this instruction manual to prevent any damage. Put it away
in a safe place for future references.
INTRODUCTION
The Wireless Adapter gives you the fl exibility to install your PC or
Notebook PC in the most convenient location available, without
the cost of running network cables.
The adapter’s auto-sensing capability allows high packet
transfer rate of up to 108Mbps for maximum throughput, or
dynamic range shifting to lower speeds due to distance or
operating limitations in an environment with a lot of
electromagnetic interference. It can also interoperate with all
11Mbps wireless (802.11b) products. Your wireless
communications are protected by up to 152-bit WEP and WPA
encryption for high security.
It adopts 2x to 3x eXtended Range WLAN transmission
technology so that transmission distance is 2-3 times of
traditional 11g/b solutions.
It adopts 108M Super G WLAN Transmission Technology, which
offers the highest throughput performance available on the
market today, link rates of up to 108Mbps. In dynamic 108M
mode, the device can attach 802.11b, 802.11g and 108Mbps
Super G devices at the same time in an integrated environment.

LED STATUS
HARDWARE INSTALLATION
1. Turn off your desktop PC and disconnect the power.
2. Open your PC case and locate an available PCI slot on the
motherboard. Remove the metal slot cover on the back of the
PC. Check with your computer manufacturer for instructions if
needed.
3. Slide the PCI Adapter into the PCI slot. Make sure that all
of its pins are touching the slot’s contacts. Once the adapter is
fi rmly in place, secure its fastening tab to your PC’s chassis with
a mounting screw. Then, close your PC case.
4. Reconnect your PC’s power and turn on your desktop PC.
SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
The Adapter’s Setup Wizard will guide you through the
Installation procedure for Windows 98Se, ME, 2000, XP. The
Setup Wizard will install the Wireless Client Utility (SWCU) and
drivers.
When you install the hardware before installing the software, the
system will prompt “Found New Hardware Wizard” window, click
Cancel, and run the Setup Wizard program on the CD-ROM.
The Setup steps for Windows 98Se, Me, 2000 and XP are very
similar. The following setup steps are for Windows 2000.
1. Insert the Resource CD into your CD-ROM drive, click Start
and choose Run. In the fi eld that appears, enter F:\XXX\Setup.
exe (if “F” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive; XXX is the setup
program path, which is labeled on the Resource CD), fi gure 1
should then appear.

2. You can click Cancel to end the installation on the
Preparing Setup screen, fi gure XXXX otherwise, the Setup
Wizard will display a screen similar to that shown in fi gure 1 after
a moment.

4. The Setup Wizard will ask you to choose a Setup type in fi gure

It is recommended that you select Install Client Utilities and
Driver. Select Install Driver Only to install driver only, select
Make Driver Installation Diskette(s) to make the diskette(s) as
the installation driver. Select Install Client Utilities and Driver and
click Next to continue the Installation. Click Back to return to the
previous page, or click Cancel to end the Installation.
5. Figure 4 should appear. Click Yes to continue the
Installation, or click No to end theInstallation.

6. Click Browse to change the destination location for the
software in fi gure 5. Click Next to continue the Installation. Click
Back to return to the previous page, or click Cancel to end the
Installation.
7. The Setup Wizard will ask you to create a new folder name or
select one from the Existing Folders list shown in fi gure 6.

It is recommended that you keep the default value. Click Next
to continue the Installation. Click Back to return to the previous
page, or click Cancel to end the Installation.
8. The Setup Wizard will notify you of how to proceed with the
installation, shown in fi gure 7. Click OK to continue the
Installation.
9. While fi les are copying, you will see a warning box, shown in
fi gure 8. Please select YES to continue installation. Our
drivers have been tested thoroughly, and are able to work with
the operating system.
In Windows XP, the warning box is similar to that shown
fi gure 9.

