Notes on using the camera

Changing the language setting

The screen hmguage setting, press the MENU button, then select

_,_ (Settings) -....*-?T (Main Settings) -....+[Language Setting].

Internal memory and memory card back up

Do not turn off Ihe camera, re'move the baltc'ry pack, or remove, the memory

card while the access lamp is lit. Otherwise, the internal memory data or the

memory card may be damaged. Be sure to make a backup copy to protect your

data.

Functions built into this camera

• This manual describes the fuuctions of GPS-compatible/incompatible

devices, TransfcrJet-compatiblc/iucompatible devices, 1080 60J-compatible

devices and 1080 50i-compatible devices.

To determine whether your camera supports the GPS function, check the

model name of your camera.

GPS-compatible: DSC-HX5V

GPS-incompatible: DSC-HX5

To check if your camera supports the TransfcrJet function, and whether it

is a 1080 60i-compatible device or 1080 50J-compatible device, check for

the following marks on the bottom of the camera.

TransferJet-compatible device: a7 (TranslErJet)

1080 60i-compatible device: 60i

1080 50i-compatible device: 50i

• In an airplane, make sure to turn off the camera following cabin

auuouncellrlents.

On GPS-compatible devices (DSC-HX5V only)

• Use GPS in accordance with regulations of countries and regions v_here you

use it.

• The direction or location information will be recorded to your camera in the

default setting. If you do not record the direction or location information, set

[GPS setting] to [Off].

On database files

When you insert a memory card without a database file into the camera and

turn on the power, part of the memory card capacity is used to automatically

create a database file. It may take some time until you can perform the next

operation.

Notes on recording/playback

• When you use a memory card xx_iththis camera for the first time, it is

recommended to format the card using the camera for stable performance of

the memory card before shooting.

Note that formatting permanently erases all data on the memory card, and is

unrecoverable. Save precious data on a computer, etc.

• If you repeatedly record/delete images, fragmentation of data may occur on

the memory card. Movies may not be able to be saved or recorded. In such a

case, save your images to a PC or other storage location, then [Format].

• Before you start recording, make a trial recording to make sure that the

camera is working correctly.

• The camera is neither dust-proof, nor splash-proof, nor water-proof. Read

"Precautions" (page 26) before operating the camera.

• Avoid exposing the camera to water. If water enters inside the camera, a

malfunction ))lay occur. In some cases, the camera cannot be repaired.

• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other bright light. It may cause the

malfunction of the camera.

• Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves or

emits radiation. Otherwise, the camera may not properly record or play back

images.

• Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations may cause malfunctions.

• If moisture condensation occurs, remove it before using the camera.

• Do not shake or strike the camera. It may cause a malfunction and you may

not be able to record images. Furthermore, the recording media may become

unusable or image data may be damaged.

• Clean the flash surface before use. The heat of flash emission may cause dirt

on the flash surface to become discolored or to stick to the flash surface,

resulting in insufficient light emission.

Notes on the LCD screen and lens

• The LCD screen is manufactured using extremely high-precision technology

st) over 99.99% of the pixels are operational for effcctive use. However,

some tiny black and/or bright dots (white, red, blue or green) may appear on

the LCD screen. These dots arc a nomml result of the manufacturing process,

and do not affect the recording.

• When the battery level becomes low, the lens might stop moving. Insert a

charged battery pack and turn on the camera again.

On camera's temperature

Your camera and battery may get warm due to continuous use, but it is not a

malfunction.

On the overheat protection

Depending on the camera and battery temperature, you may be unable to

record movies or the power may turn off automatically to protect the camera.

A message will be displayed on the LCD screen before the power turns off or

you can no longer rccord movies.

On image data compatibility

• The camera conforms vdth DCF (Design rule for Camera File system)

universal standard established by JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information

Technology Industries Association).

• Sony does not guarantee that the camera will play back images recorded or

edited with other equipment, or that other equipment will play back images

recorded with the camera.

Notes when playing movies on other devices

• This camera uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 High Profile li_r AVCHD format

recording. Movies recorded in AVCHD format with this camera cannot be

played by the following devices.

Other devices compatible with AVCHD format that does not support High

Profile

Devices incompatible with the AVCHD format

• This camera also uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Main Profile lk)r MP4 format

recording. For this reason, movies rccorded in MP4 format with this camera

cannot be played on devices other than those that support MPEG-4 AVC/

H.264.

