OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

Thisisapropane,direct-fired,forcedairheater.Itsintended

useisprimarilytemporaryheatingofbuildingsunder

construction,alterationorrepair.

Propaneisheavierthanair.Ifpropaneleaksfroma

connectionorfitting,itsinkstothefloor,collectingthere

withthesurroundingair,formingapotentiallyexplosive

mixture.Obviously,propaneleaksshouldbeavoided,soset

upthepropanesupplywithutmostcare.ReadenclosedOdor

FadeandPropaneSheetforadditionalinformationabout

detectingpropaneleaks.Leakchecknewconnectionsor

reconnectionswithasoapandwatersolutionandfollowall

connectioninstructionsherein.Also,askyourpropanedealer

foradviceonthepropaneapplicationandsupplyinstallation

andaskhimtocheckitifthereareanyquestions.

Thisheaterwasdesignedandcertifiedforuseasa

constructionheaterinaccordancewithANSIStandardZ83.7/

CGA2.14.Checkwithyourlocalfiresafetyauthorityifyou

haveanyquestionsaboutyourapplications.Otherstandards

governtheuseoffuelgasesandheatproducingproducts

inspecificapplications.Yourlocalauthoritycanadviseyou

aboutthese.

Direct-Firedmeansthatallofthecombustionproductsenter

theheatedspace.Eventhoughthisheateroperatesveryclose

to100percentcombustionefficiency,itstillproducessmall

amountsofcarbonmonoxide.Carbonmonoxide(calledCO)

istoxic.Wecantoleratesmallamountsbutnotalot.COcan

buildupinaheatedspaceandfailuretoprovideadequate

ventilationcouldresultindeath.

Thesymptomsofinadequateventilationare:

 •headache

 •dizziness

 •burningeyesandnose

 •nausea

 •drymouthorsorethroat

So,besuretofollowadviceaboutventilationinthese

operatinginstructions.

ForcedAirmeansthatablowerorfanpushestheairthrough

theheater.Propercombustiondependsuponthisairflow;

therefore,theheatermustnotberevised,modifiedor

operatedwithpartsremovedormissing.Likewise,safety

systemsmustnotbecircumventedormodifiedinorderto

operatetheheater.

Whentheheateristobeoperatedinthepresenceofother

peopletheuserisresponsibleforproperlyacquaintingthose

presentwiththesafetyprecautionsandinstructions,andof

thehazardsinvolved.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Checktheheaterthoroughlyfordamage.DONOToperatea

damagedheater.

2. DONOTmodifytheheateroroperateaheaterwhichhas

beenmodifiedfromitsoriginalcondition.

3. Useonlypropanegas.

4. UseonlyVAPORWITHDRAWALpropanesupply.Ifthereis

anyquestionaboutvaporwithdrawal,askyourpropane

dealer.

5. Mountthepropanecylindersvertically(shutoffvalveup).

Securethemfromfallingorbeingknockedoverandprotect

themfromdamage.

6. Locatepropanecontainersatleast(USA)7ft.(2.13m),

(Canada)10ft.(3m)fromtheheateranddo notdirect

exhausttowardcontainers.

7.  IMPORTANTUseonlythehoseandregulatorassembly

providedwiththeheater.Matchthecolorstripeonthe

hangtagattachedtothehoseassemblywiththecoloron

thelabellocatednearthepropaneinletfittingontheheater.

Inspecthoseassemblybeforeeachuseoftheheater.Ifthere

isexcessiveabrasionorwear,orhoseiscut,replacewithhose

assemblylistedonpartslistbeforeusingheater.

FUEL GAS ODOR

LP gas and natural gas have man-made odorants added

specifically for detection of fuel gas leaks.

If a gas leak occurs you should be able to smell the fuel

gas. Since Propane (LP) is heavier than air you should

smell for the gas odor low to the floor. ANY GAS ODOR

IS YOUR SIGNAL TO GO INTO IMMEDIATE ACTION!

• Donottakeanyactionthatcouldignitethefuelgas.Donot

operateanyelectricalswitches.Donotpullanypowersupply

orextensioncords.Donotlightmatchesoranyothersource

offlame.Donotuseyourtelephone.

• Geteveryoneoutofthebuildingandawayfromthearea

immediately.

• Closeallpropane(LP)gastankorcylinderfuelsupplyvalves,

orthemainfuelsupplyvalvelocatedatthemeterifyouuse

naturalgas.

• Propane(LP)gasisheavierthanairandmaysettleinlow

areas.Whenyouhavereasontosuspectapropaneleak,keep

outofalllowareas.

