Your new digital blood pressure monitor uses the oscillometric method
of blood pressure measurement. This means the monitor detects your
blood’s movement through your brachial artery and converts the
movements into a digital reading. The monitor stores measurement
results.
The HEM-711AC comes with the following components:

This device is intended for use in measuring blood pressure and
pulse rate in the adult population. Do not use this device on infants
or persons who cannot express their intentions.

OPERATING THE DEVICE (continued)
Read the Special Conditions section (page 27) of the instruction
manual if your systolic pressure is known to be more than 220
mmHg. Inflating to a higher pressure than necessary may result in
bruising where the cuff is applied.
Operate the device only as intended. Do not use the device for any
other purpose.
Dispose of the device, components and optional accessories accord-
ing to applicable local regulations. Unlawful disposal may cause
environmental pollution.
Do not use a cellular phone near the device. It may result in an
operational failure.
Use only Omron authorized parts and accessories. Parts and
accessories not approved for use with the device may damage the
unit.
Use only 1.5V manganese or alkaline batteries with this device. Do
not use other types of batteries. This may damage the unit.

Store the device and the components in a clean, safe location.
Changes or modification not approved by Omron Healthcare will

BEFORE TAKING A MEASUREMENT
To ensure a reliable reading follow these recommendations:
1. Avoid eating, drinking alcohol, smoking, exercising, and bathing for
30 minutes before taking a measurement. Rest for at least 15 minutes
before taking the measurement.
2. Stress raises blood pressure. Avoid taking measurements during
stressful times.
3. Measurements should be taken in a quiet place.
4. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your arm.
5. Sit on a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on
a table so that the cuff is at the same level as your heart.
6. Remain still and do not talk during the measurement.
7. Keep a record of your blood pressure and pulse readings for your
physician. A single measurement does not provide an accurate
indication of your true blood pressure. You need to take and record
several readings over a period of time. Try to measure your blood
pressure at about the same time each day for consistency.
8. Wait 2-3 minutes between measurements. The wait time allows the
arteries to return to the condition prior to taking the blood pressure
measurement. You may need to increase the wait time depending on
your individual physiological characteristics.

IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT SYMBOL( )
When the monitor detects an irregular rhythm two or more times during
the measurement, the Irregular Heartbeat Symbol ( ) will appear on
the display with the measurement values.
An irregular heartbeat rhythm is defined
as a rhythm that is more than 25% slower
or 25% faster than the average rhythm
detected while the monitor is measuring
the systolic blood pressure and the
diastolic blood pressure.
If the irregular heartbeat symbol ( )
displays with your measurement results,
we recommend you consult your
physician. Follow the directions of your
doctor.
MOVEMENT ERROR SYMBOL( )
The Movement Error Symbol ( ) is displayed if you move your body
during the measurement. Please remove the arm cuff, wait 2-3 minutes,
reapply the arm cuff, then take another measurement.
AVERAGE VALUE SYMBOL ( )
The Average Value Symbol ( ) is displayed when you press the
MEMORY button. The most recent average reading appears on the
display screen.

The American Heart Association recommends the following guideline
for upper limit of normal for home blood pressure readings:
AHA Home Guideline for Upper Limit of Normal BP
Systolic Blood Pressure 135 mmHg
Diastolic Blood Pressure 85 mmHg
This is a general guideline because blood pressure depends on age
and morbidity. The AHA recommends a lower home blood pressure
goal for certain patients, including diabetic patients, pregnant women,
and patients with renal failure

The monitor is not intended to be a diagnostic device.

HEARTBEAT SYMBOL/HYPERTENSION INDICATOR ( )
TAKING A MEASUREMENT
The Heartbeat Symbol flashes on the display during
the measurement.
The Heartbeat Symbol flashes at every heartbeat.
When the measurement is complete, the Heartbeat Symbol
flashes on the display with your blood pressure and pulse rate if
the reading is above 135 for the Systolic Blood Pressure value
and/or 85 for the Diastolic Blood Pressure value.
USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION
The Heartbeat Symbol flashes when the blood pressure reading
stored in the memory is above 135 for the Systolic Blood
Pressure value and/or 85 for the Diastolic Blood Pressure value.
Omron Healthcare recommends you contact your physician if the
HEARTBEAT SYMBOL appears on the display with your measurement
values.

