Donotoperatewithoutwearingadequatewinteroutergarments.

Donotwearjewelry,longscarvesorotherlooseclothing,which

Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacleforall

machineswithelectricstartengines.

Disengageall controlleversbeforestartingtheengine.

SafeHandlingof Gasoline

Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein

handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare

explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineisspilled

onyourselfor yourclotheswhichcanignite. Washyourskinand

changeclothesimmediately.

• Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.

• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersourcesof

ignition.

• Neverfuelmachineindoors.

• Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhiletheengineishotor

running.

• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

froma gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthenozzlein contactwiththerimofthefueltankor

containeropeningatalltimesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Donotuse

a nozzlelock-opendevice.

OPERATION

housingor chuteassembly.Contactwiththerotatingpartscan

amputatehandsandfeet.

• Theauger/impellercontrolleverisa safetydevice.Neverbypass

itsoperation.Doingsomakesthemachineunsafeandmaycause

• Thecontrolleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsand

automaticallyreturntothedisengagedpositionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatewitha missingor damagedchuteassembly.Keep

all safetydevicesin placeandworking.

theoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntiltheauger/

impellercomestoa completestopbeforeuncloggingthechute

assembly,makinganyadjustments,or inspections.

Neverputyourhandinthedischargeor collectoropenings.Do

notunclogchuteassemblywhileengineisrunning.Shutoff

engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshave

stoppedbeforeunclogging.

Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythemanufac-

turer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.). Forinformation

Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntilresistanceisfelt,then

pull rapidly.Rapidretractionofstartercord(kickback)willpull

handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Broken

bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscouldresult.

CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE

Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethedischargechute

is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.

Neveruseyourhandtocleanoutthedischargechute.

Toclearthechute:

1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!

2. Wait 10secondstobesuretheimpellerbladeshavestopped

rotating.

3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,notyourhands.

MAINTENANCE & STORAGE

• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation

regularly.Refertothemaintenanceandadjustmentsectionsof

thismanual.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageall

controlleversandstoptheengine.Waituntiltheauger/impeller

cometoa completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand

groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.

Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequentintervals

tokeepthemachineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually

inspectmachineforanydamage.

Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor over-speedthe

engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

oftheengine.

Snowthrowershaveplatesand skidshoesaresubjecttowear

anddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckall

componentsand replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's

(OEM)partsonlyaslistedinthe Partspagesof thisoperator's

manual.Useofpartswhichdonotmeettheoriginalequipment

specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompro-

misesafety!

Checkcontrolleversperiodicallytoverifytheyengageanddisen-

Removing From Carton

1. Cutthecornersofthecartonandlaythesidesflaton theground.

Removeall packinginserts.

2. Movethesnowthroweroutofthecarton.

3. Makecertainthecartonhasbeencompletelyemptiedbefore

discardingit.

DO NOTliftthe snowthrowerbythechutehandle.

Before Assembly

operatingposition,facingforward,unlessotherwisestated.

Setting Up The Handle

NOTE: Beawareofthethreelooselyfittedcabletiesattachedtothe

lowerhandlethatwillbeutilizedlatertosecurethecables.

1. Loosenand removethewingknob,saddlewasher,handletaband

carriagescrewoneachsideofthelowerhandle.SeeFigure1.

2. Slidethe looselyfittedcabletiefromtherightsideofthe lower

handleupto thecrossmemberofthelowerhandle.Leavethe

secondcabletieinplaceonthe rightsideofthelowerhandle.See

Figure3 forreference.

iMPORTANT: itwillbenecessaryto lifttheupperhandlewhile

slidingupthiscabletieto preventdamagetothecable.

3. Lifttheupperhandleupandpositionit overthelowerhandle,

aligningthe holeswherethewingknobswereremoved(1).See

Figure2.

Becarefulnottobendor kinkthecables.

4. Inserta carriagescrewfromtheoutsidethrougha handletab,the

upperand lowerhandles,a saddlewasherandintothewingknob

(2). Repeatontheotherside.