• Useyourneighbor’sphoneandcallyourfuelgassupplierand

yourfiredepartment.Donotre-enterthebuildingorarea.

• Stayoutofthebuildingandawayfromtheareauntildeclared

safebythefirefightersandyourfuelgassupplier.

• FINALLY,letthefuelgasservicepersonandthefirefighters

checkforescapedgas.Havethemairoutthebuildingand

areabeforeyoureturn.Properlytrainedservicepeoplemust

repairanyleaks,checkforfurtherleakages,andthenrelight

theapplianceforyou.

theodoroftheman-madechemicaladdedtopropane(LP)or

naturalgas.Youmustdetermineifyoucansmelltheodorant

inthesefuelgases.

• Learntorecognizetheodorofpropane(LP)gasandnatural

gas.Localpropane(LP)gasdealerswillbemorethanhappy

togiveyouascratchandsniffpamphlet.Useittobecome

familiarwiththefuelgasodor.

levels.SincePropane(LP)gasisheavierthanair,theremay

bemoreodoratlowerlevels.

• Alwaysbesensitivetotheslightestgasodor.If you

continue to detect any gas odor, no matter how small,

treat it as a serious leak. Immediately go into action as

discussed previously.

• EvenIfyouarenotproperlytrainedintheserviceandrepair

oftheheater,ALWAYSbeconsciouslyawareoftheodorsof

propane(LP)gasandnaturalgas.

• Ifyouhavenotbeenproperlytrainedinrepairandservice

ofpropane(LP)gasthendonotattempttolightheater,

performserviceorrepairs,ormakeanyadjustmentstothe

heaterorthepropane(LP)gasfuelsystem.

• Aperiodicsnifftestaroundtheheaterorattheheater’s

joints;i.e.hose,connections,etc.,isagoodsafetypractice

underanyconditions.Ifyousmellevenasmallamountof

gas,CONTACTYOURFUELGASSUPPLIERIMMEDIATELY.DO

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARING FOR OPERATION

1. Checktheheaterforpossibleshippingdamage.Ifanyis

found,immediatelynotifythefactory.

2. Followallofthe“Precautions”.

3. ConnectthePOLfittingofhoseandregulatorassembly

tothepropanecylinderbyrotatingthePOLnut

counterclockwiseintothepropanecylinder’svalveoutletand

securelytightenwithawrench.

4. Connectthehosetotheheaterbyrotatingthehosefitting

clockwise.

5. Securelytightenallgasconnections.

6. Openthecylinder’sgasvalveandcheckallgasconnections

withasoapandwatersolution.DONOTUSEAFLAME.

7. Connectpowercordtowell-grounded115V,60Hz,1Øsource

ofpower.

8. Whenusinganextensioncord,makecertainthatitisa

3-wire(grounded)cordofproperwiresize.

START

1. Slowlyopenthemainvalveatpropanecylindertoprevent

excessflowcheckvalvefromclosing.

2. Setthermostattofullon.Heaterwilligniteautomatically.

3. Adjustballvalveoncontrolpaneltodesiredburnrate.

4. Setthermostattodesiredtemperature.Heaterwillturnoff

andonautomaticallyasthetemperaturevariesintheheater

area.

STOP

1. Securelyclosevalveonthepropanecylinder.

2. Continuetooperateheateruntilallfuelinthehosehas

burned.

3. Turntheheaterthermostatto“off”.Forextendedshutdown

orinareaswherethetemperatureisbelow0°F,unplugthe

heater.

RESTART AFTER SAFETY SHUTDOWN

1. Securelyclosevalveatpropanecylinder.Unplugheater.

2. Wait5minutes.

3. Restartfollowing“Start”procedure.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

1. Theheatershouldbeinspectedbeforeeachuse,andatleast

annuallybyaqualifiedperson.

2. Beforeeachuse,checkthesoft“O”ringseatatthebullnose

ofthePOLfitting.Ifthe“O”ringiscut,scuffed,orotherwise

damaged,replaceitwithpartnumber6681.[Isthistheright

3. TurnoffthegasattheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)whenthe

heaterisnotinuse.

4. Whentheheateristobestoredindoors,theconnection

betweentheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)andtheheatermust

bedisconnectedandthecylinder(s)removedfromtheheater

andstoredoutofdoorsandinaccordancewithChapter5of

thestandardforStorageandHandlingofLiquefiedPetroleum

GasesANSI/NFPA58andCSAB149.1,NaturalGasand

PropaneInstallationCode.

