnutrarin, es pnsible que

se prnduzcan dafios en los datos de la memnria

interna n del "Memory Stick Duo". Realice

siempre una cnpia de seguridad de sus darns para

protegerlns.

Notas sobre la grabacibn/

reproduccibn

• Antes de cnmenzar a grabar, realice una

grabacidn de prueba para asegurarse de que la

cfilnara fuucioua cnrrectameute.

• Esta cfimara no es resistente al polvo, a las

salpicaduras ni al agua. Lea "Precauciones"

(pfigiua 30) autes de utilizar la cfimara.

• Teuga cuidadn de no dejar que la cfimara se

mnje. Si se introduce agua en la cfimara, es

pnsible que se prnduzca un fallo de

ffmcinnamieuto. En algunns casos, no se pndrfi

reparar.

• No euloque la cfimara hacia el sol ni hacia otras

luces inteusas. Esto podrfa prnducir lallns de

ffmcinnamieuto eu dsta.

• No utilice la cfimara cerca de un lugar doude se

generen ondas de radio fi/ertes o se emita

radiaci6u. Es pnsible que la cfimara no grabe o

• Si se coudensa humedad, elimfnela antes de

utilizar la cfimara (pfigina 30).

• No agite ui gnlpee la cfimara. Estn podrfa

prnducir fallos de funcinnamientn y prnvncar

que no pueda grabar imfigenes. Ademfis, es

posible que el soporte de grabacidn quede

inutilizable o que los datos de las imfigenes se

darien.

• Limpie la superficie del flash antes de utilizarlo.

E1 calor de la emisi6u del flash puede hacer que

la supeHicie del flash se eusucie, que se

descnlore n iucluso se puede adherir a ella, lo

que ocasinuarfa una emisidn de luz insuficieute.

Notas sobre la pantalla LCD y el

objetivo

• La pantalla LCD est5 fabricada mediante

tecunlngfa de muy alta precisidn, de lorma que

mils del 99,99% de los pfxeles sou nperativns

para uso eli_ctivo. No ohstante, es pnsihle que se

nbserven cnustautemeute eu la pantalla LCD

pequefins puntns negrns y/n brillantes (blancns,

rnjos, azules o verdes). Estos puntns son

nnrmales en el prnceso de fabricaci6n y un

afectan eu mndn algunn a la grabaci6u.

• Cuaudo baje el nivel de la baterfa, puede que el

nhjetivo deje de moverse, lnserte una baterfa

cargada y vuelva a encender la cfimara.

de im_genes

• La cfimm'a cumple cou la norma universal DCF

(Design rule for Camera File system)

establecida pnr la JE1TA (Japan Electronics and

lulormation Technology Industries

Assnciatiou).

• Souy no garantiza la reproducci6u eu otros

equipos de imfigenes grabadas con su cfimara y

la reproducci6u eu la cfimara de imfigeues

grabadas n editadas con ntrns equipos.

Acerca de la protecci6n contra

sobrecalentamiento

Seg6n la temperatura tie la unidad o de la baterfa,

es posihle que la alimentacidu se apague

automfiticamente con el fin de prnteger la cfimara.

Eu este caso, aparecerfi un mensaje en la pautalla

antes de que se apague la unidad.

1 Preparaci6n de la bateria

(])lntroduzca la bateria en el cargador.

• lntroduzca por completo la baterfa y, a continuaci6n, presi6nela suavemente por la parte posterior

hasta que encaje.

Oeonecte el cargador de la bateria a una toma de pared.

E1 indicador luminoso CHARGE se enciende > la baterfa empieza a cargarse.

Cuando el indicador luminoso CHARGE se apaga, significa que la carga ha finalizado (carga normal).

Tambidn es posible que el indicador luminoso CHARGE se apague si la temperatura no se encuentra en

el intervalo de temperamra de funcionamiento recomendado (de 10 a 3(1°C) ya que en este caso, el

cargador se encontraffi en modo de espera.

_Tiempo de carga

• La tabla anterior indica el tiempo necesario para cargar una baterfa agotada por completo a una

temperamra de 25 °C

E1 tiempo de carga puede set mayor en determinadas circunstancias o condiciones de uso.

• Consulte en la pfigina 25 el nfimero de imfigenes que se pueden grabar.