5. Tightenthewingknobsoneachsideofthehandle.RefertoFigure

NOTE:Theaugercableroutesdowntheleft lowerhandleandthe

drivecableisroutedacrossthetopofthelowerhandleanddownthe

rightsideofthelowerhandle.SeeFigure3.

6. Twocabletieshavebeenusedtolooselytiethecontrolcablesto

thelowerhandle.A pushclipisalsoincludedon thelowerdrive

cable.Positioncabletiesnow,as inFig.3,andtightento secure

cablestothelowerhandle.Trimoff excessmaterialofcableties.

Thesnowthrowerskidshoesareadjustedupwardat thefactory

forshippingpurposes.Adjustthemdownward,ifdesired,priorto

operatingthesnowthrower.

It isnotrecommendedthatyouoperatethis snowthrowerongravel

as itcaneasilypickup andthrowloosegravel,causingpersonal

injuryordamagetothesnowthrowerand surroundingproperty.

• Forclosesnowremovalona smoothsurface,raiseskidshoes

higherontheaugerhousingtolowershaveplate.

• Whentheareatobeclearedisuneven,suchasa graveldriveway,

lowerskidshoeson theaugerhousingtoraisetheshaveplate.

NOTE:Ifyouchoosetooperatethesnowthrowerona gravelsurface,

keeptheskidshoesin lowestpositionformaximumclearance

betweenthegroundandtheshaveplate.

Operatinga snowthrowerequippedwithsteelskidshoesmay

resultindamagetonaturalstonepavedsurfaces(e.g.sandstone,

bluestone,limestone).Forinformationonavailablepolymerskid

Clean-Out Tool

Thechuteclean-outtoolisfastenedtothetopoftheaugerhousingwitha

mountingclipandacabletieatthefactory.Cutthecabletiebeforeoperating

thesnowthrower.SeeFigure5.

To adjust the skid shoes:

1. Loosenthefourhexnuts(twooneachside)andcarriagebolts.

Moveskidshoestodesiredposition.See Figure4.

Tire Pressure

Theproperinflationpressureisbetween15psiand20psi.Checkthetire

pressureperiodicallyandmaintainequalpressurein bothtiresatall

times.Excessivepressure(above20 psi)maycausethewheel(tire/

rim)assemblytoburstwithsufficientforcetocauseseriousinjury.Do

notover-inflatethetire.Usea manualpumpor portableelectrictire

inflatorto preventover-inflation.NEVERUSEANAIRCOMPRESSOR.

Over-inflatingthetirewithexcessivepressure(above20psi)may

causethetire/rimto burstwithsufficientforcetocauseseriousinjury.

Fuel Recommendations

Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor lowleadedtominimizecombus-

tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith

upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe

used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting

dirt,dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.

* Refuelin awell-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot

smokeor allowflamesorsparksintheareawheretheengineis

refueledor wheregasolineisstored.

* Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank

capisclosedproperlyandsecurely.

* Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuelvapor

mayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareaisdrybefore

startingtheengine.

* Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof

vapor.

Adding Fuel

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely

flammableandthevaporsareexplosive.Neverfuelthemachine

indoorsorwhiletheengineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,

cigars,pipesandothersourcesofignition.

Alwayskeephandsandfeetclearofequipmentmovingparts.Donot

usea pressurizedstartingfluid.Vaporsareflammable.

1. Cleanaroundfuel fillbeforeremovingcaptofuel.

2. A fuellevelindicatorislocatedinthefuel tank. Filltankuntilfuel

Checking Oil Level

Theengineisshippedwithoil in theengine.Youmust,however,

checktheoil levelpriortooperatingthesnowthrower.Runningthe

enginewithinsufficientoil cancauseseriousenginedamageand

voidtheenginewarranty.

NOTE: Besuretocheckthe engineon alevelsurfacewiththe engine

stopped.

1. Removetheoil fillercap/dipstickand wipethe dipstickclean.See

Figure7.

