trimmed hair.

OUTLINING:

Outlining requires no attachments. Comb

hair into the desired style. Position the clip-

per between the sideburns and the ear (see

below), making sure the corner edge of the

blade is against the hairline. With the outline

of the hair as your guide, slowly move the clip-

per over, around and behind the ears. For the

back of the neck and the sideburns, hold the

clipper upside down (see above) and, holding

it against the skin at the length desired, move

the clipper downward.

STOP. COMB. CHECK.

For best results, do as the professionals do:

comb hair often, and check clipping results as

you comb. This way you avoid uneven sides,

bangs, neckline, etc.

SHORT CUTS TO PERFECT

FLAT TOPS, CREW CUTS, ETC.

Always cut from the back of the neck to the

crown, using the longest comb setting.

Hold the comb attachment flat against the

head and slowly move the clipper up through

the hair. Use the same technique for the

sides, cutting from the bottom to the upper

side of the head.

For the front to the crown, cut the hair against

the direction in which it grows. Then even it

up with the sides.

For a flat top, use the flat comb, not the

attachment comb. Just cut hair on top of the

head over flat comb. (see above).

To taper hair down to the neckline, use

attachment comb #1. Comb hair and

check for uneven spots. Outline sideburns

and neck areas (see “Outlining”).

2. Using the largest

attachment comb, trim

sides from the bottom

upward. Hold clipper

lightly against the hair

with teeth of the attach-

ment comb pointing

upward, yet flat against

the head. Gradually lift

the clipper upward and

outward through the hair,

trimming just a little at a

time.

Repeat around sides

and back of head.

If you want hair to be

even shorter:

A) Apply more pressure

to the head with the

attachment comb that

is in place. This takes a

little practice, of course.

B) Just switch to a

shorter attachment

comb.

Remember, it’s better to

leave too much hair than too little. For longer

hair on top, use the barber comb and lift hair

on the top of the head, cutting over the comb.

Or hold the hair between the fingers and cut

to desired length. Always working from the

front to the back of the head, gradually cut the

hair shorter by reducing the space between

the comb or fingers and the head. Comb often

1. The hair should be combed in its

natural direction.

appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider

than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will

Your new Conair

haircut kit has everything you

need to achieve professional haircuts at home. It

features a powerful clipper with adjustable taper

control and high carbon steel blades for cutting

precision. Also included are 10 attachment combs

(1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4*", 7/8", 1" for

different hair lengths, left and right ear combs),

barber scissors, 1 styling comb with angled teeth,

barber cape, storage case, a barber comb with

straight teeth, and 3 styling clips to assist you

in cutting longer hair styles. It also comes with

lubricating oil, a cleaning brush and a blade guard

for easy maintenance of the clipper blades.

In addition, this kit includes a professional beard

and mustache trimmer with taper control, a

detachable nose/ear trimmer head, mustache

comb, 3 jaw-line combs, a 5-position attachment

comb and a hold-all stand for easy storage.

TRIMMER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pushing

in and down toward the bottom of the trimmer.

2. Align the AA batteries with the positive and negative

positions indicated inside the battery compartment.

Being careful not to bend the clips, insert the negative

end of each battery first so it will slip easily into

position.

3. Return the battery cover to its original position by

pushing it in and up until you hear a small click as

it locks into place.

4. To use your trimmer, push ON/OFF switch

upwards to ON position.

5. After you finish using your trimmer, push down

on the ON/OFF switch to turn the trimmer off.

6. For your convenience, the trimmer comes with a

storage base to hold the trimmer and accessories.

THE CONAIR GUIDE

TO CUTTING HAIR AT HOME

Before you start:

1. Inspect your clipper. Make sure it’s free of hair and dirt,

properly oiled, and running smoothly.

2. Place a towel around the neck of the person.

3. Seat the person so that his or her head is at your eye

level. This gives you greater visibility and control.

4. First, comb hair until it’s tangle-free. Then hold clipper

in a comfortable grip. Now you’re ready to cut.