CONFIGURATION
After Installing the Adapter, the Adapter’s tray icon will
appear in your system tray. It appears at the bottom of the
screen, and shows the signal strength using color and the
received signal strength indication (RSSI).
If the icon is gray, there is no connection.
If the icon is red, there is poor signal strength and the
RSSI is less than 5dB.
If the icon is yellow, there is poor signal strength and the
RSSI is between 5dB and 10dB.
If the icon is green, there is good signal strength and the
RSSI is between 10dB and 20dB.
If the icon is green, there is excellent signal strength and
the RSSI is more than 20dB.
Double-click the icon and the SWCU utility will run. The
SWCU utility provides a complete and easy to use set of tools to:

CURRENT STATUS
The Current Status tab contains general information about the
program and its operations. The Current Status tab does not
require any confi gurations.
The following table describes the items found on the Current
Status screen.
Profi le Name - The name of current selected
confi guration profi le. Set up the confi guration name on
the General tab of Profi le Management.
Link Status - Shows whether the station is associated to
the wireless network.
Wireless Mode - Displays the wireless mode. Confi gure
the wireless mode on the Advanced tab of Profi le
Management.
Network Type - The type of network and the station
currently connected. The options include:
- Infrastructure (access point)
- Ad Hoc
Confi gure the network type on the Advanced tab of
Profi le Management.

IP Address - Displays the computer’s IP address.
Current Channel - Shows the currently connected
channel.
Data Encryption - Displays the encryption type the
driver is using. Confi gure the encryption type on the
Security tab of Profi le Management.

Signal Strength - Shows the strength of the signal.
PROFILE MANAGEMENT
Click the Profi le Management tab of the SWCU Utility and the
Profi le Management screen will appear, fi gure 12. The Profi le

ADD OR MODIFY A CONFIGURATION PROFILE
To add a new confi guration profi le, click New on the Profi le
Management tab. To modify a confi guration profi le, select the
confi guration from the Profi le list and click Modify.
The Profi le Management dialog box will display a screen similar
to that shown in Figure 13.
1. Edit the General tab
Profi le Name
Identifi es the confi guration profi le. This name must be
unique. Profi le names are not case-sensitive.
Client Name
Identifi es the client machine.
Network Names (SSIDs)
The IEEE 802.11 wireless network name. This fi eld has
a maximum limit of 32 characters.
2. Edit the Security tab
Edit the fi elds in the Security tab of Profi le Management to
confi gure the profi le. To defi ne the security mode, select the
radio button of the desired security mode.

WPA/WPA2 - Wi-Fi Protected Access
WPA/WPA2 Passphrase - Wi-Fi Protected Access Passphrase
802.1x - Enables 802.1x security.
Shared Key (Static WEP) - Enables the use of shared keys that
are defi ned on both the access point and the station. To defi ne
shared encryption keys, choose the Shared Key radio button and
click Confi gure to fi ll in the Defi ne Shared Keys window.
None: No security (not recommended).
If the access point that the wireless adapter is associating
to has WEP set to Optional and the client has WEP enabled,
make sure that Allow Association to Mixed Cells is checked
on the Security Tab to allow association. To complete WEP
encryption confi guration, you must select the 802.11
Authentication Mode as appropriate on the Advanced tab of
this Profi le Management dialog.

Power Save Mode
• Maximum - Selects maximum mode to let the access
point buffer incoming messages for the wireless adapter.
The adapter will detect the access point if any messages
are waiting periodically.
• Normal - In Normal mode, the adapter will be switched
to maximum mode automatically when no large packets
are retrieved.
• Off - turns power saving off, thus powering up the
wireless adapter continuously for a short message
response time.
802.11b Preamble
Specifi es the preamble setting in 802.11b. The default setting is
Short & Long (access point mode), which allows both short and
long headers in the 802.11b frames. The adapter can only use
short radio headers if the access point supports and uses them.
Set to Long Only to override allowing short frames.