SERVICING

Ahazardousconditionmayresultifaheaterisusedthathasbeen

modifiedorisnotfunctioningproperly.

Whentheheaterisworkingproperly:

• Theflameiscontainedwithintheheater.

• Theflameisessentiallybluewithperhapssomeyellow

 tipping.

• Thereisnostrongdisagreeableodor,eyeburningor

 otherphysicaldiscomfort.

• Thereisnosmokeorsootinternalorexternaltothe

 heater.

• Therearenounplannedorunexplainedshutdownsof

 theheater.

Thepartslistsandwiringdiagramshowtheheaterasitwas

constructed.Donotuseaheaterwhichisdifferentfromthat

shown.Inthisregard,useonlythehose,regulatorandcylinder

connectionfitting(calledaPOLfitting)suppliedwiththeheater.

IMPORTANTMatchthecolorstripeonthehangtagattachedto

thehoseassemblywiththecoloronthelabellocatednearthe

propaneinletfittingontheheater.Donotusealternates.Forthis

heater,theregulatormustbesetasshownin“specifications”.

Ifthereisanyuncertaintyabouttheregulatorsetting,haveit

checked.

Aheaterwhichisnotworkingrightmustberepaired,butonlyby

atrained,experiencedserviceperson.

In-warrantyproductswillberepairedwithnochargeforeither

partsorlabor.Pleaseincludeabriefstatementindicatingdate,

placeofpurchase,thenatureoftheproblemandproofof

purchase.

Out-of-warrantyproductswillberepairedwithachargeforparts

andlabor.

de3m(10pi)del’appareildechauffageetn’orientez pas

l’échappementdirectementverslesréservoirs.

ODEUR DU GAZ COMBUSTIBLE

Des additifs odorants ont été ajoutés au gaz propane

liquéfié et au gaz naturel dans le but de faciliter la

détection de fuites.

Vous devriez remarquer une odeur de gaz combustible

s’il y a une fuite. Comme le gaz propane (liquéfié)

est plus lourd que l’air, l’odeur de gaz se détecte plus

facilement près du sol. TOUTE ODEUR DE GAZ EST UN

SIGNAL QU’IL FAUT INTERVENIR IMMÉDIATEMENT !

• Neprenezaucunemesurequiprovoqueraitl’allumagedes

vapeursdegaz.N’utilisezaucuninterrupteurélectrique.Ne

tirezsuraucunesourced’alimentationélectriqueourallonge

électrique.N’allumezpasd’allumettesniaucunesourcede

flamme.N’utilisezpasvotretéléphone.

• Faitesévacuerimmédiatementtoutepersonnesetrouvant

dansl’immeuble.

• Fermeztouslesrobinetsd’alimentationduréservoirdegaz

• Porteztoujoursattentionàlamoindreodeurdegaz.Si une

OLOR A GAS COMBUSTIBLE

Los gases LP y el gas natural contienen sustancias

aromáticas artificiales añadidas específicamente para

facilitar la detección de fugas de gas.

Si se produjera una fuga de gas, usted debe poder oler

el gas combustible. Dado que el propano (LP) es más

pesado que el aire, debe tratar de detectar el olor lo más

cerca del piso posible. CUALQUIER OLOR A GAS SERÁ LA

SEÑAL PARA TOMAR MEDIDAS INMEDIATAMENTE.

• Nohaganadaquepudierainflamarelgascombustible.No

activeningúninterruptoreléctrico.Nodesconecteninguna

tomadecorrientenicablesdeextensión.Noenciendafósforos

niningunaotrafuentedellamas.Noutiliceelteléfono.

• Saqueatodaslaspersonasdeledificioyaléjelasdelárea

inmediatamente.

• Cierretodaslasválvulasdesuministrodecombustiblede

loscilindrosodeltanquedegaspropano(LP),olaválvula

principaldesuministrodecombustiblequeseencuentraenel

medidorsiempleagasnatural.

• Elaromadelgaspropano(LP)puedevariarenintensidad

adiferentesniveles.Dadoqueelgaspropano(LP)esmás

pesadoqueelaire,elolorpuedesermásintensoenlos

nivelesmásbajos.

• Manténgasesiemprealertaalmásmínimooloragas.Si

continúa percibiendo el olor a gas, no importa cuán

poco sea, proceda como si fuera una fuga grave. Tome

3. ConecteelacoplePOLdelamanguerayelconjuntodel

reguladoralcilindrodepropanorotandolatuercaPOLhacia

laizquierdadentrodelaválvuladesalidadelcilindrode

propanoyajústelaconunallave.

