Important Safe Operation Practices

Training

1. Read, understand and follow all instructions

on the machine and in the manual(s) before

attempting to assemble and operate.

Keep this manual in a safe place for future

and regular reference and for ordering

replacement parts.

2. Be familiar with all controls and their proper

operation. Know how to stop the machine

and disengage them quickly.

3. Never allow children under 14 years of age to

operate this machine. Children 14 and over

should read and understand the instructions

and safe operation practices in this manual

and on the machine and be trained and

supervised by an adult.

4. Never allow adults to operate this machine

without proper instruction.

5. Keep the area of operation clear of all

persons, particularly small children and pets.

Stop machine if anyone enters the area.

Preparation

1. Thoroughly inspect the area where the

equipment is to be used. Remove all stones,

sticks, wire and other foreign objects which

could be tripped over and cause personal

injury.

2. Wear sturdy, rough-soled work shoes and

close fitting slacks and shirt. Loose fitting

clothes or jewelry can be caught in moving

parts. Never operate this machine in bare feet

or sandals.

3. Disengage clutch levers and shift (if provided)

into neutral (“N”) before starting the engine.

4. Never leave this machine unattended with

the engine running.

5. Never attempt to make any adjustments

while engine is running, except where

specifically recommended in the operator’s

manual.

Safe Handling of Gasoline:

1. To avoid personal injury or property damage

use extreme care in handling gasoline.

Gasoline is extremely flammable and the

vapors are explosive. Serious personal injury

can occur when gasoline is spilled on yourself

or your clothes which can ignite. Wash your

skin and change clothes immediately.

• Use only an approved gasoline

container.

• Never fill containers inside a vehicle or

on a truck or trailer bed with a plastic

liner. Always place containers on the

ground away from your vehicle before

filling.

• When practical, remove gas-powered

equipment from the truck or trailer

and refuel it on the ground. If this

is not possible, then refuel such

equipment on a trailer with a portable

container, rather than from a gasoline

dispenser nozzle.

• Keep the nozzle in contact with the

rim of the fuel tank or container

opening at all times until fueling is

complete. Do not use a nozzle lock-

open device.

• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.

• Never fuel machine indoors.

• Never remove gas cap or add fuel

while the engine is hot or running.

Allow engine to cool at least five

minutes before refueling.

• Never over fill fuel tank. Fill tank to

no more than ½ inch below bottom

of filler neck to allow space for fuel

expansion.

• Replace gasoline cap and tighten

securely.

• If gasoline is spilled, wipe it off the

engine and equipment. Move unit to

another area. Wait five minutes before

starting the engine.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing, change

clothing immediately.

• To reduce fire hazards, keep machine

free of grass, leaves or other debris

build-up. Clean up oil or fuel spillage

and remove any fuel soaked debris.

• Never store the machine or fuel

container inside where there is an

open flame, spark or pilot light as on

a water heater, space heater, furnace,

clothes dryer or other gas appliances.

Operation

1. Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts.

Contact with the rotating parts can amputate

hands and feet.

2. Always wear safety glasses or safety goggles

during operation and while performing an

adjustment or repair to protect your eyes.

Thrown objects which ricochet can cause

serious injury to the eyes.

DANGER! This machine was built to be operated according to the safe operation practices in this manual. As with any type of power equipment,

carelessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. This machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing debris.

Failure to observe the following safety instructions could result in serious injury or death.

3. For extended use of this product, hearing

protection is required.

4. Do not operate machine while under the

influence of alcohol or drugs.

5. Never operate this machine without good

visibility or light. Always be sure of your

footing and keep a firm hold on the handles.

6. Keep bystanders away from the machine

while it is in operation. Stop the machine if

anyone enters the area.

7. Be careful when tilling in hard ground. The

tines may catch in the ground and propel

the tiller forward. If this occurs, let go of the

handle bars and do not restrain the machine.

8. Exercise extreme caution when operating

on or crossing gravel surfaces. Stay alert

for hidden hazards or traffic. Do not carry

passengers.