Specifi es 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps, 2.4 GHz 11 Mbps, or Super G
operation in an access point network. The wireless adapter must
match the wireless mode of the access point with which it
associates
Wireless Mode when Starting an Ad Hoc Network
Specifi es Super G or 2.4 GHz 54/11 Mbps to start an Ad Hoc
network if no matching network name is found after scanning
all available modes. This mode also allows the selection of the
channel the wireless adapter uses. The channels available
depend on the regulatory domain. If the adapter fi nds no other
ad hoc adapters, the channel that the adapter starts the ad hoc
network with will be selected automatically. The wireless adapter
must match the wireless mode and channel of the clients it
associates.
802.11 Authentication Mode - Select which mode the wireless
adapter uses to authenticate to an access point:
• Automatic - causes the adapter to attempt
authentication using shared, but switches it to open
authentication if shared fails.
• Open System - enables an adapter to attempt
authentication regardless of its WEP settings. It will only
associate with the access point if the WEP keys on both
the adapter and the access point match.
• Shared-key - only allows the adapter to associate with
access points that have the same WEP key.
For infrastructure (access point) networks, click Preferred APs…
to specify up to four access points to the client adapter that
attempts to be associated to the access points.

REMOVE A PROFILE
1. Go to the Profi le Management tab.
2. Select the profi le name to remove in the Profi les List.
3. Click Remove.
SWITCH ANOTHER PROFILE
1. Go to the Profi le Management tab.
2. Click on the profi le name in the Profi les List.
3. Click Activate.
IMPORT A PROFILE
1. From the Profi le Management tab, click Import…. The Import
Profi le will then appear.
2. Browse to the directory where the profi le is located.
3. Highlight the profi le name.
4. Click Open, the imported profi le will then appear in the Profi les
List.

EXPORT A PROFILE
1. From the Profi le Management tab, highlight the profi le to
export.
2. Click Export…, the Export Profi le window will then appear.
3. Browse the directory to export the profi le to.
4. Click Save. The profi le should then be exported to the

SCAN AVAILABLE NETWORKS
1. Click Scan on the Profi le Management, the Available
Infrastructure and Ad Hoc Networks window will appear.
2. Click Refresh to refresh the list at any time.
3. Highlight a network name and click Activate to connect an
available network. If no confi guration profi le exists for that
network, the Profi le Management window will open the General
tab. Fill in the Profi le name and click OK to create the
confi guration profi le for that network.
AUTO PROFILE SELECTION MANAGEMENT
The auto selection feature allows the wireless adapter to
automatically select a profi le from the list of profi les and use it
to connect to the network. To add a new profi le into the Auto
Selected Profi les list, please follow these steps.
1. On the Profi le Management tab, click Order Profi les….
2. The Auto Profi les Selection management window will appear,
with a list of all created profi les in the Available Profi les box.
3. Highlight the profi les to add to auto profi le selection, and click
Add. The profi le will appear in the Auto Selected Profi les box.
4. Highlight a profi le in the Auto Selected Profi les box.
5. Click Move Up or Move Down as appropriate.
6. Click OK.
7. Check the Auto Select Profi les checkbox on the Profi le
Management tab.

When auto profi le selection is enabled by checking Auto
Select Profi les on the Profi le Management tab, the client
adapter will scan for an available network. The profi le with
the highest priority and the same SSID as one of the found
networks will be used to connect to the network. If the
connection fails, the client adapter will try the next highest
priority profi le that matches the SSID until an available
network is found.
DIAGNOSTICS
The Diagnostics tab of the Wireless Client Utility (SWCU)
provides buttons used to retrieve receiving and transmitting
statistics. The Diagnostics tab does not require any
confi guration.
The Diagnostics tab lists the following receive and transmit

INTRODUCCIÓN
El adaptador inalámbrico le ofrece la fl exibilidad de instalarlo en
su computadora personal o portátil, sin la necesidad de cables.
La capacidad de auto medición del adaptador le permite hacer