4. Conectelamangueraalcalentadorrotandoelacopledela

manguerahacialaderecha.

5. Aprietefuertementetodaslasconexionesdegas.

6. Abralaválvuladegasdelcilindroycompruebetodaslas

conexionesdegasconunasolucióndeaguajabonosa.NO

7. Conecteelcabledealimentaciónaunafuentedealimentación

Elcalentadorseencenderáautomáticamente.

3. Ajustelaválvuladebolaenelpaneldecontrolalatasade

consumodeseada.

4. Configureeltermostatoalatemperaturadeseada.Elcalentador

seapagaráyseencenderáautomáticamenteamedidaquela

temperaturavaríeeneláreadondeseencuentra.

APAGADO

1. Cierrefirmementelaválvuladelcilindrodepropano.

2. Continúeusandoelcalentadorhastaquetodoelcombustible

delamanguerasehayaquemado.

3. Coloqueeltermostatodelcalentadorenlaposición“off”

(apagado).Encasodequeelcalentadorvayaaestar

apagadoduranteunperíodoprolongadoosiseloutilizará

enáreasenlaquelatemperaturaseamenora-17,8°C(0°F),

desconéctelo.

REINICIO LUEGO DEL APAGADO DE SEGURIDAD

1. Cierrefirmementelaválvuladelcilindrodepropano.

Desconecteelcalentador.

2. Espere5minutos.

3. Reiniciesegúnseindicaenelprocedimientode“Encendido”.

MANTENIMIENTO Y ALMACENAMIENTO

1. Debeinspeccionarelcalentadorantesdecadausoyhacerlo

revisarporunapersonacalificadaunavezporaño.

2. Antesdecadauso,revisesiempreelasientodelanillo“O”

degomaqueseencuentraenelextremodelacopledelPOL.

Sielanillo“O”presentacortes,raspadurasocualquierotro

daño,reempláceloporlapiezanúmero6681.

3. Cierrelasalidadegasenelcilindrooloscilindrosdesuministro

degasLPcuandonoestéutilizandoelcalentador.

4. Cuandodebaguardarelcalentadorenunlugarcerrado,

deberdesconectarlaconexiónentreelcilindrooloscilindros

desuministrodegasLPyelcalentador,ydeberáretirarlos

delcalentadoryguardarlosenunlugaralairelibre,comose

especificaenelCapítulo5delosestándaresANSI/NFPA58

yCSAB149.1paraalmacenamientoymanipulacióndegases

delpetróleolíquidodelCódigodeinstalacióndepropanoy

gasnatural.

REPARACIÓN

Sepuedeproducirunasituaciónderiesgosiseutilizaun

calentadorcuyaconfiguraciónoriginalhayasidomodificadaosi

noestáfuncionandocorrectamente.

Cuandoelcalentadorfuncionacorrectamente:

• Lallamaardeenelinteriordelcalentador.

• Lallamaesfundamentalmenteazulypuedetener

algunasterminacionesamarillas.

• Nosepercibeunolordesagradablefuerte,noardenlos

ojosynohayningúnotrotipodeincomodidadfísica.

• Nohayhumonihollíndentronifueradelcalentador.

• Elcalentadornoseapagainesperadamenteo

inexplicablemente.

Laslistasdepiezasyeldiagramadelcableadomuestranla

configuraciónoriginaldelcalentador.Noutiliceuncalentadorquesea

diferentedelquesemuestra.Enestesentido,utiliceúnicamentela

manguera,elreguladoryelacopledeconexión(denominadoacople

POL)suministradosconelcalentador.IMPORTANTE:Hagacoincidir

lafranjadecolordelaetiquetacolgantequeseencuentraenel

conjuntodelamangueraconelcolordelaetiquetasituadacerca

delacopledeentradadelpropanoenelcalentador.Noutilicepiezas

alternativas.Paraestecalentador,elreguladordebeestarinstalado

comosemuestraenlasección“Especificaciones”.Sihayalgunaduda

acercadelainstalacióndelregulador,hagaquelorevisen.

Siuncalentadornofuncionacorrectamentedebeserreparado,pero

soloporuntécnicodemantenimientocapacitadoyexperimentado.

Paralosproductosengarantía,lareparaciónserealizarásincostos

depiezasnimanodeobra.Incluyaunabrevedeclaraciónindicando

lafechayellugardecompra,lanaturalezadelproblemayel

comprobantedecompra.
