SPARK ARRESTOR NOTE

NOTE: For users on U.S. Forest Land and in the states of California,

Maine, Oregon and Washington. All U.S. Forest Land and the state of

California (Public Resources Codes 4442 and 4443), Oregon and

Washington require, by law that certain internal combustion engines

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING

I_ ARNING:Whenusingtheunit, you must follow the I

safety rules. Please read these instructions before operating

the unit in order to ensurethe safety of the operator and any

bystanders. Please keep these instructions for later use.

• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and

proper use of the unit.

• Do not operate this unit when tired, ill or under the influence of

alcohol, drugs or medication.

• Children must not operate the unit. Teens must be accompanied

and guided by an adult.

• Inspect the unit before use. Replace damaged parts. Check for

fuel leaks. Make sure all fasteners are in place and secure.

Replace cutting attachment parts that are cracked, chipped or

damaged in any way.

• Use only Hassle Free TM XTRA QUIET Spiral Line. Never use

metal-reinforced line, wire, chain or rope. These can break off

and become dangerous projectiles.

• Be aware of risk of injury to the head, hands and feet.

• Clear the area to be cut before each use. Remove rocks, broken

glass, nails, wire, string and other objects which may be thrown

or become entangled in the cutting attachment. Clear the area of

children, bystanders and pets; keep them outside a 50-foot

(15 m) radius, at a minimum. Even then, they are still at risk from

thrown objects. Encourage bystanders to wear eye protection. If

you are approached, stop the unit immediately.

• Squeeze the throttle control and check that it returns

automatically to the idle position. Make all adjustments or repairs

before using the unit.

FUEL SAFETY WARNINGS

_1_ I WARNING: Gasoline is highly flammable and its vapors I

can explode if ignited. Take the following precautions:

• Store fuel only in containers specifically designed and approved

for the storage of such materials.

• Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the fuel

tank. Never remove the fuel tank cap or add fuel when the engine is

hot. Never operate the unit without the fuel cap securely in place.

• Loosen the fuel tank cap slowly to relieve any pressure in the tank.

• Mix and add fuel in a clean, well-ventilated outdoor area where

there are no sparks or flames. Remove the fuel cap slowly, and

only after the engine stops. Do not smoke while fueling or mixing

fuel. Wipe up any spilled fuel from the unit immediately.

• Avoid creating a source of ignition for spilled fuel. Do not start the

engine until fuel vapors dissipate.

• Move the unit at least 30 feet (9.1 m) from the fueling source and site

before starting the engine. Do not smoke. Keep sparks and open

flames away from the area while adding fuel or operating the unit.

WHILE OPERATING

• Never start or run the unit inside a closed room or building.

Breathing exhaust fumes can be fatal. Operate this unit only in a

well-ventilated outdoor area.

• Wear safety glasses or goggles that meet ANSI Z87.1-1989 standards

and are marked as such. Wear ear/hearing protection when operating

this unit. Wear a face or dust mask ifthe operation is dusty.

• Wear heavy long pants, boots, gloves and a long sleeve shirt. Do

not wear loose clothing, jewelry, short pants, sandals or go

barefoot. Secure hair above shoulder level.

• The cutting attachment shield must always be in place while

operating the unit. Do not operate unit without both trimming lines

extended, and the proper line installed. Do not extend the

trimming line beyond the length of the shield.

• This unit has a clutch. The cutting attachment remains stationary

when the engine is idling. If it does not, take the unit to a Sears or

other qualified service dealer for an adjustment.

• Adjust the D-handle to your size in order to provide the best grip.

• Be sure the cutting attachment is not in contact with anything

before starting the unit.

• Use the unit only in daylight or good artificial light.

• Avoid accidental starting. Be in the starting position whenever

pulling the starter rope. The operator and unit must be in a stable

position while starting. Refer to Starting/Stopping Instructions.

• Use the right tool. Only use this tool for its intended purpose.

• Always hold the unit with both hands when operating. Keep a firm

grip on both handles or grips.

• Keep hands, face, and feet away from all moving parts. Do not

touch or try to stop the cutting attachment when it rotates.

• Do not touch the engine, gear housing or muffler. These parts get

extremely hot from operation, even after the unit is turned off.

• Do not operate the engine faster than the speed needed to cut, trim

or edge. Do not run the engine at high speed when not cutting.

• Always stop the engine when cutting is delayed or when walking

from one cutting location to another.

• If you strike or become entangled with a foreign object, stop the engine

immediately and check for damage. Do not operate before repairing

damage. Do not operate the unit with loose or damaged parts.

• Turn the engine to off and disconnect the spark plug for

maintenance or repair.

• Use only replacement parts or accessories recommended for this

tool that are distributed by Sears or a Craftsman outlet. Use of

any replacement parts or accessories purchased elsewhere may

be hazardous, and will also void your warranty.

• Keep unit clean of vegetation and other materials. They may

become lodged between the cutting attachment and shield.

• To reduce fire hazard, replace a faulty muffler and spark arrestor.

Keep the engine and muffler free from grass, leaves, excessive

grease or carbon build up.

OTHER SAFETY WARNINGS

• Never store the unit with fuel in the tank, inside a building where

fumes may reach an open flame (pilot lights, etc.) or sparks

(switches, electrical motors, etc.).

• Allow the engine to cool before storing or transporting. Be sure to

secure the unit while transporting.

• Store the unit in a dry place, secured or at a height to prevent

unauthorized use or damage. Keep out of the reach of children.

• Never douse or squirt the unit with water or any other liquid. Keep

handles dry, clean and free from debris. Clean after each use, see

Cleaning and Storage instructions (p. 11).

• Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use them to

instruct other users. If you loan this unit to others, also loan them

these instructions.

This warranty applies for only 90 days from the purchase date if this product is ever used for commercial or rental purposes.

This warranty covers ONLY defects in material and workmanship. Sears will NOT pay for:

ADJUSTING THE D-HANDLE

1. Using aflathead or T-25 screwdriver,

loosen the 4 screws on the D-handle

enough to loosen it (Fig. 1).