1.- Apague la computadora, y desconecte el cable de energía.
2.- Retire la tapa de la PC y localice una ranura PCI disponible
en la tarjeta madre. Retire la tapa de metal que cubre el puerto
PCI. Revise las instrucciones del fabricante de la computadora,
en caso de ser necesario.
3.- Coloque el adaptador PCI dentro de la ranura PCI.
Asegúrese de que todos los pines hagan contacto con la ranura.
Una vez que el adaptador está fi rmemente colocado, vuelva a
colocar el chasis de la PC.
4.- Vuelva a conectar el cable de corriente y encienda la
computadora.
INSTALACIÓN DE SOFTWARE
El asistente lo guiará a través del proceso de instalación en
Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP, e instalará los drivers y utilidades
del dispositivo.
Cuando instala el hardware antes que software, el sistema
mostrará el mensaje “ Nuevo Hardware encontrado” y se
ejecutará el asistente de nuevos dispositivos, presione Cancel y
ejecute el asistente de instalación que se localiza en el CD-ROM
incluido en el paquete. Los pasos de instalación para Windows
98Se, Me, 2000 son muy similares. Las siguientes instrucciones
son para Windows 2000.
1.- Inserte el disco de instalación en el CD-ROM, presione Inicio
y seleccione Ejecutar. En la ventana que aparece, introduzca
F:\XXX\Setup.exe, donde F es la letra que corresponde a su
CD-ROM, XXX es la dirección donde se encuentra el fólder que
contiene Setup.Exe, el cual viene impreso en la cubierta del
disco de instalación, la siguiente imagen se muestra:

2.- Presione Cancel para terminar la instalación en la pantalla
previa de Preparación, como se muestra en la fi gura 1, el
asistente de instalación mostrará una pantalla similar que se
muestra en la siguiente imagen.

4.- El asistente de instalación le pedirá seleccionar un tipo de
instalación
Se recomienda que seleccione Install Cliente Utilities and Driver.
Seleccione Install driver only para instalar únicamente el driver,
o seleccione Make Driver Installation Diskette(s) para realizar un
diskette como ejecutable que contiene el driver de instalación.
Seleccione Install Cliente Utilities and Driver y presione Next
para continuar con la instalación. Seleccione Back para regresar

5.- La imagen 4 debe aparecer. Presione Yes para continuar con

instalará el software (Fig. 5) Presione Next para continuar con la

7.- El asistente de instalación le preguntará si desea crear una
nueva carpeta o seleccionar una de las ya existentes, que se
muestra en una lista (Fig. 6)

Presione Next para continuar con la instalación. Presione Back
para regresar a la pantalla anterior o seleccione Cancel para

8.- El asistente le notifi cará cómo proceder con la instalación,
como se muestra en la fi gura 7. Presione OK para continuar con
la instalación.
9.- Mientras los archivos se están copiando, se mostrará un
mensaje de advertencia... (Fig. 8) Presione YES para continuar
la instalación. Nuestros drivers han sido probados
rigurosamente, y están listos para funcionar con el sistema
operativo.

CONFIGURACIÓN
Después de instalar el Adaptador, un ícono se mostrará en
la barra de tareas. Este ícono indicará la intensidad de señal
de acuerdo a un color y la fuerza en que se recibe una señal
(RSSI).
Si el ícono es gris, no hay conexión.
Si el ícono es rojo, hay una señal pobre y el RSSI es
menor a 5dB
Si el ícono es amarillo, hay una señal pobre y el RSSI
se encuentra entre 5dB y 10dB
Si el ícono es verde, hay una buena señal y el RSSI se
encuentre entre 10dB y 20dB
Si el ícono es verde, hay una excelente señal y el RSSI
es mayor a 20dB
Presione dos veces sobre el ícono y la utilidad SWCU se
ejecutará. La utilidad le ofrece una serie de herramientas fáciles
de utilizar:

ESTADO ACTUAL (Current Status)
Esta opción contiene información general acerca del programa y
su operación. La opción no requiere de ninguna confi guración.
A continuación se hace una descripción de las opciones que se
encuentran en la pantalla de Estado Actual.
- Profi le Name: Muestra el nombre del perfi l actual
seleccionado. Para confi gurar el nombre presione sobre
la opción General en Profi le Management.
- Link Status: Muestra si la estación está asociada a la
red inalámbrica.
- Wireless Mode: Muestra el modo inalámbrico. Para
confi gurar esta opción, presione sobre la opción
Advanced en Profi le Management.
- Network type: Despliega información del tipo de red a
la cuál se está conectado. Las opciones incluye:
o Infraestructura (access point)
o Ad Hoc
Confi gure esta opción en Advanced, Profi le Management.

