_Notes on using the camera

Internal memory and "Memory

Stick Duo" media back up

Do not turn off the camera, remox, e tile battery

pack, or remove the "Memory Stick Duo"

media while the access lamp is lit. Otherwise,

the internal memory data or "Memory Stick

Duo" media may be damaged. Be sure to make

a backup copy to protect your data.

On management files

When you insert a "Memory Stick Duo" media

without a management file into the camera and

turn oil the power, pan of the "Memory Stick

Duo" media capacity is used to automatically

create a management file. It may take some

time until you can perform the next operation.

Notes on recording/playback

• Before you start rccordiug, make a trial

recording to make sure that the camera is

working correctly.

• The camera is neither dust-proof, nor splash-

proof, nor water-proof. Read "Precautions"

(page 72) before operating the camera.

• Avoid exposing the camera to water. If water

enters inside the camera, a malfunction may

OCCllr. Ill SOllfle cases, the cal3rlera cannot be

repaircd.

• Do not aim the camera at the sun or other

bright light. It may cause the malfunction of

the camera.

• Do not use the camera near a location that

generates strong radio waves or emits

radiation. Otherwise, the camera may not

properly record or play back images.

• Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations

may cause malfunctions.

• If moisture condensation occurs, remove it

befk)rc using the camera (page 72).

• Do not shake or strike the camera. It may

cause a malfunction and you may not be able

to record images. Furthermore, the recording

media may become unusable or image data

may be damaged.

• Clean the flash surface before use. The heat

of flash emission may cause dirt oil the flash

surface to become discolored or to stick to

the flash surface, resulting in insufficient

light emission.

Notes on the LCD screen, the LCD

finder and lens

• Tile LCD scrcen is manufactured using

extremely high-precision technology so over

99.99c_ of the pixels are operational for

effective use. However, some tiny black and/

or bright dots (white, red, blue or green) may

appear on the LCD screen. These dots arc a

normal result of the manufacturiug process,

and do not affect the recording.

• When the battery level becomes low, the lens

might stop moving. Inserl a charged battery

pack and turn oil the camera again.

• Do not hold the camera by taking hold of the

LCD screen.

On camera's temperature

Your camera and battery may get v<trm due to

continuous use, but it is not a malfunction.

On the overheat protection

Dependiug on the camcra and battery

temperature, you may be unable to record

movies or the power may turn off"

automatically to protect the camera.

A message will be displayed on the LCD

screen before the power turns off or you can

no longer record movies.

On image data compatibility

• The camera conforms with DCF (Dcsign rule

for Camera File system) universal standard

established by JEITA (Japan Electronics and

Information Technology Industries

Association).

• Sony does not guarantee that the camera will

play back images rccorded or edited with

other equipment, or that other equipment will

play back images recorded with the camera.

If you cannot record/play back

images, perform [Initialize]

If you repeat rccording/deletiug images for a

long time, fragmentation of data occurs on the

media, hnages cannot be saved or recorded. In

such a case, save your images on some type of

external media first, and then perform

{Initialize] in '(][ (Main Settings) (page 63).

Note when playing movies on

other devices

This camera utilizes MPEG-4 AVC/H.264

Main Profile to record movies. Therefore,

movies recorded using this camera cannot be

played on devices that do not support MPEG-4

AVC/H.264.

Warning on copyright

Telc'_,ision programs, fihns, videotapes, aim

other materials may be copyrighted.

Unauthorized recording of such materials may

be contrary to the provisions of the copyright

laws.

No compensation for damaged

content or recording failure

Sony cannot compensate for failure to record

or loss or damage of recorded content due to a

malfunction of the camera or recording media,

etc.

lit. This may cause damage to data in the

"Memory Stick Duo" media/internal

• It takes about one minute until the correct

remaining charge indicator appears.

• The remaining charge indicator may not be

correct under ceilain circumstances.

• Battery capacity decreases over time and

through repeated use. When the operating

time per charge decreases markedly, the

battery pack needs to be replaced. Purchase a

new battery pack.

• ff the camera is running on and you do not

operate the camera for about three minutes,

the camera turns off automatically (Auto

power-off function).

Shooting panoramic images

Shoots multiple images and allows you to create a panoramic image fiom composed

images while you pan the camera. You can create both up and down, and right and left

panoramic images.