2. Rotate the D-Handle to the upright

position on the front side of the

shaft housing (Fig. 1).

3. Hold the unit inthe operating position

(Fig.8). Ifnecessary, reposition the D-

handle to the location that provides

the best grip.

4. Tighten the 4 screws until the D-

handle is secure.

INSTALLING THE TRIMMER ATTACHMENT

Prior to use, make sure trimmer attachment is installed correctly.

Please refer to Operating the Convertible TM Coupler System for

proper installation.

NOTE: Remove red cap or hanger from lower shaft housing prior to

assembling to Convertible TM coupler

Today'sfuelsareoftenablendofgasolineandoxygenatessuchas

ethanol,methanol,orMTBE(ether),Alcohol-blendedfuelabsorbs

water.Aslittleas1%waterinthefuelcanmakefuelandoil

separate,Itformsacidswhenstored,Whenusingalcohol-blended

fuel,usefreshfuel(lessthan60daysold).

UsingBlendedFuels

Ifyouchoosetouseablendedfuel,oritsuseisunavoidable,follow

recommendedprecautions:

• Always use the fresh fuel mix explained in your operator's manual

• Always agitate the fuel mix before fueling the unit

• Drain the tank and run the engine dry before storing the unit

Using Fuel Additives

The bottle of 2-cycle oil that came with your unit contains a fuel

additive which will help inhibit corrosion and minimize the formation of

gum deposits. It is recommended that you use our 2-cycle oil with this

unit. If unavailable, use a good 2-cycle oil de-signed for air-cooled

engines along with a fuel additive, such as STA-BIL_ Gas Stabilizer or

an equivalent, Add 0.8 oz, (23 ml,) of fuel additive per gallon of fuel

according to the instructions on the container. NEVER add fuel

additives directly to the unit's fuel tank,

I_llb CAUTION: For proper engine operation and maximum I

reliability, pay strict attention to the oil and fuel mixing

instructions on the 2-cycle oil container. Using improperly

mixed fuel can severely damage the engine,

INCREDI-PULL TM starting system, which significantly

reducesthe effort required to start the engine. Youmust pull

the starter rope out far enough to hear the engine attempt to

start. There is no need to pull the rope briskly-- there is no

harsh resistancewhen pulling. Be aware that this starting

method isvastly different from (and much easierthan) what

you may be used to.

-- IE.. The engine does not start, go back to step 3,

NOTE: If the unit is hot and fails to start within 3 pulls of the

starter rope, squeeze the throttle control and pull the

starter rope until the unit starts.

STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS

1, Release your hand from the throttle control. Allow the

engine to cool down by idling,

2, Press and hold On/Off Stop Control in the OFF (O) position

until engine comes to a complete stop (Fig. 2),

CAUTION: These attachments are to be snapped into

the primary hole only. Using the wrong hole could lead to

personal injury or damage to the unit.

The Convertible TM coupler system enables the use of these optional

attaachments.

REMOVING THE TRIMMER A'R'ACHMENT OR OTHER ATTACHMENT

I_1_ WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury and

damage to the unit, shut the unit off before removing or

installing all attachments.

1. Turn the knob

counterclockwise to

loosen (Fig. 7).

2. Press and hold the

release button (Fig. 5).

3. While firmly holding the

upper shaft housing, pull

the trimmer attachment or

other attachment straight

out of the Convertible TM

coupler (Fig. 6).

ATTACHMENT OR OTHER ATTACHMENT

release button is fully snapped into the primary hole (Fig. 12),

and that the knob (Fig. 13) is securely tightened.

3. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten (Fig. 7).

For decorative edging with the line head trimmer attachment or

other attachment, lock the release button of the attachment into the

90° hole (Fig. 7).

HOLDING THE TRIMMER

A IWARNING: Always wear eye, hearing, foot and body

protection to reduce the risk of injury when operating this unit.

Before operating the unit, stand in the operating position (Fig. 8).

Check for the following:

• The operator is wearing eye

protection and proper clothing

• With a slightly-bent right arm, the

operator's hand is holding the shaft grip

• The operator's left arm is slightly bent,

the left hand holding the D-handle

• The unit is at waist level

• The trimmer attachment is parallel to

the ground and easily contacts the

grass without the need to bend over

TIPS FOR BEST TRIMMING RESULTS

• Keep the trimmer attachment parallel

to the ground.

• Cut from leftto right whenever possible. Fig.8

Cutting to the right improves the unit's

cutting efficiency. Clippings are thrown away from the operator.

• Trim only when grass and weeds are dry.

• The life of your cutting line is dependent upon:

- Following the trimming tips

- What vegetation is being cut

- Where vegetation is being cut

DECORATIVE TRIMMING

Decorative trimming is accomplished by

removing all vegetation around trees,

posts, fences and more. Rotate the

whole unit so that the trimmer Fig.9

attachment is at a 30° angle to the ground (Fig. 9).

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

WARNING: To prevent serious injury, never perform

maintenance or repairs with unit running. Always service

and repair a cool unit. Disconnect the spark plug wire to

ensure that the unit cannot start.

Perform these required maintenance procedures at the frequency

stated in the table. These procedures should also be a part of any

seasonal tune-up.

NOTE: Some maintenance procedures may require special tools or

skills. If you are unsure about these procedures take your unit to

Sears or other qualified service dealer. Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME ®

for more information.

NOTE: Maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission

control devices and system may be performed by a Sears

or other qualified service dealer. Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME ®

for more information.

In order to assure peak performance of your engine, inspection of the

engine exhaust port may be necessary after 50 hours of operation. If

you notice lost RPM, poor performance or general lack of acceleration,

this service may be required. If you feel your engine is in need of this

inspection, refer service to a Sears or other qualified service dealer.

Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME ®for more information. DO NOT attempt to

perform this process yourself as engine damage may result from

contaminants involved in the cleaning process for the port.

LINE REPLACEMENT

for Hassle-Free TM Plus Cutting Head

Always use Craftsman Hassle-Free TMXTRA QUIET Spiral Line.

