Note to CATV system installers in the USA
This reminder is provided to call the CATV system
installer’s attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC, which
provides guidelines for proper grounding, and, in
particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be
connected to the grounding system of the building, as
close to the point of cable entry as practical.
Precautions
Installing your TV
• Place the TV on the floor or on a sturdy platform. The
mounting surface should be flat and steady. If you
install the TV on a soft floor, make sure that the floor is
not damaged by the weight of the TV.
• Place the TV far enough away from the walls to allow
proper ventilation. This will prevent the TV from
overheating and avoid possible damage to the TV.
Avoid dusty areas too.
Using your TV
• Do not stand or climb on the TV.
• Do not put any heavy object on top of the TV.
• Do not place containers with liquids such as drinks,
aquariums, or lighted candles on the TV. If any foreign
material or water leaks into the TV, unplug the power
cord and contact your dealer.
• Avoid displaying stationary images on your TV screen
for extended periods of time. Stationary patterns (such
as those generated by computer displays, video
games, or stock market reports) can become
permanently engrained on the picture tube. This
damage is not protected by your warranty because it
is the result of misuse. If you wish to use your TV to
display still images, reduce brightness and contrast
settings. Never leave a computer or video game
display unattended.
Cleaning your TV
• To clean the TV screen:
1.Unplug the TV from the power outlet to avoid
possible shock hazard.
2.Use a clean, dry cellulose sponge or chamois cloth
to clean TV screen and trim. Do not use liquid or
aerosol cleaning agents. Liquid spilling into the TV
cabinet may cause electric shock or damage the TV.
CAUTION
Never use strong solvents such as thinner, benzene, or
other chemicals on or near the cabinet, as they can
damage the finish of the cabinet.

Selecting a location for the TV

a mono VCR)

Caution:
If using a mono VCR, connect L/Mono to VCR
Audio OUT using only one audio cable. If you
have a S-VHS VCR, use the S-video connec-
tions and remove the video cable.
Connecting a VCR
This connection allows you to watch local channels and video programs,
play or record on the VCR while watching TV, and to record from one
channel while watching another channel.
Connecting your TV
If you haven’t connected electronic equipment before, or you have
been frustrated in the past, you may wish to read this section. (Cables
are not supplied.)
• A coaxial cable is the standard cable that comes in from your
antenna or cable converter box. Coaxial cables use “F” connectors.
• Audio and video cables are usually color coded according to use:
yellow for video and red and white for audio. The red audio cable is
for the stereo right channel, and the white audio cable is for the
stereo (or mono) left channel. If you look at the rear panel of the TV,
you will see that the terminals are color coded in the same manner
as the cables.
• S-video cables provide better picture performance. S-video cables
can only be used with S-video compatible components.
• ColorStream
TM
cables come in sets of three and provide the best
picture performance. ColorStream cables can only be used with
ColorStream compatible components.

Connecting a cable converter box
This television has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable
channels without using a cable company supplied converter box. Some
cable companies offer "premium pay channels" in which the signal is
scrambled. Descrambling these signals for normal viewing requires the
use of a descrambler device which is generally provided by the cable
company.
For Subscribers to Basic Cable TV Service
For basic cable service not requiring a Converter/Descrambler box,
connect the CATV 75 ohm Coaxial Cable directly to the Antenna Jack
on the back of the television.
For Subscribers to Scrambled Cable TV Service
If you subscribe to a cable service which requires the use of a Con-
verter/Descrambler box, connect the incoming cable to the Converter/
Descrambler box and connect the output of the box to the Antenna
Jack on the back of the television. Follow the connections shown below.
Set the television to the output of the Converter/Descrambler box
(usually channel 3 or 4) and use the Converter/Descrambler box to
select channels.
For Subscribers to Unscrambled Basic Cable with Scram-
bled Premium Channels
If you subscribe to a cable service in which basic cable channels are
unscrambled and premium channels require the use of a Converter/
Descrambler box, you may wish to use a two-set signal splitter (some-
times called a "two-set coupler") and an A/B Switch box from the cable
installer or an electronics supply store. Follow the connections shown
below. With the switch in the "B" position, you can directly tune any
nonscrambled channels on your TV. With the switch in the "A" position,
tune your TV to the output of the Converter/Descrambler box (usually
channel 3 or 4) and use the box to tune scrambled channels.
Note:
When you use a converter box with your TV,
there may be features that you cannot
program using the remote control, such as
labeling channels, blocking channels, and
programming your favorite channels.

Connecting a DVD/satellite receiver and a VCR
This connection allows you to watch DVD/satellite, video and TV
programs. You can record from the DVD/satellite receiver and TV, as
well as record one TV channel while watching another channel.
You will need:
• one coaxial cable
• two pairs of audio cables (only one cable
for a mono VCR)
• one video cable
• one S-video cable
Caution:
You can use a video cable instead of the
S-video cable, but the picture quality will
decrease. If you use a S-video cable between
the TV and DVD/satellite receiver, make the
audio connections only and remove the video
connection.
You will need:
• one coaxial cable
• three pairs of audio cables (only one cable
for a mono VCR)
• two video cables
• one set of ColorStream video cables
Caution:
To play from the DVD, the DVD and TV must
use ColorStream connections. To record from
the DVD, the DVD and TV must select Video.
The ColorStream selection in the OPTION
menu should be DVD mode. See “Selecting
the ColorStream mode” on page 20.