2. Insertthe cap/dipstickintothe oilfillerneck,turnthecap 1/4turnuntil

fully seated.

NOTE:Onsomeengines,athreadedcap/dipstickmayexist insteadof

a 1/4turncapas describedabove.Inthisinstancedo notfullytighten

the captochecktheoil level.Simplyrestthe caponthe threadsto

checkfor properoil level.

3. Removetheoil fillercap/dipstick.Ifthe levelis low,slowlyaddoiluntil

oil levelregistersbetweenhigh(H) andlow(L), Figure7. Referto the

EngineMaintenancesectionfor correctoil viscosityandengineoil

capacity.

tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith

upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe

used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting

dirt,dust,or waterinthefueltank.DONOTuseE85gasoline.

• Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththeenginestopped.Donot

smokeor allowflamesor sparksintheareawheretheengineis

refueledorwheregasolineisstored.

• Donotoverfillthefueltank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank

capisclosedproperlyand securely.

• Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuelor fuelvapor

mayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesuretheareaisdrybefore

startingtheengine.

• Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof

vapor.

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely

Starting The Engine

Aska licensedelectricianifyouare notcertain.

Ifyouhavea groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedasfollows.

Ifyoudonothavetheproperhousewiring,DONOTusetheelectric

starterunderanyconditions.

1. Plugtheextensioncordintotheoutletlocatedontheengine's

surface.Plugtheotherendofextensioncordintoa three-prong

120-volt,grounded,ACoutletina well-ventilatedarea.

2. Movethrottlecontrolto FAST(rabbit),_ position.

3. MovechokecontroltotheCHOKEposition I,,"1(co dengine

start).Ifengineis warm,placechokecontrolinRUNposition.

4. Pushprimerthree(3) times,makingsuretocoverventholewhen

pushing.If engineiswarm,pushprimeronlyonce.Alwayscover

ventholewhenpushing.Coolweathermayrequireprimingto be

repeated.

5. Pushand holdstarterbuttondownto startengine.Oncethe

enginestarts,immediatelyreleasestarterbutton.Electric

starterisequippedwiththermaloverloadprotection;systemwill

temporarilyshutdowntoallowstartertocoolifelectricstarter

becomesoverloaded.

6. Astheenginewarms,slowlyrotatethechokecontrolto RUN

position.Iftheenginefalters,restartengineand runwithchoke

controlat half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthen

slowlyrotatethechokeintoRUNposition.

7. Afterengineisrunning,disconnectpowercordfromelectric

starter.Whendisconnecting,alwaysunplugtheendatthewall

outletbeforeunpluggingtheoppositeendfromtheengine.

tion. Iftheenginefalters,restartengineand runwithchokecontrol

at half-chokepositionfora shortperiodoftime,andthenslowly

rotatethechokeintoRUNposition.

Toavoidunsupervisedengineoperation,neverleavethemachine

unattendedwiththeenginerunning.Turntheengineoff afteruseand

removeignitionkey.

Stopping The Engine

Runenginefora fewminutesbeforestoppingtohelpdryoff any

moistureontheengine.

1. MovethrottlecontroltoSTOP position.

2. Removethe key.Removingthekeywillreducethepossibilityof

unauthorizedstartingoftheenginewhileequipmentisnotinuse.

Keepthekeyina safeplace.Theenginecannotstartwithoutthe

key.

3. Wipeanymoistureawayfromthecontrolson theengine..

To Stop The Snow Thrower

1. Tostopthewheels,releasethedrivecontrol.

2. Tostopthrowingsnow,releasetheaugercontrol.

3. Tostopengine,movethrottlecontrollevertoOFF 0 andpullout

thekey.Donotturnkey.

Thetemperatureofmufflerandthe surroundingareasmayexceed

1500F.Avoidtheseareas.

Using Snow Thrower to Clear

Snow

CAUTION:Checktheareatobe clearedforforeignobjects.Remove

1. Starttheenginefollowingstartinginstructions.

2. Allowtheenginetowarmup fora fewminutesastheenginewillnot

developfullpoweruntilitreachesoperatingtemperature.