9. Never operate the machine at high transport

speeds on hard or slippery surfaces.

10. Exercise caution to avoid slipping or falling.

11. Look down and behind and use care when in

reverse or pulling machine towards you.

12. Start the engine according to the instructions

found in this manual and keep feet well away

from the tines at all times.

13. After striking a foreign object, stop the

engine, disconnect the spark plug wire and

ground against the engine. Thoroughly

inspect the machine for any damage. Repair

the damage before starting and operating.

14. Disengage all clutch levers (if fitted) and

stop engine before you leave the operating

position (behind the handles). Wait until

the tines come to a complete stop before

unclogging the tines or making any

adjustments or inspections.

15. Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly

ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains

carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly

gas.

16. Muffler and engine become hot and can

cause a burn. Do not touch.

17. Use caution when tilling near fences,

buildings and underground utilities. Rotating

tines can cause property damage or personal

injury.

18. Do not overload machine capacity by

attempting to till soil too deep at too fast of

a rate.

4. Check bolts and screws for proper tightness

at frequent intervals to keep the machine in

safe working condition. Also, visually inspect

machine for any damage.

5. Before cleaning, repairing or inspecting, stop

the engine and make certain the tines and

all moving parts have stopped. Disconnect

the spark plug wire and ground it against the

engine to prevent unintended starting.

6. Do not change the engine governor settings

or over-speed the engine. The governor

controls the maximum safe operating speed

of the engine.

7. Maintain or replace safety and instruction

labels, as necessary.

8. Follow this manual for safe loading,

unloading, transporting and storage of this

machine.

9. Always refer to the Operator’s Manual for

important details if the machine is to be

stored for an extended period.

10. If the fuel tank has to be drained, do this

outdoors.

11. Observe proper disposal laws and regulations

for gas, oil, etc. to protect the environment.

12. According to the Consumer Products

Safety Commission (CPSC) and the U.S.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),

this product has an Average Useful Life of

seven (7) years, or 130 hours of operation. At

the end of the Average Useful Life have the

machine inspected annually by an authorized

service dealer to ensure that all mechanical

and safety systems are working properly and

not worn excessively. Failure to do so can

result in accidents, injuries or death.

Notice Regarding Emissions

Engines which are certified to comply with

California and Federal EPA emission regulations

for SORE (Small Off Road Equipment) are certified

to operate on regular unleaded gasoline, and may

include the following emission control systems:

Engine Modification (EM), Oxidizing Catalyst (OC),

Secondary Air Injection (SAI) and Three Way Catalyst

(TWC) if so equipped.

Spark Arrestor

WARNING! This machine is equipped

with an internal combustion engine and

should not be used on or near any

unimproved forest-covered, brush-

covered or grass-covered land unless the

engine’s exhaust system is equipped

with a spark arrestor meeting applicable

local or state laws (if any).

If a spark arrestor is used, it should be maintained in

effective working order by the operator. In the State

of California the above is required by law (Section

4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other

states may have similar laws. Federal laws apply on

federal lands.

A spark arrestor for the muffler is available through

your nearest engine authorized service dealer or

contact the service department, P.O. Box 361131

Cleveland, Ohio 44136-0019.

19. If the machine should start making an

unusual noise or vibration, stop the engine,

disconnect the spark plug wire and ground

it against the engine. Inspect thoroughly for

damage. Repair any damage before starting

and operating.

20. Keep all shields, guards and safety devices in

place and operating properly.

21. Never pick up or carry machine while the

engine is running.

22. Powered walk-behind tiller work is strenuous.

You must be in good physical condition and

mentally alert. If you have any condition that

might be aggravated by strenuous work,

check with your doctor before operating a

powered walk-behind tiller.

23. Use only attachments and accessories

approved by the manufacturer. Failure to do

so can result in personal injury.

24. If situations occur which are not covered in

this manual, use care and good judgement.

Contact Customer Support for assistance and

the name of you nearest servicing dealer.