Choose the line size best suited for the job at hand. Red colored line

is designed for cutting grass and small weeds. Black colored line is

designed for cutting larger weeds and light brush,

NOTE: Before inserting new line into the holes in the cutting head,

identify the proper holes, Follow directions as shown on the

glide plate, Do Not attempt to remove the cutting head from

the unit when replacing line.

NOTE: Do not mix lines, Use 2 black or 2 red only,

1. Remove the old line and line glide plate from the cutting head,

2. Clean entire surface of cutting head,

3. Reinstall line glide plate (Fig. 10). Trimming

The glide plate is akeyed item Line

and will only fit one way. If it does

not go into the cutting head Insertion

smoothly, DO NOT force it. Holes

4. Insert both ends of your line

through the insertion holes in the

side of the cutting head (Fig. 10).

5. Push and/or pullthe line so that

the line issnug against the hub

and is fully extended through the

positioning tunnels (Fig. 11).

6. Correctly installed line will be

the same length on both sides

(Fig. 12).

NOTE: Make sure that when

installing new line, that the

line is as close to even as

possible. Any variation in

lengths may cause the unit

to vibrate excessively. If this

happens, stop the unit and

make sure the line is even.

7. Repeat steps 4 thru 6 to install

the second trimmer line.

8. Correctly installed, the four

lines will all be the same

length (Fig. 13).

Some line breakage will occur from:

• Entanglement with foreign matter

• Normal line fatigue

• Attempting to cut thick, stalky

weeds

Removing the Air Filter/Muffler

Cover

1. Remove the four (4)screws

securing the air filter/muffler

cover (Fig. 14). Use a flat blade

or T20 Torx bit screwdriver.

2. Pull the cover from the

engine. Do not force.

2. Turn cover over and look

inside to locate the air filter.

3. Wash the filter in detergent

and water (Fig. 16). Rinse

the filter thoroughly.

Squeeze out excess water.

Allow it to dry completely.

4. Apply enough clean SAE

30 oil to lightly coat the

filter (Fig. 17).

5. Squeeze the filter to

spread and remove

excess oil (Fig. 18).

6. Replace the air filter

inside the air filter/muffler

cover (Fig. 15).

NOTE: Operating the unit

without the air filter

and air filter/muffler

cover assembly will

VOID the warranty.

1. Place the air filter/muffler

cover over the back of the

carburetor and muffler.

Align the screw holes.

2. Insert the four (4) screws

into the holes in the air

filter/muffler cover (Fig.

over tighten.

SPARK ARRESTOR MAINTENANCE

NOTE: Pay close attention when disassembling the muffler so you

can put it back together correctly. Failure to do so will

damage the unit and may cause serious personal injury.

1. Remove air filter/muffler cover. Refer to Removing the Air

Filter/Muffler Cover.

2. Locate the muffler,but do not remove it. Findthe screw on the

bottom of the muffler (Fig. 19).This screw holds the Spark Arrestor

Hood Assembly and the spark arrestor screen to the bottom of the

muffler. Removethis screw using either aTorx T20 or flat blade

screwdriver.

4. Clean the spark arrestor screen with a wire brush. Replace it if it

is damaged, or if you are unable to clean it thoroughly.

5. Reinstall the spark arrestor screen by putting the "raised"

portion of the screen inside the recessed hole of the muffler.

Make sure that the spark arrestor screen fits flat against the

muffler.

6. Place the spark arrestor hood on top of the spark arrestor plate

with the "raised" side up and the opening facing AWAY from the

engine (Fig. 18). Verify that the exhaust will be directed AWAY

from the engine.

7. Replace the screw you removed in Step 2 and tighten securely.

8. Reinstall the air filter/muffler cover (Fig. 13).

I _I_ WARN ING: If the spark arrestor hood and spark arrestor

screen are not tightened securely, they could fall off causing

damage to the unit and possible serious personal injury.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: Careless adjustments can seriously damage your unit. Contact

aSears or other qualified service dealer to make carburetor

adjustments. Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME® for more information.

REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG

Use a Champion RDJ7Y spark plug or equivalent. Remove the plug

after every 25 hours of operation and check its condition.

1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Grasp the plug boot firmly

and pull it from the spark plug.

2. Clean around the spark plug. Remove the spark plug from the

cylinder head by turning a 5/8-inch socket counterclockwise.

I_ WARNING: Do not sand blast' scrape °r clean spark plug I

electrodes. Grit in the engine could damage the cylinder.

3. Replace a cracked, fouled

or dirty spark plug. Set _'-

the air gap at 0.025 in.

(0.635 ram} using a feeler

gauge (Fig. 20).

4. Install a correctly-gapped

spark plug in the cylinder |

head. Tighten by turning the 0.025 in.

5. Reattach the plug boot.

TRANSPORTING

° Allow the engine to cool before transporting.

° Drain fuel from unit.

° Tighten fuel cap before transporting.

° Secure the unit while transporting.

CLEANING

,l_l WARNING" Toavoid serious personal injury, always turn your

Use a small brush to clean off the outside of the unit. Do not use strong

detergents. Household cleaners that contain aromatic oils such as pine

and lemon, and solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic housing

or handle. Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth.

STORAGE

° Neverstore a fueled unit where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

° Allow the engine to cool before storing.

° Store the unit locked up to prevent unauthorized use or damage.

° Store the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area.

° Store the unit out of the reach of children.

LONG TERM STORAGE

If you plan on storing the unit for an extended time, use the

following storage procedure:

1. Carefully drain the fuel tank by running the unit dry or remove

fuel cap and tip the motor housing over and drain oil/gas fuel

into a container with the same 2-cycle fuel mixture. Do not use

fuel that has been stored for more than 60 days.

2. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls. This ensures

that all fuel has been drained from the carburetor.

3. Allow the engine to cool. Remove the spark plug and put 1 oz.

(30 ml) of any high quality motor oil or 2-cycle oil into the

cylinder. Pull the starter rope slowly to distribute the oil.

Reinstall the spark plug.

NOTE: Remove the spark plug and drain all of the oil from the

cylinder before attempting to start the trimmer after storage.