• Discs recorded with HD image quality (high definition) can be played back

only on AVCHD lk)rmat-compatible devices. DVD-based players or

recorders cannot play back HD image quality discs, as they are incompatible GB?

with the AVCHD t'ormal. Also, DVD-bascd players or recorders may l'ail to

eject HD image quality discs.

Warning on copyright

Television programs, fihns, videotapes, and other materials may be

copyrighted. Unauthorized recording of such materials may be contrary to the

provisions of the copyright laws.

No compensation for damaged content or recording failure

Sony cannot compensate for t'ailure to record or loss or damage of recorded

content due to a malfunction of the camera or recording media, etc.

Inserting the battery pack/a memory card

until it clicks into place.

Ensure the notched

Check the direction of the battery,

is locked.

Memory cards that you can use

Thc following memory cards arc compatible with this camera: "Memory Stick

PRO Due" media, "Memory Stick PRO-HG Due" media, "Memory Stick

Duo" media, SD memory cards and SDHC memory cards. MultiMediaCard is

net compatible.

In this manual, "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media, "Memory Stick PRO-HG

Due;' media and "Memory Stick Due" media are collectively referred te as

"Memory Stick Due" media.

On "Memory Stick Duo" media

For recording movies, it is recommended that yeu use a

"Memory Stick Due" media of 1 GB er larger marked with:

To remove the memory card

Access lamp Make sure that the access hunp is not lit,

then push the memory card in once.

• Never remove the memory card/battery pack when the access lamp is lit. This may

cause damage to data in the memory card/internal memory.

When there is no memory card inserted

hnages are stercd in the camera's internal memory (approximately 45 MB).

To copy images from the internal memory to a memory card, insert the

memory card in the camera, then select MENU _ _ (Settings) _

(Memory Card Tool) _ [Copy].

To remove the battery pack

Battery eject lever Slide the ballcry eject lever. Be sure net

le drep the battery pack.

Checking the remaining battery charge

A remaining charge indicator appears on the LCD screen.

• It takes about one minute until the correct remaining charge indicator appears.

• The remaining charge indicator may not be correct under certain circumstances.

• When [Power Save] is set to [Stamina] or [Standard], if you do not operate the

camera running on a battery pack for a certain amount of time, the brightness level

on the LCD screen becomes dark, and then the camera automatically turns off to

prevent wearing down the battery pack (Auto Power off).

• To prevent terminal contamination, or short-circuiting with metallic objects, etc.,

always carry or store the battery in the supplied case.

Cleaning the LCD screen

Wipe the screen surface with an LCD cleaning kit (sold sepm'ately) to ren/nve

fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the lens

Wipe the lens with a snft cloth to remove fingerprints, dust, etc'.

Cleaning the camera surface

Clean the camera surface with a sol: clnth slightly nloistened with water, then wipe

tile surface with a dry cloth. To prevent damage tn the finish or casing:

Do not expose tile camera to chemical products such as thinner, benzine, alcohol,

disposable cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.

Do not touch the camera with any of tile above on your hand.

On operating temperatures

Your camera is designed for use cinder tile temperatures between 0 °C and 40 °C

(32 °F and 104 °F). Shooting in extremely cold or hot places that exceed this range

is nnt recomnleuded.

On the internal rechargeable backup battery

This camera has an internal rechargeahle battery lor maintaining the date and time

and other settings regardless of whether tile power is on or off.

This rechargeable battery is continually charged as hmg as ynn are using the camera.

However, if you use the camera lot only short periods, it discharges gradually, and if

you dn not use the camera at all lor about one mouth it becomes completely

discharged, lu this case, be sure to charge this rechargeable battery belore using the

camera.

However, even if this rechargeable hattery is nnt charged, you can still use tile

Cambio de los ajustes de idioma

En la pantalla de selecci(m dc idioma, pulse el bot(m MENU y, a continuaci6n,

Copia de seguridad de la memoria interna y de la tarjeta de

memoria

No apague la cfimara ni extraiga la baterfa ni la tarjeta de memoria cuando el

indicador de acceso est:_ iluminado, ya que, de 1o contrario, es posible que los

datos de la memoria intema o de la tarjeta de memoria se darien. Realice

ESsiempre una copia de seguridad de sus datos para protegerlos.

Aeerca de los archives de base de dates

Si inserta una tarjeta de memoria sin un archix, o de base de datos en la cfimara

y activa la alimentacidn, parte de la capacidad de la tarjeta de memoria se

utilizarfi automfiticamente para crear un archivo de base de datos. Es posible

que transcurran unos instantes antes de que pueda efectuar la siguiente

operaci6n.