You can copy images to your Macintosh computer. However, "PMB" is not compatible.

When images are exported to "Memory Stick Duo" media, view them in [Folder View 1.

Cannot insert the battery pack.

• Insert the battery pack correctly by pushing the battery eject lever (page 15).

Cannot turn on the camera.

• After inserting the battery pack into the camera, it may take a few moments for the camera to

power up.

• Insert the battery pack correctly (page 15).

• The battery pack is discharged. Insert a charged battery pack (page 13).

• The battery pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

• Use a recommended battery pack.

The power turns off suddenly.

• Depending on the camera and battery temperature, the power may turn off automatically to

protect the camera. In this case, a message is displayed on the LCD screen before the power

turns off.

• If you do not operate the camera for about three minutes while the power is on, the camera

turns off automatically to prevent wearing down the battery pack. Turn on the camera again

(page 18).

• The battery pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

remaining charge indicator is incorrect.

• The battery charge ,,willquickly get used up and the actual remaining battery charge vdll bc

lower than the indicator in the following cases:

When you use the camera in an extremely hot or cold location.

When you use the flash and zoom frequently.

When you repeatedly turn the power on and off.

When you set the screen brighmess higher using DISP (screen display) settings.

• A discrepancy arose between the remaining charge indicator and the actual rcmainiug battery

charge. Fully discharge the battery pack once, then charge it to correct the indication.

• The battery pack is discharged. Insert the charged battery pack (page 13).

• The battery pack is dead. Replace it with a new one.

Cannot charge the battery pack while it is inside the camera.

• You cannot charge the battery pack using the AC Adaptor (sohl separately). Use the battery

charger (supplied) to charge the battery.

The CHARGE lamp flashes while charging the battery.

• Remove and reinsert the battery pack, making sure it is installed correctly.

• The temperature may be inappropriate for charging. Try charging the battery pack again

within the proper charging temperature range (10 °C to 30 °C (50 °F to 86 °F)).

Cannot record images.

• Check the free capacity of the internal memory or "Memory Stick Duo" mc'dia (pages 32, 45).

If it is full, do one of the fl)llowiug:

Delete unnecessary images (page 48).

Change the "Memory Stick Duo" media.

• You cannot record images while charging the flash.

• When shooting a still image, set the mode dial to other than 1_ (Movie Mode).

• Set the mode dial to _ (Movie Mode) when shooting movies.

• You can record movies with an image size of [1440x 1080(Fine)l, [1440x 1080(Standard)] or

[1280x720] on "Memory Stick PRO Duo" media. When using recording media other than

"Memory Stick PRO Duo" media, set the movie image size to [VGA].

• The camera is in Smile Shutter demonstration mode. Set [Demo Mode] to [Off].

Cannot create panoramic images.

• Pan the camera as the guidance bar with a constant ,,.elocity. You cannot create panoramic

images in the following situations:

Pan the camera too fast or too slow.

Pan the camera in the difl'crent direction from the setting.

• If there is too much camera shake during panning, the shooting stops. Hold the camera firmly.

Cannot play back images.

• Press the [_ (Playback) button (page 21).

• The l'older/l'ile name has been changed on your computer.

• No guaranlees are made for playing back, on this camera, files containing images which were

processed on a compuler or images which were shol using other cameras.

• The camera is in USB mode. Delele the USB conneclion.

• You may not be able to play back some images s(ored on the "Memory Stick Duo" media shot

using other cameras. Play such images in Folder View (page 47).

• This is caused by copying images on your compuler to the "Memory Stick Duo" media

without using the "PMB." Play such images in Folder View (page 47).

Precautions

Do not use/store the camera in the

following places

• In an extremely hot, cold or humid place

In places such as in a car parked in the sun,

the camera body may become deformed and

this may cause a malfunction.

• Under direct sunlight or near a heater

The camera body may become discolored or

delimned, and this may cause a malfunction.

• In a location subject to rocking vibration

• Near strong magnetic place

• In sandy or dusty places

Be carelul not to let sand or dust get into the

camera. This may cause the camera to

malfunction, and in some cases this

malfunction cannot be repaired.