4. Thoroughly clean the unit and inspect it for any loose or

damaged parts. Repair or replace damaged parts and tighten

loose screws, nuts or bolts. The unit is ready for storage.

Your Warranty Rights and Obligations

The California Air Resources Board, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Sears, Roebuck and Co. (Sears) are pleased to explain the emission

control system warranty on your 2007 and later small off-road engine. InCalifornia and the 49 states, new small off-road engines must be designed,

built and equipped to meet the state's stringent anti-smog standards. Sears must warrant the emission control system on your small off-road engine

for the periods of time listed below provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your small off-road engine.

Your emission control system may include parts such as the carburetor or fuel-injection system, the ignition system, and catalytic converter. Also

included may be hoses, belts, connectors and other emission-related assemblies.

Where a warrantable condition exists, Sears will repair your small off-road engine at no cost to you including diagnosis, parts and labor.

The 2007 and later small off-road engines arewarranted for two years. If any emission-related part on your engine is defective, the part will be repaired

or replaced by Sears.

Owners Warranty Responsibilities

As the small off-road engine owner, you are responsible for the performance of the required maintenance listed in your operator's manual. Sears

recommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your small off-road engine, but Sears cannot deny warranty solely for the lack

of receipts or for your failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled maintenance.

• As the small off-road engine owner, you should however be aware that Sears may deny you warranty coverage if your small off-road engine

or a part has failed due to abuse, neglect, improper maintenance or unapproved modifications.

• You are responsible for presenting your small off-road engine to a Sears Authorized Service Center as soon as a problem exists. The

warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 30 days.

Manufacturer's Warranty Coverage

• The warranty period begins on the date the engine or equipment is delivered to the retail purchaser.

• The manufacturer warrants to the initial owner and each subsequent purchaser, that the engine is free from defects in material and

workmanship which cause the failure of a warranted part for a period of two years.

• Repair or replacement of warranted part will be performed at no charge to the owner at an Authorized Sears Service Center. For the nearest

location please contact Sears at: f-800-4-MY-NOME ®.

• Any warranted part which is not scheduled for replacement, as required maintenance or which is scheduled for only for regular inspection

to the effect of "Repair or Replace as Necessary" is warranted for the warranty period. Any warranted part which is scheduled for

replacement as required maintenance will be warranted for the period of time up to the first scheduled replacement point for that part.

• The owner will not be charged for diagnostic labor which leads to the determination that awarranted part is defective, if the diagnostic work

is performed at an Authorized Sears Service Center.

• The manufacturer is liable for damages to other engine components caused by the failure of a warranted part still under warranty.

• Failures caused by abuse, neglect or improper maintenance are not covered under warranty.

• The use of add-on or modified parts can be grounds for disallowing a warranty claim. The manufacturer is not liable to cover failures of

warranted parts caused by the use of add-on or modified parts.

• In order to file a claim, go to your nearest Authorized Sears Service Center. Warranty services or repairs will be provided at all Authorized

Sears Service Centers.

• Any manufacturer approved replacement part may be used in the performance of any warranty maintenance or repair of emission related

parts and will be provided without charge to the owner. Any replacement part that is equivalent in performance or durability may be used

in non-warranty maintenance or repair and will not reduce the warranty obligations of the manufacturer.

Emission Warranty Parts List:

The following components are included in the emission-related warranty of the engine: air filter, carburetor, primer, fuel lines, fuel pick up/fuel

filter, ignition module, spark plug, and muffler. Valves and Cam are additionally included if your engine is a 4-Stroke Model.

CALIFORNIA EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL WARRANTY STATEMENT

Your Warranty Rights and Obligations

on your 2007 model year and later small off-road (equipment type) engine. In California, new equipment that use small off-engines must be designed,

built, and equipped to meet the State's stringent anti-smog standards Sears must warrant the evaporative emission control system on your small

off-road Lawn & Garden engine for the period listed below provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your equipment.

Your evaporative emission control system may include parts such as: carburetors, fuel tanks, fuel lines, fuel caps, valves, canisters, filters, vapor

hoses, clamps, connectors, and other associated components. For engines less than or equal to 80 cc, only the fuel tank is subject to the

evaporative emission control warranty requirements of this section. The displacement of your small off road engine is less than 80 cc.

Manufacturer's Warranty Coverage

This evaporative emission control system is warranted for two years. If any evaporative emission-related part on your equipment is defective,

the part will be repaired or replaced by Sears.

Owner's Warranty Responsibilities

• As the small off-road Lawn & Garden engine owner, you are responsible for performance of the required maintenance listed in your owner's

manual. Sears recommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your Lawn & Garden Engine but Sears cannot deny

warranty solely for the lack of receipts.

• As the small off-road Lawn & Garden engine owner, you should however be aware that the Sears may deny you warranty coverage if your

fuel tank has failed due to abuse, neglect, or improper maintenance or unapproved modifications.

• You are responsible for presenting your Lawn & Garden fuel tank to Sears distribution center or service center as soon as the problem exists.

The warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 30 days. If you have a question regarding your

warranty coverage, you should contact Sears at f-800-4-MY-NOME ®.

DefectsWarrantyRequirements

(a) The warranty period begins on the date the engine or equipment is delivered to an ultimate purchaser.

(b) General Evaporative Emissions Warranty Coverage. The fuel tank must be warranted to the ultimate purchaser and any subsequent owner

that the evaporative emission control system when installed was:

(1) Designed, built, and equipped so as to conform with all applicable regulations; and

(2) Free from defects in materials and workmanship that causes the failure of a warranted part for a period of two years.

(1) Any warranted part that is not scheduled for replacement as required maintenance in the written instructions must be warranted for the

warranty period defined in subsection (b)(2). Ifany such part fails during the period of warranty coverage, it must be repaired or replaced

by Sears. Any such part repaired or replaced under the warranty must be warranted for a time not less than the remaining warranty

period.

(2) Any warranted part that is scheduled only for regular inspection in the written instructions must be warranted for the warranty period defined in

subsection (b)(2).A statement in such written instructions to the effect of "repair or replace as necessary" will not reduce the period of warranty

coverage. Any such part repaired or replaced under warranty must be warranted for a time not less than the remaining warranty period.