Connecting a DVD with ColorStream™ and a VCR
This connection allows you to watch DVD, video or TV programs and to
record DVD or TV programs. You can record from one source and
watch a program from another source. Your TV is capable of using
ColorStream (component video). Connecting your TV to a ColorStream
compatible DVD, such as a Toshiba DVD, can greatly enhance picture
quality and performance.

Connecting two VCRs
This connection allows you to record from one VCR to another VCR
while watching a video program. You will also be able to record from
one TV channel while watching another channel.
Connecting a camcorder
This connection allows you to watch video materials recorded on a
camcorder.
You will need:
• one pair of audio cables
• one video cable
Caution:
If you are using a S-VHS camcorder with a
S-video output, use the Video1 jacks on the
back of the TV.
Connecting an audio amplifier
This connection allows you to use an audio amplifier to enjoy a high-
quality sound. This also allows you to use external speakers.
To control the audio, turn on the TV and the stereo amplifier. You will
need one pair of audio cables.

Using the remote control
Preparing the remote control for use
With the remote control, you can operate your TV, most VCR models,
and cable TV converters together, even if they are different brands. If
you will be using your TV with a Toshiba VCR, your remote control is
already programmed and ready to use. If you own different brands of
VCRs and/or converters, you first have to program your remote control.
(See “Programming the remote control for use with a VCR or a cable
TV converter” on page 8.)
Installing the remote control batteries
To install the batteries:
1. Open the battery cover of the back of the remote control.
2. Install two “AAA” size batteries. Match the + and – signs on the
batteries to the signs on the battery compartment.
3. Close the battery cover on to the remote control until the lock snaps.
To control a Toshiba
VCR:
Press the VCR button
first. The buttons
shown to the right will
then control the VCR.
The rest of the buttons
will operate the TV as
usual.
Using the remote control with a VCR or a cable TV converter
Note:
This remote control’s functions may or may
not operate your VCR or cable TV converter.
Refer to the owner’s manuals supplied with
the equipment to see which features are
available. In addition, the original controllers
may have features not available on this
remote control. If you would like to continue to
use these features, you may want to use the
original remote control.
Caution:
• Dispose of your batteries in a designated
disposal area. Do not throw your batteries
into a fire.
• Do not mix battery types or combine used
batteries with new ones.
• Remove dead batteries immediately to
prevent battery acid from leaking into the
battery compartment.
• If you do not intend to use the remote control
for a long time, remove the batteries.
To control a cable TV
converter:

Programming the remote control for use with
a VCR or a cable TV converter
This remote control is pre-programmed to operate Toshiba VCRs. To
use VCRs or cable converters other than Toshiba models, you must
follow the steps below before you operate your remote control.
1. Press the CODE button and the VCR or the CABLE button you
want to register at the same time.
2. Enter the 2-digit code listed below using the Direct Channel
Selection buttons (0-9) within 10 seconds.
3. Point the remote control at the VCR or converter and press
POWER to test the code number.
If the VCR or converter turns on, you have entered the right
number.
If the VCR or converter does not respond to the remote control,
you may have entered the wrong number. Repeat steps 1-2 with
another code number.
For future reference, write down the code numbers you used:

Note:
• When shipped from the factory, the remote
control is set to operate your TV.
• If you do not enter the code within 10
seconds from step 1 or enter the non-listed
code below, this operation is canceled.
• Each time you replace the batteries, you
must reprogram the remote control.
• Some newer VCRs are capable of working
on either of two remote codes. These VCRs
have a switch labeled “VCR1/VCR2”.
If your VCR has this kind of switch, it may
not respond to any of the code numbers for
your VCR brand name. In this case, set the
switch to the other position (VCR1 or VCR2)
and reprogram the remote control.

Setting up your TV
After you’ve installed the batteries and programmed the remote
control, you need to set some preferences on the TV using the menu.
You can access the menu with the buttons on the remote control.
• When you make a menu selection, your changes occur immedi-
ately. You do not have to press MENU or EXIT to see your
changes.
• After fifteen seconds, the menu screen will automatically disappear
if you do not make a selection. Your changes will still be saved.
• When you are finished programming the menus, press EXIT.
Changing the on-screen display language
You can choose from three different languages (English, French and
Spanish) for the on-screen displays. Adjustment menus and messages
will appear in the language of your choice.
To select a language:
1. Press MENU, then press
or until the OPTION menu appears.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight LANGUAGE.
3. Press
or to highlight your desired language.

Adding channels to the TV’s memory
Your TV will stop on specific channels that are stored in the TV’s
channel memory when you press Channel + or –. Use the steps below
to set all active channels in your area automatically.
Programming channels automatically
Your TV can automatically detect all active channels and store them in
its memory. After the TV has stored the channels in its memory, you
can erase channels or add your favorite channels.
To add channels:
1. Press MENU, then press
or to display the SET UP menu.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the TV/CABLE
selection is highlighted.
3. Press
or to highlight either
TV or CABLE, depending on
which you use.
If you use an antenna, choose TV.
If you use cable, choose CABLE.
4. Press ▼ to select CH PROGRAM.
5. Press
or to start channel programming. The TV will automati-
cally cycle through all the TV or Cable channels (depending on
which you selected), and store all active channels in the channel
memory.
While the TV is cycling through the channels, the message
“PROGRAMMING NOW PLEASE WAIT” appears.
6. When channel programming is complete, the message “COMPLETED
(channel or cable number)” appears.
7. Press Channel ▲ or ▼ to view the programmed channels.
Adding and erasing channels manually
After you’ve programmed the channels, you can add or erase specific
channels.
To add or erase channels:
1. Select the channel you want to add or erase using Channel + or –.
If adding channels, you must select the channel to add by using the
Channel Number buttons.
2. Press MENU, then press or
to display the SET UP menu.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight ADD/
ERASE.
4. Press
or to select ADD or
ERASE, whichever function you
want to perform.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for other
channels you want to add or erase.
Changing channels
To change the channel, you can:
• change the programmed channels using the remote control
• select a channel directly using the remote control
• scan the channels using the TV buttons
To change to the next programmed channel:
Press Channel + or – on the TV or remote control.
To change to a specific channel (programmed or unprogrammed):
Press the Channel Number buttons (0-9 and 100).
For example, to select channel 125, press the 100 button, the 2
button, and the 5 button.