- IP Address: Muestra la dirección IP de la computadora
- Current Channel: Muestra el canal actual de conexión
- Data encryption: Indica el tipo de encriptación que
el driver está utilizando. Para confi gurar el tipo de
encriptado, seleccione la opción Security en Profi le
Management.
- Server Based Authentication: Muestra el tipo de
autentifi cación utilizado
- Signal strength: Indica la intensidad de la señal

AGREGAR O MODIFICAR LA CONFIGURACIÓN
DE UN PERFIL
Para agregar una nueva confi guración de perfi l, presione New
en la opción de Gestión de Perfi les. Para modifi car la
confi guración de un perfi l, seleccione la confi guración de la lista
de perfi les y presione Modify.
Una pantalla se desplegará:
1.- Edición de la opción General
Nombre de perfi l
Identifi ca la confi guración del perfi l. Este nombre debe
ser único.
Nombre de cliente
Identifi ca al computadora de cliente
Nombre de redes (SSIDs)
Muestra el nombre de la red inalámbrica IEEE 802.11.
Este campo tiene un límite máximo de 32 caracteres.
2.- Edición de la opción de Seguridad
Permite editar los campos en la opción de Seguridad para
confi gurar un perfi l. Para defi nir el modo de seguridad,
seleccione el botón del modo de seguridad deseado.

802.1x – Activa la seguridad 802.1x
Llave compartida (WEP estática) – Activa el uso de
llaves compartidas que son defi nidas tanto en el access
point como en la estación. Para defi nir las llaves
encriptadas compartidas, seleccione el botón de Shared
Key y presione el botón de Confi gure para completar la
ventana de Defi ne Shared Keys.
Ninguna (None)- No existe seguridad alguna (no
recomendado)
Si el access point que el adaptador inalámbrico está
asociando tiene la opción WEP como opcional y el cliente la
tiene activada, asegúrese de que la opción Allow
Association to Mixed Cell localizada en la barra de
Seguridad esté seleccionada. Para completar la
confi guración de encriptación WEP, deberá seleccionar
802.11 Authentication Mode.

Modo de ahorro de energía
Máximo – Seleccione el modo máximo para dejar que
entren mensajes del adaptador inalámbrico al búfer del
access point.
Normal – En modo normal, el adaptador cambiará
al modo máximo automáticamente cuando no hay
paquetes grandes que puedan ser obtenidos.
Apagado – Desactiva la función de ahorro de energía
Introducción 802.11b
Especifi ca el ajuste de introducción en 802.11b. El ajuste
predeterminado es Corto y Largo (modo de access point), que
permite encabezados largos y cortos en frames 802.11b. El
adaptador solo puede utilizar encabezados cortos si el access
point los soporta y los utiliza.
Modo inalámbrico
Especifi ca la operación de 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps, 2.4 GHz 11 Mbps,
o Super G en una red access point. El adaptador inalámbrico
debe coincidir con el modo inalámbrico del access point con el
que está asociado.

Modo inalámbrico cuando se inicia una red Ad Hoc
Especifi ca Super G o 2.4 GHz 54/11 Mbps para iniciar una red
ad hoc si no coincide con el nombre de red después de buscar
por todos los modos disponibles. Este modo también permite
la selección de canal que utiliza el adaptador inalámbrico. Los
canales disponibles dependen del dominio de regulación. Si el
adaptador no encuentra otros adaptadores ad hoc, esta
selección especifi ca cuál canal inicia el adaptador con la red ad
hoc. El adaptador inalámbrico debe coincidir con el modo
inalámbrico y el canal del cliente con el que está asociado.
Modo de autentifi cación 802.11
Selecciona que modo de autentifi cación utiliza el adaptador
inalámbrico con un access point:
Automático- provoca que el adaptador intente la
autentifi cación utilizando Compartido, pero cambia a
autentifi cación Abierta si el Compartido falla.
Sistema abierto - activa un adaptador para intentar la
autentifi cación sin importar los ajustes WEP. únicamente
se asociará con el access point si los parámetros Wep
en el adaptador y el access point coinciden.
Llave compartida – únicamente permite que el
adaptador se asocie con el access point que tenga la
misma llave WEP.

