Receptacle wiring
Use 14 gauge (minimum) wire for receptacle wiring. Use
copper wire only. It is the responsibility of the consumer to
provide proper and adequate receptacle wiring, installed by a
qualified electrician. Observe the National Electrical Code and

Instructions
Proper installation of your air conditioner is important for proper
operation and best cooling results. To avoid any installation
problems and to ensure trouble-free performance of your new
air conditioner, please read these installation instructions, as
well as the operating instructions and electrical requirements,
before installing your unit.
IMPORTANT: Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
Excessive Weight Hazard
Use two or more people to move and install air
conditioner.
Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.
Before you begin
Check the window/wall location where the air conditioner will
be installed for the following:
l
The opening/window is large enough.
l
The wall/window is sturdy enough to support the weight
of the air conditioner - 75 lo 125 pounds (33.8 to 56.3 kg).
l
An electrical supply is withln reach of the power supply
cord.
l
Air will move freely into rooms to be cooled.

Installation tips

Handle the air conditioner with care. Watch out for the sharp
metal fins on the front and rear coils.
. Be sure your air conditioner does not fall out of the opening
during installation.
l
Do not install the air conditioner in an area where the front
panel will be exposed to heat sources that will raise the panel
surface temperature above 120°F (50°C).
Window installation
NOTE: Be sure the cabinet does not fall out of the window
during installation.
Keep the window lock bracket installed at all times to ensure
that the unit will not fall out of the window. Remove the window
lock bracket only when you wish to remove the air conditioner
from the window.

Remove front panel from the unit. Push down on the top
of the front panel and pull forward. This protects the panel
from damage and makes the air conditioner easier to
handle during installation.
Center air conditioner in the window. Rear of unit must
be raised slightly to posrtion lower rail of air conditioner
behind and up against the back side of the window sill.
See Figure 4.
NOTE: Do not block air entry into the side louvers of the
cabinet.
Firmly lower the window sash behind the top mounting
channel.
Make sure the cabinet has the proper outward slope.
Place a carpenter’s level on the cabinet. There should be a
% bubble (X1’ [6 mm]) tilt toward the outside. See Figure 5.
Pull out sliding curtains. Extend curtains on both sides
until they reach the insides of the window channels. (Pulling
curtains slightly inward allows for easier sliding.)
Mark and drill a pilot hole in each curtain handle before
installing round-head screws (A). See Figure 6.
NOTE: If space is a problem, use the pre-drilled holes in the
top flanges of the curtains for the round-head screws.
Install the foam window rail seal (B) and the window
lock bracket (C). See Figure 7.

Insert foam rail seal between the top of the lower window
sash and the glass of the upper window.
l
Place the window lock bracket on top of the lower window
sash and against the upper window sash. Drill a starter
hole through the lock bracket and the window sash. Attach
the window bracket with a round-head screw (A).
Seal any small openings around window with gum-type
sealer (D).
Attach the front panel. Place bottom edge on clips and
push the top of the panel down, then up and in. See
Figure 8.

Sacar el panel delantero del artefacto. Empujar hacia

Centre el acondicionador de aire en la ventana. La parte
trasera del artefacto debe ser levantada levemente para
colocar el riel inferior del aire acondicionado detras y contra
la pane de atras de la batiente de la ventana. Ver Figura 4.
NOTA: No bloquee la entrada de aire a las rejillas laterales

Bajar firmemente la hoja de la ventana detras de la

3. Set Thermostat to a mid-setting. You can adjust the air
conditioner’s performance by resetting the Thermostat to a
warmer or colder setting. You will need to experiment to find
the setting(s) which work best for you.
NOTE: If you turn your air conditioner off or if the compressor
turns off when you lower the Thermostat, wait at least 3
minutes before turning unit back on. Failure to do so could
blow a household fuse or trip a circuit breaker.

Using the exhaust control
The Exhaust Control draws stale or smoky air from the room
and circulates air in the room.
To exhaust room air
(Figure 10):

Set Exhaust Control to Open.

Changing air direction
The louvers in the top section of the air conditioner front panel
control the direction of the cooled (or heated) air. Move the tab
in the direction you want the air to go - RIGHT, LEFT, or
STRAIGHT AHEAD. See Figure 12.

Proper use and care of your air conditioner will help ensure
longer life of the unit and lower operating costs. Follow these
cleaning instructions.
Cleaning the front panel
and air filter
Explosion Hazard
Unplug power cord from outlet before cleaning air
conditioner.
Use only nonflammable cleaners.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death,
explosion, fire, or electrical shock.
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Remove the front panel from the unit for cleaning. Press
down at top of front panel to release it from the top of the
cabinet. Pull top of front panel toward you. Then, lift up and
away from the bottom spring clips. See Figure 13.
3. Remove air filter from the front panel by removing the
elastic band which holds it in place. See Figure 14.
4. Clean air filter using a vacuum cleaner or, if very dirty, wash
filter with warm water and a mild detergent. Air dry thor-
oughly before replacing. Do not use a hot air dryer on the
air filter.
5. Clean front panel using a soft cloth with warm water and a
mild detergent. Rinse and dry.
6. Replace air filter and hold It in place with the elastic band.
7. Wipe control panel clean with a soft, dry cloth.
8. Replace the front panel. Locate bottom of panel on the
spring clips. Press down on top edge of front panel and
push panel toward unit to secure upper tabs.
9. Reconnect power cord to power supply.