Adjusting the channel settings
Switching between two channels
You can switch between two channels without entering an actual
channel number each time.
To switch between two channels:
1. Select the first channel you want to view.
2. Select a second channel with the Channel Number buttons (0-9,
100).
3. Press CH RTN. The previous channel will be displayed.
Each time you press CH RTN, the TV will switch back and forth
between the two channels.
Programming your favorite channels
You can preset up to 12 of your favorite channels using the Favorite
Channel Programming feature. Because this feature scans through
only your favorite channels, it allows you to skip other channels you
do not normally watch.
You can still use Channel ▲▼ to scan through all the channels you
programmed in the TV’s memory.
To program your favorite channels:
1. Select a channel you want to program.
2. Press MENU, then press or to display the OPTION menu.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight FAVORITE CH.
4. Press
or to display the FAVORITE CH menu. SET/CLEAR will
be highlighted.
5. Press
or to highlight SET and press ENTER.
6. Press EXIT to clear the screen.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for up to 11 other channels.
To select your favorite channels:
Press the FAV ▲ ▼ buttons on the remote control to select your
favorite channels.
The FAV ▲ ▼ buttons will not work until you have programmed
your favorite channels.

To clear your favorite channels:
1. Select a channel you want to clear.
2. Press MENU, then press
or to display the OPTION menu.

Using the V-Chip
You can prevent others from viewing certain programs or channels by
using the V-Chip feature.
Selecting a PIN code
Before you can block programs and channels, though, you must select
a personal identification number (PIN) code. The PIN code you select
prevents others from changing the rating limits you set.
To select your PIN code and access the V-Chip menus:
1. Press MENU, then press or to highlight the OPTION menu.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight V-CHIP.

Blocking programs by ratings
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) uses a rating
system to qualify motion picture content. Television broadcasters
employ a rating system to qualify the content of television programs, as
well. The MPAA, Youth TV and TV ratings work with the V-Chip feature
and allow you to block out programming above the rating limits you
determine.
Note:
If you forget your PIN code, press RECALL
four times within five seconds from the V-CHIP
menu. This allows you to proceed to the
BLOCKING menu and reset your PIN code.

automatically blocked, too.
9. When you are done selecting the ratings to be blocked, press
EXIT to return to normal viewing.
When you try to view a program with a ratings block, a message will
appear listing the program’s ratings. The program can still be viewed if
you press MUTE and then enter your PIN code to temporarily bypass
the block.
Note:
Not all programs are rated. To block programs
or movies that are unrated, see “Blocking
unrated movies or programs”, page 17.

Blocking unrated movies or programs
Some movies and programs are not rated. You can block these movies
and programs using the V-Chip.
To block unrated movies or programs:
1. Press MENU, then press
or to display the OPTION menu.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight V-CHIP.
3. Press
or to display the V-CHIP menu.
4. Use the Channel Number buttons (0-9) to enter your PIN code.
If you are accessing the V-Chip menus for the first time, select a

BLOCKING menu appears.

You can also choose to block individual channels. These channels will
not be seen regardless of the ratings of their programming. You can
choose to block up to four TV channels and four cable channels.
To block channels:
1. Use the Channel Number Buttons (0-9) to display the television
channel you wish to block.
2. Press MENU, then press or to highlight the OPTION menu.
3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight V-CHIP and then press
or to display
the V-CHIP menu.
4. Use the Channel Number buttons (0-9) to enter your PIN code.
If you are accessing the V-Chip menus for the first time, choose a
four-digit number to be your PIN code. Press ENTER.
5. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight CHANNEL BLOCK and then press

• SET the channel as one to be blocked.

can choose any four characters to identify the channels.
To create channel labels:
1. Select a channel you want to label.

3. Press ▲ or ▼
to highlight CH LABEL.
4. Press to display the CH LABEL menu. SET/CLEAR will be
highlighted.
5. Press or to highlight SET.

7. Assign the label to the channel. Press or to enter a character
in the first space. Press the button repeatedly until the character
you want appears on the screen. Press ENTER.
8. Repeat step 7 to enter the rest of the characters.
If you would like a blank space in the label name, you must
choose an empty space from the list of characters. Otherwise, a
dash will appear in that space.
9. Press EXIT to clear the screen.
10. Repeat steps 1 through 8 for other channels. You can assign the
label to all the channels.
To erase channel labels:
1. Select a channel with a label.
2. Press MENU then press

Adjusting the picture
Adjusting the picture quality
You can adjust the picture quality to your personal preferences,
including the contrast, brightness, color, tint, and sharpness. The
qualities you choose will be stored automatically in your TV’s memory
so you can recall them at any time.
To adjust the picture quality:
1. Press MENU, then press
or to display the PICTURE menu.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ until the item you want to adjust is highlighted.
3. Press
or to adjust the level.
The PICTURE items you have adjusted will be stored in theTV’s
memory automatically.