Para access point , presione Preferred APs… para especifi car
hasta 4 access points al cliente adaptador que intente asociarse
con los access points.
BORRAR UN PERFIL
1.- Vaya a la barra de Administración de perfi les (Profi le
Management).
2.- Seleccione el perfi l que desee borrar de Lista de Perfi les.
3.- Presione Remove.
CAMBIAR A OTRO PERFIL
1.- Vaya a la barra de Administración de perfi les (Profi le
Management).
2.- Presione sobre el nombre del perfi l en la Lista de Perfi les
3.- Presione Activate.
IMPORTAR UN PERFIL
1.- Desde la barra de Administración de Perfi les, presione
Import... La opción de Importa Perfi l aparece.
2.- Busque el directorio donde se encuentra el perfi l que desea
utilizar.
3.- Seleccione el nombre del perfi l.
4.- Presione Open, el perfi l importado aparecerá en la Lista de
Perfi les.

EXPORTAR UN PERFIL
1.- Desde la barra de Administración de Perfi les, seleccione el
perfi l que desea exportar.
2.- Presione el botón Export... la ventana de Exportación de
Perfi l aparecen.
3.- Busque el directorio donde desea guardar el perfi l exportado.
4.- Presione Save. El perfi l deberá ser exportado a la dirección
especifi cada.
BÚSQUEDA DE REDES DISPONIBLES
1.- Presione Scan en la barra de Administración de Perfi les, las
redes Ad Hoc y access point disponibles aparecerán en una
ventana.
2.- Presione Refresh para actualizar la lista cada cierto tiempo.

3.- Seleccione una red y presione Activate para conectarse a
esa red. Si no existe una confi guración de perfi l para esa red,
se abrirá la opción de General. Introduzca un nombre de Perfi l y
presione OK para crear una confi guración de perfi l para esa red.
ADMINISTRACIÓN DE AUTO SELECCIÓN DE
PERFILES
Esta función permite seleccionar al adaptador inalámbrico un
perfi l de la lista de Perfi les y utilizarlo para conectarse a la red.
Para agregar un nuevo perfi l dentro de esta lista, siga estos
pasos:
1.- En la barra de Administración, presione Order Profi les...
2.- El administrador de auto selección de perfi les se muestra en
pantalla, con una lista de todos los perfi les creados en la opción
de Perfi les Disponibles.
3.- Seleccione los perfi les que desee agregar a la selección de
perfi les automáticos, y presione Add. The perfi l aparecerá en la
opción de Perfi les Auto Seleccionados.
4.- Seleccione un perfi l de esta lista.
5.- Presione Move Up o Move Down como sea necesario.
6.- Presione OK.
7.- Revise la opción de Perfi le Auto Seleccionados en la barra
de Administración de Perfi les.

Cuando la selección de perfi l automático está activado
por la opción de Auto Selección de Perfi les en la barra el
Administración de Perfi les, el adaptador cliente buscará
por todas las redes disponibles. El perfi l con la prioridad
más alta y el SSID encontrados serán los utilizados para
conectarse a la red. Si la conexión falla, el cliente adaptador
intentará el siguiente perfi l en prioridad que coincida con el
SSID hasta que encuentre una red disponible.
DIAGNÓSTICOS
La barra de Diagnósticos provee botones que son utilizados
para recibir y enviar estadísticas. Esta barra no requiere de
ninguna confi guración.
Le muestra la siguiente información enviada o transmitida por el
transmisor inalámbrico:
Frames multicast enviados y recibidos
Frames broadcast enviados y recibidos
Frames unicast enviados y recibidos
Número total de bytes enviados y recibidos
REVISAR INFORMACIÓN DEL DRIVER
Esta opción contiene información general acerca de la interfase
de la tarjeta de red (adaptador inalámbrico) y especifi caciones
de interfase del driver de la red (NDIS). Acceda a la información
del adaptador desde la barra de Diagnóstico.