1. Press the ▼ indicator on the battery cover
and slide the cover off in the direction of
the arrow.
2. Install 4 “AA” size batteries so the +
(positive) and - (negative) polarities match
the polarities of the battery compartment
as indicated.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT
When the Low Battery Indicator appears on the display screen turn the
monitor off and remove all the batteries. Replace with four new batteries
at the same time. Longlife alkaline batteries are recommended.
CAUTION
If battery fluid should get in your eyes, immediately rinse with
plenty of clean water. Contact a physician immediately.
NOTES: • Turn the unit off before replacing the batteries. If the
batteries are removed while the unit is still on, the date and
time will be reset to that of the previous use. However, the
measurement results are not deleted.
• When the batteries are replaced, you may need to reset the
date and time. If the year is flashing on the display screen,
refer to “Resetting the Date and Time” on page 20.

NOTES: • Use only the authorized Omron AC Adapter that came with
this monitor.
• We recommend you install the batteries even if the AC
Adapter is used. If no batteries are installed, you may need
to reset the date and time if the AC Adapter is disconnected.
The measurement results will not be deleted.

TO CONNECT THE AC ADAPTER

into the AC Adapter Jack on
the back side of the monitor
as illustrated.
Plug the AC Adapter into a
120V AC outlet (60 cycles).
TO DISCONNECT THE AC ADAPTER
Hold and pull the Housing to remove the AC Adapter from the
electrical outlet. Do not remove by pulling on the cord.
Remove the AC Adapter plug from the monitor.

Do not plug or unplug the power cord into the electrical outlet with
wet hands.

Set the monitor to the current date and time before taking a
measurement for the first time. If the date and time are not set correctly,
the measurement values stored in the memory and the average values
may not be correct.
The Blood Pressure Monitor automatically stores up to 60 individual
measurement values with the dates and times.
The monitor can also calculate an average reading based on the three
most recent measurements taken within 10 minutes of the last reading.
NOTES: • If only two readings are stored in the memory for the 10-
minute period, the average is based on the two readings.
• If one reading is stored in the memory for the 10-minute
period, this reading is displayed as the average.

To adjust the date or time after it has been setup when you first use the
unit:
Start with the monitor in the off position.
1. Press and hold the Date/Time
Setting button.
The year flashes on the display.
2. Follow the instruction from step 2 on page 18.
NOTE: If you need to change the Date and Time,
always adjust the Date and Time setting before taking
the next measurement.

APPLYING THE CUFF ON THE LEFTARM
1. Make sure the air plug is securely inserted in the main unit.
2. Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper left arm.

3. Apply the cuff to your left upper arm so the blue arrow is centered on
the inside of your arm and aligned with your middle finger. The air
tube runs down the inside of your arm. The bottom of the cuff should
be approximately 1/2" above your elbow.
4. Wrap the cuff firmly in place around your arm using the closure strip.

APPLYING THE CUFF ON THE RIGHTARM
When taking a measurement using the right arm use this instruction
for Step 4 on page 22.
Apply the cuff to your right upper arm so the blue arrow and the air tube
runs along the inside of your elbow. The bottom of the cuff should be
approximately 1/2'' above your elbow.
NOTE: Be careful not to rest your arm on the air tube. This will restrict
the flow of air to the cuff.

The monitor automatically determines your ideal inflation level. In rare
circumstances when a higher inflation may be necessary, the monitor
automatically re-inflates the cuff up to 30 mmHg higher than the initial
inflation and restarts the measurement.
CAUTION
Operate the device only as intended. Do not use the device for any
other purpose.
1. Sit on a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Place your left arm on a
table so the cuff is level with your heart.

2. Press the START/STOP button.
All symbols appear on the display.
The cuff starts to inflate automatically. As the cuff inflates, the
monitor automatically determines your ideal inflation level. This
monitor detects the pulse during inflation. Do not move your arm and
remain still until the entire measurement process is completed.
NOTE: To stop the inflation or measurement, press the START/STOP
button. The monitor will stop inflating, start deflating and turn
off.
3. Inflation stops automatically and the measurement is started.
As the cuff deflates, decreasing numbers appear on the display. The
Heartbeat Symbol ( ) flashes at every heartbeat.