MEDIUM TO LONG CUT

To begin with, cut only a small amount of hair until you

become used to the length each attachment leaves the

hair. Try the longest attachment on the clipper first. If you

want a shorter cut, you can then use shorter combs.

• Short attachment comb (number 1) cuts hair to 1/8".

2. This appliance should not be used by, on, or near

children or individuals with certain disabilities.

3. Use this appliance only for its intended purpose

as described in this manual. Do not use attach-

ments not recommended by the manufacturer. Do

not use an extension cord to operate this appli-

ance.

4. Never operate this appliance if it has a damaged

cord or plug, or if it is not working properly, if it has

been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water.

Return the appliance to a service center for exami-

nation and repair.

5. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.

6. Never drop or insert any object into any opening

tooth of the top blade.

SPECIAL OIL

To maintain the blades of your Conair

clipper, oil them after every three or four hair-

cuts. Gently place a few drops of oil on the

teeth of the blades, using the special Conair

oil included with your set. Turn the clipper on

for a minute, then turn off. This light, natural

oil was formulated specifically for the Conair

high-speed clipper. Because it is the right oil

to use, it will not slow down the blades. Never

use any other product. There is no substitute

for Conair oil.

IF YOU DETERMINE THAT BLADE

ALIGNMENT IS INCORRECT:

Conair

hair clippers are carefully inspected to

insure that the blades are in perfect alignment.

Of course you will need to realign the blades

after removal for cleaning or replacement, or

if they should be knocked out of alignment.

How can you tell if blades need realigning?

Simply match them up, point for point, to

conform with FIG. 1 below:

To prevent the clipper from contacting the

skin or cutting too closely, make certain that

the end top blade teeth are 1/32” to 1/16”

back from bottom blade.

To Align Blades:

1. Add two or three drops

of Conair Lubricating Oil

(included).

2.Turn clipper on for a min-

ute to disperse oil evenly over

blades, then turn off.

ADJUSTABLE TAPER LEVER

Just like professional clippers, the Conair

taper lever is positioned at your thumb.

You can hold the clipper in your hand and

adjust the lever at the same time...while

you’re clipping.

This taper lever eliminates the need for an

attachment comb because it lets you gradu-

ally adjust the closeness of the cut. For the

closest cut and the shortest hair, push taper

lever up as far as it will go. To increase cutting

length, slowly push lever down. If you push to

the lowest position, it will leave hair about the

same length as the short attachment.

Because a different cutting edge is used in

each setting, the taper lever lengthens the life

of your blades. Packed-in hair can slow down

any clipper. To remove hair without remov-

ing the blades, do what the professionals do:

keeping the clipper on, quickly push the taper

lever back and forth from “close” to “longer”

cut a few times.

If you do this after every clipping, especially

with heavy hair cutting, the blades should

remain free of cut hair.

If clipper stops cutting and this action

doesn’t help, check the blades. If they’ve

become dull, replace them or return them

to a Conair service center. We’ll be glad to

sharpen them for you. For new blades,

send check or money order for $6.50 (see

order blank) which includes postage and

handling (If $10 minimum is met) to:

NOTE: Never pull on the clipper cord. Never

twist or wrap the cord around the clipper. Lay

it flat with the cord coiled up when not in use.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR TRIMMER

OILING THE BLADES

About once a month you should oil the trimmer

blades with the oil provided in your kit. It is

best to do this over a piece of newspaper. Turn

the trimmer on and hold it so that the blades

are pointed downward. Spread one drop of

oil across the blades, then turn the trimmer

off and wipe away the excess oil with a soft

cloth. Be careful not to use too much oil and

don’t oil your trimmer more than necessary, as

this could damage the motor. (Never attempt

to oil the motor bearing, as it is permanently

lubricated.) After oiling the blades, return the

trimmer and oil packet to the trimmer storage

base. KEEP OIL OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

ON/OFF SWITCH

To operate, simply push slide toward blade; to

stop, push slide away from blade.