3. Rotatethechuteassemblytothedesireddirection,awayfrom

bystandersand/orbuildings.

4. Makingcertainno bystandersor obstaclesare infrontoftheunit,

squeezetheaugercontrolcompletelyagainsttheupperhandleto

fullyengagetheauger.

5. Whiletheaugercontrolisengaged,squeezethedrivecontrol

completelyagainsttheupperhandletoengagethewheels.Donot

"feather"thedrivecontrol.

6. Asthesnowthrowerstartstomove,maintaina firmholdonthe

handle,andguidethesnowthroweralongthepathto becleared.

7. Releasetheaugeranddrivecontrolstostopthesnowthrowing

actionandforwardmotion.

NOTE:Yourunitisequippedwithaclutchinthetransmission.If the

wheelsstopturningwhiletryingtodischargelargevolumesofsnow,

immediatelydisengagethedrivecontrolandallowtherotatingauger

todischargesnowfromthehousing.Reducetheclearingwidthand

continueoperation.

8. Oneachsucceedingpass,readjustthechuteassemblytothe

desiredpositionandslightlyoverlapthepreviouslyclearedpath.

Positioning Discharge Chute

Loosenthechuteknobandpivotupperchutetodesiredposition.Tighten

thechuteknobmakingsurethecarriageboltiscorrectlypositioned.

Raisingthechutethrowssnowfurther.

oncea seasonor every100hoursofoperation;replaceevery200

hoursofoperation.

Reassemblenewskidshoeswithhardwarejustremoved.Makesurethe

skidshoesareadjustedtobelevel.

Toremoveshaveplate:Removebothskidshoesandhardware

includingcarriageboltsandnutswhichattachshaveplatetothe

snowthrowerhousing.Forlocationofshaveplate,seeFigure15.

Reassemblenewshaveplate,makingsureheadsofthecarriagebolts

aretotheinsideofthehousing.Reinstallskidshoes.Tightensecurely.

Servicing Auger

Theaugerissecuredto thespiralshaftwithfourshearpinsandcotter

pins.Ifyouhita foreignobjectoricejam,thesnowthrowerisdesigned

sothatthepinsmayshear.RefertoFigure15.

Iftheaugerdoesnotturn,checkifthepinshavesheared.Replace,if

needed,withpropershearpins.RefertothePartsListinthis manual

forthecorrectpartnumber.

IMPORTANT:NEVERreplacetheaugershearpinswithstandardpins

orfasteners.Anydamagetotheaugergearboxor othercomponents,

asa resultofdoingso,willNOTbe coveredbyyoursnowthrower's

Check V=Belts

Followinstructionsbelowtocheckconditionofdrivebeltsevery50

hoursofoperation.

1. Removetheplasticbeltcoveronthefrontoftheengineby

removingtheself-tappingscrewand pressingtheplastictabsto

releasethebeltcover.

2. Visuallyinspectforfrayed,cracked,orexcessivelywornoutbelts.

Replace,ifnecessary,andfollowinstructionsbelow.

Replacing Belts

NOTE:Therearetwobeltson thissnowthrower:an augerbeltand

drivebelt.itisrecommendedthatbothbeltsbereplacedatthesame

time.

1. Removethesparkplugwirefromsparkplugandgrounditagainst

theenginetopreventaccidentalstarting.

2. Runtheengineuntilthefueltankisdrytopreventgasolineleakage

whenreplacingbelts.

Performbeltmaintenanceoutdoorsassomegasmaypossiblyleak

fromthecarburetor.

3. Removetheself-tappingscrewshownin Figure17,andpressthe

plastictabstoreleasethebeltcover.Pullthebeltcoverupand out

fromaroundtheengineandchuteassembly.Setitasideandsave.