Maintenance & Storage

1. Keep machine, attachments and accessories

in safe working order.

2. Never store the machine with fuel in the fuel

tank inside a building where ignition sources

are present, such as hot water and space

heaters, clothes dryers, etc.

3. Allow machine to cool at least five minutes

before storing. Never tamper with safety

devices. Check their proper operation

regularly.

NOTE: Reference to the right or left side of the tiller

is determined from the operator’s position behind

the machine. All exceptions will be noted.

Assembly

Unpacking Instructions

1. Remove the staples, break the glue on the top

flaps, or cut the tape at the end of the carton

and peel along the top flap to open carton.

2. Remove the loose parts included with the

tiller (i.e., Operator’s Manual, etc.).

3. Cut the corners and lay the carton down flat.

4. Remove the packing materials.

5. Roll or slide the tiller out of the carton. Check

the carton thoroughly for loose parts.

6. Extend the control cable and lay it on the

floor. Be careful not to bend or kink the

control cable.

NOTE: This tiller is shipped without gasoline

or oil in the engine. Be certain to service

engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in

the separate Engine Operator’s Manual before

operating your machine.

Depth Stake

WARNING! Disconnect the spark plug

wire and ground it against the engine to

prevent unintended starting.

1. Tip the tiller forward so that it rests on the

front counterweight.

2. Unthread the T-knob from the top of the

depth stake and remove the flat washer and

hex bolt. Remove the cotter pin from the clevis

pin. See Figure 2-1.

3. Raise the tine shield hinge flap assembly and

insert the depth stake assembly into the slot

— under the tine shield — and up through the

tine shield assembly.

4. Insert the clevis pin through the tine shield

and depth stake assemblies. Secure it with the

hairpin clip.

5. Insert the hex bolt into the top hole of the

depth stake assembly. Place the flat washer on

the hex bolt and thread the T-knob onto the

hex bolt. Tighten securely. See Figure 2-1.

6. Tip the tiller back down so that it rests on

the tines.

Handle

1. Remove the top two hex screws and flange

lock nuts from the handle mounting brackets,

but do not remove the bottom hex screw and

flange lock nut. See Figure 2-2.

machine are observed from the operating position.

with regards to performance, power-rating, specifications, warranty and

service. Please refer to the engine manufacturer’s Owner’s/Operator’s

Manual, packed separately with your machine, for more information.

3. Route the wire over to the left side of the

handle and secure with a cable tie on the

lower part of the handle. See Figure 2-5.

NOTE: Leave a little extra slack in the emergency

stop control wire between the cable ties in steps

2 and 3 of this section to allow full range of

motion for the upper handle adjust.

4. Mount the emergency stop control ON/OFF

switch onto the left side of the handlebar with

the #10-32 : 1.50 hex bolt and 10-32 flange lock

nut. See 1 in Figure 2-6.

5. Secure the wire near the top of the handlebar

with a cable tie on the left handlebar. See 2 in

Figure 2-6.

Clutch Cable

Attach the clutch cable to the handle as follows: (be

careful not to kink the cable)

1. Remove the threaded eyebolt and nut from

the cable end.

2. Route the clutch cable to the right side of the

handle mounting brackets and underneath

the handle.

3. Push the cable through the hole in the center

of the handle and snap into the plastic fitting.

See Figure 2-7.

4. Remove the machine screw, flange lock nut and

washer from the clutch control. See Figure 2-8.

5. Fasten the threaded eyebolt onto the bail by

securing it from the top with the machine

screw, washer and flange lock nut.

6. Thread the eyebolt and nut removed earlier

into the internally threaded tube at the end

of the cable. Thread engagement should be

about ⁄”. Tighten the nut against the tube at

the end of the cable. See Figure 2-8.

NOTE: Do not overtighten the clutch cable.

Too much tension may cause it to break. Be

certain to check the clutch cable adjustment

before operating the tiller. See Clutch Cable

under Adjustments in this section for cable

adjustment instructions.