CONTORNEO

PERFECTOS CORTES CON

CORONILLAS PLANAS, CORTES

MILITARES ETC.

Siempre corte el cabello desde la parte trasera de la

nuca hacia la coronilla, usando el peine accesorio más

largo. Sostenga el peine contra la cabeza y mueva la

cortadora lentamente en el cabello hacia arriba. Use

la misma técnica para los lados, cortando desde abajo

Para una coronilla plana, use un peine plano en vez de

ACEITE ESPECIAL

Para mantener las cuchillas de su cortadora en

cortes de cabello. Aplique unas cuantas gotas de aceite

lubricante en los dientes de las cuchillas, encienda la

cortadora durante un minuto, luego apáguela. Este

aceite lubricante ligero fue específicamente diseñado

para las cortadoras de alta velocidad de Conair®.

Porque es el aceite adecuado, no reducirá la velocidad

de las cuchillas. Nunca use otro aceite para lubricar su

aparato. No hay ningún substituto al aceite de Conair.

CORTADORA PARA EL PELO

ALINEACIÓN DE LAS CUCHILLAS

Las cortadoras de Conair

son inspeccionadas para

asegurarse que las cuchillas están perfectamente

alineadas. Usted necesitará alinearlas nuevamente

después de extraerlas para limpiarlas o reemplazarlas

o si se desalinearan por un golpe. Para determinar si

las cuchillas necesitan alinearse de nuevo, simple-

mente hágalas coincidir como lo indican la FIG.1 que se

encuentra a continuación.

Para evitar que la cortadora corte el pelo demasiado

corto o que las cuchillas toquen la piel, asegúrese que

la parte superiaor de la cuchilla grande esté a una

distancia de 0.08 cm a 0.16 cm de la cuchilla pequeña.

Para alinear las cuchillas:

1. Ponga unas 2 o 3 gotas del aceite lubricante provisto en

las cuchillas.

2. Enciende la cortadora durante

un minuto para repartir el aceite

uniformemente en las cuchillas, luego

apáguelo.

3. Desconecte el aparato y afloje

ligeramente los tornillos. (Fig.2)

hacia abajo. El ajuste más largo dejará el cabello tan corto

como el peine accesorio corto.

Usar la palanca reguladora ajustable prolonga la vida útil de

las cuchillas, puesto que nunca usan el mismo ángulo para

cortar. Su cortadora puede perder velocidad si recortes de

cabello están trabados en las cuchillas. Para limpiarlas sin

tener que removerlas, siga el ejemplo de los profesionales:

3. Begin defining your beard’s shape under

your chin and work upward on each side

of your face toward your ears. Then define

the upper outline of your beard across your

cheeks, past your sideburns, and toward your

hairline.

NOW YOU'RE READY TO TRIM

YOUR BEARD

1. Your trimmer includes an accessary comb

that adjusts to five positions so you can have

a beard length from 1/8" (shortest) to 5/8"

(longest).

2. To use the 5-position comb, slide the unit

over the trimmer blades and snap it down

into position. At first, until you become familiar

with the adjustments, use the longest trim

setting (5/8"). (You can always go back and

make your beard a little shorter.)

3. Begin trimming your

beard using smooth,

even strokes. Start with

your sideburns and work

downward toward your

chin. (Never attempt to trim against the natu-

ral growth of your beard because the hair will

be cut too short.)

4. If you decide you want a closer trim, you

can now adjust the 5-position comb attach-

ment to a shorter setting (such as 1/2" or

3/8") and go over your beard again until you

achieve the desired length.

BLENDING THE JAWLINE

1. The Three Jawline Attachments will help

you to achieve a neat, finished trim under your

chin. To use one of the attachments, press it

down over the trimmer blades until it clicks

into position.

2. Hold the trim-

mer in an upright

position and begin

trimming under your jawline, using short, even

strokes.

3. After your beard is blended, turn off the

trimmer and remove the attachment by

gently pulling up on tab.

TO TRIM YOUR MUSTACHE

1. For best results, start with a clean, slightly

damp mustache.