PREPARING ENGINE

Enginesstoredover30daysneedtobedrainedoffueltoprevent

deteriorationandgumfromforminginfuelsystemor onessential

carburetorparts.If thegasolineinyourenginedeterioratesduring

storage,youmayneedto havethecarburetor,andotherfuelsystem

components,servicedor replaced.

1. Removeall fuelfromtank byrunningengineuntilitstops.Donot

attempttopourfuelfromtheengine.

2. Changetheengineoil.

3. Removesparkplugandpourapproximately1oz.(30 rnl)ofclean

engineoil intothecylinder.Pullthe recoilstarterseveraltimesto

distributetheoil,andreinstallthesparkplug.

4. Cleandebrisfromaroundengine,andunder,around,andbehind

muffler.Applya lightfilmofoilon anyareasthatare susceptible

torust.

• Storeina clean,dry andwellventilatedareaawayfromanyap-

pliancethatoperateswithaflameor pilotlight,suchasa furnace,

waterheater,or clothesdryer.Avoidanyareawitha spark

producingelectricmotor,or wherepowertoolsareoperated.

Neverstoresnowthrowerwithfuelintank indoorsor inpoorlyventi-

latedareas,wherefuelfumesmayreachan openflame,sparkor pilol

lightasona furnace,waterheater,clothesdryerorgasappliance.

• If possible,avoidstorageareaswithhighhumidity.

• Keeptheenginelevelin storage.Tiltingcancausefueloroil

leakage.

PREPARING SNOW THROWER

Whenstoringthesnowthrowerin anunventilatedormetalstor-

age shed,careshouldbetakentorustprooftheequipment.Using

a lightoilor silicone,coattheequipment,especiallyanychains,

springs,bearingsandcables.

• Removealldirt fromexteriorofengineandequipment.

• Followlubricationrecommendations.

• Storeequipmentin a clean,dryarea.

• Inflatethetirestothe maximumPSi.Referto tiresidewall.

Beforeperforminganytypeofmaintenance/service,disengageall

controlsandstoptheengine.Waituntilallmovingpartshavecometoa

completestop.Removethekeytopreventunintendedstarting.Always

wearsafetyglassesduringoperationorwhileperforminganyadjustments

Asthesmalloff-roadengineowner,youare responsibleforthe performanceofthe requiredmaintenancelistedinyourOwner'sManual.MTD

recommendsthatyouretainall yourreceiptscoveringmaintenanceson yoursmalloff-roadengine,butMTDcannotdenywarrantysolelyforthe

Thissectionappliesto 1995andlatersmalloff-roadengines.Thewarrantyperiodbeginsonthedatetheengineor equipmentisdeliveredtoan

ultimatepurchaser.

(a) GeneralEmissionsWarrantyCoverage_

MTDmustwarranttotheultimatepurchaserandeachsubsequentpurchaserthattheengineis:

(1)Designed,built,andequippedsoasto conformwithallapplicableregulationsadoptedbytheAirResourcesBoardpursuantto itsauthorityin

Chapters1and2,Part5,Division26of theHealthandSafetyCode;and

(2) Freefromdefectsin materialsandworkmanshipthatcausethefailureofa warrantedparttobeidenticalin all materialrespectstothepartas

describedin theenginemanufacturer'sapplicationforcertificationfora periodoftwoyears.

.(b)Thewarrantyonemissions-relatedpartswillbe interpretedasfollows:

(1)Anywarrantedpartthatisnotscheduledforreplacementas requiredmaintenanceinthewritteninstructionsrequiredbySubsection(c)

mustbewarrantedforthewarrantyperioddefinedinSubsection(a)(2).Ifanysuchpartfailsduringtheperiodof warrantycoverage,it mustbe

repairedor replacedbyMTDaccordingto Subsection(4)below.Anysuchpartrepairedor replacedunderthewarrantymustbewarrantedfor

theremainingwarrantyperiod.

