1 Introduction

this manual will help you receive maximum performance and
satisfaction from your trimmer and, if followed, reduce the
risk of injury from its use.

Have your authorized STIHL servicing dealer show you how
to operate your power tool.
Do not lend or rent the trimmer without this instruction
manual. Allow only persons who fully understand the
information in this manual to operate the trimmer.

special safety precautions must be observed to
reduce the risk of personal injury.
Read this instruction manual thoroughly before
use and periodically thereafter. Follow all safety
precautions. Careless or improper use of the
trimmer can cause serious or fatal injury.

3.1 Trimmer and Charger
The trimmer is powered by an integrated lithium ion battery
that cannot be removed from the power tool.
1 Control Handle
Handle for the operator's rear hand.
2 Trigger Switch Lockout
Must be depressed while the retaining latch is unlocked
to allow activation of the trigger switch.
3 Retaining Latch
Locks/unlocks the trigger switch.
4 Activation Key
Enables the flow of electrical power from the integrated
battery to the motor.
5 Activation Key Socket
Socket for connecting the activation key to the trimmer.
6Star Knob
Tightens the loop handle in position.
7Housing
Contains the integrated battery.
Refers to a designated chapter or sub-chapter in this
instruction manual.

8 Drive Tube Release Button
Unlocks the drive tube to allow length adjustment and
conversion for edging.
9 Loop Handle
Handle for the operator's front hand.
10 Trimmer LEDs
Indicate the trimmer's state of charge and display error
messages regarding potential malfunctions in the power
tool or its integrated battery.
11 Push Button
Activates the trimmer's LEDs.
12 Charging Socket
Socket for connecting the charger to the trimmer.
13 Trigger Switch
Activates the cutting attachment when depressed.
14 Drive Tube
Trimmer shaft.
15 Trimmer Head Adjustment Latch
Allows the angle of the trimmer head to be adjusted for

Limits the cutting range of the mowing line and helps
regulate cutting depth during edging.
17 Connector
Connects the charger to the trimmer's charging socket.

Supplies electrical charging current when the charger is
plugged into an electrical outlet.

Connects the charger to an electrical outlet.
20 Charger (Power Supply)
Power supply for charging the trimmer.

Contains electrical information and the product's serial

3.2 Mowing Head, Cutting Attachments and
Deflector
1 Deflector
Designed to reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects
and contact with the cutting attachment.
2 Line Limiting Blade
Metal blade on the deflector that trims the nylon mowing
line to the proper length.
3 Polymer Blade
Rigid cutting attachment for trimming grass and similar
material.
4 Mounting Post
Post on each side of the mowing head for mounting the
polymer blades.
5 Trimmer Line
Nylon cutting attachment for trimming grass and similar
material.
6 PolyCut 2-2 Mowing Head
The mowing head for mounting nylon trimmer line or
polymer blades.

4.1 Trimmer and Charger
The following safety symbols are found on the trimmer
and/or charger:
5.1 Introduction
This section contains the prescribed general safety
warnings and instructions for handheld, motor-operated
electric trimmers. Additional important warnings and
instructions are provided in subsequent sections of this
manual.
WARNING
￭ When using electric trimmers, basic safety precautions
should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock and personal injury, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE
TRIMMER!
1)Avoid Dangerous Environment – Don’t use trimmers in
damp or wet locations.
2)Don’t Use In Rain.
3)Keep Children Away – All bystanders should be kept at a
distance from work area.

To reduce the risk of injury, follow the specified
safety precautions.
Read and follow all safety precautions in the
instruction manual. Improper use can lead to
serious or fatal personal injury or property
damage.
To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear
proper eye protection, @ 5.4.
To reduce the risk of personal injury from thrown
objects, inspect the work area and remove
stones, glass, pieces of metal and other objects
that could be thrown by the cutting attachment.
@ 5.7.4.
To reduce the risk of personal injury
from thrown objects, keep bystanders
at least 50 ft. (15 m) away, @ 5.7.4.
To reduce the risk of injury or property damage
from unintended activation, remove the
activation key any time the trimmer is not in use,
@ 7.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from a short circuit, fire or explosion,
keep the trimmer dry. Protect it from rain, water,
liquids and damp conditions. Never immerse the
trimmer in water or other liquids, @ 5.5.

To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire, explosion or burns, including
chemical burns, do not disassemble the
trimmer's housing. Never crush, drop, damage
or heat the trimmer above 212 °F (100 °C),
expose it to fire or incinerate, @ 5.5.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire, use and store the trimmer only
within an ambient temperature range of 32 °F to
122 °F (0 °C to 50 °C), @ 5.6.
To reduce the risk of personal injury or property
damage from fire or electric shock, keep the
charger dry. Protect it from rain, water, liquids
and damp conditions. For indoor use only, @ 6.

4)Dress Properly – Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry.
They can be caught in moving parts. Heavy-duty work
gloves (e.g. made of leather or other wear resistant
material) and substantial footwear are recommended
when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to
contain long hair.
5)Use Safety Glasses – Always use face or dust mask if
operation is dusty.
6)Use Right Tool – Do not use tool for any job except that for
which it is intended.
7)Avoid Unintentional Starting – Do not carry trimmer with
finger on the trigger switch.
8)Don’t Force Trimmer – It will do the job better and with less
likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate for which it was
designed.
9)Don’t Overreach – Keep proper footing and balance at all
times.
10)Stay Alert – Watch what you are doing. Use common
sense. Do not operate trimmer when you are tired.
11)Store Trimmer Indoors – When not in use, trimmer should
be stored indoors in a dry, locked place out of reach of
children with the activation key removed.
12)Maintain Trimmer With Care – Keep cutting attachment
clean for best performance and to reduce the risk of injury.
Follow instructions for changing accessories. Keep
handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
13)Check Damaged Parts – Before further use of the
trimmer, a guard or other part that is damaged should be
carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly
and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of
moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts,
mounting, and any other condition that may affect its
operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be
properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service
center unless indicated elsewhere in this manual.

5.2 Intended Use
WARNING
￭ This trimmer is designed for light duty cutting of grass and
similar material in yards and gardens around the home.
Use of the trimmer for operations different than intended
could result in serious injury or death.
– Use the trimmer only for light-duty trimming tasks
around the home and garden.
– Cut grass and similar material only. Do not use the
trimmer for cutting shrubs, bushes or other types of
heavy vegetation.
￭ Improper use could result in personal injury or property
damage, including damage to the trimmer.
– Use the trimmer and charger only as described in
this manual.
– Never attempt to modify or override the trimmer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a trimmer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ The LK 45 charger (power supply) is designed for
charging STIHL HSA 45, FSA 45 and BGA 45 power tools
only.