On cleaning

Cleaning the LCD screen

Wipe the screen surface with an LCD cleaning

kit (sold separately) to remove fingerprints,

dust, etc.

Cleaning the lens

Wipe the lens with :t soft cloth to remove

fingerprints, dust, etc.

Cleaning the camera surface

Clean the camera surface with a soft cloth

slightly moistened with water, then wipe the

surface with a dry cloth. To prevent damage to

the finish or casing:

Do not expose the camera to chemical

products such as thinner, benzine, alcohol,

disposable cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen

or insecticide.

Do not touch the camera with any of the

above on your hand.

Do not leave the camera in contact with

rubber or vinyl for a long time.

On operating temperatures

Your camera is designed for use under the

temperatures between 0 °C and 40 °C (32 °F

and 104 °F). Shooting in extremely cold or hot

places that exceed this range is not

recolllmended.

On moisture condensation

If the camera is brought directly from a cold to

a warllrl location, moisture may condense

inside or outside the camera. This moisture

condensation may cause a malfunction of the

canlera.

If moisture condensation occurs

Turn off the camera and wait about an hour for

the moisture to evaporate. Note that if you

attempt to shoot with moisturc rcmaiuiug

inside the lens, you will be unable to record

clear images.

On the internal rechargeable

backup battery

This camera has an internal rechargeable

battery for maintaining the date and time and

other settings regardless of whether the power

is OU Or off.

This rcchargeable battery is continually

charged as long as you are using the camera.

However, if you use the camera for only short

periods, it discharges gradually, and if you do

not use the camera at all for about one month it

becomes completely discharged. In this case,

be sure to charge this rechargeable battery

before using the camera.

However, even if this rechargeable battery is

not charged, you can still use the camera, but

the date and time will not be indicated.

Cargador de bateria

Aunque la l_hnpar_, CHARGE no estd encendi&,,

el cargador de bater;a no estarzl desconectado de la

fuente de alimentacidn de ca en tanto que el

mismo estd conectado a la toma de corriente de la

pared. Si ocurre algdn problema mientras utiliza

el cargador de baterfm interrumpa inmediatamente

la alimentacidn desconectando la clavija tie la

Copia de seguridad de la memoria

interna y del "Memory Stick Duo"

No apague la c_imara ni extraiga la baterfa ni el

"Memory Stick Duo" con la l_hnpara de acceso

encendida, ya que, de 1ocontrario, es posible

que los datos de la memoria intema o del

"Memory Stick Duo" se destruyan. Realice

siempre una copia de seguridad de sus datos

para protegerlos.

Acerca de los archivos de

administracibn

Si inserta un "Memory Stick Duo" sin un

archivo de administracidn en la cfimara y

activa la alimentaci6n, parte de la capacidad

del "Memory Stick Duo" se utilizar_i

autom_iticamente para crear un archivo de

administraci6n. Es posible que transcurran

unos instantes antes de que pueda ef)ctuar la

siguiente operacidn.

Notas sobre la grabacibn/

reproduccibn

• Antes de comenzar a grabar, rcalice una

grabaci6n de prueba para asegurarse de que

la c:hnara funciona correctanlente.

• Esta cfimara no es resistente al polvo, alas

salpicaduras ni al agua. Lea "Precauciones"

(p_igina 72) antes de utilizar la cfimara.

• Tenga cuidado de no dcjar que la c_hnara se

moje. Si entra agua en la c_hnara, puede

ocasionar un fallo de funcionamiento y, en

algunos casos, no se podrl7 reparar.

• No enfbque la cfimara hacia el sol ni hacia

otras luces intensas, ya que podrfan

producirse fallos de funcionamiento en dsta.

• No utilice la c_hnara cerca de un lugar donde

se generen ondas de radio fuertes o se emita

radiacidn. Es posible que la clhnara no grabe

o rcproduzca las imilgenes debidamente.

• La utilizacidn de la cfimara en lugares

arenosos o polvorientos puede ocasionar 1111

fallo de funcionamiento.

• Si se condensa humedad, elimfnela antes de

utilizar la c_hnara (p@ina 72).

• No agite ni golpee la c_hnara. Adem_is de

producirse un fallo de funcionamiento y de

no poder grabar im_igenes, es posible que el

soporte de grabaci6n quede inutilizable o que

los datos de las imfigenes se darien.