Annual maintenance
Your air conditioner needs annual maintenance to ensure
steady, top performance throughout the year.
Call the service company recommended by your dealer to:

Inspect and clean the coils and condensate water passages.
l
Check fan.
The compressor and fan motor are sealed and need no
oiling. The expense of an annual inspection is the consumer’s
responsibility.
NOTE: If you are familiar with electrical appliances, you can do
the cleaning and maintenance yourself. If you choose to do so,
follow the steps below.
Electrical Shock Hazard
Unplug power cord from outlet before servicing.
Be sure no liquid gets into the motor, electrical
control box, or compressor terminals.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death,
electrical shock, or serious iniurv.
Excessive Weight Hazard
Use two or more people to move and install air
conditioner.
Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.
NOTE: Do not lift, push, or pull on any white beaded foam

liquid gets inside. Water or other liquids could damage the
insulation and cause serious mechanical problems.
Clean and hose out the base, coils, and condensate pans.
Clean at least once a year, or more often if the condenser
coils and pans collect dirt, sand, leaves, insects, or algae.
Also, clean if you detect an odor coming from the air
conditioner.

NOTE: It is a good Idea to wait 24 hours before starting the

Check once or twice a year. This is very important, especially
in areas near oceans or where rust is a problem. If needed,
touch up with a good grade enamel paint.
Saving energy
You can help save energy by doing the following:

Close blinds or drapes on the sunny side of the house. Add
awnings.

Check air filter often to make sure it is clean.

Do not block airflow with drapes or furniture.

Try not to use heat-producing appliances during the hottest
part of the day.

Turn lights and appliances off when they are not needed.

Sounds also may be caused by house construction - such as
vibration of the unit due to wall construction or unsteady
window mounting area.

Installation tips Handle the air conditioner with care. Watch out for the sharp metal fins on the front and rear coils. . Be sure your air conditioner does not fall out of the opening during installation. l Do not install the air conditioner in an area where the front panel will be exposed to heat sources that will raise the panel surface temperature above 120°F (50°C). l Window installation NOTE: Be sure the cabinet does not fall out of the window during installation. Keep the window lock bracket installed at all times to ensure that the unit will not fall out of the window. Remove the window lock bracket only when you wish to remove the air conditioner from the window. 1. Remove front panel from the unit. Push down on the top of the front panel and pull forward. This protects the panel from damage and makes the air conditioner easier to handle during installation. in the window. Rear of unit must 2. Extend curtains on both sides until they reach the insides of the window channels. (Pulling curtains slightly inward allows for easier sliding.) Mark and drill a pilot hole in each curtain handle before installing round-head screws (A). See Figure 6. NOTE: If space is a problem, use the pre-drilled holes in the top flanges of the curtains for the round-head screws. 6. Install the foam window rail seal (B) and the window lock bracket (C). See Figure 7. l Insert foam rail seal between the top of the lower window sash and the glass of the upper window. l Place the window lock bracket on top of the lower window sash and against the upper window sash. Drill a starter hole through the lock bracket and the window sash. Attach the window bracket with a round-head screw (A). 7. Seal any small openings around window with gum-type sealer (D). 8. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, explosion, fire, or electrical shock. 1. Unplug the power cord. 2. Remove the front panel from the unit for cleaning. Press down at top of front panel to release it from the top of the cabinet. Pull top of front panel toward you. Then, lift up and away from the bottom spring clips. See Figure 13. 3. Remove air filter from the front panel by removing the elastic band which holds it in place. See Figure 14. 4. Clean air filter using a vacuum cleaner or, if very dirty, wash filter with warm water and a mild detergent. Air dry thoroughly before replacing. Do not use a hot air dryer on the air filter. 5. Clean front panel using a soft cloth with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse and dry. 6. Replace air filter and hold It in place with the elastic band. 7. Wipe control panel clean with a soft, dry cloth. 8. Replace the front panel. Locate bottom of panel on the spring clips. Press down on top edge of front panel and push panel toward unit to secure upper tabs. 9. See Figure 15. l Slide curtains out to their fullest width. From the back side, remove the phillips-head screws (A) which attach the curtains to the cabinet. l Remove the slotted hex-head screws (B) holding the top channel. l Remove the slotted hex-head screws (C) on the sides of the cabinet. 5. Holding the cabinet on both sides, carefully lift cabinet off the base. Watch out for the sharp metal fins on the front and rear coils. 6. Wrap the motor, electrical control box, and the compressor terminal box in plastic film to make sure no water or other liquid gets inside. Water or other liquids could damage the insulation and cause serious mechanical problems. 7. Clean and hose out the base, coils, and condensate pans. Clean at least once a year, or more often if the condenser coils and pans collect dirt, sand, leaves, insects, or algae. Also, clean if you detect an odor coming from the air conditioner. 8. Remove plastic film from motor and electrical parts, 9. Replace unit in cabinet. Reattach top channel and side curtains. 10. Reinstall unit in window. 11. Replace front panel. 12. Plug in power cord. NOTE: It is a good Idea to wait 24 hours before starting the unit again. This allows time for all areas to dry thoroughly. Do not use an extension cord with this or any other appliance. Wait at least 3 minutes after turning unit off to turn it on agaln. Clean the filter. Clean the coils. Use exhaust/venting fans to reduce room heat. Set Fan Control to a higher fan speed. Set Thermostat to a higher setting sounds When your air conditioner is operating normally, you will hear such sounds as: l Droplets of water hitting the condenser, causing a “pinging” or “clicking” sound. Water droplets help cool the condenser. l Air movement from the fan - especially on High fan speed settings. l Clicks from the cooling cycle.