5.3 Operator
WARNING
￭ Working with the trimmer can be strenuous. The operator
must be in good physical condition and mental health. To
reduce the risk of personal injury from fatigue and loss of
control:
– Check with your doctor before using the trimmer if
you have any health condition that may be
aggravated by strenuous work.
– Do not operate the trimmer while under the influence
of any substance (drug, alcohol or medication, etc.)
that might impair vision, balance, dexterity or
judgment.
– Be alert. Do not operate the trimmer when you are
tired. Take a break if you become tired.
– Do not permit minors to use the trimmer.
￭ According to STIHL's current knowledge, the electric
motor of this trimmer should not interfere with a
pacemaker.
– However, persons with a pacemaker or other
implanted medical device should consult their
physician and device manufacturer before operating
this trimmer.
5.4 Personal Protective Equipment
WARNING
￭ Even a properly installed and adjusted deflector may not
protect the operator from all foreign objects thrown back
by the cutting attachment. Thrown objects may also
ricochet and strike the operator. To reduce the risk of
personal injury:
– Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection.
￭ Loss of control and severe cut injuries may result if hair,
clothing or apparel make contact with the moving cutting
attachment or otherwise become entangled in the
components of the trimmer. To reduce the risk of severe
personal injury:
– Avoid loose-fitting jackets, scarves, neckties, flared
or cuffed pants, jewelry and any other apparel that
could be caught on branches, brush or the moving
cutting attachment.
– Secure hair above shoulder level before starting
work.
￭ To reduce the risk of eye injury:
– If there is a risk of facial injury, STIHL recommends
that you also wear a face shield or face screen over
your goggles or protective glasses.
– Wear an approved protective helmet, when there is
a risk of head injury.
￭ Good footing is very important. To help maintain a secure
footing and reduce the risk of injury while working:
￭ To improve your grip and help protect your hands:
– Wear sturdy and snug-fitting clothing that
also allows complete freedom of
movement.
– Wear overalls or long pants made of
heavy material to help protect your legs.
Do not wear shorts.
– Always wear goggles or close-fitting
protective glasses with adequate side
protection that are impact-rated and
marked as complying with ANSI Z87 "+".
– Wear substantial footwear with non-slip
soles. Do not wear sandals, flip-flops,
open-toed or similar footwear.
– Always wear heavy-duty non-slip work
gloves made of leather or another wear-
resistant material when handling the
trimmer.

5.5 Trimmer
WARNING
￭ To reduce the risk of electric shock:
￭ If the moving cutting attachment contacts you, it will result
in serious laceration injuries. To reduce the risk of such
injuries:
– Keep hands, feet and other parts of your body away
from the cutting attachment.
– Never touch the moving cutting attachment with your
hand or any other part of your body.
– Never operate the trimmer with a damaged or
missing deflector.
￭ This battery-powered trimmer is intended only for light-
duty garden and landscape maintenance around the
home. Use for other purposes may increase the risk of
personal injury and property damage.
– Cut grass and similar material only. Do not use the
trimmer for cutting brush, shrubs, bushes or other
types of heavy vegetation.
– Read and follow the operating instructions in this
manual for approved applications, @ 16.
￭ To reduce the risk of personal injury to the operator and
bystanders:
￭ Although certain unauthorized attachments may fit your
STIHL trimmers, their use may be extremely dangerous.
Only attachments supplied by STIHL or expressly
approved by STIHL for use with this specific model are
recommended.
– Use only attachments supplied or expressly
approved by STIHL.
– Never attempt to mount a metal blade for use on the
trimmer.
– Never modify this trimmer in any way.
– Never attempt to modify or override the trimmer's
controls or safety devices in any way.
– Never use a trimmer that has been modified or
altered from its original design.
￭ If the trimmer is dropped or subjected to similar heavy
impacts:
– Check that it is undamaged, in good condition and
functioning properly before continuing work.
– Check that the controls and safety devices are
working properly.
– Check the LEDs for error messages, @ 10.1.
– Never work with a damaged or malfunctioning
trimmer.
– Never use or charge a trimmer with a housing that is
cracked, deformed, excessively hot, leaking battery
fluid or otherwise damaged. These could be signs
that the battery inside the trimmer is damaged,
increasing the risk of personal injury and property
damage from short circuit, fire or explosion. In case
of doubt, have the trimmer checked by your
authorized STIHL servicing dealer.
￭ If the trimmer is damaged, not working properly, has been
left outdoors, exposed to rain or damp conditions or
dropped into water or other liquid, its components,
– Do not expose the trimmer to rain, water
or excessive moisture.
– Store the trimmer indoors.
– Never immerse the trimmer in water or
other liquids.
– Always release the trigger switch and
remove the activation key before
assembling, transporting, adjusting,
inspecting, cleaning, servicing,
maintaining or storing the trimmer and
any other time it is not in use.

including its integrated battery, may no longer function
properly and safety devices may be inoperative. To
reduce the risk of personal injury and property damage:
– Take the trimmer to your authorized STIHL servicing
dealer to be checked before further operation.
￭ Genuine STIHL replacement parts are specifically
designed to match your trimmer and meet safety and
performance requirements. Use of parts that are not
authorized or approved by STIHL may cause serious or
fatal injury or property damage.
– STIHL recommends that only identical STIHL
replacement parts be used.
5.6 Integrated Battery
WARNING
￭ Use of an unauthorized charging device can damage the
lithium ion battery inside the trimmer and result in fire,
explosion and personal injury and property damage.
– Charge the trimmer only with a genuine
STIHL LK 45 charger (power supply).
￭ The trimmer's integrated battery contains safety features
and devices which, if damaged, may allow it to generate
heat, rupture, leak, ignite or explode.
– Be alert for signs that the battery may be damaged:
never use or charge a trimmer with a housing that is
cracked, deformed, excessively hot, leaking battery
fluid or otherwise damaged.
– Never attempt to remove the battery or open or
disassemble the trimmer's housing for any reason.
– Never subject the trimmer to heavy impacts or

5.7 Using the Trimmer
5.7.1 Before Operation

– Use the trimmer only as described in this instruction
manual.
￭ For proper assembly of the cutting attachment, deflector
and handle:
– Read and follow the instructions on mounting the
cutting attachment, deflector and handle, @ 11.
￭ The cutting attachment and deflector must be an
approved combination. Before replacing:
– Read and follow the instructions on selecting the
proper cutting attachment and deflector, @ 24.1.
￭ The cutting attachment must be properly installed and
tightened before starting work. Failure to use the proper
parts to mount the cutting attachment may cause the head
to fly off and seriously injure the operator or bystanders.
– Never mount a cutting attachment to the trimmer
without the proper installation of all required parts
(e.g., nuts, screws, thrust washer, thrust plate, etc.).
– Before starting work, inspect for loose parts (nuts,
screws, etc.) and for cracked or damaged heads.
– Replace damaged heads before using the power