• Conecte el cargador de la baterfa a la toma de pared mils cercana.

• Cuando la baterfa est6 cargada, desconecte el cable de alimentacidn de la toma de pared y retire la baterfa

del cargador.

• AsegOrese de utilizar la baterfa y el cargador de baterfa originales de la marca Sony.

2 Inserci6n de la batefia o de un "Memory Stick Duo" (se

vende por separado)

OAbra la tapa del compartimiento para la bateria/el "Memory Stick Duo".

i_ Inserte el "Memory Stick Duo" (se vende por separado).

O Introduzca la bateria.

i_Cierre la tapa del compartimiento para la bateria/el "Memory Stick Duo".

Cuando no hay insertado un "Memory Stick Duo"

La cfimara graba y reproduce imfigenes mediante la rnernoria interna (aprox. 12 MB)

Para comprobar la carga restante de la bateria

Pulse el bot(m ON/OFF (alimentaci6n) para encender la unidad y comprobar la carga restante

de la baterfa ell la pantalla LCD.

• La cfimara no dispone de hmci6n para superponer fechas a las imfigenes. Mediante el software "PMB"

incluido en el CD-ROM (suministrado), es posible imprimir o ahnacenar imfigenes con la fecha.

• La medianoche se indica como 12:00 AM y el mediodfa como 12:00 PM.

Notas sobre cuando la alimentacibn est_i activada

• Uua vez se ha iusertado la baterfa eu la cS.mara, es posible que deba esperar uuos miuuto

para poder utilizarla.

• Si no utiliza la cS.mara duraute uuos tres miuuto mieutras est6 fuucionaudo con baterfa, la

cS.mara se apaga automS.ticameute para evitar que la baterfa se descargue (fuucidn de

Soluci6nde problemas

Si tiene algtln problema con la cfimara, intente primero las siguientes soluciones.

O Extraigala bateria,espereaproximadamenteunminuto,vuelvaa insertarlay,

acontinuaci6n,conectelaalimentaci6n.

Tenga ell cuenta que al enviar la cfimara para repararla, da su consentimiento para que se

compruebe el contenido de la memoria interna.

No es posible insertar la bateria.

• lnserte la baterfa correctamente de modo clue dsta presione la palanca de expulsi6n de la

baterfa (pfigina 9).

No es posible encender la camara.

• Despuds de instalar la baterfa eta la cfimara, la cfimara puede tardar cierto tiempo en

encenderse.

• Inserle la baterfa correctamente (pfigina 9).

• La baterfa estd descargada. Inserte una baterfa cargada (p@ina 8).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida tltil. Reempl_icela pot una nueva.

• Utilice una de las baterfas recomendadas.

La alimentaci6n se desconecta de repente.

• Si no utiliza la cfimara durante unos tres minuto mientras estfi conectada la alimentacidn, la

c:imara se apaga automfiticamente para evitar que la baterfa se descargue. Encienda la cfimara

de nuew) (pfigina 11).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida fitil. Reempl:icela pot una nueva.

• Segtln la temperatura de la unidad o de la baterfa, es posible clue la alimentaci6n se apague

autom;iticamente con el fin de proteger la c_mara. Eta este caso, aparecer_ un mensaje eta la

pantalla antes de que se apague la unidad.

El indicador de bateria restante es incorrecto.

• Este fcn6mcno ocurrc cuando utiliza la c_hnara en un lugar muy cMido o muy frfo.

• La carga de baterfa rcstante que se indica difiere de la real. Descargue la baterfa totahnente y

vuelva a cargarla para corregir la indicaci6n.

• La baterfa est_ descargada. Inserle la baterfa cargada (pfigina 8).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida dtil. Reemphlcela por una nueva.

No es posible cargar la bateria.

• No es posible cargar la batcrfa mcdiante cl adaptador dc aliu_cntacidn de ca (so vende por

separado).

El indicador luminioso CHARGE parpadea durante la carga de la bateria.

• Extraiga la baterfa clue se estd cargando y, a continuacidn, insertc corrcctamentc la misma

baterfa de nuevo en el cargador de baterfas.

• Es posible que la temperatura se encuentre fuera del rango recomendado de temperatura de

funcionamiento. Cargue la bater(a a la temperamra ambiente recomendada entre 10 y 30 °C

(dnicamente el modelo BC-CSKA).