Watching video input
You can use the TV/VIDEO button on the remote to view a signal
coming from other devices, such as VCRs or video disc players that
may be connected to your TV. (See “Connecting your TV” on page 3.)
Selecting the ColorStream mode
You can use the ColorStream input for connecting the DVD or DTV
receiver.
1. Press MENU, then press or until
the OPTION menu appears.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight
COLORSTREAM.
3. Press
or to highlight DVD or
DTV depending on which device is
connected.
Displaying on-screen information
Press RECALL to display the following
on-screen information:
• Channel number or VIDEO mode
selected
• Channel label (if preset)
• Stereo or SAP (second audio program)

Setting the sleep timer
You can set the TV so it turns off automatically.
To set the sleep timer:
Press the SLEEP button on the remote control. The clock will count
down 10 minutes for each press of the SLEEP button (120, 110, ...10,
0). After the sleep time is programmed, the display will appear briefly
every ten minutes to remind you that the sleep timer is operating.
To confirm the sleep timer setting:
Press the SLEEP button and the remaining time will be momen-
tarily displayed.
To cancel the sleep timer:
Press the SLEEP button repeatedly until the display turns to 0.
Using the closed caption feature
You have two options with the closed caption feature: captions or text.
A caption is a printed version of the dialogue, narration and/or sound
effects of a TV program. Text is information not related to the program
that appears on half of the TV screen.
To view captions or text:
1. Select the desired program. The captioned programs are usually
marked in your local TV listing by “CC”.
2. Press CAP/TEXT repeatedly to select caption or text mode.

When you choose a closed captioned channel
and the text mode, the text screen always

Muting the sound
Press MUTE to temporarily turn off the sound. While the sound is off,
the screen will display the word MUTE in the lower right-hand corner.
To restore the sound, press MUTE again.
Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts
You can enjoy watching TV while you listen to high-fidelity stereo sound
with the Multi-channel TV Sound (MTS) feature. MTS can also transmit
a second audio program (SAP) containing a second language or other
audio information.
When the TV receives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word STEREO
or SAP appears on the screen when the TV is on, you change the
channel, or press the RECALL button.
The MTS feature is not available while in the VIDEO mode.
When you are watching a stereo broadcast, the word STEREO is
displayed in light blue. You should leave your TV set to STEREO so you
can automatically receive stereo or monaural sound, depending on the
broadcast type. If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO to reduce the
noise. The word STEREO or SAP is displayed in light blue when the TV
receives the signal.

Adjusting the sound quality
You can change the sound quality of your TV by adjusting the bass,
treble, and balance.
To adjust the sound quality:
1. Press MENU, then press
or until the AUDIO menu appears.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight the item you want to adjust.

Using the StableSound
TM
feature
When the signal source is changed, the StableSound
TM
feature limits
the high volume level to prevent extreme changes in volume (for
example, to prevent the sudden increase in volume that often happens
when a TV program switches to a commercial).
To turn on the StableSound
TM
feature:
1. Press MENU, then press
or until the AUDIO menu appears.
2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight STABLE SOUND.
3. Press or to highlight ON.
To turn off the StableSound

Auto power off
The TV will automatically turn itself off after approximately 15 minutes if
it is tuned to a vacant channel or if a station completes its broadcast for
the day and stops broadcasting on that channel. This feature, however,
does not work in the VIDEO mode.
Understanding the Power Return feature
If the power is cut off while you are viewing the TV and the power is
resupplied, the Power Return feature will turn the TV on automatically.
If the power is going to be off for a long time or you are going to be
away from home for a long time, remove the power plug from the wall
outlet to prevent the TV from turning on in your absence.
Appendix
Cleaning and care
WARNING:
TV sets use high voltage. Do not try to remove the cabinet back. Refer servicing to qualified service technicians.
To clean the TV screen:
1. Unplug the TV to avoid possible shock hazard.
2. Use a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of mild detergent and warm water to clean
the TV screen and trim. Do not use too much water because water spills into the cabinet can cause damage to the TV.
3. Wipe off any excess moisture with a clean dry cloth.
4. Polish the cabinet with a quality furniture polish to maintain the finish and appearance of the cabinet.
Caution:
Never use strong solvents such as thinner, benzene, or other chemicals on or near the cabinet. These chemicals can
damage the finish of the cabinet.

Troubleshooting
Before calling a service technician, please check the following table for a possible cause of the problem and some solutions.

TV will not turn on • Make sure the power cord is plugged in, then press POWER.
• The remote control batteries may be dead. Replace the batteries.
No picture, no sound • Check the antenna/cable connections.
No sound, picture OK • The sound may be muted. Press VOLUME.
• The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another
channel.
Poor sound, picture OK • The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
Poor picture, sound OK • Check the antenna connections.
• The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
• Adjust the PICTURE menu.
Poor reception of broadcast channels • The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
• Check the antenna connections.
• If you are using a VCR, make sure the TV/VCR button is set correctly.
Cannot receive above channel 13 • Make sure TV/CABLE is set to CABLE mode.
Unable to select a certain channel • The channel may be blocked out with the V-Chip feature, or erased
with the add/erase feature.
Multiple images • The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
• Use a highly directional outdoor antenna.
Poor color or no color • The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
• Adjust the TINT and/or COLOR in the PICTURE menu.
• If you change the direction of the TV while it is turned on, the picture
could suffer from color shading. If so, turn off the TV and allow it to cool
down for several hours before turning it on again.
No stereo or SAP sound from a • Make sure the MTS feature is set properly.