– Never operate a trimmer that is modified, damaged,
improperly maintained or not completely and

– Always check your trimmer for proper condition and
operation, particularly the retaining latch, trigger
switch lockout, trigger switch, deflector and cutting
attachment.
– Ensure that the retaining latch, trigger switch lockout
and trigger switch move freely and spring back into
place when released. The trigger switch must not
engage until the retaining latch is unlocked and the
trigger switch lockout is depressed.
– Never attempt to modify or override the controls or
safety devices.
– The cutting attachment must engage only when the
activation key is inserted, the retaining latch is
unlocked and the trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch are depressed.
– If your trimmer or any part is damaged or does not
function properly, take it to your authorized STIHL
servicing dealer. Do not use the trimmer until the
problem has been corrected.
￭ Before inserting the activation key:
– Check the electrical contacts of the activation key
and activation key socket for corrosion or other
foreign matter. Keep clean.
– Never insert a damaged, deformed or corroded
activation key.
– Read and follow the instructions on switching on the
trimmer, @ 14.1.
￭ To help reduce the risk of serious personal injury or death
from unintentional starting:
– Be sure the retaining latch is in the locked position
before inserting the activation key.
– Never carry the trimmer with your finger on the

￭ Working with the cutting attachment above ground level or
perpendicular to the ground increases the risk of severe
injury from thrown objects. It also exposes more of the
cutting attachment and makes the trimmer more difficult to
control, increasing the risk of injury. To reduce the risk of
serious or fatal injury from loss of control or thrown objects
when trimming:
– Keep the cutting attachment at ground level, parallel
to the ground.
￭ Always adjust the drive tube position and trimmer head
angle before using the unit for edging, @ 12.3. To reduce
the risk of serious or fatal injury from loss of control or
thrown objects when the trimmer is converted in this
manner:
– Always hold the control handle with your right hand
and the loop handle with your left hand (see
illustration).
– Keep the drive tube and cutting attachment to the
right side of your body while working, ensuring that
the deflector is positioned between the cutting
attachment and your body at all times
– Always adjust the position of the loop handle and
length of the drive shaft to suit your height and
reach. Always maintain a comfortable and effective
working position.

5.7.3 Working Conditions

￭ Operate your trimmer only under good visibility during
favorable daylight conditions.
– Postpone the work if the weather is windy, foggy,
rainy or inclement.
￭ Your trimmer is a one-person machine.
– Bystanders, especially children, and animals should
not be allowed in the area where it is in use.
– Switch off the trimmer immediately if you are
approached.
￭ To reduce the risk of injury to bystanders and
unauthorized users:
– Never leave the trimmer unattended when the
activation key is inserted.
– Switch off the trimmer and remove the activation key
during work breaks and any other time the trimmer is
not in use.
￭ Sparks generated from operation of the trimmer may be
capable of igniting combustible gases, liquids, vapors,
dusts or other combustible materials and substances. To
reduce the risk of fire and explosion:
– Never operate the trimmer in a location where
combustible gases, liquids, vapors, dusts or other

– Read and follow recommendations issued by
government authorities (e.g., OSHA) for identifying

cannot be kept at or near background levels, always
wear a respirator that is approved by NIOSH and
rated for worksite-specific conditions. Follow the
recommendations of governmental authorities (e.g.,
OSHA/NIOSH) and occupational and trade
associations.
￭ If the vegetation being cut or the surrounding ground is
coated with a chemical substance, such as a pesticide or
herbicide:
– Read and follow the instructions and warnings that
accompanied the substance coating the vegetation
or surrounding ground.
5.7.4 Operating Instructions

￭ In the event of an emergency:
– Switch off the motor immediately and remove the
activation key.
￭ The cutting attachment continues to rotate for a short
period after the trigger switch is fully released. This is
known as the "flywheel effect." To reduce the risk of
serious personal injury from contact with the cutting
attachment:
￭ The rotating cutting attachment may fling foreign objects
directly or by ricochet a great distance. Thrown objects,
including broken cutting attachments, may cause serious
or fatal injury to the operator or bystanders. To reduce the

– To reduce the risk of damage to property, also
maintain this distance from such objects as vehicles
and windows.
– Maintaining a minimum distance of 50 ft. (15 m)
cannot eliminate the potential risk of personal injury
and property damage from thrown objects.
– Switch off the motor immediately if you are
approached while working with the trimmer.
￭ Your trimmer is equipped with a deflector. To reduce the
risk of personal injury from thrown objects and contact
with the cutting attachment:
– Wait for the cutting attachment to stop
before walking with the trimmer or
putting it down.
– Inspect the work area. Remove stones,

that could be thrown by the cutting

6.1 Warnings and Instructions

charger and trimmer and all instructions in this

– Use the STIHL LK 45 charger (power supply) only
for charging STIHL HSA 45, FSA 45 and BGA 45
power tools. Using the STIHL LK 45 for other

– Do not handle the charger, including power supply
cord and plug, with wet hands.

7 Maintenance, Repair and Storage
– Never jerk the power supply cord to disconnect it
from the electrical outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug,
not the power supply cord.
– Do not use the power supply cord for carrying or
hanging up the charger.
– Make sure the power supply cord is located or
marked so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over,
come in contact with sharp objects or moving parts,
or otherwise be subjected to damage or stress.
￭ An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely
necessary. Overloading an extension cord can result in
overheating and fire. If an extension cord must be used:
– Use only a properly wired 16 gauge (AWG 16) or
heavier gauge extension cord.
– Never connect more than one charger or other
device to an extension cord.
– Never use an extension cord with a wattage rating
lower than the wattage on your charger's rating
plate.
– Never use an extension cord if the blades on its plug
are different from the blades on the charger plug in
number, size or shape.
– Do not link (chain) extension cords.

emits smoke, an unusual smell, feels hot or appears

– Immediately disconnect the charger from the outlet.
Contact the authorities in the event of fire or