4. When the measurement is complete, the arm cuff
completely deflates. Your blood pressure and pulse
rate are displayed.
5. Press the START/STOP button to turn
the monitor off.
NOTE: The monitor will automatically
turn off after five minutes.

the display with your blood pressure and pulse rate if the reading is
above 135 for the Systolic Blood Pressure value and/or 85 for the
Diastolic Blood Pressure value.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
CAUTION
Inflating to a higher pressure than necessary may result in bruising
where the cuff is applied.
If your systolic pressure is known to be more than 220 mmHg, press
and hold the START/STOP button until the monitor inflates 30 to 40
mmHg higher than your expected systolic pressure.
NOTES: • Do not apply more pressure than necessary.
• The monitor will not inflate above 299 mmHg.
When the measurement is complete, the arm cuff completely deflates.
Your blood pressure and pulse rate are displayed.

The monitor is designed to store the blood pressure and the pulse rate in
the memory every time a measurement is completed.
The monitor automatically stores up to 60 sets of measurement values
(blood pressure and pulse rate). When 60 sets of measurement values are
stored, the oldest record is deleted to save the most recent values.
AVERAGING FUNCTION
The monitor calculates the average reading based on the three most
recent sets of measurement values taken within 10 minutes of the most
recent reading.
NOTE: If two sets of measurement values are stored in the memory for
the 10 minutes period, the average is based on the two sets of
measurement value. If one set of measurement values is stored,
this is displayed as the average.

The Average Symbol ( ) appears on the display when the average
reading is shown.

measurement values on the screen. The values are displayed from the
most recent to the oldest.
NOTES: • The date and time are alternately displayed with the
measurement values.
• Press the MEMORY button to display the next set of values.
• Press and hold the MEMORY button to display the values
faster.

USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION
TO DELETE ALLVALUES STORED IN THE MEMORY
You cannot partially delete values stored in the memory. All values will
be deleted.
1. First press the MEMORY button. While holding it down, press the
START/STOP button together for more than 2 seconds. All values
will be deleted.
2. Press the START/STOP button to turn the monitor off.
NOTE: The monitor will automatically turn off after 5 minutes.

To keep your digital blood pressure monitor in the best condition and
protect the unit from damage, follow the directions listed below:
Keep the monitor in the storage case when not
in use. Make sure the AC Adapter is placed
under the main unit so that is does not
damage the display. Avoid kinking or sharply
bending the AC Adapter cord.
Do not forcefully bend the arm cuff or air tube. Do not fold tightly.
Clean the monitor with a soft dry cloth. Do not use any abrasive or
volatile cleaners. Do not attempt to clean the cuff.
CAUTION
Do not submerge the device or any of the components in water. Do
not subject the monitor to extreme hot or cold temperatures,
humidity or direct sunlight.

Remove the batteries if the unit will not be used for three months or
longer. Always replace all the batteries with new ones at the same time.
Use the unit consistent with the instruction provided in this manual.

free from defects in materials and workmanship appearing within one year from
the date of purchase when the monitor is used in accordance with the instructions
provided with the monitor. The above warranties extend only to the
original retail purchaser.
We will, at our option, repair or replace without charge any monitor or arm cuff
covered by the above warranties. Repair or replacement is our only
responsibility and your only remedy under the above warranties.

Su nuevo monitor de presión sanguínea digital usa el método
oscilométrico para la medición de la presión sanguínea. Esto significa

instrucciones si le consta que su presión sistólica es superior a los 220
mmHg. Inflar el dispositivo a una presión más alta que la necesaria
puede provocar magulladuras en el lugar donde se aplica el brazalete.
Sólo haga funcionar el dispositivo para el fin para el que está
diseñado. No use el dispositivo para ningún otro fin.
Respete las normas locales aplicables al desechar el dispositivo, los
componentes y los accesorios opcionales. Violar las normas
establecidas para su eliminación puede provocar contaminación
ambiental.
No use teléfonos celulares cerca del dispositivo. Puede provocar fallas
de funcionamiento.
Use sólo las piezas y accesorios autorizados por Omron. Las piezas y