2. Place the handle assembly in position

between the handle bracket. See Figure 2-3.

3. Line up the holes in the handle with the holes

in the bracket and secure it with hardware

previously removed.

Emergency Stop Control Installation (If Equipped)

Some models come equipped with an emergency

stop control switch. If equipped you will need to

complete installation of this safety feature prior to

operating the tiller.

WARNING! Use extreme caution when

reversing or pulling the machine towards

you. To avoid getting pinned against a

structure, ensure adequate distance before

reversing near a wall or fence. For machines

with powered reverse drive capability,

familiarize yourself with the operation of the

emergency stop control. It provides a means

of stopping power to the tines and wheel

drive in an emergency situation.

1. To finish handle installation locate the

emergency stop control wire on the right side

of the unit behind the engine.

2. Route the wire up the handle shaft and secure

with cable ties just above the lower handle

adjust bracket and below the upper handle

adjust bracket. See Figure 2-4.

Control Rod

1. Make sure the handle assembly is in the

highest position. Refer to the Controls &

Operation section.

2. Remove the cotter pins from the control rod,

leave the rubber washers on the control rod.

See Figure 2-9.

3. Insert the shorter (angled) end of the control

rod through the indicator bracket on the shift

cover and secure with the cotter pin that was

previously removed. See Figure 2-10.

4. Insert the longer end of the control rod

through the hole in the gear selector handle

and secure with the cotter pin. See Figure 2-10.

Set-Up

Tires

The tires on the tiller may be over-inflated for

shipping purposes. Reduce the tire pressure before

operating the tiller. Recommended operating tire

pressure is approximately 20 PSI (check the sidewall

of the tire for the manufacturer’s recommended

pressure). Be sure that both tires are inflated equally

or the tiller will pull to one side.

Gas & Oil Fill-Up

Service the engine with gasoline and oil as instructed

in the separate Engine Operator’s Manual packed

with your tiller. Read the instructions carefully.

WARNING! Use extreme care when

handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely

flammable and the vapors are explosive.

Never fuel the machine indoors or while

the engine is hot or running.

Adjustments

Clutch Cable

NOTE: Service the engine with oil and gasoline

before checking this adjustment. Refer to the

separate Engine Operator’s Manual packed

with your tiller for proper fuel and engine oil

recommendations.

1. Position the tiller so the front counterweight is

against a solid object, such as a wall.

2. With the gear selection lever in NEUTRAL,

start the engine. Refer to the separate Engine

Operator’s Manual.

3. Standing on the right side of the tiller, examine

the belt (inside the belt cover). It should not

be turning.

WARNING! Do not put your fingers

under the belt cover.

4. If the belt turns without bail engaged, adjust

it by unthreading the internally threaded tube

at the end of the cable a few turns clockwise

(when standing in the operator’s position) and

then retighten the nut against the tube.

5. Move the shift lever to the FORWARD position.

6. Carefully engage the clutch by lifting the

clutch control bail against the handle. The

wheels should spin. If the wheels do not

spin with the tiller in forward, adjust by

unthreading the tube at the end of the cable a

few turns counter-clockwise, when standing in

the operator’s position. See Figure 2-11.

7. Retighten the nut against the tube.

8. Recheck both adjustments, and readjust

as necessary.

9. After tilling, if the tines stop moving, re-adjust

the cable.

NOTE: A secondary cable adjustment is

available if you reach the point that additional

adjustment is needed. See the Service section

for secondary adjustment instructions.

Handle

The handle should be adjusted so that when the

tiller is digging 3-4” into the soil, the handle falls to

about waist-high. Rotate the handle adjustment lock

rearward, move the handle to the desired position

and then lock into place by rotating the handle

adjustment lock forward to secure the handle. See

Figure 2-12.

information and functions of the engine controls.

Gear Selection Handle

The gear selection handle is located in the center of

the handle on the tiller. It is used to select NEUTRAL,

REVERSE, or one of the FORWARD modes on the shift

lever indicator. See the Controls & Operation section

for more information.