8.1 Preparing the Trimmer for Operation
Before starting work:

9.1 Charging
WARNING
Read and follow the trimmer and charger safety precautions

signs that the integrated battery may be damaged. To
reduce the risk of fire and explosion, never use or charge a
trimmer with a housing that is cracked, deformed,
excessively hot, leaking battery fluid or otherwise damaged,
@ 5.6.
WARNING
Since the trimmer and charger heat up during the charging
process, do not charge the trimmer on a combustible surface
or in a location where combustible gases, liquids, vapors,
dusts or other combustible materials or substances are

10 LED Diagnostics
To charge the trimmer:
► Remove the activation key, @ 13.2.
► Insert the charger plug into a properly installed electrical
outlet (6) with the same voltage and electrical frequency
stated on the charger's rating plate (5).
► Push the connector (3) into the trimmer's charging
socket (2) until it stops.
The LEDs on the trimmer (1) glow green during charging
and show the state of charge.
When the LEDs on the trimmer go out, the charging
process is complete and the charger will shut itself off.
► Remove the charger from the trimmer and disconnect the
charger plug from the electrical outlet when charging is
complete.
A trimmer is not fully charged when it ships from the factory.
STIHL recommends that you fully charge the trimmer before
using it the first time.
Operate the charger only indoors, in dry rooms and within an
ambient temperature range of 32 °F to 104 °F (0 °C to
40 °C).
The trimmer heats up during operation. The charging
process begins only after the trimmer and its integrated
battery have cooled down sufficiently.
Charging time depends on a number of factors, including the
condition of the integrated battery and the ambient
temperature. For a complete list of approximate charging
times, see www.stihl.com/charging-times.
Operation of the trimmer is disabled during charging and any
time the trimmer is connected to the charger.
10.1 Trimmer Status
LEDs on the trimmer show the status of the power tool and
its integrated battery.
If three LEDs glow red continuously: the integrated battery
is either too hot or too cold. Allow the trimmer to warm up or
cool down gradually at an ambient temperature of about
50 °F to 68 °F (10 °C to 20 °C).
If three LEDs flash red when you activate the trigger switch:
the trimmer has an electrical malfunction. Do not operate or
charge the trimmer. Have it checked by an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer before use or storage.

10.2 Charge Status
The LEDs also show the trimmer's state of charge.
To determine the trimmer's state of charge:
► Press the push button (1) on the trimmer.
The LEDs on the trimmer will glow or flash green for about
5 seconds and indicate the state of charge (see

11.1 Mounting the Deflector
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects or contact
with the cutting attachment, never operate the trimmer
without a properly mounted deflector. Keep bystanders at
least 50 ft. (15 m) away.
To mount the deflector:
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the activation key, @ 13.2.
► Push the deflector (2) into the guides on the housing until
it stops.
The deflector must be tight against the housing.
► Insert and tighten the screws (3).
The line limiting blade (1) comes mounted in the deflector
and may not be removed.

To mount trimmer line on the PolyCut 2-2:
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the activation key, @ 13.2.
► From below, push the trimmer line up through the right
mounting hole and pull it back down through the left
mounting hole until it is even with the bottom of the arrow
(1).
► Hold the short end of the trimmer line firmly as you pull the
long end downward and then out through the notch in the
mowing head. Make sure the trimmer line is firmly seated
in the notch (2).

► Repeat the mounting process on the other side of the
mowing head with the second length of line.
► Cut the trimmer line so that it extends to the line limiting
blade.
NOTICE
Using the trimmer with overly long trimmer line increases the
load on the motor and reduces its operating speed. This may
result in overheating and damage to important components.
11.2.2 Mounting Polymer Blades

mounted before starting work. Operating the trimmer with
only one blade will reduce cutting performance and may
damage the trimmer.

WARNING

trimmer head adjustment latch are locked and secured at all
times while working.
The trimmer can be converted for use in edging applications.
To convert the FSA 45:
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the activation key, @ 13.2.
► Depress and hold the drive tube release button (1).
► Turn the loop handle (2) 90° around the drive tube until it
locks.
► Release the drive tube release button.
► Press and hold the trimmer head adjustment latch (4).

14.1 Switching On
WARNING
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries to the operator
or bystanders, keep hands, feet and other parts of the body
away from the cutting attachment, @ 5.7.2. Do not touch
the cutting attachment while the activation key is inserted.
Never touch the moving cutting attachment with your hand
or any part of your body, @ 5.7.4.
WARNING
Never operate your trimmer if it is modified, damaged,
improperly adjusted or maintained, not completely and
securely assembled or not functioning properly, @ 5.5. To
reduce the risk of personal injury, always wear proper
clothing and protective apparel, including proper eye
protection, when operating your trimmer, @ 5.4. To reduce
the risk of serious or fatal injury from loss of control, always
hold the trimmer with both hands when you are working,
@ 5.7.2.
Before switching on:
► Make sure you have a secure and firm footing.
► Stand upright.
► Always hold and operate the trimmer with one hand firmly
on the rear or control handle and the other hand firmly on
the front or loop handle.
To switch the trimmer on:
► Insert the activation key.
► Unlock the retaining latch (1) by pushing it forward with
your thumb. Hold it in this unlocked position.
► Depress and hold the trigger switch lockout (2).
The retaining latch can be released and will stay in the
unlocked position.
► Squeeze the trigger switch (3) with your index finger.
The cutting attachment will start moving.
The motor will not switch on unless the retaining latch is
unlocked and the trigger switch lockout and trigger switch
are pressed at the same time.
14.2 Switching Off
WARNING
The cutting attachment will continue to move for a short
while after the trigger switch is released. To avoid serious or
fatal injury, avoid contact with the moving cutting
attachment. To reduce the risk of personal injury from
unintended activation or unauthorized use, switch off the
motor, ensure the cutting attachment has stopped and
remove the activation key before transporting or putting the
trimmer down.

15 Checking the Trimmer
To switch the trimmer off:
► Release the trigger switch and trigger switch lockout.
Once the trigger switch and trigger switch lockout have
been released, the retaining latch will return to its locked
position and activation of the trigger switch will be
blocked.
The cutting attachment will continue to move for a short time
after the trigger switch is released. Take care to avoid
contact after releasing the trigger switch and when setting
down the trimmer.
15.1 Testing the Controls
Before starting work, confirm that the retaining latch (1),
trigger switch lockout (2) and trigger switch (3) are
undamaged and functioning properly:

the retaining latch and depressing the trigger switch
lockout, take the trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer to be repaired before use.
► Insert the activation key.
► Hold the trimmer firmly with both hands, your fingers
wrapped tightly around the handles. Unlock the retaining
latch and depress the trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch momentarily.
The trimmer should switch on. If it does not, take the
trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.
► Release the trigger switch.
The trimmer should switch off.
► If the cutting attachment does not stop after you release
the trigger switch, remove the activation key and take the
trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.