The remote control does not operate • Check to see if the TV/VCR/CABLE mode is properly set.
• There may be an obstruction between the remote control and the
remote control sensor.

Precauciones
Instalación de su TV
• Sitúe el televisor sobre el piso o sobre una plataforma
firme. La superficie de montaje debe ser plana y firme. Si
instala el televisor sobre un piso mullido, verifique que el
peso del aparato no lo dañe.
• Sitúe la TV suficientemente alejada de las paredes para
facilitar la ventilación adecuada. Esto impedirá que la TV
se sobrecaliente y evitará su posible daño. Evite también
los lugares polvorientos.
Empleo de su TV
• No se pare ni se trepe sobre la TV.
• No coloque ningún objeto pesado encima de la TV.
• No coloque envases con líquidos, como por ejemplo
bebida, y acuarios, ni ponga velas encendidas encima de
la TV. Si algún material extraño o agua entra en el
televisor, desconecte el cable eléctrico y comuníquese con
su distribuidor.
• Evite mostrar imágenes estacionarias en la pantalla de la
TV durante períodos prolongados. Las imágenes
estacionarias (como por ejemplo las generadas por
computadoras, juegos de vídeo o informes de la bolsa)
pueden quedar grabadas permanentemente en el tubo de
imagen. Esa clase de daño no está protegida por su
garantía porque es el resultado de un uso indebido. Si
desea usar su TV para mostrar imágenes fijas, reduzca los
ajustes de brillo y contraste. Nunca deje la TV encendida
con una computadora o con un juego de vídeo conectado.
Limpieza de su TV

Selección de una ubicación para su TV
• Coloque la TV sobre el suelo o sobre una plataforma robusta en un
lugar donde la luz no incida directamente sobre la pantalla.
• Sitúe el aparato de TV suficientemente alejado de las paredes para

mejor calidad de imagen. Los cables ColorStream sólo pueden
utilizarse con componentes compatibles con ColorStream.

Conexión de un decodificador de cable
Este TV posee amplios limites de sintonizaclón y puede ser
sintonizado en la mayoría de los canales de cable sin utilizar una caja
convertidora de TV cable. Algunas de las compañías de TV cable
ofrecen “canales pagados premiados” en los cuales la señal ha sido
codificada. La decodificación de estas señales para la recepción
normal requiere el uso de un mecanismo decodificador que lo
suministra generalmente la compañía de cable.
PARA ABONADOS AL SERVICIO BASICO DE TV CABLE
Para el servicio básico de cable y cuando no es necesario un
convertidor/caja decodificadora, conecte el cable coaxial de 75 ohmios
de CATV al conector de la antena en la parte trasera del TV.
PARA ABONADOS AL SERVICIO CODIFICADO DE TV CABLE
Si usted es abonado a un servicio de TV cable que requiere el uso de
un convertidor/caja decodificadora, conecte el cable coaxial entrante
de 75 ohmios al convertidor/caja decodificadora. Utillizando otro cable
coaxial de 75 ohmios conecte el conector de salida del convertidor/

de señales y una caja de conmutación A/B (disponible en las

Conexión de un recibidor de satélite y de una
videocasetera
Esta conexión le permite ver canales de satélite, VCR y TV. Puede
grabar desde el DVD/recibidor de satélite y TV, así como grabar un
canal de TV mientras ve otro canal.
Necesita:
• un cable coaxial
• dos pares de cables para sonido (uno
sencillo y un par de cables
para sonido en el caso de una
videocasetera monaural)
• un cable para video
• un cable para S-video
Precaución:
Puede utilizar un cable de video en lugar de
un cable S-video, pero se reducirá la calidad
de la imagen. Si utiliza un cable S-video

conexión de video.

Preparación del control remoto
Con el control remoto puede operar su TV, la mayoría de modelos de
VCR y los decodificadores de TV por cable a la vez, incluso si son de
marcas diferentes. Si va a utilizar su TV con una VCR Toshiba, su
control remoto ya está programado y listo para su uso. Si posee
diferentes marcas de VCRs y/o decodificadores, primero deberá
programar su control remoto. (Consulte "Programación del control
remoto para usar con una videocasetera o con un decodificador de
cable" en la página 8.)
Instalación de las pilas del control remoto
Para instalar las pilas:
1. Abra la tapa del compartimento de las pilas en la parte posterior
del control remoto.
2. Instale dos pilas de tamaño "AAA ". Haga coincidir los símbolos +
y – de las pilas con los símbolos del compartimento de las pilas.
3. Cierre la tapa del compartimento de las pilas del control remoto de
modo que el cierre encaje perfectamente.

Precaución:
• Deseche las pilas en un lugar dispuesto
para ese fin. No las tire en el fuego.
• No mezcle diferentes tipos de pilas ni use
pilas usadas con pilas nuevas.
• Retire las pilas gastadas inmediatamente
para impedir que se fugue el ácido de éstas
dentro del compartimento para pilas.

período prolongado, sáquele las pilas.