(3) Any warranted part that is scheduled for replacement as required maintenance in the written instructions must be warranted for the

period of time prior to the first scheduled replacement point for that part. If the part fails prior to the first scheduled replacement, the

part must be repaired or replaced by the Sears. Any such part repaired or replaced under warranty must be warranted for a time not less

than the remainder of the period prior to the first scheduled replacement point for the part.

(4) Repair or replacement of any warranted part under the warranty provisions of this article must be performed at no charge to the owner

at a warranty station.

(5) Not withstanding the provisions of subsection (4) above, warranty services or repairs must be provided at distribution centers that are

franchised to service the subject engines or equipment.

(6) The owner must not be charged for diagnostic labor that leads to the determination that a warranted part is in fact defective, provided

that such diagnostic work is performed at a warranty station.

(7) Throughout the evaporative emission control system's warranty period set out in subsection (b)(2), Sears must maintain a supply of

warranted parts sufficient to meet the expected demand for such parts.

(8) Manufacturer approved replacement parts must be used in the performance of any warranty maintenance or repairs and must be provided

without charge to the owner. Such use will not reduce the warranty obligations of the manufacturer issuing the warranty.

(9) The use of any add-on or modified parts will be grounds for disallowing a warranty claim made in accordance with this article. The

manufacturer issuing the warranty will not be liable under this Article to warrant failures of warranted parts caused by the use of an add-

on or modified part.

(10) Sears shall provide any documents that describe the warranty procedures or policies within five working days of request bythe Air Resources Board.

Ifnea reforzada con metal, alambre, cadena ni soga, etc. Estas

pueden desprenderse y convertirse en un proyectil peligroso.

• Tenga en cuenta el riesgo de lesiones en la cabeza, manos y pies.

• Oprima el control del regulador y verifique que regrese

automaticamente a la posici6n de minima. Haga todos los

ajustes o reparaciones antes de usar la unidad.

• Limpie el Areade corte antes de cadaueo. Retiretodoe los objetos como

rocas, vidrios rotoe,clavos, alambre o cuerda los cuales pueden ser

despedidos o enredarse en elaccesorio de corte. Aleje atodos los nifioe,

ADVERTENCIAS DE SEGURIDAD A GASOLINA

_L_ DVERTENCIA: Lagasolinaes muy inflamabley susgases

• Guarde el combustible en envases que hayan sido dise_ados y

aprobados para el almacenamiento de dichos materiales.

• Antes de Ilenar el tanque de combustible, apague siempre el

motor y espere que se enfrfe. No retire nunca la tapa del tanque

de combustible ni cargue combustible mientras el motor este

caliente. No opere nunca la unidad sin la tapa del combustible

colocada firmemente en su lugar. Afloje la tapa del combustible

lentamente para disipar la presi6n del tanque.

• Mezcle y cargue el combustible en un Area exterior bien ventilada

donde no haya chispas ni llamas. Quite lentamente la tapa del

combustible s61o despues de apagar el motor. No fume mientras

carga o mezcla el combustible. Limpie de inmediato todo el

combustible que se haya derramado.

• Evite crear una fuente de encendido por combustible derramado.

No arranque el motor hasta que se hayan disipado los vapores

del combustible.

• Aleje la unidad a por Io menos 30 pies (9.1 m.) del lugar de carga

de combustible antes de arrancar el motor. No fume, mantenga

las chispas y las llamas abiertas lejos del Area mientras carga el

combustible u opera la unidad.

DURANTE LA OPERACION

• No arranque ni opere la unidad en unasala o edificio cerrado. Los

gases de escape de mon6xido de carbono pueden ser letales en un

Areacerrada. Opere esta unidad s61oen un Areaexterior bien ventilada.

• Use lentes o gafas de protecci6n que cumplan con las

normas ANSI Z87.1-1989, y protecci6n para sus ofdos/audici6n

mientras opere esta unidad. Use siempre una mascara facial o

para protegerse contra el polvosi la operaci6n levanta polvo.

• Use pantalones largos y gruesos, botas, guantes y camisa de manga

larga. No use ropa holgada, alhajas, pantalones cortes, sandal!as ni

este descalzo. Sostenga el cabello sobre el nivel de los hombros.

• La protecci6n accesoria de corte debe estar siempre colocada en

su lugar mientras opere la unidad. No opere la unidad con las dos

lineas de corte extendidas, y la linea correcta instalada. No

extienda la Ifnea de corte mas alia de la Iongitud de la protecci6n.

• Esta unidad no tiene embrague. El accesorio de corte continQa

girando cuando el motor esta en marcha en vacio. Para evitar

lesiones, haga que un tecnico de servicio autorizado ajuste la unidad.

• Ajuste la manija en D asu tamafio de modo que le brinde el mejor agarre.

• AsegQrese de que el accesorio de corte no esta en contacto con

ningQn objeto antes de arrancar la unidad.

• Use la unidad Qnicamente con la luz del dia o con buena luz artificial.

• Evite arrancar la unidad accidentalmente. Col6quese en posici6n

de inicio siempre que tire de la cuerda de arranque. El operador y

la unidad deben estar en una posici6n estable al comenzar. Lea

las instrucciones de Arranque y Apagado.

• Use la herramienta adecuada. No use esta unidad para ninguna

tarea para la cual no ha sido dise_ada.

• No se estire demasiado. Mantenga siempre una posici6n y

equilibrio adecuados.

• Sostenga siempre la unidad con ambas manes mientras este en

funcionamiento. Sostenga con firmeza tanto el mango como la

manija auxiliar.

• Mantenga las manes, la cara y los pies lejos de todas las partes

m6viles. No intente tocar ni detener el accesorio de corte mientras gira.

• No toque el motor, el bastidor del engranaje ni el silenciador.

Estas partes se calientan mucho con la operaci6n. Luego de

apagar la unidad, permanecen calientes durante un tiempo breve.

• No opere el motor a una velocidad mayor que la necesaria para

cortar, recortar o recortar los bordes. No haga funcionar el motor

a alta velocidad mientras no esta cortando.