15.2 Checking the Mowing Head and Cutting
Attachment
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from damaged or broken parts,
check the condition of the trimmer, mowing head and cutting
attachment before starting work and at regular, short
intervals thereafter. Do not operate the trimmer with broken,
damaged or malfunctioning parts, @ 5.7.1.
Before starting work, and periodically thereafter, check the
mowing head and cutting attachment for wear or damage:
► Switch off the trimmer and remove the activation key.
► If the wear mark (A) on the mowing head becomes visible,
do not use the trimmer. Have the mowing head replaced
before operating the power tool.
► Replace the polymer blades if they reduce in length to less
than 1.8 in. (45 mm) (shown by distance a, above).
Always replace both polymer blades or both pieces of
nylon line at the same time.
► Do not use the mowing head if the polymer blades are
worn or damaged (B).
Replace the polymer blades immediately.
16.1 Using the Trimmer
WARNING
To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the
moving cutting attachment, @ 5.7.4.
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury, never work with the
trimmer in the rain or in wet or damp conditions, @ 5.5.
Always wear proper clothing and protective apparel,
including proper eye protection, when operating your
trimmer, @ 5.4. Keep bystanders at least 50 ft. (15 m) away
from the work area, @ 5.7.4. Work carefully and maintain
proper control of the trimmer, @ 5.7.2.
The trimmer is designed for two-handed operation.
► Swing the trimmer back and forth carefully in a controlled
arc parallel to the ground.
► Move forward slowly, keeping two hands on the trimmer at
all times.
When trimming, a bump guard (1) limits the cutting range of
the mowing line and helps prevent unwanted damage to
vegetation in certain circumstances. Always remove the
activation key before mounting or adjusting the bump guard.
If the trimmer is used or stored at ambient temperatures
above 86 °F (30 °C), its runtime and performance may be
reduced.

17 After Finishing Work
Runtime and cutting performance depend on a number of
factors, including ambient temperatures, the type of grass
being cut, the age and condition of the integrated battery
and the type of cutting attachment being used.
When mounted with nylon trimmer line, runtime is
approximately half of the runtime available when mounted
with PolyCut 2-2 polymer blades. To optimize runtime,
STIHL recommends mounting polymer blades on your
PolyCut 2-2 mowing head.
Observe all applicable laws, regulations, standards and
ordinances.
STIHL recommends keeping nylon line or polymer blades in
a water bath for at least 12 to 24 hours before use to
increase their useful life.
16.2 Using the FSA 45 for Edging
WARNING
When the FSA 45 is converted for edging, always hold the
control handle with your right hand and the loop handle with
your left hand to reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects
and contact with the cutting attachment, @ 5.7.2.
► Switch off the trimmer, @ 14.2.
► Remove the activation key, @ 13.2.
► Convert the trimmer for edging and fully extend the bump
guard, @ 12.3.
► Hold and guide the unit so that the cutting attachment
rotates perpendicular to the ground.
► Move the trimmer along the edge of the lawn.
► When edging, use the bump guard to help regulate cutting
depth.
17.1 Preparing for Transportation or Storage
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from unintended
activation or unauthorized use, switch off the motor, ensure
the cutting attachment has stopped and remove the
activation key before transporting the trimmer or putting it
down.
To prepare the trimmer for transportation or storage:

19 Storing the Trimmer and Charger
When transporting the trimmer:
► Adjust the drive tube to its shortest length, @ 12.1.
► When transporting the trimmer by hand, hold the drive
tube in a manner that balances the trimmer horizontally.
Keep the cutting attachment pointing backwards, opposite
the direction in which you are walking.
► When transporting the trimmer in a vehicle, secure and
position it to prevent turnover, impact and damage.
A Note on Battery Transport
The battery inside this trimmer complies with the
requirements set forth in UN-Manual
ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5/Part III, Subsection 38.3.
Commercial air, vessel and ground transportation of lithium
ion cells and batteries contained in equipment is regulated.
The battery inside this trimmer is classified as a UN 3481,
Class 9, packaging group II product. Shipping it requires
compliance with all applicable shipping regulations. Check
with the ground, vessel, air cargo or passenger airline to
determine if transport is prohibited or subject to restrictions

24 Approved Deflector and Cutting Attachment Combinations
24.1 STIHL FSA 45
WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury from thrown objects and
contact with the cutting attachment, never operate the
trimmer without the proper deflector and loop handle,
@ 5.7.4. Ensure that the deflector and loop handle are
properly mounted and adjusted at all times while working.
Never use metal blades or metal-reinforced line on this
trimmer, @ 5.7.4.
The deflector provided with the FSA 45 is the only
authorized deflector for this unit. When properly installed, it
is designed to reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects
and inadvertent contact with the cutting attachment.
The FSA 45 is approved for use only with the PolyCut 2-2
mowing head, which may be operated only with the following
cutting attachments:
– Nylon Trimmer Line: round quiet line with a diameter of
0.065 in. (1.6 mm).
– Rigid Polymer Blades: PolyCut 2-2 polymer blades.
The specified nylon trimmer line and the PolyCut 2-2
polymer blades are authorized for use in both the trimmer
and edger-trimmer configurations.
25.1 Genuine STIHL Replacement Parts
STIHL recommends the use of genuine STIHL replacement
parts. Genuine STIHL parts can be identified by the STIHL
part number, the logo and, in some cases, by the
STIHL parts symbol . The symbol may appear alone on
small parts.
26.1 Disposal of the Trimmer and Charger
WARNING
Even if believed to be discharged, the lithium ion battery
integrated into the trimmer may never totally discharge and
still may deliver a dangerous short circuit current. Handle a
discharged/depleted trimmer carefully. If damaged or
exposed to high temperatures, it may leak, generate heat,
catch fire or explode.
STIHL products must not be thrown in household trash or
disposed of except as provided in this manual.
► Take the trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer
to have its integrated battery removed and recycled.
► Take the charger, accessories and packaging to an
approved disposal site for environmentally friendly
recycling.
► Observe all federal, state and local disposal rules and
regulations.
► Contact your authorized STIHL servicing dealer for the
latest information on disposal and recycling.

3.1 Motoguadaña y cargador
La motoguadaña cuenta con la alimentación de una batería
integrada de ion de litio que no se puede retirar de la
herramienta eléctrica.
1 Mango de control
Mango para la mano trasera del operador.
2 Bloqueo del gatillo
Se debe presionar mientras el pestillo de retención está
desbloqueado para permitir la activación del gatillo.