2. Comb through your mustache in the

direction it grows.

3. Place the 5-position

comb over the trimmer

blades and snap it into

position. It is a good idea to

start with the longest trim setting adjustment.

(You can always go back and cut your mus-

tache more closely with a shorter setting.)

BLADE CARE

Because the trimmer blades are precision

made for a very special use, they should

always be handled with care. Each time you

finish using the trimmer, take the cleaning

brush provided and brush away any loose hair

that has collected in the blades. Then store

the trimmer in its storage base to protect the

blades until the next use. Be especially care-

ful when changing or adjusting blades. When

you have your trimmer serviced, be sure that

both blades are sharpened or replaced at the

same time. To promote the long life of the

appliance, use your trimmer only for the pur-

pose intended by the manufacturer – to trim

your beard and mustache.

REMOVING BLADE SET

This trimmer comes with a detachable blade

set; which makes maintenance and replace-

ment easy.

To remove the blade set:

• Make sure the trimmer is in the OFF position

• With the power switch facing you, press the

blade on the teeth and in direction away

from you until they pop out of the housing

To replace the blade set:

• Make sure the taper control is set to the

longest #1 position.

• Looking at the trimmer from above you will

see a notch at the back of the trimmer.

• There is a tab on the blade set on the

bottom, opposite the blades

Position that tab so that it fits into the notch

inside the trimmer head

Push the blade set down onto the trimmer

head until it snaps into place.

THREE POSITION TAPER CONTROL:

The Conair® trimmer taper control switch is

positioned at the back of the unit. You can

hold the trimmer in your hand and adjust the

switch as needed. The taper control elimi-

nates the need in some situations for an

attachment comb because it lets you gradu-

ally adjust the closeness of the cut. For clos-

est cut and shortest hair, push switch all the

way to level #3. To increase the cutting length,

slowly push control down to level #2 or #1 for

longer cut. Note that too much clipped hair on

the clipper can slow down its operation. To

remove it without removing the blades simply

use the enclosed cleaning brush and gently

sweep away the clipped hair from cutting

surfaces. The taper control has no function

when using the nose and ear attachment.

GROWING A BEARD AND MUSTACHE

There are three key factors that will deter-

mine which beard or mustache style is best

for you:

1. The shape and dimensions of your face.

2. The natural growth of your beard/

mustache.

3. The thickness of your beard/mustache. If

you are unsure about the type of beard or

mustache that would most suit your face,

speak with a professional hair stylist and ask

for an opinion on what style would be best.

Once your beard or mustache has been styled,

it is essential that you maintain its appear-

ance. To do this, use your trimmer to trim your

beard/mustache weekly. For the best trim-

ming results, your beard should be slightly

damp (NOT WET) when using your trimmer.

This will prevent the trimmer from removing

more hair than desired.

GETTING STARTED:

1. It is always best to begin

with a clean, slightly damp

beard.

2. After you have combed

through your beard in the

direction it grows naturally, you will want to

outline the desired shape, beginning under

your jawline.

4. After your mustache

has been trimmed to the

desired length, remove

the 5-position comb

and, using the blades

only, define the outline of the bottom of

your mustache.

USING THE NOSE AND

EAR TRIMMER ATTACHMENT

1. Make sure the trimmer on/off switch is in

the “off” position

2. Detach normal trimming blade (see

“Removing Blade Set” instructions) Similar

to attaching the normal trimming blade, look-

ing at the trimmer from above you will see a

notch at the back of the trimmer.

3. Fit the tab on the back of the nose trimmer

into the notch inside the trimmer head

4. Push the nose trimmer towards the front of

the trimmer until it snaps into place

5. Turn the on/off switch to the “on” position

6. Gently use the trimmer to trim away long

nose hairs and ear hairs being very careful

not to insert the trimmer too far into the ear or

nose. The trimmer should go no farther than

the inside edge of your nose or ear.

7. While detaching the nose/ear attachment,

make sure the power switch is facing you and

press the attachment away from you.