Programación del control remoto para usar
con una videocasetera o con un
decodificador de cable
Este control remoto está preprogramado para operar VCRs Toshiba.
Para utilizar VCRs o decodificadores de cable distintos a los modelos
Toshiba, deberá seguir los pasos siguientes antes de operar su control
remoto.
1. Presione el botón CODE y el botón VCR o CABLE deseado para
registrar al mismo tiempo.
2. Entre el código de 2 cifras que aparece en la lista de la página 7,
utilizando los botones de selección de canal directo (0-9) antes de
10 segundos.
3. Apunte el control remoto a la VCR o decodificador y presione
POWER para comprobar el número de código.
Si el VCR o decodificador se enciende, significa que ha entrado el
número correcto.
Si el VCR o decodificador no responde al control remoto, puede
ser que haya entrado el número incorrecto. Repita los pasos 1-2
con otro número de código.
Anote el código o los códigos que utilizó, para consulta posterior:

NOTAS:
• Cuando sale de fábrica, el control remoto
está preparado para hacer funcionar su TV.
• Si no entra el código antes de 10 segundos
del paso 1 o entra un código que no esté
en la lista de la página 7,esta operación

• Cada vez que cambie las pilas, deberá
reprogramar el control remoto.
• Algunas VCR más nuevas responden a
cualquiera de los dos códigos. Estas VCR
tienen un interruptor rotulado VCR1/VCR2.
Si su VCR tiene esta clase de interruptor y
no responde a los códigos para su marca
de VCR, ponga el interruptor en la otra
posición (VCR1 o VCR2) y vuelva a
programar el control remoto.

Después de que haya instalado las pilas y programado el control
remoto, necesitará establecer algunas preferencias en la TV utilizando
el menú. Puede accesar al menú con los botones del control remoto.
• Cuando haga una selección en el menú, sus cambios tendrán
efecto inmediato. No tiene que presionar MENU ni EXIT para ver
sus cambios.
• Después de quince segundos, la pantalla del menú desaparecerá
automáticamente si no hace una selección. Aún así sus cambios
se guardarán.
• Cuando termine de programar los menús, presione EXIT.
Cambio del idioma de pantalla
Puede elegir entre tres idiomas distintos (inglés, francés y español)
para el texto en pantalla. Los mensajes y los menús de ajuste
aparecerán en el idioma que haya elegido.
Para seleccionar un idioma:
1. Presione MENU, luego presione ó hasta que aparezca el
menú OPTION.

Cómo añadir canales a la memoria de la TV
Su TV se detendrá en canales específicos que estén almacenados en
la memoria de canales de la TV cuando presione Canal + o –. Siga los
pasos indicados a continuación para ajustar todos los canales activos
de su área automáticamente.
Programación automática de canales
Su TV puede detectar automáticamente todos los canales activos y
almacenarlos en su memoria. Después de que la TV haya almacenado
los canales en su memoria, podrá borrar canales o añadir sus canales
favoritos.
Para añadir canales:
1.
Presione MENU, y luego presione o para ver el menú SET UP.
2. Presione ▲ o ▼ hasta que la
opción TV/CABLE quede
seleccionada.
3. Presione

para seleccionar
TV o CABLE, dependiendo de lo
que vaya a utilizar.
Si usa una antena, elija TV.

6. Cuando haya terminado la programación de canales, aparecerá el

Después de que haya programado los canales, podrá añadir o borrar
canales concretos.
Para añadir o borrar canales:
1. Seleccione el canal que desea añadir o borrar usando Canal + o –.
Si va a añadir canales, deberá seleccionar el canal a añadir con los
botones de número de canal.
2. Presione MENU, y luego presione

Cómo ajustar los canales
Cómo cambiar entre dos canales
Puede cambiar entre dos canales sin entrar un número de canal cada
vez.
Para cambiar entre dos canales:
1. Seleccione el primer canal que desea ver.
2. Seleccione el segundo canal usando los botones de Número de
canal.
3. Oprima CH RTN para volver al canal anterior.
Cada vez que oprima CH RTN la TV alternará entre esos dos canales.
Cómo programar sus canales favoritos
Puede programar hasta 12 de sus canales favoritos utilizando la
característica de Programación de Canal Predilecto. Debido a que esta
característica busca sólo sus canales favoritos, le permite saltarse
otros canales que normalmente no ve.
Puede continuar usando los botones CHANNEL ▲▼ para recorrer
todos los canales que haya programado en la memoria de canales.
Para programar sus canales favoritos:
1. Seleccione un canal que desea programar.
2.
Presione MENU, y luego presione o para ver el menú OPTION.
3. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar FAVORITE CH.
4. Presione
o para mostrar el menú del programa CAN
FAVORITO. SET/CLEAR quedará seleccionado.

Para borrar sus canales favoritos:
1. Seleccione un canal que desea borrar.
2. Presione MENU, y luego presione
o para ver el menú
OPTION.
3. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar FAVORITE CH.
4. Presione
o para ver el menú FAVORITE CH. Se seleccionará
SET/CLEAR.
5. Presione
o para seleccionar CLEAR.
6. Presione ENTER hasta que "0 " sustituya al número de canal que
desea borrar.
7. Presione EXIT para abandonar la pantalla.
8. Repita los pasos 1 a 6 para los otros canales.
Uso del V-Chip
Puede impedir que otras personas vean ciertos programas o canales
utilizando la característica V-Chip.
Selección de un PIN
Antes de poder bloquear programas y canales, deberá seleccionar un
número de identificación personal (PIN). El PIN que seleccione
impedirá a otras personas cambiar los límites de clasificación de
programación que establezca.