1)Evite los entornos peligrosos - No utilice motoguadañas
en lugares húmedos ni mojados.
2)No las use bajo la lluvia.
3)Mantenga alejados a los niños - Las demás personas
deben mantenerse alejadas de la zona de trabajo.
4)Use vestimenta apropiada - No use ropa suelta ni joyas.
Estos elementos pueden quedar atrapados en las piezas
en movimiento. Se recomienda usar guantes de trabajo
gruesos (por ejemplo, fabricados de cuero u otro material

12)Cuide la motoguadaña - Mantenga el accesorio de corte
limpio para obtener el mejor rendimiento y reducir el
riesgo de lesiones. Al sustituir accesorios, aténgase a las
instrucciones del caso. Mantenga los mangos secos,
limpios y sin aceite ni grasa.
13)Revise las piezas dañadas - Antes de seguir usando la

5.3 Operador
ADVERTENCIA
￭ El uso de la motoguadaña puede ser extenuante. El
operador debe hallarse en buenas condiciones tanto
físicas como mentales. Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones

– Consulte a su médico antes de usar la motoguadaña

5.4 Equipos de protección personal
ADVERTENCIA
￭ Un deflector correctamente instalado y ajustado podría no
proteger al usuario de todos los objetos extraños que
arroje el accesorio de corte. Los objetos arrojados o
lanzados por el accesorio también pueden rebotar y

5.6 Batería integrada

– Cargue la motoguadaña solo con un cargador

integrada de la motoguadaña genere calor, se rompa,
pierda líquido, se incendie o explote, lo que podría causar

propiedad. La exposición a temperaturas fuera del rango
recomendado también puede dañar la batería.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones personales o daños a la
propiedad en caso de que la motoguadaña emane humo
o un olor inusual, o esté más caliente de lo habitual
durante el uso, la carga o el almacenamiento:
– Inmediatamente deje de usar o cargar la
motoguadaña. Póngase en contacto con las
autoridades en caso de incendio o explosión.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de descarga eléctrica:
– Nunca coloque un puente entre los contactos
eléctricos del tomacorriente de la llave de activación
con cables u otros objetos metálicos (por ejemplo,
presillas de papel, clavos, monedas, llaves).
– Guarde la motoguadaña bajo techo, en un lugar
seco.
– Nunca guarde la motoguadaña en entornos
húmedos o corrosivos, o en condiciones que
pudieran generar la corrosión de sus componentes
metálicos o de la batería.
– Proteja la motoguadaña de la exposición a agentes
corrosivos, como productos químicos de jardinería y
sales de deshielo, ya que esto podría dañar la
batería y aumentar el riesgo de cortocircuito,
incendio y explosión.
– No intente reparar, abrir o desarmar la
motoguadaña. No contiene en su interior piezas que
el usuario pueda reparar.
– Nunca caliente la motoguadaña por
encima de los 100 °C (212 °F) ni la
coloque cerca del fuego, estufas u otros
lugares con altas temperaturas, ni la
coloque sobre estos lugares.
– Utilice y guarde la motoguadaña
únicamente a una temperatura ambiente
de 0 °C a 50 °C (32 °F a 122 °F).
– No guarde la motoguadaña en un lugar
con luz solar directa ni dentro de un
vehículo en climas calurosos.
– Mantenga la motoguadaña seca.
Protéjala de la lluvia y asegúrese de que
la motoguadaña y la batería nunca estén
expuestas al agua, líquidos o
condiciones de humedad.
– Nunca sumerja la motoguadaña en agua

es posible que pierda líquido. El líquido que se escapa de
la batería puede irritar la piel y los ojos, y causar
quemaduras.
– Evite el contacto con la piel y los ojos.
– Use un absorbente inerte, como arena, sobre los
líquidos derramados.
– En caso de contacto accidental, lave el área de
contacto inmediatamente con agua y un jabón
suave.
– Si entra líquido en los ojos: No se frote. Enjuague el
ojo abierto con agua por al menos 15 minutos y
busque atención médica.
￭ Un incendio causado por baterías puede ser peligroso.
Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones personales graves y
daños a la propiedad en caso de incendio:
– Evacúe el área. El fuego se puede propagar
rápidamente. Manténgase alejado de los vapores
generados y mantenga una distancia segura.
– Póngase en contacto con el departamento de
bomberos.

incendio de la batería, es preferible usar un extintor
de incendios de polvo químico multiuso.

5.7 Uso de la motoguadaña
5.7.1 Antes del uso
ADVERTENCIA
￭ El uso inadecuado o no autorizado puede causar lesiones
personales o daños a la propiedad.
– Use la motoguadaña solo como se describe en este
manual de instrucciones.
￭ Para instalar correctamente el accesorio de corte, el
deflector y el mango:
– Lea y siga las instrucciones de montaje del
accesorio de corte, el deflector y el mango, @ 11.
￭ El accesorio de corte y el deflector deben ser una
combinación aprobada. Antes de cambiarlos:
– Lea y siga las instrucciones de elección correcta de
un accesorio de corte y un deflector, @ 24.1.
￭ El accesorio de corte debe estar correctamente instalado
y ajustado antes de empezar a trabajar. Si no se utilizan
las piezas correctas para instalar el accesorio de corte se
puede producir el desprendimiento de la cabeza y
lesionar gravemente al operador o a las personas que
encuentren en su proximidad.
– Nunca instale un accesorio de corte en la
motoguadaña sin la instalación adecuada de todas
las piezas requeridas (p. ej., tuercas, tornillos,
arandela de empuje, placa de empuje, etc.).
– Antes de comenzar el trabajo, busque piezas
sueltas (tuercas, tornillos, etc.) y cabezas
agrietadas o dañadas.
– Sustituya las cabezas dañadas antes de usar la
herramienta motorizada.
￭ Es extremadamente importante utilizar únicamente la
combinación aprobada de accesorio de corte y deflector
para obtener el desempeño máximo y reducir el riesgo de
lesiones personales causadas por objetos lanzados o por
el contacto con el accesorio de corte.
– Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones graves, nunca use
un hilo de alambre o reforzado con metal ni ningún
otro material en lugar del hilo de corte de nilón

se armó por completo y de forma segura puede generar
un defecto y aumentar el riesgo de lesiones personales
graves o mortales.
– No maneje nunca una motoguadaña que esté
modificada, dañada, mal ajustada o que no fue
armada por completo y debidamente.
– Siempre revise que la motoguadaña esté en buenas
condiciones y funcione correctamente, en especial
el pestillo de retención, el bloqueo del gatillo, el
gatillo, el deflector y el accesorio de corte.
– Asegúrese de que el pestillo de retención, el
bloqueo del gatillo y el gatillo se muevan libremente
y siempre regresen a la posición de parada al
soltarlos. El gatillo no debe oprimirse hasta que se
desbloquee el pestillo de retención y se pulse el
bloqueo del gatillo.