• Apague siempre el motor cuando demore el corte o mientras

camina entre zonas de corte.

INSTALACION DEL ACCESORIO RECORTADOR

Antes del uso, la marca la fijaci6n segura de trimmer es instalada

correctamente. Refierase por favor a Operar el Convertible TM

Sistema de Acoplador para la instalaci6n apropiada.

NOTA: Quite la tapa roja o el gancho de la cubierta inferior del eje

antes de ensamblar al acoplador Convertible TM

INSTRUCCIONES PARA MEZCLAR EL ACEITE Y EL COMBUSTIBLE

El combustible viejo o real mezclado son los motivos principales del

real funcionamiento de la unidad. AsegL_resede uear combustible

nuevo, limpio y sin plomo. Siga las instrucciones en detalle para

mezclar correctamente el aceite y el combustible.

Definici6n de los combustibles de mezcla

Los combustibles actuales con frecuenciason unamezclade gasolinay

oxigenantes como pot ejemplo etanol, metanol o MTBE (eter).Elcombustible

mezclado con alcoholabsorbe agua. Unacantidad tan pequeSacomo el 1%

de agua enel combustible puede cauear la separaci6ndel combustible y el

aceite.Forma Acidos cuando estAalmacenado. Cuando usecombustible

mezclado con alcohol,use combustible nuevo (demenos de 60 dfas).

Uso de combustibles de mezcla

Si usted opta pot usar un combustible de mezcla o ei su uso es

inevitable, tome lae precauciones recomendadas.

• Use siempre una mezcla fresca de combustible eegL_nIo indica

eu manual del operador.

• Agite siempre la mezcla de combustible antes de cargarlo en la unidad.

• Drene el tanque y haga funcionar el motor en eeco antes de

guardar la unidad.

Uso de aditivos en el combustible

La botella de aceite de 2 ciclos que vino con su unidad contiene un aditivo

en elcombustible que ayudara a inhibit la corrosi6n y a reducirla formaci6n

de dep6sitos de goma. Se recomienda que use s61oel aceite de 2 ciclos

con esta unidad. Si es inevitable,use un buen aceitede 2 ciclos elaborado

para motores enfriados por aire junto con un aditivo para el combustible

como por ejemplo el estabilizador de gasolina STA-BIL® o similar.Agregue

23 mL (0,8onzas)de aditivo de combustible por gal6n de combustible de

acuerdo con lasinstrucciones del envase. NUNCA agregueaditivos

directamente en el tanque de combustible de la unidad.

NOTA: La unidad usa INCREDI-PULU MIo cual reduce

considerablemente el esfuerzo requerido para arrancar

el motor. Debe halar el cord6n de arranque Io suficiente

para oir que el motor trata de arrancar. No es necesario

halar el cord6n con energia: no hay fuerte resistencia al

halar. Tenga en cuenta que este metodo de arranque

es muy diferente (y mucho mas facil) del que usted

pudiera estar acostumbrado a usar.

Antes de operar esta unidad, parese en

posici6n de operaci6n (Fig. 8). Verifique Io

• El operador tiene protecci6n ocular y

ropa adecuada.

• El brazo derecho esta levemente

doblado, y la mane esta sosteniendo

el mango del eje.

• El brazo izquierdo esta recto y la

mane sostiene la manija en D.

• La unidad esta debajo del nivel de la

cintura.

• El accesorio de corte esta paralelo al

suelo y hace facil

CONSEJOS PARA OBTENER MEJORES RESULTADOS AL

RECORTAR

• El angulo correcto para ubicar el accesorio de cortees paralelo al

suelo.

• Corte de derecha a izquierda siempre que sea posible. Cortar

hacia la izquierda mejora la eficiencia de la unidad. Los recortes

salen arrojados en sentido contrario al operador.

• Recorte Qnicamente cuando el paste y las hierbas esten secas.

• La vida de su linea de corte depende de:

• Seguir todas las tecnicas de corte indicadas anteriormente

• El tipo de vegetaci6n que corte

• El lugar donde se corta

Por ejemplo, la Ifnea se desgastara mas rapido cuando corte contra

un muro que cuando corte alrededor de un arbol.

RECORTE DECORATIVO

El recorte decorative se realiza

eliminando toda la vegetaci6n de

alrededor de los arboles, postes,

cercos, etc.

Gire toda la unidad a mode de que el

accesorio de corte se ubique a un

angulo de 30° con el suelo (Fig. 9).

con la unidad fria. Desconecte el cable de la bujia de encendido

Estos procedimientos requeridos para el mantenimiento deben ser

realizados con lafrecuencia indicada en la tabla. Deben ser incluidos come

parte de toda puesta a punto de cadatemporada.

1. Quite la linea vieja y la placa guia

de la linea del cabezal de corte.

2. Limpie completamentela

NOTA: Durante el uso normal, la linea de corte puede desgastarse

disparejamente Io cual puede ocasionar exceso de vibraciones

en la unidad. Si esto setorna inc6modo o incontrolable, pare la

unidad y cambie la linea. Vea las Instrucciones sobre Reemplazo

de la Linea mas arriba.

MANTENIMIENTO DEL FILTRO DE AIRE

_lb] DVERTENCIA: Para evitar graves lesiones personales,

apague siempre su recortador y espere que se enfrie antes

de limpiarlo o realizar todo tipo de mantenimiento.

La condici6n del filtro de aire es

importante para la operaci6n de

la unidad. Un filtro de aire sucio

limitara el flujo de aire y cambiara

la mezcla de combustible y aire Tornillos,

en el carburador. Esto con

frecuencia se confunde con un

carburador mal ajustado.

Verifique la condicidn del filtro de

aire antes de ajustar el tornillo de

marcha lenta. Consulte

Mantenimiento del Filtro de Aire.

Remoci6n de la cubierta del

silenciador/filtro de aire

1. Saque los cuatro (4)tornillos

1. Coloque la cubierta del silenciador / filtro de airesobre la parte posterior

del carburador y del silenciador.Alinee los orificios de los tornillos.