La camara no puede grabar imagenes.

• Compruebe la capacidad librc de la memoria interna o el "Memory Stick Duo" (pfiginas 26 y

27). Si estfin llenos, tome una de las siguientes medidas:

Borre las im_igenes innecesarias (pfigina 15).

Cambie el "Memory Stick Duo".

• No es posible grabar im@enes mientras se carga el flash.

• Cuando tome una imagen fija, ajuste el dial de modo en una posicidn distinta de _.

• Ajuste el dial de modo en _ cuando tome pelfculas.

Aparecen rayas verticales al tomar imagenes de sujetos muy brillantes.

• Esta ocurricndo el fendmeno de borrosidad de la imagen y aparccen en dsta rayas blancas,

negras, rojas, moradas o de otro tipo. No afecta a la imagen grabada.

La camara no puede reproducir imagenes.

• Pulse el botdn _ (reproduccidn) (pfigina 15).

• El hombre de la carpeta odel archivo ha sido modificado en el ordenador.

• Si se ha procesado un archivo de iumgen con un ordenador o si se ha grabado el archivo de

iumgen con un modelo distinto al de la cMnara, Sony no garantiza la reproducci6n en esta

cl{ulara.

• La cfimara estfi en el modo USB. Elimine la conexi6n USB.

Precauciones

No utilice/almacene la c_mara en

los siguientes lugares

• En lugares extrema&unente cahnosos frfos o

hdmedos

estacionado bajo el sol, es posible que el cuerpo

de la cfimara se delorme, lo que podrfa provocar

Esto podrfa ocasionar un lallo de

ffmcionamiento en la cfimara que, en algunos

Transporte

No se siente con la c(unara el1 el bolsillo posterior

de los pantalones o de una falda, ya que podrfa

causar un lallo de fimcionamiento o dafios ell dsta.

Acerca de la bateria

• No manipule bruscamente, desmonte ni

modifique la baterfa, ni la someta a golpes o

impactos como, por ejemplo, martillazos, cafdas

o pisadas.

• No utilice baterfas dafiadas o que presenten

delormaciones.

Acerca de la limpieza

limpieza para pantallas LCD (se vende pnr separado)

para eliminar huellas dactilares, ixtlvn, etc.

suave ligeramente humedecido con agua y, a

dafiar el acabado o la caja:

• No exponga la c&nara a productos quhnicos

tales como dih/yente, bencina, alcohol, patios

desechables, repelente de insectos, bronceador

con filtro solar, insecticida, etc.

• No toque la cfimara con las sustancias anteriores

en la mano.

• No deje la cfimara el1contacto con objetos de

goma o vinilo durante un tiempo prolongado.

Acerca de la temperatura de

funcionamiento

La cfimara ha sido disefiada para utilizarse con

temperamras de entre 0 °C y 40 °C

No se recomienda tomar imfigenes en h/gares

extremadamente frfos o calurosos que excedan

este rango.

Acerca de la condensacidn de

humedad

Si se trashtda ht cfilnara directamente de un lugar

fifo a uno cfilido, es posible que se condense

humedad en el interior o el exterior de la cfimara.

Esta condensacidn de humedad podrfa ocasionar

un lallo de funcionamiento en la cfimara.

Si se produce condensacidn de humedad

Apague la cfimara y espere una hora

aproximadanlente basra que la humedad se

evapore. Tenga en cuenta que si intenta tomar

imfigenes cuando athl quede humedad en el

interior del objetivo, no podrfi grabar imfigenes

claras.

Acerca de la bater(a interna

recargable de reserva

Esta cSmara tiene una baterfa interna recargable

para mantener la fecha y la hora, asf como otros

ajustes independientemente de si la alimentacidn

estfi conectada o desconectada.

Esta baterfa recargable se carga continuamente

siempre que estfi utilizando la cfimara. Sin

embargo, si utiliza la cfimara solamente durante

perfodos cortos, 4sta se descargarfi graduahnente,

y si no la utiliza el1 absoluto durante un rues, se

descargarfi cnmpletamente. En este caso,

asegOrese de cargar la baterfa recargable antes de

utilizar la cfimara.