momento. Protéjalos de la humedad, el alquitrán, el

sufran lesiones graves o mortales por la pérdida del
control:
– Siempre sujete la motoguadaña firmemente con
ambas manos mientras trabaje.
– Envuelva los dedos firmemente en los mangos,
manteniéndolos sujetos entre los dedos índice y
pulgar (vea la ilustración).
– Coloque la motoguadaña en una posición tal que
todas las partes de su cuerpo estén lejos del
accesorio de corte cuando se inserte la llave de
activación.
￭ Trabajar con el accesorio de corte sobre el nivel del suelo
o perpendicular al suelo aumenta el riesgo de lesiones
causadas por objetos arrojados. También deja más
expuesto el accesorio de corte y hace que la

– Mantenga el accesorio de corte a nivel del suelo,
paralelo a este.

de la cabeza de corte antes de utilizar la unidad para

– Siempre sujete el mango de control con la mano

a la derecha de su cuerpo mientras trabaja, y
procure ubicar el deflector entre el accesorio de
corte y su cuerpo en todo momento.
– Siempre ajuste la posición del mango tórico y la
longitud del eje impulsor para adaptarlos a su altura
y alcance. Siempre mantenga una posición de
trabajo cómoda y eficaz.

mucha vegetación o húmedo, y para evitar
tropezarse o caerse, siempre esté atento a los
obstáculos ocultos, tales como tocones, raíces,
piedras, hoyos y zanjas.
– Sea sumamente precavido cuando trabaje en
declives o terreno irregular.
– Para obtener un punto de apoyo seguro, quite
siempre las ramas caídas, los arbustos, el material
cortado y cualquier otro objeto o vegetación que
pueda aumentar el peligro de resbalarse, tropezarse
o caerse.
– Nunca ponga la motoguadaña en funcionamiento a
una altura más arriba de la cintura.
– No trate de llegar más lejos de lo debido.
￭ La motoguadaña debe estar equilibrada para lograr un
control correcto y menos fatiga durante el uso.
– Ajuste la longitud del tubo de mando y la posición del
mango tórico para lograr y mantener una posición de

5.7.3 Condiciones de trabajo

￭ Ponga la motoguadaña en funcionamiento solamente en
condiciones de buena visibilidad y a la luz del día.
– Posponga los trabajos si el tiempo está ventoso, con
neblina, lluvioso o inclemente.
￭ La motoguadaña es una máquina que debe ser manejada
por una sola persona.
– No se debe permitir la proximidad de otras
personas, especialmente de niños, ni de animales
en los lugares donde se esté utilizando la máquina.
– Apague la motoguadaña inmediatamente si se le
aproxima alguna persona.
￭ Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones a los espectadores y
usuarios no autorizados:
– No deje la motoguadaña desatendida si tiene la llave
de activación colocada.
– Apague la motoguadaña y quite la llave de
activación durante los descansos y en cualquier

toxicidad reproductora.
– Consulte con agencias gubernamentales tales como
EPA, OSHA, CARB y NIOSH, al igual que otras
fuentes fidedignas sobre materiales peligrosos si
desconoce los riesgos asociados con las sustancias
particulares que está cortando o con las cuales está
trabajando.
￭ La inhalación de ciertos polvos, especialmente los polvos

– Reemplace el cargador si el cordón eléctrico se

– Nunca tire del cable de suministro eléctrico para
desconectarlo del tomacorriente de pared. Para
desenchufarlo, sujete el enchufe y no el cordón.
– No use el cordón eléctrico para transportar ni
sostener el cargador.
– Compruebe que el cordón eléctrico esté ubicado o
marcado de modo que no se lo pise, cause
tropiezos, esté en contacto con objetos cortantes o
partes móviles o, de otro modo, sujeto a daño o
esfuerzo.
￭ No debería usarse un alargador a menos que sea
absolutamente necesario. Sobrecargar un alargador
puede provocar sobrecalentamiento e incendio. Si es
imprescindible utilizar un alargador:
– Solamente emplee un alargador debidamente
formado con alambres calibre 16 (AWG 16) o de
mayor calibre.
– Nunca conecte más de un cargador u otro
dispositivo a un alargador.
– Nunca use un alargador cuyo vataje sea inferior al
indicado en la placa de características del cargador.
– Nunca use un alargador si las clavijas del enchufe
difieren de las clavijas del enchufe del cargador en

9.1 Carga
ADVERTENCIA
Lea y siga las precauciones e instrucciones de seguridad de
la motoguadaña y del cargador dadas en este manual,
@ 5.5 y @ 6. Esté alerta a los signos que indican que la
batería integrada podría estar dañada. Para reducir el
riesgo de incendio y explosión, nunca use o cargue una
motoguadaña con la carcasa agrietada, deformada,
excesivamente caliente, que pierda líquido de la batería o
dañada de alguna otra manera, @ 5.6.
ADVERTENCIA
Dado que la motoguadaña y el cargador se calientan

frecuencia eléctrica indicados en la placa de capacidad
nominal del cargador (5).
► Inserte el conector (3) en el tomacorriente de carga (2) de
la motoguadaña hasta que haga tope.
Los LED de la motoguadaña (1) se iluminan en verde
durante la carga y muestran el estado de la carga.
Cuando se apagan los LED de la motoguadaña, el
proceso de carga está finalizado y el cargador se apaga a
sí mismo.
► Retire el conector de la motoguadaña y desconecte el
enchufe del cargador del tomacorriente cuando haya
finalizado la carga.
La motoguadaña no se despacha de la fábrica cargado
completamente. STIHL recomienda cargar completamente
la motoguadaña antes de usarla por primera vez.
Utilice el cargador bajo techo, únicamente en recintos
secos, y a una temperatura ambiente de 0 °C a 40 °C (32 °F
a 104 °F).

10 Diagnóstico de LED
La motoguadaña se calienta durante el funcionamiento. El
proceso de carga comienza después de que la
motoguadaña y la batería integrada se hayan enfriado lo
suficiente.
El tiempo de carga depende de varios factores, tales como
el estado de la batería integrada y la temperatura ambiente.
Para obtener una lista completa de tiempos de carga

El funcionamiento de la motoguadaña queda inhabilitado
durante la carga y siempre que la motoguadaña está
conectada al cargador.
10.1 Estado de la motoguadaña
Los LED de la motoguadaña muestran el estado de la
herramienta eléctrica y la batería integrada.
Si tres LED se encienden en rojo continuamente, la batería
integrada está demasiado caliente o demasiado fría. Deje
que la motoguadaña se caliente o se enfríe gradualmente a
una temperatura ambiente de aproximadamente 10 °C a
20 °C (50 °F a 68 °F).
Si tres LED destellan en rojo cuando activa el gatillo, la
motoguadaña tiene un defecto eléctrico. No opere ni cargue
la motoguadaña. Solicite a un concesionario de servicio
STIHL autorizado que la revise antes de usarlo.