Utilice únicamente pilas de manganeso o alcalinas de 1.5V en este

ANTES DE TOMAR UNA MEDICIÓN
A fin de garantizar una lectura confiable, siga las recomendaciones
que se enumeran a continuación:
1. Evite comer, tomar bebidas alcohólicas, fumar, hacer ejercicio y
bañarse durante 30 minutos antes de tomar una medición.
Descanse durante al menos 15 minutos antes de tomar la medición.
2. El estrés eleva la presión arterial. Evite tomar mediciones en
momentos de estrés.
3. Las mediciones se deben llevar a cabo en un lugar tranquilo.
4. Retire la ropa ajustada del brazo.
5. Siéntese en una silla con los pies apoyados sobre el piso. Coloque el
brazo sobre una mesa, de modo que el brazalete quede al mismo nivel
que el corazón.
6. Quédese quieto y no hable durante la medición.
7. Lleve un registro de las lecturas de presión sanguínea y pulso para
que las vea su médico. Una sola medición no brinda una indicación
precisa de su verdadera presión sanguínea. Es necesario tomar varias
mediciones y registrarlas durante un período de tiempo. Trate de
medir su presión sanguínea todos los días a la misma hora para
obtener mediciones consistentes.
8. Espere 2-3 minutos entre cada medición. El tiempo de espera permite
que las arterias vuelvan a la condición en la que estaban antes de
tomar la medición de la presión. Es posible que sea necesario
aumentar el tiempo de espera según sus características fisiológicas
particulares.

Cuando el monitor detecta un ritmo irregular dos o más veces durante la
medición, aparecerá en la pantalla el símbolo de latido irregular ( )
con los valores de medición.
El latido irregular se define como un
ritmo que es más del 25% más lento o
más del 25% más rápido que el ritmo
promedio que se detecta mientras el
monitor mide la presión sanguínea
sistólica y diastólica.
Si se muestra el símbolo de latido
irregular ( ) con los resultados de su
medición, le recomendamos que consulte
a su médico. Siga las instrucciones del
médico.

El símbolo de error de movimiento ( ) aparece si usted se mueve
mientras se realiza la medición. Quite el brazalete, espere 2-3 minutos,

La Asociación Estadounidense del Corazón (AHA, por sus siglas en
inglés) recomienda los siguientes valores como límite máximo de una
lectura normal de presión sanguínea tomada en el hogar:
Pautas de la AHA para la medición de la presión
sanguínea normal máxima en el hogar
Presión sanguínea sistólica 135 mmHg
Presión sanguínea diastólica 85 mmHg
Esta es una pauta general dado que la presión sanguínea depende de la
edad y el estado de salud de la persona. La AHA recomienda tomar
como objetivo de la medición de la presión sanguínea en el hogar sea
inferior en ciertos pacientes, como los pacientes diabéticos, las
mujeres embarazadas y los pacientes con insuficiencia renal

.
El monitor no está diseñado para ser utilizado como dispositivo de
diagnóstico.

CÓMO TOMAR UNA MEDICIÓN
El símbolo de corazón parpadea en la pantalla durante la medición.
El símbolo de corazón parpadea ante cada latido del corazón.
Una vez que se completa la medición, el símbolo de latido
parpadea en la pantalla junto con la presión sanguínea y el pulso si
la lectura es superior a 135 para el valor de la presión sanguínea
sistólica y/u 85 para el valor de la presión sanguínea diastólica.
USO DE LA FUNCIÓN MEMORIA
El símbolo de latido parpadea cuando la lectura de la presión
sanguínea almacenada en la memoria es superior a 135 para el valor
de la presión sanguínea sistólica y/u 85 para el valor de la presión
sanguínea diastólica.
Si el SÍMBOLO DE LATIDO aparece en la pantalla junto con los valores
de medición, Omron Healthcare recomienda que consulte a su médico.

1. Presione el indicador ▼ que aparece en la

deslice la cubierta en la dirección que

CAMBIO DE LAS PILAS
Cuando el indicador de batería baja aparezca en la pantalla, apague el
monitor y retire todas las pilas. Coloque las cuatro pilas nuevas al
mismo tiempo. Se recomienda usar pilas alcalinas de larga duración.
PRECAUCIÓN
En caso de que el fluido de las pilas entre en contacto con los ojos,
enjuague de inmediato con abundante agua limpia. Consulte
inmediatamente a un médico.
NOTAS: • Apague la unidad antes de cambiar las pilas. Si las pilas se
retiran mientras la unidad está encendida, la fecha y hora se
reconfigurarán en base a los datos anteriores. Sin embargo,
los resultados de la medición no se borran.
• Al cambiar las pilas, es posible que deba volver a configurar
la fecha y hora. Si el año parpadea en la pantalla, consulte
“Reconfiguración de la fecha y hora”, en la página 20.