Emergency Stop Control (If Equipped)

The emergency stop control is a switch used to

stop the tiller engine and tiller functions from the

operator’s position in emergency situations.

NOTE: Some engine models may also come

equipped with an ignition ON/OFF switch. Consult

the separate Engine Operator’s Manual.

Clutch Control

The clutch control is located beneath the handle.

Squeezing the clutch control against the handle

engages the wheel and tine drive mechanisms.

Handle Adjustment Lock

The handle may be adjusted to the height desired.

Loosen the handle height adjustment lock a few

turns. Pivot handle up or down to desired position

and tighten the lock.

Depth Stake

The depth stake controls the tilling depth. Refer to

the Controls & Operation section.

Side Shield

The side shields are located on the right and left

sides of the tine shield and can be used with the

depth adjustment lever to control tilling depth.

Starting the Engine

WARNING! Read, understand and follow

all instructions and warnings on the

machine and in this manual before

operating.

NOTE: When pushing the tiller with the engine

off, you will hear a ratcheting sound or gear

noise; this is normal.

WARNING! Be sure no one is standing in

front of the tiller while the engine is

running or being started.

1. Place the gear selection lever in NEUTRAL.

2. If equipped with an emergency stop control

switch, make sure that the emergency stop

control is set to the ON position, represented

by the solid line, while attempting to start the

engine. See Figure 3-3.

3. Follow the instructions in the Engine

Operator’s Manual to start the engine.

NOTE: After starting and prior to using the tiller

for the first time, be certain to check the clutch

adjustment as described in Assembly & Set-Up

section.

IMPORTANT! If equipped with an emergency stop

control switch, verify the stop control function works

properly before each use by moving the switch to the

OFF position with the engine running. Only continue

operation if the emergency stop control switch stops

the engine.

Stopping the Engine

Refer to the Engine Operator’s Manual for engine

stopping information.

NOTE: After the first ten hours of operation, recheck

the clutch adjustment. Refer to Clutch Cable in the

Assembly & Set-Up section.

Using Emergency Stop Control (If Equipped)

To stop the running engine using the emergency

stop control, move the switch to the OFF position,

represented by the circle. See Figure 3-3.

8 Section 3 — controlS & operation

Setting The Depth

Tilling depth is controlled by the depth stake which

can be adjusted to five different settings. Adjust the

side shields as you adjust the depth stake.

WARNING! Be certain spark plug wire is

disconnected and grounded against the

engine when performing any

adjustments.

1. When using the tiller for the first time, use the

second adjustment hole from the top (1” of tilling

depth). See Figure 3-4.

2. When breaking up sod and for shallow

cultivation, use the setting which gives 1” of

tilling depth (second hole from the top). Place

the side shields in their lowest position. See

Figure 3-5.

3. For further depth, raise the depth stake and

side shields and also make one or two more

passes over the area.

4. When tilling loose soil, the depth stake may be

raised to its highest position (use the bottom

adjustment hole) to give the deepest tilling

depth. Raise the side shields to their highest

position.

5. To transport the tiller, lower the depth stake

and use the top adjustment hole.

6. To adjust the depth stake, remove the clevis

pin and cotter pin. Move the depth stake to

the desired setting and secure with the clevis

pin and cotter pin. See Figure 3-4.

7. To adjust the side shields, remove the wing

nuts. Move the side shield to the desired

position and replace the wing nuts. Tighten

securely. See Figure 3-5.

Operating the Tiller

1. Select the depth stake setting.

2. Start the engine as instructed on the previous

page.

3. Move the gear selection handle to one of the

forward modes or reverse.

WARNING! Do not move the gear

selection handle with the wheels or tines

engaged. Make certain the tiller is

stopped completely before changing the

gear selection. A partial engagement

may be necessary when engaging tines.

4. To shift into forward wheels and tine drive,

push forward slightly on the gear selection

handle and slowly engage the clutch control

allowing the gears to synchronize. To stop

forward movement and tine drive, release

the clutch control. Do not shift gears with the

clutch control engaged except when engaging

the tines.