10.2 Estado de carga
Los LED también muestran el estado de carga de la
motoguadaña.
Para determinar el estado de carga de la motoguadaña:
► Presione el pulsador (1) en la motoguadaña.
Los LED de la motoguadaña se encenderán o destellarán
en verde por unos 5 segundos e indicarán el estado de
carga (vea la ilustración).
Por ejemplo:
Si cuatro LED se encienden en verde continuamente, la
carga está completa.
Si un LED destella en verde, queda menos del 20 % de la
carga.
11.1 Montaje del deflector
ADVERTENCIA

maneje una motoguadaña sin un deflector debidamente

11.3 Montaje del mango tórico

15.1 Prueba de los controles

No ponga la motoguadaña en funcionamiento si tiene piezas
rotas, dañadas o averiadas, @ 5.7.1.
Antes de empezar a trabajar, y periódicamente de allí en
adelante, revise la cabeza segadora y el accesorio de corte
para detectar desgaste y daños:
► Apague la motoguadaña y quite la llave de activación.
► Si se visualiza la marca de desgaste (A) en la cabeza
segadora, no use la motoguadaña. Haga sustituir la
cabeza segadora antes de operar la herramienta
motorizada.
► Reemplace las cuchillas de polímero si su longitud se
reduce a menos de 45 mm (1,8 pulg) (se indica con la
distancia a, más arriba).
Siempre cambie ambas cuchillas de polímero o ambas
piezas del hilo de nilón al mismo tiempo.
► No utilice la cabeza segadora si las cuchillas de polímero
están desgastadas o dañadas (B).
Vuelva a colocar las cuchillas de polímero de inmediato.
16.1 Uso de la motoguadaña

La motoguadaña está diseñada para usarse con las dos
manos.
► Mueva la motoguadaña hacia uno y otro lado

Si la motoguadaña se usa o guarda a una temperatura
ambiente por encima de los 30 °C (86 °F), es posible que se
reduzcan su duración y rendimiento.
La duración y el rendimiento dependen de varios factores,
entre ellos, la temperatura ambiente, el tipo de pasto que se
corta, la antigüedad y el estado de la batería integrada y el
tipo de accesorio de corte que se utiliza.

17 Después de completar el trabajo
Si se utiliza hilo de nilón para motoguadañas, la duración
será aproximadamente la mitad de la duración que se puede
obtener con cuchillas de polímero PolyCut 2-2. Para
optimizar la duración, STIHL recomienda instalar cuchillas
de polímero en la cabeza segadora PolyCut 2-2.
Respete todas las leyes, disposiciones, reglamentos y
normas del caso.
STIHL recomienda guardar las cuchillas de polímero o de
hilo de nilón en un baño de agua durante 12 a 24 horas
como mínimo antes de usarlas para prolongar su vida útil.
16.2 Uso del modelo FSA 45 para cortar bordes
ADVERTENCIA
Cuando convierta el modelo FSA 45 para cortar bordes,

► Al cortar bordes, use el protector contra golpes para
regular la profundidad de corte.
17.1 Preparación para el transporte o el
almacenamiento

19 Almacenamiento de la motoguadaña y el cargador
Al transportar la motoguadaña:
► Ajuste el tubo de mando a la longitud más corta, @ 12.1.
► Cuando transporte la motoguadaña manualmente,
sostenga el tubo de mando de un modo que permita que
la motoguadaña se equilibre horizontalmente. Mantenga
el accesorio de corte apuntando hacia atrás, en dirección
opuesta a la que está caminando.
► Cuando transporte la motoguadaña en un vehículo, fíjela
y ubíquela de modo que no se tumbe, se golpee o se
dañe.
Una nota para el transporte de la batería
La batería dentro de la motoguadaña cumple con los
requisitos descritos en el Manual UN
ST/SG/AC.10/11/Ver.5/Parte III, Subsección 38.3.
El transporte comercial por aire, agua y tierra de celdas de
ion de litio y baterías contenidas dentro de equipos está
regulado. La batería dentro de la motoguadaña está
clasificada como un producto UN 3481, Clase 9 y grupo de
envasado II. El traslado de esta batería debe cumplir con
todas las normas de transporte correspondientes. Antes del

20 Limpieza

24 Combinaciones aprobadas de deflectores y accesorios de corte
24.1 STIHL FSA 45
ADVERTENCIA
Para reducir el riesgo de lesiones personales causadas por
objetos lanzados y por el contacto con el accesorio de corte,
nunca haga funcionar la motoguadaña si no tiene instalado
el deflector y el mango tórico adecuados, @ 5.7.4.
Asegúrese de que el deflector y el mango tórico estén
correctamente instalados y ajustados en todo momento
mientras trabaja. Nunca utilice cuchillas metálicas o hilo
reforzado con metal en esta motoguadaña, @ 5.7.4.
El deflector provisto con el modelo FSA 45 es el único
deflector autorizado para utilizar con esta unidad. Si se
instala correctamente, reduce el riesgo de lesiones
causadas por objetos lanzados y por el contacto accidental
con el accesorio de corte.
El modelo FSA 45 está aprobado para utilizarse solo con la
cabeza segadora PolyCut 2-2, que debe emplearse
únicamente con los siguientes accesorios de corte:
– Hilo de nilón para motoguadañas: hilo redondo o hilo
silencioso y redondo de 1,6 mm (0,065 pulg) de diámetro.
– Cuchillas rígidas de polímero: Cuchillas de polímero
PolyCut 2-2.
El hilo de nilón para motoguadañas y las cuchillas de
polímero PolyCut 2-2 especificados están autorizados para
utilizarlos en las configuraciones de motoguadaña y
orilladora/motoguadaña.

26.1 Eliminación de la motoguadaña y el cargador
ADVERTENCIA
Aunque parezca que está descargada, la batería de ion de
litio integrada en la motoguadaña nunca se descarga
completamente y puede generar una corriente de
cortocircuito peligrosa. Manipule la motoguadaña
descargada/agotada con cuidado. Si se daña o expone a
temperaturas altas, puede perder líquido, generar calor,
