Insert probe into thickest part of meat or fowl at end of cooking time. Be sure tip is not touching bone, gristle, the pan or inserted into cavity of fowl. 2. To calibrate: To check thermometer for accuracy, fill a container with crushed ice and add water. Wait approximately 1 minute. Insert 2 inches of the probe into the ice bath for 30 seconds, or until the temperature indicator stops. If the unit does not read 32°F, grip the recalibration nut (see figure A) by hand. Rotate the thermometer right or left until the pointer reaches the red freeze test indicator.