Notas sobre la grabacion/reproduccibn

• Cuando utilicc por primcra vez una tarjcta de memoria con esta cfimara, se

recomienda que la formatee mediante la c_imara para obtener un rendimiento

estable de la tarjeta de memoria antes de la toma de imfigenes.

Tenga en cuenta que el formateo elimina de forma permanente todos los

datos de la tarjeta de memoria y son irrecuperables. Guarde los datos

valiosos en un ordenador, etc.

• Si se graban o eliminan imfigenes de forma repetida, podrfa producirse

fragmentacidn de datos en la tarjeta de memoria. Es posible que no pueda

guardar o grabar pelfculas. En tal caso, guarde las im_igenes en un ordenador

o en otra ubicacidn de ahnacenamiento y, a continuacidn, realice la Es

operacidn [Formatear]. 7

• Antes de comenzar a grabar, realice una grabacidn de prueba para asegurarse

de que la cfimara funciona correctameme.

• Esta cfimara no es resisteme al polvo, alas salpicaduras ni al agua. Lea

"Precauciones" (pfigina 25) antes de utilizar la cfimara.

• Tenga cuidado de no dcjar que la cfimara se moje. Si entra agua en la cfimara,

puede ocasionar un fallo de funcionamiento y, en algunos casos, no se podr_

mparar.

• No enlkNue la cfimara hacia el sol ni hacia otras luces intensas, ya que

podrfan producirse fallos de funcionamiento en dsta.

• No utilice la cfimara cerca de un lugar donde se generen ondas de radio

fuertes o se emita radiacidn. Es posible que la cfimara no grabe o reproduzca

las imfigenes debidamente.

• La utilizaci6n de la cfimara en lugares arenosos o polvorientos puede

ocasionar un fallo de funcionamiento.

• Si se condensa humedad, elimfnela antes de utilizar la cfimara.

• No agite ni golpee la cfimara. Ademfis de producirse un fallo de

funcionamiento y de no poder grabar imageries, es posible que el soporte de

grabaci6n quede inutilizable o que los datos de las imfigenes se darien.

• Limpie la superficie del flash antes de utilizarlo. El calor de la emisi6n del

flash puede hacer que la superficie del flash se ensucie, que se descolore o

incluso se puede adherir a ella, lo que ocasionarfa una emisidn de luz

insuficiente.

Acerca de la proteccion contra el sobrecalentamiento

En funcidn de la temperatura de ht cfimara y ht bateffa, es posible clue no pueda

grabar pelfculas o que la alimentacidn se desactive automfiticamente para

proteger la cfimara.

Antes de desactivarse la alimentacidn o de que no pueda continuar grabando

_ pelfculas, se mostrar_ un mensaje en la pantalla LCD.

Sobre la compatibilidad de datos de imdgenes

• La cfimara cumple con la norma universal DCF (Design rule for Camera File

system) definida por la JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information

• Sony no garantiza la reproduccidn en otros equipos de imfigenes grabadas

con su cfimara y la reproduccidn en la cfimara de imfigenes grabadas o

Acerca de la limpieza

Limpieza de la pantalla LCD

Limpie la superficie de la pantalla con un kit de limpieza para pantallas LCD (se

venden pot separado) para eliminar huellas dactilares, polvo, etc.

Cimpieza del objetivo

Limpie el objetivo con un patio suave para elimilmr huellas dactilares, polvo, etc'.

Cimpieza de la superficie de la camara

Limpie la superficie de la cfimara con un patio suave ligeramente humedecido con

agua y, a continuaci6n, pfisele un patio seco. Para evitar dafiar el acabado o la caja:

No exponga la cfimara a productos qufmicos tales como diluyente, bencina,

alcohol, patios desechables, repelente de insectos, bronceador con filtro solar,

Acerca de la temperatura de funcionamiento

Acerca de la baterfa interna recargable de reserva

La cfimara tiene una baterfa interna recargable pm'a mantener la fecha > la hora, asf

como otros ajustes independientemente de si la alimentacidn estfi conectada o

desconectada.

Esta baterfa recargable se carga contimmmente siempre que estfi utilizando la

cfimara. Sin embargo, si utiliza la cfimara solamente durante perfodos cortos, 6sta se

descargarfi graduahnente, y si no la utiliza en absoluto durante un rues, se descargarfi

completamente. En este caso, asegOrese de cargar la baterfa recargable antes de