Bloquear programas según clasificación
La Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) utiliza un sistema de
clasificación para calificar el contenido de las películas. Las cadenas
de televisión también emplean un sistema de clasificación para
calificar el contenido de los programas de televisión. Las
clasificaciones de la MPAA, TV y Youth TV funcionan con la
característica V-Chip y le permiten bloquear toda la programación que
esté fuera de los límites de clasificación que usted determine.
Nota:
Si olvida su PIN, presione RECALL cuatro
veces en cinco segundos desde el menú V-
CHIP. Esto le permite proceder al menú
BLOCKING y volver a establecer su PIN.

Cuando intente ver un programa con clasificación bloqueada,
aparecerá un mensaje listando la clasificación del programa. Todavía
podrá ver el programa si presiona MUTE y entra su PIN para saltarse
temporalmente el bloqueo.
Nota:
No todos los programas están clasificados. Para
bloquear programas o películas que no están
clasificados, consulte "Bloquear programas o
películas sin clasificar", página 17.

Bloquear programas o películas sin clasificar
Algunas películas y programas no están clasificados. Puede bloquear
estas películas y programas usando V-Chip.
Para bloquear programas o películas sin clasificar:
1.
Presione MENU, y luego presione o para ver el menú OPTION.
2. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar V-CHIP.
3. Presione
o para ver el menú V-CHIP.
4. Use los botones de número de canal (0-9) para entrar su PIN.
Si está accediendo a los menús V-Chip por primera vez,

ENTER. Aparecerá el menú BLOCKING.

televisión que desea bloquear.

terminado de bloquear canales, presione EXIT para volver a la

Si intenta ver un canal bloqueado la TV no lo mostrará, sino que
mostrará el canal no bloqueado más cercano.
Para desbloquear canales:
1. Presione MENU, y luego presione
o hasta que aparezca el

2. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar V-CHIP y luego presione

para ver el menú V-CHIP.

7. Asigne el nombre al canal. Presione o para entrar un
carácter en el primer espacio. Presione el botón repetidamente
hasta que el carácter que desee aparezca en pantalla. Presione
ENTER.
8. Repita el paso 7 para entrar el resto de caracteres.
Si desea dejar un espacio en blanco en el nombre debe elegir un
espacio en blanco de la lista de caracteres. De lo contrario,
aparecerá un guión en ese espacio.
9. Presione EXIT para abandonar la pantalla.
10. Repita los pasos 1 a 8 para otros canales. Puede asignar un
nombre a todos los canales.
Para borrar nombres de canales:
1. Seleccione un canal con nombre.
2.
Presione MENU, luego presione o hasta que aparezca el menú
OPTION.

Ajuste de la imagen
Ajuste de la calidad de la imagen
Puede ajustar la calidad de la imagen según sus preferencias
personales, incluyendo el contraste, el brillo, el color, el tinte y la
nitidez. Las cualidades que elija serán almacenadas automáticamente
en la memoria de su TV, por lo que podrá recuperarlas en cualquier
momento.
Para ajustar la calidad de la imagen:
1.
Presione MENU, luego presione o para ver el menú PICTURE.
2.
Presione ▲ o ▼ hasta que se seleccione el elemento que desea ajustar.
3.
Presione
o para ajustar la característica.
Los elementos que haya ajustado en PICTURE quedarán

Cómo ver videos
Puede usar el botón TV/VIDEO del control remoto para ver una señal
que provenga de otros dispositivos, tales como VCRs o reproductores
de discos de video que puedan estar conectados a su TV. (Consulte
"Conexión de su TV" en la página 3.)
Selección del modo ColorStream
Puede utilizar la enyrada de ColorStream para conectar un receptor de
DVD o DTV.
1. Presione MENU, luego oprima ó
hasta que aparezca el menú OPTION.
2. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar
COLORSTREAM.
3. Presione
ó para seleccionar
DVD o DTV dependiendo de qué
dispositivo esté conectado.

Programación del temporizador de
desconexión automática
Puede ajustar la TV para que se desconecte automáticamente.
Para ajustar el temporizador de desconexión:
Presione el botón SLEEP del control remoto. El reloj entrará en cuenta
regresiva, 10 minutos por cada presión del botón SLEEP (120, 110, ...10,
0). Después que el tiempo de apagado está programado, aparecerá una
indicación brevemente cada diez minutos para recordarle que la función
de apagado automático está activada.
Para confirmar el tiempo del temporizador de apagado:
Presione el botón SLEEP y el tiempo restante aparecerá brevemente.
Para cancelar el temporizador de apagado
Presione el botón SLEEP varias veces hasta que la indicación muestre 0.
Uso de la función de subtítulos
La característica de subtítulos tiene dos opciones: subtítulos o texto.
Un subtítulo es la versión impresa del diálogo, narración o efectos de
sonido de un programa. Texto es información, no relacionada con el
programa que aparece en la pantalla.
Para ver subtítulos o texto:
1. Seleccione el programa deseado. Los programas con subtítulos
van normalmente marcados en su listado de TV local por "CC ".
2. Presione CAP/TEXT repetidamente para seleccionar el modo de
subtítulos o texto.

3. Presione 1/2 para seleccionar el canal con subtítulos o texto.
Nota:
• La señal de subtítulos no se podrá
descodificar en los siguientes casos:
– Cuando una videocinta haya sido doblada.
– Cuando la recepción de la señal sea débil.
– Cuando la recepción de la señal no sea
estándar.
Cuando elija un canal con subtítulos y el modo
de texto, la pantalla de texto aparecerá
siempre. Sin embargo, cuando no haya señal,
la pantalla de texto no mostrará caracteres de
texto.
4. Para desactivar la característica de subtítulos, presione CAP/TEXT
repetidamente hasta que la pantalla muestre una
imagen de TV normal.