2. Inserteloscuatro (4)tornillos en losorificios de lacubierta del

silenciador / filtro de aire(Fig. 13)y ajQstelos.No los ajustedemasiado.

MANTENIMIENTO DEL PARACHISPAS

NOTA: El flujo de las emisiones puede ser en unadirecci6n solamente:

APARTANDOSEdel motor. Preste mucha atenci6n a c6mo se

ensambla el silenciador, de modo que Io pueda volver a armar

2. Localice el silenciador, Cap6 del parachispas Motor

pero no Io quite. Busque /Ran, ir_ A

3. Levante cuidadosamente

cubierta. Abra con un golpe rapido la cubierta del parachispas,

como si fuera una puerta, y deepuee hale lae leng0etae para

sacarlae de lae ranuras del silenciador.

4. Con un destornillador de punta plana, levante cuidadosamente

haciendo palanca la rejilla del parachispas, sacandola del

interior de la cubierta del parachispas.

5. Limpie la rejila del parachiepas con un cepillo de cerdae metalicas.

Cambiela siesta datada o si no la puede limpiar completamente.

6. Reinstale la rejilla del parachispae, ajustandola en forma cetida

de nuevo en la cubierta del parachispas.

7. Reinetale las doe lengOetas de la cubierta en las dos ranuras y

cierre la cubierta del parachispas con un golpe rapido.

8. Vuelva a colocar el tornillo que quit6 en el Paso 2 y aprietele

firmemente.

9. Reinstale la tapa del filtro de aire / silenciador.

I_lk DVERTENClA: Si elcap6 del parachispas y pantalla del

parachispas no se aprieta fijamente se puede caer y causarle

dafio a la unidad y posibles lesiones personales graves.

AJUSTI= DI=L CARBURADOR

NOTA: Los ajustes realizados sin cuidado pueden datar seriamente su

unidad. Contacte una Quemaduras uotto comerciante

calificado del servicio para hacer los ajustes de carburador.

CAMBIO DE LA BUJIA DE ENCENDIDO

I_, DVERTENCIA" No limpie con chorro de arena, ni

raepe ni limpie los electrodos. El motor podrfa datarse si

penetran pequetas particulas en el cilindro.

Use una bujia de encendido Champion RDJ7Y (o similar). La

separaci6n correcta ee de 0,635 mm (0,025 pulgadae). Retire la

bujia luego de cada 25 horae de operaci6n e inspeccione su estado.

1. Apague el motor y espere que se enfrie. Tome el alambre de la

bujfa con firmeza y saquelo de la bujia de encendido.

2. Limpie alrededor de la bujia de encendido. Saque la bujia de

encendido de lacabeza del cilindro girando una Ilave de casquillo

de 5/8 de pulgada en sentido antihorario.

3. Cambie las bujias que

esten rajadas, sucias o

deterioradas. Fije la

separaci6n de aire a

0,635 mm (0,025

pulgadas) utilizando un

calibrador (Fig. 19).

4. Instale una bujfa de

encendido con la

separaci6n correcta en la

cabeza del cilindro.

TRANSPORTE

• Espere que el motor se enfrfe antes de su transporte.

° Drene el combustible de la unidad.

° Ajuste la tapa del combustible antes del transporte.

° Asegure la unidad durante su transporte.

LIMPIEZA

ADVERTENCIA: Para evitar graves lesiones personales,

apague siempre su recortador y espere que se enfrfe antes

de limpiarlo o realizar cualquier tipo de mantenimiento.

Use un cepillo pequeto para limpiar la parte exterior de la unidad.

No use detergentee fuertes. Los limpiadoree domesticos que

contienen aceitee aromaticoe como pino y lim6n, y con eolventes

como el queroseno pueden datar el bastidor de plastico y la

manija. Seque toda la humedad con un patio suave.

ALMACENAMIENTO

* No guarde nunca la unidad con combustible en el tanque donde

los vapores puedan Ilegar a una llama o chiepa.

* Eepere que el motor se enfrfe antes de guardar la unidad.

* Guarde la unidad bajo Ilave para prevenir el uso pot

personas no autorizadas y eu dato.

* Guarde la unidad en un area seca y bien ventilada.

* Guarde la unidad fuera del alcance de los nitos.

ALMACI=NAMIENTO PROLONGADO

Si planea guardar la unidad durante un largo periodo de tiempo,

siga el siguiente procedimiento para su almacenamiento.

1. Drene todo el combustible del tanque de combustible en un

recipiente que contenga la misma mezcla de combustible de 2

ciclos. No use combustible que haya permanecido guardado

durante mas de 60 diae. Deseche la mezcla vieja de combustible y

aceite de acuerdo a laeregulaciones federalee, eetatalee y locales.

2. Arranque el motor y dejelo funcionar haeta que se ahogue. Eeto

asegura que todo el combustible ha sido drenado del carburador.

3. Eepere que el motor se enfrfe. Retire la bujia de encendido y

coloque alrededor de 30 ml (1 onza) de cualquier aceite para

motor de 2 ciclos de buena calidad dentro del cilindro. Tire de

la cuerda de arranque lentamente para esparcir el aceite.

Vuelva a instalar la bujfa de encendido.

NOTA: Saque la bujia de encendido y drene todo el aceite del

cilindro antes de intentar arrancar el recortador despues de

su almacenamiento.

4. Limpie bien la unidad e inspeccione para vet si existen partes

flojae o datadas. Repare o cambie las partee datadae y ajuste

los tornilloe, tuercas o pernos que puedan estar flojoe. La

unidad esta ahora lista para set guardada.

El Censejo de Recursos del Aire (Air Resources Board) de California y Sears, Roebuck and Co. (Sears)tienen el placer de explicar la garantia del sistema de

control de emisienes evaporativasen su motor "off-road" pequeSo (tipode equipo) modelo delafio 2007y posterior. EnCalifornia, los nuevos equipos que usen

motores "off-road" pequefios deben ser disefiados, construidos y equipados para que cumplan con las exigentes normas del Estado contra el "smog". Sears

debe garantizar el sistema de control de emisienes evaporativas en su motor "off-road" Lawn & Garden (parael cesped y eljardin) pequefio para el periodo

que seindica a continuaci6n siempre y cuando no hayahabido maltrato, negligencia o mantenimiento inadecuado de su equipo.