(2)Anywarrantedpartthat isscheduledonlyfor regularinspectioninthewritteninstructionsrequiredbySubsection(c)mustbewarrantedfor

thewarrantyperioddefinedin Subsection(a)(2).A statementinsuchwritteninstructionstotheeffectof"repairor replaceasnecessary"will

notreducetheperiodofwarrantycoverage.Anysuchpartrepairedor replacedunderwarrantymustbe warrantedfortheremainingwarranty

period.

(3) Anywarrantedpartthat whichisscheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenancein thewritteninstructionsrequiredbySubsection(c)

mustbewarrantedfortheperiodoftimepriortothefirstscheduledreplacementpointforthat part.Ifthepartfailspriorto thefirstscheduled

replacement,thepartmustbe repairedor replacedbyMTDaccordingtoSubsection(4) below.Anysuchpart repairedor replacedunder

warrantymustbewarrantedfortheremainderoftheperiodpriortothefirstscheduledreplacementpointforthepart.

(4) Repairor replacementofanywarrantedpartunderthewarrantyprovisionsofthisarticlemustbe performedatnochargetotheownerata

warrantystation.

(5) Notwithstandingtheprovisionsof Subsection(4)above,warrantyservicesor repairsmustbe providedatall MTDdistributioncentersthat

arefranchisedto servicethesubjectengines.

(6)Theownermustnotbechargedfordiagnosticlaborthatleadstothedeterminationthatawarrantedpartisinfactdefective,providedthat

suchdiagnosticworkisperformedatawarrantystation.

(7)Theenginemanufacturerisliablefordamagestootherenginecomponentsproximatelycausedbyafailureunderwarrantyofanywarranted

part.

(8)Throughouttheengine'swarrantyperioddefinedinSubsection(a)(2),MTDwillmaintainasupplyofwarrantedpartssufficienttomeetthe

expecteddemandforsuchparts.

(9)Anyreplacementpartmaybeusedintheperformanceofanywarrantymaintenanceorrepairsandmustbeprovidedwithoutchargetothe

owner.SuchusewillnotreducethewarrantyobligationsofMTD.

(10)Add-onormodifiedpartsthatarenotexemptedbytheAirResourcesBoardmaynotbeused.Theuseofanynon-exemptedadd-onor

modifiedpartsshallbegroundsfordisallowingawarrantyclaimmadeinaccordancewiththisarticle.Theenginemanufacturershallnotbe

liableunderthisarticletowarrantfailuresofwarrantedpartscausedbytheuseofnon-exemptedadd-onormodifiedpart.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must

display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears Brands Management

Corporation makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is

certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-

nance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.

Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions

Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.

The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The

lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears Brands Management Corporation engines will be certified to meet the United

States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the

Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating

hours for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.

For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This isa generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

Gasolina

Utiiicegasolina para autom6viles(sin plomo obajo contenido de plomo

para minimizarlos dep6sitos en la ca.marade combusti6n) con un minimo

de 87octanos. Se puede usargasolina con hastaun 10%deetanoi o un

15%de MTBE(eter metilico terciario-butilico). Nunca useuna mezcla

de aceitey gasolina nigasolinasucia. Eviteque se introduzcasuciedad,

polvo oagua en ei dep6sito de combustible. NO utilicegasolina E85.

Cargue combustibleen un a.reabien ventiladay conel motor

apagado.No fume ni permita llamaso chispas en el lugardonde se

encendido elmotor,suelte inmediatamenteel bot6n delarrancador.

Elarrancador electrico tiene unaprotecci6n contra sobrecarga

t@mica;el sistemase apagara,transitoriamente para permitirquese

enfrie el arrancadoren caso quesesobrecargue.

6. A medida quesecalienta el motor,rote lentamenteeicontrol dei

cebador hasta la posici6n RUN(apagado). Si el motorse detiene,

3. Elimine la humedadde los controles del motor.

2. Dejeque el motor se caliente unos minutosya que el mismo no

desarrolla la potenciama.ximahastaque aicanzala temperatura de

3. Gire el conjunto del canal hacia la direcci6n deseada, lejosde

transeunteso edificios.