Ajuste del sonido
Bloqueo del sonido
Presione MUTE para silenciar temporalmente el sonido. Mientras el
sonido esté desactivado, la pantalla mostrará la palabra MUTE en la
esquina inferior derecha.
Para restaurar el sonido, vuelva a oprimir MUTE.
Selección de difusiones en estéreo/SAP
Puede disfrutar viendo la TV mientras escucha un sonido estéreo de
alta fidelidad con la característica de sonido multicanal de TV (MTS).
MTS también puede transmitir un segundo programa de audio (SAP)
que contenga un segundo idioma u otra información de audio.
Cuando la TV recibe una transmisión estéreo o SAP, la palabra
STEREO o SAP aparece en pantalla cuando la TV está encendida,
cambia de canal o presiona el botón RECALL.
La característica MTS no está disponible cuando se está en modo
VIDEO.
Cuando se está viendo una transmisión en estéreo, la palabra
STEREO se verá en azul claro. Le recomendamos que deje su TV
ajustada a STEREO para recibir automáticamente sonido estéreo o
monoaural, dependiendo del tipo de transmisión. Si el sonido estéreo
contiene interferencias, seleccione MONO para reducir el ruido. La
palabra STEREO o SAP se verá en azul claro cuando la TV reciba la
señal.

Ajuste de la calidad del sonido
Puede alterar la calidad de sonido de su TV ajustando los graves, los
agudos y el balance.
Para ajustar la calidad del sonido:
1. Presione MENU, luego oprima
ó hasta que aparezca el menú
OPTION.
2. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar el elemento que desea ajustar.
3. Presione
o para ajustar el nivel.

Nota:

Uso de la característica StableSound
TM
Cuando la fuente de señal es camblada, la functón de StableSound
TM
llmita el alto nivel de volumen preveniendo cambios extremos en el
Volumen. (Por ejemplo, previene los incrementos repentinos de
volumen que ocurren cuando cambla la señal de un program de TV a
un Comercial.)
Para activar la característica StableSound
TM
:
1. Presione MENU, luego presione
o hasta que aparezca el
menú OPTION.
2. Presione ▲ o ▼ para seleccionar STABLE SOUND.
3. Presione
o para seleccionar ON.
Para desactivar la característica StableSound
TM
:
Seleccione OFF en el paso 3 anterior.

Desconexión automática
La TV se apaga automáticamente después de 15 minutos si está
sintonizada a un canal vacante o a una estación que terminó su
difusión del día. Esta función no opera cuando la TV está en el modo
VIDEO.
Información sobre la característica de
encendido automático
Si se interrumpe la corriente eléctrica mientras está viendo la TV, la
función Memoria de último modo enciende la TV cuando vuelva la luz.
Si no va a haber luz por mucho tiempo y no va a estar cerca de la TV
cuando vuelva, desconecte el cable eléctrico para impedir que la TV
se encienda en su ausencia.

Limpieza y cuidados
ADVERTENCIA
Los aparatos de TV emplean altas tensiones. No intente quitar la tapa posterior del gabinete. Acuda a un técnico de
servicio calificado.
Para limpiar la pantalla de la TV:
1. Desconecte la TV de la toma para evitar el posible riesgo de choque eléctrico.
2. Use una esponja de celulosa o paño de gamuza limpio humedecido en una solución de detergente suave y agua
templada para limpiar la pantalla de TV y los demás accesorios. No utilice demasiada agua ya que el agua derramada
en el gabinete puede ocasionar daños a la TV.
3. Seque todo exceso de humedad con un paño seco y limpio.
4. Abrillante el gabinete con un embellecedor de muebles de calidad para mantener la apariencia y el acabado del
gabinete.
Precaución:
Nunca utilice disolventes fuertes tales como tíner, benceno u otros productos químicos sobre el gabinete ni en su
proximidad, pues pueden dañar el acabado del gabinete.

Solución de problemas
Antes de llamar a un técnico de servicio consulte la siguiente tabla para ver si encuentra la causa posible del problema y
alguna solución.

La TV no se enciende • Verifique que el cable eléctrico esté conectado y luego oprima POWER.
• Puede que estén agotadas las pilas del control remoto. Cambie las pilas.
No hay imagen ni sonido • Revise las conexiones de antena/cable.
No hay sonido, la imagen está bien • Puede que esté bloqueado el sonido. Oprima VOLUME S.

haber sido borrado con la característica añadir/borrar.
Imágenes múltiples (fantasmas) • Puede que la estación esté teniendo problemas de transmisión.
Pruebe otro canal.
• Use una antena altamente direccional para exteriores.
Color deficiente o no hay color • Puede que la estación esté teniendo problemas de transmisión.
Pruebe otro canal.
• Ajuste el TINTE y el COLOR en el menú Picture.
• Si cambia la dirección de la TV mientras está encendida, la imagen
podría trastornarse debido a sombreo de colores. Apague la TV y deje
que se enfríe unos 30 minutos; luego enciéndala otra vez.
No hay sonido estereofónico ni SAP • Verifique que la función MTS esté programada correctamente.
proveniente de una emisión MIS
El control remoto no funciona • Verifique que el selector de TV/CABLE/VCR esté en la selección
correcta.
• Podría haber un obstáculo entre el control remoto y la TV.
• Puede que estén agotadas las pilas del control remoto. Cambie las
pilas.
El PIN de V-Chip no funciona • Cambie o vuelva a ajustar su PIN (consulte la página 13, Selección de
un PIN).