NOTE: Use the reverse tine drive when tilling

virgin ground, sod or hard soil. Use the

forward tine drive when cultivating or tilling

soft ground.

5. Squeeze the clutch handle against the handle

to engage the wheels and tines.

NOTE: Make certain the gear selection

indicator is correctly positioned before

engaging the clutch handle. If it is between

the gears, the engine will stall.

6. To transport the tiller, do not engage the tines.

Select the wheel drive only.

WARNING! Do not push down on the

handles so that the wheels are lifted off

the ground while using the tine drive, or

the tiller could move backward and cause

personal injury.

7. For best results, it is recommended the garden

be tilled twice (lengthwise, then width-wise)

to pulverize the soil.

Refer to the separate Engine Operator’s Manual for

engine maintenance instructions.

Tires

Recommended operating tire pressure is

approximately 20 p.s.i. on 16 inch tires. (Check

the sidewall of the tire for the manufacturer’s

recommended pressure). Maximum tire pressure

under any circumstances is 30 p.s.i. Equal tire

pressure should be maintained on both tires.

WARNING! Excessive pressure (over 30

p.s.i.) when seating beads may cause the

tire/rim assembly to burst with force

sufficient to cause serious injury.

Tines

Clean the underside of the tine shield after each

use. The dirt washes off the tines easier if rinsed off

immediately instead of after it dries. Always towel

dry the tiller afterwards and apply a light coat of oil

or silicone to prevent rusting or water damage.

NOTE: Never use a “pressure washer” to clean

your tiller. Water can penetrate tight areas of

the tiller and its chain case and cause serious

damage to the tiller.

Lubrication

Transmission

The transmission is pre-lubricated and sealed at the

factory. It requires no checking unless the transmission

is disassembled. To fill with grease, lay the right half of

the transmission on its side, add 22 ounces of Benalene

920 grease, and assemble the left half to it. This grease

can be obtained at your nearest authorized dealer by

ordering part number 737-0300 or calling the Customer

Support number found in the separate supplement.

Clutch Handle

Lubricate the pivot point on the clutch handle and

the cable at least once a season with light oil. The

control must operate freely in both directions.

Pivot Points

Lubricate all the pivot points and linkages at least

once a season with light oil.

Tine Shafts

Remove the tine assemblies and lubricate the tine

shafts at least once a season.

Wheel Shafts

Remove the wheel assemblies and lubricate the axle

shafts at least once a season.

Adjustments

WARNING! Never attempt to make any

adjustments while the engine is running,

except where specified in the Operator’s

Manual.

Engine Adjustment

Refer to the separate Engine Operator’s Manual for

engine adjustment instructions.

Clutch Cable

Refer to the Assembly & Set-Up section of this manual

for instructions on adjusting the clutch cable.

Idler Pulley Rod

After the belt tension has been adjusted, if the belt

is excessively stretched, you may need to adjust the

idler pulley rod. This can be checked easily.

With the engine off and the clutch control bail

disengaged, shift the gear selection handle to each

forward mode. If the indicator bracket touches

the idler pulley rod with the clutch control bail

disengaged, then an adjustment is necessary.

1. Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire

against the engine.

2. Remove the belt cover as described under Belt

Replacement in the Service section.

3. Remove the cotter pin and spring washer from

the idler pulley rod. See Figure 4-1.

4. Move the idler pulley rod to the lower hole in

the idler bracket.

5. Replace the spring washer and hairpin clip.

6. Check the clearance of the idler pulley rod to the

indicator bracket by shifting to each forward mode.

Handle

The handle may be adjusted to the desired height.

Refer to the Assembly & Set-Up section for details.

Belt Replacement

Your tiller has been engineered with a belt designed

for long life and optimal performance. It should

never be replaced with a non-OEM belt. Order all

belts through an authorized service dealer or by

contacting Customer Support.