Su sistema de control de emisiones evaporativas pudiera incluir piezas tales como: carburadores, tanques de combustible, tuberias de combustible, tapas de

combustible, valvulas, recipientes, filtros, mangueras de vapor,abrazaderas, conectores y otros componentes relacionados. En el caso de los motores de 80

cc o menos, solamente el tanque de combustible esta sujeto a los requisitos de la garantia de control de emisiones evaporativas de esta secci6n. El

desplazamiento de su motor "off-road" pequeSo es de menos de 80 cc.

Cobertura de la Garantia del Fabricante

Este sistema de control de emisiones evaporativas esta garantizado pordos afios. Si cualquier pieza relacionada con lasemisiones evaporativas de su equipo

es defectuosa, la pieza serareparada o reemplazada por Sears.

ResponsabilidadesdelPropietariosegt_nlaGarantia

• Como propietario del motor "off-road" Lawn & Garden pequefio, usted es responsable de realizar el mantenimiento requerido que seindica ensu manual

de propietario. Sears recomienda que usted conserve todos los recibos que cubren el mantenimiento de su Motor Lawn &Garden, pero Sears no puede

denegar la garantia solamente porque usted no tenga los recibos.

• Sin embargo, como propietario del motor "off-road" Lawn & Garden pequefio, usted debera estar consciente de que Sears pudiera denegarle cobertura

de lagarantiasi sutanque de combustible ha presentado fallasdebido amaltrato, negligencia,mantenimiento inadecuado o modificaciones no aprobadas.

• Usted esresponsable de presentarsutanque de combustible Lawn &Gardenal centro de distribucion o al centrode servicio de Searstan pronto se detecte

el problema. Las reparaciones en garantia deberan terminarse en un perfodo de tiempo razonable, no mayor de 30 dias. Si tiene alguna pregunta en

relaci6n con la cobertura de sugarantia, debera comunicarse con Sears Ilamando al 1-800-4-MY-HOME ®.

Requisitos de la Garantia por Defectos

(a) El periodo de garantia comienza en la fecha en que se entrega el motor o el equipo a un comprador final.

(b) Cobertura Generalde laGarantiade Emisiones Evaporativas.Eltanque de combustible debe estar garantizado al comprador finaly acualquier propietario

posterior en cuanto a que cuando se instalo el sistema de control de emisiones evaporativas estaba:

(1) Disefiado, construido y equipado de forma tal que cumplia con todas la regulacionesaplicables; y

(2) Sindefectos en los materiales ni la mano de obra que ocasionen la falla de una pieza garantizada durante un periodo de dos afios.

(1) Cualquier pieza garantizada que no este programada para reemplazo segQnrequiere el mantenimiento en las instrucciones por escrito, debe estar

garantizada per el periodo de garantfadefinido en lasubseccion (b)(2).Si alguna deesas piezas falladurante el periodo de cobertura de lagarantia, debe

ser reparada o reemplazada por Sears. Cualquier pieza reparada o reemplazada bajo la garantia debe estar garantizada por un tiempo no menor que

el perfodo de garantia restante.

(2) Cualquier pieza garantizada que en las instrucciones por escrito este programada solamente para inspeccion regular,debe estar garantizada por el

periodo de garantfa definido en la subseccion (b)(2).Unadeclaracion en dichas instrucciones per escrito al efecto de "reparar o reemplazar segQnsea

necesario" no reducira el periodo de cobertura de la garantfa.Cualquier pieza reparada o reemplazada bajo la garantia debe estar garantizada por un

tiempo no menor que el periodo de garantia restante.

(3) Cualquier piezagarantizadaque este programada para reemplazo, segt]nexige elmantenimiento en lasinstrucciones porescrito, debe estar garantizada

por el periodo de tiempo anterior al primer punto de reemplazo programado para esa pieza.Si la piezafalla antes del primer reemplazo programado, la

piezadebe serreparada o reemplaza porSears. Cualquier pieza reparadao reemplazada bajola garantiadebe estar garantizadapor untiempo no menor

que Ioque testa del periodo anterior al primer punto de reemplazo programado para esa pieza.

(4) La reparacion o el reemplazo de cualquier pieza garantizada bajo las disposiciones de garantfa de este articulo se debe realizar sin costo alguno para

el propietario en una estacion deride se hagan trabajos de garantia.

(5) Independientemente de las disposiciones de la subsecci6n (4)anterior, los servicios o reparaciones en garantia se deben proporcionar en centros de

distribucion que esten franquiciados para prestar servicios a los motores o equipos en cuestion.

(6) No se debe cobrar al propietario per el trabajo de diagnostico para determinar que una pieza garantizada esta realmentedefectuosa, siempre y cuando

dicho trabajo de diagn6stico se Ileveacabo en una estacion donde se hagan trabajos de garantia.

(7) Durante el periodo de garantfadel sistema de control de emisiones evaporativasestablecido en lasubsecci6n (b)(2),Searsdebe mantener unsuministro

de piezas garantizadas suficiente para satisfacer la demanda esperada de dichas piezas.

(8) AIrealizar cualquier mantenimiento o reparacion en garantia se deben usarpiezas de reemplazo aprobadas por el fabricante y se deben proporcionar

sin cargo alguno para elpropietario. Tal uso no reducira las obligaciones de garantia del fabricante queemite la garantfa.

(9) El use de cualquier accesorio opieza modificada seramotivo para desestimar una reclamacion de garantia hecha en conformidad con este artfculo. El

fabricante que emitela garantia noseraresponsable, segt]n esteArticulo, de garantizarfallasde piezas garantizadascausadas poreluso de un accesorio

o unapieza modificada.

(10) Searsproporcionarb,losdocumentos que describen los procedimientos onormas de lagarantia, en un plazo de cinco dias habilesdesde que los solicite

el Consejo de Recursos del Aire.