• Limpie la superficie del flash antes de

utilizarlo. El calor de la emisidn del flash

puede hacer que la superficie del flash se

ensucie, que se descolore o incluso se puede

adherir a ella, 1o que ocasionarfa una emisidn

de luz insuficiente.

Notas sobre la pantalla LCD, el

visor LCD y el objetivo

• La pantalla LCD est_i fabricada mediante

tecnologfa de muy alta precisi6n, de forma

que m_is del 99,99c_ de los p/xeles son

operatiw)s para uso efcctNo. No obstante, es

posible que se observen constantemente en la

pantalla LCD pequefios puntos negros yk)

brillantes (blancos, rojos, azules o verdes).

Estos puntos son nommles en el proceso de

fabricacidn y no afcctan en modo alguno a la

grabaci6n.

• Cuando baje el nivel de la baterfa, puede que

el objetivo dcje de moverse. Inserte una

baterfa cargada y vuelva a encender la

C_lilara.

• No sujete la c_hnara por la parte de la

pantalla LCD.

Acerca de la temperatura de la

c_mara

Es posible quc la c_hnara y la baterfa se

calienten durante el uso continuado, pero no se

trata de ningfin fallo de funcionamiento.

Acerca de la proteccibn contra el

sobrecalentamiento

En funci6n de la tcmperatura dc la c_hnara y la

baterfa, es posible que no pueda grabar

pelfculas o que la alimentaci6n se desactive

autom_iticamente para proteger la cfimara.

Antes de desactivarse la alimentaci6n o de que

no pueda continuar grabando pelfculas, se

mostrarfi un mensaje en la pantalla LCD.

Sobre la compatibilidad de datos

de imdgenes

• La c:hn:tra cumplc con la norm:t uni',.ersal

DCF (Design rule for Camera File system)

definida pot la JEITA (Japan Electronics and

Inlk>rm:ttiou Technology Industries

Association).

• Sony no garantiza la reproducci6n en otros

equipos de im:igenes grabadas con su c_hnara

y la reproducci6n en la c_hnara de im:igenes

grabadas o editadas con otros equipos.

Si no puede grabar o reproducir

imdgenes, ejecute [Inicializar]

Si repite las operaciones de grabaci6n o

eliminaci6u de im:_genes duraute un periodo

de tiempo prolongado, se producir:i la

fragmentaci6n de datos en el soporte. No se

pueden gu:trdar o grabar im:igenes. En tal

caso, gu,rde primero las im:igenes en algOn

tipo de soporte externo y, a continuaci6n,

cjecute [Iuicializar] en _ (Ajustes

priucipales) (pfigina 63).

AI reproducir peliculas en otros

dispositivos

Esta c:imara utiliza Main Profile MPEG-4

AVC/H.2(_4 para grabar pelfculas. Por lo tanto,

las pelfculas grabadas con esta c:hnara no se

podr:in reproducir en dispositivos no

compatibles con MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.

Solucion de problemas

Si tiene algfin problema con la c_imara, intente primero las siguientes soluciones.

O Compruebelos elementos siguientes y ¢onsulte la "Guia pr_¢tica de Cyber-

shot" (PDF).

Si aparece un c6digo como, por ejemplo, "C/E:INI-I:ININ" en la pantalla,

consulte la "Gu/a pr_ictica de Cyber-shot".

O Extraiga la bateria, espere aproximadamente un minuto, vuelva a insertarla y,

a continuaci6n, conecte la alimentaci6n.

O Pulse el bot6n RESET con un objeto de punta fina y encienda la ¢_mara

(p_gina 10).

Si realiza la operaci6n anterior, los ajustes de fecha y hora de borrar_in.

O Consulte con el distribuidor de Sony o con la ofi¢ina de servi¢io local

autorizada de Sony.

AI reparar c&naras que incluyen memofia interna o la funci6n de archivos de mdsica, se

deberdn comprobar los datos de la c_imara ante la m_is minima necesidad para verificar y

mejorar los sfntomas de los fallos de funcionamiento. Sony no copiard ni guardar_i

ninguno de dichos datos.

No es posible insertar la bateria.