1. Disconnect and ground the spark plug wire

against the engine.

2. Remove the belt cover from the left side of the

tiller by removing the two screws from the top

of the belt cover. See Figure 4-2.

3. Remove the nut and washer from the front

side of the belt cover. Remove the hex head

screw at the back of the cover. See Figure 4-3.

4. Remove the belt keeper assembly located

behind the engine pulley by removing the two

hex bolts and lock washers. See Figure 4-3.

5. Remove the idler pulley by removing the bolt

and nut. See Figure 4-3.

6. Remove the old belt and install the new

belt. Follow the instructions in reverse order

to re-install the belt keeper and belt cover.

See Figure 4-3.

NOTE: Upon reassembly, make certain the belt

is routed over the idler pulley and inside of

belt keepers by the engine pulley.

Secondary Cable Adjustment

If additional adjustment is necessary after the

primary adjustment can no longer be used, the

secondary adjustment can be performed as follows:

1. Remove the belt cover as instructed in the Belt

Replacement section above.

2. Locate the spring at the end of the cable.

See Figure 4-4.

3. Loosen the upper nut, then tighten or loosen the

lower nut until the proper tension is reached.

4. Once the proper tension is reached, re-tighten

the upper nut to secure the cable.

Tines

Accessing Tine Assembly

1. Remove the three wingnuts from the side

shield. See Figure 4-5.

2. Slide the end cover back and out from the

bottom of the tine shield. See Figure 4-6.

While not necessary, removing some or all

articulating tines from around the tine assembly

will make accessing the tine assembly easier. See

Removing Individual Tines for instructions on

properly removing individual tines.

1. Remove the bow-tie cotter pin from the

clevis pin, and remove the clevis pin securing

the tine assembly to the transmission drive

shaft. Slide the tine assembly off the shaft.

See Figure 4-7.

1. Remove the top hardware from the

articulating tine. This consists of a shoulder

screw on the outer side of the unit, and a lock

nut and lock washer on the inner side of the

unit. See Figure 4-8

2. Remove the lower hardware from the lower

hole of the articulating tine. This consists of

a shoulder screw belleville washer and larger

flat washer on the outer side of the unit, and a

lock nut and lock washer on the inner side of

the unit. See Figure 4-8

NOTE: Carefully keep track of hardware

orientation and position while removing the

hardware to ensure proper reassembly.

IMPORTANT: When reinstalling the tine assembly

make sure to always install the hardware with the

screw heads toward the outside of the unit and the

nuts toward the inside of the unit.

Off-Season Storage

If the tiller will not be used for a period longer than

30 days, the following steps should be taken to

prepare the tiller for storage.

• Clean the exterior of the engine and the

entire tiller thoroughly. Lubricate the tiller as

described in the Lubrication instructions.

• Using a pressure washer to clean your tiller

is not recommended. The washer may cause

damage to the electric components, spindles,

pulleys, bearings or the engine. Using a

pressure washers will result in shortened life

and reduce serviceability.

• Engines stored between 30 and 90 days

need to be treated with a gasoline stabilizer

and engines stored over 90 days need to

be drained of fuel to prevent deterioration

and gum from forming in fuel system or on

essential carburetor parts. If the gasoline in

your engine deteriorates during storage, you

may need to have the carburetor, and other

fuel system components, serviced or replaced.

• Refer to the Engine Operator’s Manual for the

additional engine storage instructions.

• Wipe the tines with an oiled rag to prevent rust.

• Store the tiller in a clean, dry area. Do not store

next to corrosive materials, such as fertilizer.

NOTE: When storing any type of power

equipment in an unventilated area or metal

storage shed, care should be taken to

rustproof the equipment. Using a light oil or

silicone, coat the equipment and especially

any springs, bearings and cables.

Capacitación

1. Lea, entienda y cumpla todas las instrucciones

incluidas en la máquina y en los manuales antes

de intentar armarla y hacerla funcionar. Guarde

este manual en un lugar seguro para consultas

futuras y periódicas, así como para solicitar

repuestos.