4. Asegurese deque no haya ningOntranseunte ni ningOnobjetoenfrente

de iaunidad, presioneel control de ia barrenacompletamentecontra

la barra superior hastaengranartotaimente ias barrenas.

5. Mientrasengranael controlde ia barrena,presioneel control de la

transmisi6ncompletamentecontra la manijasuperior para engranar

las ruedas. No pongahorizontalel control de transmisi6n.

6. A medidaque la ma.quinaquitanievecomienza a moverse,sostenga

firmemente lamanijay guiela ma.quinaa Iolargodel camino que

desea limpiar.

7. Suelteloscontroles de la barrenay latransmisi6n para que ia

ma.quinadeje de quitar nievey de desplazarsehacia delante.

I!OTA:Su unidadesta.equipada con un embrague en ia transmisi6n. Si

las ruedasse detienenmientras trata dedescargar grandesvolOmenesde

nieve,inmediatamentedesengraneel control de latransmisi6n y deje que

8. Conlas pasadassucesivasreajusteel conjuntodelcanal en laposici6n

deseaday traslapelevementela pasada que limpi6 previamente.

Afloje laperilladelcanal y gireel canal superiorhastala posici6ndeseada.

Ajuste laperilladelcanal comprobandoqueel pernodecarro esteubicado

correctamente.

Gire la manijadel canal ala posici6n de operaci6n deseada.

Consejos de operaci6n

girela tapa 1/ 4vueita hastaque este completamenteasentada.

NOTA: Enalgunos motores, un tap6n de rosca/variiia de medici6n

puedenexistir en iugarde unatapade 1/ 4vuelta comose describe

anteriormente.Eneste caso no apretarla tapa para verificarei

nivelde aceite.Simplementedescansar la tapa en las roscas para

comprobar elnivel de aceite correcto.

3. Saque eltap6n /la varilla de medici6n de aceite.Si el niveles bajo,

agreguelentamenteaceite hastaque el nivel registradoeste en un

punto intermedioentrealto (H) y bajo(L). Vea la Figura11.

4. Vueivaa colocar el tap6n /ia varilia de medici6nde aceite bien

ajustados antesde poneren marcha el motor.

Cambio de aceite del motor

NOTA:Cambieei aceite dei motordespues de ias primeras cinco horas

de funcionamientoy, en Iosucesivo, una vezportemporada ocada

cincuenta horas.

1. Vacieel combustibledei dep6sito haciendo funcionar ei motorhasta

mm).

4. Verifiqueque la arandelade la bujiaeste en buenas condiciones

y enrosquela bujia hacia adentromanualmentepara evitarquese

enrosquecruzada.

5. Unavezque la bujia esta.colocada en su lugar,aprietecon una Ilave

para bujia para comprimirla arandela.

NOTA:Cuandoinstale una bujia nueva,apriete 1/2vuelta,despuesque

la bujia se encuentracolocada en sulugar, paracomprimir laarandela.

Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de laComisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)

est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el periodo de duraci6n de ias emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears

Brands Management Corporation ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n del consumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.

Ei Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cuai se certifica que

el motor cumpie con ias reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado del mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-

aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categonas:

Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde arras se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por aSo. Por Io tanto, el Periodo

de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia sena equivaiente a entre 10 y 12 aSos.

Laciasificaci6n de aire es un nQmero calculado para describir el nivel relativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.

Cuanto menor sea la clasificaci6n de aire, mayor es la limpieza del motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma grAfica en la etiqueta

de emisiones.

Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas de

emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor

Despu6s del 1 de julio de 2000 se certificarA que determinados motores Sears Brands Management Corporation cumplen

con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambientai de los Estados Unidos (USEPA). Para

los motores certificados para la etapa 2, el periodo de cumplimiento con ias reglas de emisiones al cual se hace referencia

en la etiqueta de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones indica el nQmero de horas de funcionamiento para el cual se ha

demostrado que el motor cumple con los requerimientos federales de emisi6n.

Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.

Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o mAs, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.

El desplazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