• Presione la palanca de expulsi6n de la baterfa para insertar la baterfa correctamente

(p_igina 13).

No es posible encender la camara.

• Despuds de instalar ht baterfa en la c_imara, la cfimara puede tardar cierto tiempo en

encenderse.

• lnserte la baterfa correctamente (p_igina 13).

• La baterfa est_i descargada. Inserle una baterfa cargada (p_gina 11 ).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida Otil. Reemphlcela pot una nueva.

• Utilice una de las baterfas recomendadas.

La alimentacibn se desconecta de repente.

• En funcidn de la tcmperatura de la czlmara y la baterfa, es posible que la alimcntaci6n sc

desactive autom;iticamente para proteger la c_hnara. En tal caso, se mostrar_1 un mensaje en la

pantalla LCD antes de que se desactive la alimentaci6n.

• Si no utiliza la c_hnara durante unos tres minuto mientras estfi conectada la alimentacidn, la

c_hnara se apaga autom_iticamente para evitar que la baterfa se descargue. Encienda la c_hnara

de nuevo (p_igina 16).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida 6til. Reempl_icela pot una nueva.

El indicador de bateria restante es incorrecto.

• La carga de la batcrfa se agotar_1 r_ipidamentc y la carga rcstante real serfi inferior a la indicada

mediante el indicador en los siguientes casos:

Cuando se utilice la c_imara en un lugar muy c_ilido o muy frfo.

Si utiliza el flash y el zoom con mucha frecuencia.

Cuando encienda y apague la c_imara de forma repetida.

Si se aumenta el brillo de la pantalla mediante los ajustes de DISP (visualizaci6n en

pantalla).

• La carga de baterfa restante que se indica difiere de la actual. Descargue la baterfa totahnente

y vuelva a cargarla para corregir la indicacidn.

• La baterfa estfi descargada. Inserte la baterfa cargada (p_igina 11 ).

• La baterfa ha llegado al final de su vida dtil. Reempl_icela por una nueva.

No es posible cargar la bateria mientras se encuentra en la camara.

• No es posible cargar la baterfa mediantc cl adaptador de alimentaci6n de ca (sc ",.cndc por

separado). Utilice el cargador de baterfa (suministrado) para cargar la baterfa.

El indicador CHARGE parpadea durante la carga de la bateria.

• Extraiga y "_.uelva a inscrtar la baterfa, asegur_indose de quc est_i correctamente instalada.

• Es posible que la temperatura no sea adecuada para llevar a cabo la carga. Intente cargar de

nuevo la baterfa dentro del rango de temperatura de carga adecuado (entre 10 °C y 30 °C)

La camara no puede grabar imagenes.

• Compruebe la capacidad libre de la memoria intema o el "Mcmor, Stick Duo" (p_iginas 31,

45). Si est_in llenos, tome una de las siguientes medidas:

Borre las im@enes innecesarias (pfigina 48).

Cambie el "Memory Stick Duo".

• No es posible grabar im_igenes mientras se carga el flash.

• Cuando tome una imagen fija, ajuste el dial de modo en una posicidn distinta de _ (Modo

pel/cula).

• Ajuste el dial de modo en _ (Modo pelfcula) cuando tome pelfculas.

• Puede grabar pelfculas con un tamafio de imagen de [1 440xl 080(Fina)],

[1 440xl 080(Est_indar)] o [1 280x720] en un "Memory Stick PRO Duo". Si utiliza un

sop{me de grabacidn distinto de un "Memo U Stick PRO Duo", ajuste el tamafio de las

imfigenes de la pelfcula en [VGA].

• La c_hnara se encuentra en el modo de demostracidn de la funci6n Captador de sonrisas.

Ajuste [Modo demostraci6n] en [Desactivar].

No es posible crear im_lgenes panor_lmicas.

• Realicc panorSmicas con la cfimara tal y como indica la barra de direccidn a una '_,clocidad

constante. No es posible crcar imfigenes panorfimicas en las siguientes situaciones:

Realiza panor_hnicas con la cfimara demasiado rfipido o demasiado lento.

Realiza panor_hnicas con la cfimara en una direccidn distinta a la del ajuste.

• Si mueve demasiado la cfimara durante la realizacidn de la panor_hnica, la toma de im_igenes

se detiene. Sujete la c_imara con firmeza.