Configure el monitor con la fecha y hora actuales antes de tomar una
medición por primera vez. Si no se configuran la fecha y la hora
correctamente, es posible que los valores de medición y los valores
promedio no se guarden correctamente en la memoria.
El monitor de presión sanguínea guarda automáticamente hasta 60
valores de medición individuales con las fechas y horas
correspondientes.
El monitor también puede calcular una lectura promedio basada en las
tres mediciones más recientes que se tomaron dentro de un período de
10 minutos a partir de la última lectura.
NOTAS: • Si sólo se guardan dos lecturas en la memoria para el
período de 10 minutos, el promedio se basa en las dos
lecturas.
• Si se almacena una lectura en la memoria durante el período
de 10 minutos, esta lectura se muestra como el promedio.

4. Coloque el brazalete de modo que quede bien envuelta alrededor del
brazo usando la correa de cierre.

Cuando se toma una medición en el brazo derecho, use estas
instrucciones para el paso 4 de la página 22.
Coloque la brazalete en la parte superior del brazo derecho de modo que
la flecha azul y el tubo de aire queden en la parte interna del brazo. La
parte inferior de la brazalete debe quedar aproximadamente a 1/2” (1-2
cm) por encima del codo.
NOTA: Tenga cuidado de no apoyar el brazo sobre el tubo de aire. Esto
impedirá el flujo de aire hacia la brazalete.

El monitor determina automáticamente el nivel de inflado ideal. Rara
vez, cuando pueda ser necesario un mayor inflado, el monitor vuelve a
inflar automáticamente el brazalete hasta 30 mmHg más que el inflado
inicial y vuelve a tomar la medición.
PRECAUCIÓN
Sólo haga funcionar el dispositivo para el fin para el que está
diseñado. No use el dispositivo para ningún otro fin.
1. Siéntese en una silla con los pies apoyados sobre el piso. Coloque
el brazo en una mesa de modo que el brazalete quede al mismo nivel
que el corazón.

2. Presione el botón START/STOP (inicio/detener).
Todos los símbolos aparecen en la pantalla.
El brazalete comienza a inflarse automáticamente. A medida que el
brazalete empieza a inflarse, el monitor determinará automáticamente
el nivel de inflado óptimo. Este monitor detecta el pulso durante el
inflado. No mueva el brazo y quédese quieto hasta que finalice el
proceso de medición.
NOTA: Para detener el inflado o la medición, presione el botón
START/STOP (inicio/detener). El monitor dejará de inflarse,
comenzará a desinflarse y se apagará.
3. El inflado se detiene automáticamente y se inicia la medición.
A medida que el brazalete se desinfla, aparecen números en pantalla
en orden decreciente. El símbolo de corazón ( ) parpadea ante
cada latido del corazón.

4. Una vez que se haya completado la medición, el
brazalete se desinfla por completo. Aparecen la
presión sanguínea y el pulso.
5. Presione el botón START/STOP
(inicio/detener) para apagar el monitor.

Una vez que se complete la medición, el símbolo de latido parpadea
en la pantalla junto con la presión sanguínea y el pulso si la lectura es
superior a 135 para el valor de la presión sanguínea sistólica y/u 85

El inflar el dispositivo a una presión más alta que la necesaria puede
provocar magulladuras en el lugar donde se aplique el brazalete.
Si le consta que su presión sistólica es mayor a 220 mmHg, presione
y mantenga presionado el botón START/STOP (inicio/detener) hasta
que el monitor se infle de 30 a 40 mmHg más que su presión sistólica
esperada.
NOTAS: • No aplique más presión de la necesaria.
• El monitor no se infla a más de 299 mmHg.
Una vez que se haya completado la medición, el brazalete se desinfla
por completo. Aparecen la presión sanguínea y el pulso.

El monitor ha sido diseñado para almacenar la presión sanguínea y el
pulso en la memoria cada vez que se complete una medición.
El monitor almacena automáticamente hasta 60 conjuntos de valores
de medición (presión sanguínea y pulso). Una vez almacenados 60
conjuntos de valores de medición en la memoria, el registro más antiguo
se borrará para guardar los valores de medición más recientes.
FUNCIÓN DE PROMEDIO
El monitor calcula una lectura promedio basada en los valores de los
tres conjuntos de mediciones más recientes que se tomaron en un
período de 10 minutos de la lectura más reciente.
NOTA: Si se guardan dos conjuntos de valores de medición en la
memoria para el período de 10 minutos, el promedio se basa

Guarde el monitor en el estuche cuando no lo

o doblar en exceso el cable del adaptador de CA.

Limpie el monitor con un paño seco y suave. No utilice limpiadores
abrasivos o volátiles. No limpie el brazalete.