La c_lmara no puede reproducir im_lgenes.

• Pulse el botdn _i (Reproduccidn) (p_1gina 19).

• El hombre de la carpeta o del archivo ha sido modificado en el ordenador.

• En esta c_imara no se garantiza la rcproduccidn de archivos que contienen im_1genes

procesadas en un ordenador o im_igenes tomadas mediante otras c_hnaras.

• La c_hnara se encuentra en el modo USB. Elimine la conexidn USB.

• Es posible que no pueda repmducir algunas im@enes ahnacenadas en el "Memory Stick

Duo" y tomadas con otras cfimaras. Reproduzca dichas imfigenes en Ver carpetas (pfigina 47).

• Esto se produce al copiar im@enes del ordenador al "Memory Stick Duo" sin utilizar el

software "PMB". Reproduzca dichas im_igenes en Ver carpetas (p_1gina 47).

No utilice/almacene la c_mara en

En lugares tales como ell un automdvil

estacionado bajo el sol, es posible que el

cuerpo de la c_hnara se deR)rme, 1o que

podrfa provocar un fall() de funcionamiento.

• Bajo la luz solar directa o cerca de una estufa

El cuerpo de la cfimara puede decolorarse o

delklrmarse y esto puede ocasionar un fallo

de funcionamiento.

• En un lugar expuesto a vibracidn basculante

• Cerca de un lugar magndtico intenso

• En lugares arenosos o polvorientos

Procure que 110 entre arena o polvo ell la

c_hnara. Esto podrfa ocasionar un fallo de

funcionamiento en la c_hnara que, en algunos

casos, no podrfa repararse.

Acerca de la limpieza

Limpieza de la pantalla LCD

Limpie la superficie de la pantalla con un kit

de limpieza para pantallas LCD (se vende por

separado) para eliminar huellas dactilares,

polvo, etc.

Limpieza del objetivo

Limpie el objcti_,o con un patio sua_,e para

eliminar huellas dactilares, polvo, etc.

Limpieza de la superficie de la camara

Limpie la superficie de la c_imara con un patio

suave ligeramente humedecido con agua y, a

continuacidn, pfisele un patio seco. Para evitar

datiar el acabado o la caja:

No exponga la cfimara a productos qufinicos

tales como diluyente, bencina, alcohol,

patios desechables, repelente de insectos,

bronceador con filtro solar, insecticida, etc.

No toque la c:hnara con las sustancias

anteriores ell la mano.

No dcje la cfimara en contacto con objetos

de goma o vinilo durante un tiempo

pa!longado.

Acerca de la temperatura de

funcionamiento

La c_hnara ha sido disetiada para utilizarse con

temperaturas de entre 0 _'C y 40 °C No sc

recomienda tomar im_igenes en lugares

extrenladalnente frfos o calurosos que excedan

este rango.

Acerca de la condensacibn de

humedad

Si se traslada la c_imara directamente de un

lugar frfo a uno c_Hido, es posible que se

condense humedad en el interior o el exterior

de la c_hnara. Esta condensaci6n de humedad

podrfa ocasionar un fallo de funcionamiento

en la cfimara.

Si se produce condensacion de humedad

Apague la c_hnara y espere una hora

aproximadamente hasta que la humedad se

evapore. Tenga en euenta que si intenta tomar

im_igenes cuando a6n quede humedad en el

interior del objetivo, no podr_i grabar imfigenes

claras.

Acerca de la bateHa interna

recargable de reserva

La cfimara tienc una batcrfa intema recargablc

para mantener la fccha y la hora, asf como

otros ajustes independiememente de si la

alimentacidn estfi conectada o desconectada.

Esta bater/a recargable se carga continuamente

siempre que est_i utilizando la cfimara. Sin

embargo, si utiliza la cfimara solamente

durante perfodos cortos, dsta se descargarfi

graduahnente, y si no la utiliza en absoluto

durante un rues, se descargarfi completamente.

En este caso, aseg6rese de cargar la baterfa

recargable antes de utilizar la cfimara.

Sin embargo, aunque la baterfa rccargable no

estd cargada, podr_i utilizar la cfimara siempre

y cuando no grabe la fecha y la hora.