2. Familiarícese con todos los controles y con el uso

adecuado de los mismos. Sepa cómo parar la

máquina y desactivar los controles rápidamente.

3. No permita nunca que los menores de 14 años

utilicen esta máquina. Los menores de 14 años en

4. Nunca permita que los adultos operen esta

Preparativos

1. Inspeccione minuciosamente el área donde

se usará el equipo. Saque todas las piedras,

recomiende específicamente el manual del

operador.

Manipulación segura de la gasolina:

1. Para evitar lesiones personales o daños materiales

tenga mucho cuidado al manipular la gasolina. La

gasolina es sumamente inflamable y sus vapores

son explosivos. Si se derrama gasolina sobre el

cuerpo o la ropa se puede lastimar gravemente

ya que podría prenderse fuego. Lávese la piel y

cámbiese de ropa de inmediato.

• Utilice sólo recipientes para gasolina

autorizados.

• Nunca llene los recipientes dentro de un

vehículo o de un camión o remolque con

recubrimiento plástico. Coloque siempre

los recipientes en el piso y lejos del

vehículo antes de llenarlos.

• Siempre que sea posible, saque el equipo

a gasolina del camión o del remolque

y llénelo sobre el suelo. Si eso no es

posible, llene el equipo sobre el remolque

con un recipiente portátil, en lugar de

hacerlo desde la boquilla del surtidor de

gasolina.

• Mantenga la boquilla en contacto con el

borde del tanque de combustible o con

la boca del recipiente en todo momento,

hasta terminar de cargar. No utilice un

dispositivo para mantener abierta la

boquilla.

máquina en interiores.

• Limpie el combustible que se haya

derramado sobre el motor y el equipo.

Traslade la unidad a otro lugar. Espere 5

minutos antes de arrancar el motor.

• Si se derrama combustible sobre la ropa,

cámbiese de ropa inmediatamente.

• Para reducir el riesgo de incendio,

mantenga la máquina limpia de pasto,

hojas y residuos acumulados. Limpie

los derrames de aceite o combustible y

calentadores de agua caliente y calentadores,

secadoras de ropa, etc.

3. Deje que la máquina se enfríe por lo menos

cinco minutos antes de guardarla. Nunca

modifique los dispositivos de seguridad. Controle

periódicamente que funcionen correctamente.

4. Controle frecuentemente que los pernos y

tornillos estén bien ajustados para mantener

la máquina en buenas condiciones de

funcionamiento. Además, haga inspecciones

visuales de la máquina para verificar si sufrió

algún daño.

5. Antes de limpiar, reparar o inspeccionar la

máquina, pare el motor y compruebe que los

dientes y todas las partes móviles se hayan

detenido. Desconecte el cable de la bujía y

póngalo a tierra contra el motor para evitar que

arranque accidentalmente.

6. No cambie la configuración del regulador

del motor ni acelere demasiado el motor. El

regulador del motor controla la velocidad

7. Mantenga o reemplace las etiquetas de

seguridad y de instrucciones según sea necesario.

8. Consulte este manual para cargar, descargar,

transportar y almacenar con seguridad esta

máquina.

9. Siempre consulte el manual del operador para

ver detalles importantes si la máquina se va

a guardar durante un período prolongado de

tiempo.

10. Si tiene que drenar el tanque de combustible,

hágalo al aire libre.

funcionar con gasolina sin plomo común y pueden

vías (TWC) si están instalados.

Amortiguador de Chispas

ADVERTENCIA! Esta máquina está

pasto o cerca de él salvo que el sistema de

escape del motor incluya un amortiguador

de chispas que cumpla con la legislación

operador lo debe mantener en buenas condiciones

de uso. En el Estado de California, las medidas

anteriormente mencionadas son exigidas por ley

(Artículo 4442 del Código de Recursos Públicos de

estados. Las leyes federales se aplican en los territorios

federales.

Montaje

Desembalar Instrucciones

NOTA: Las referencias al lado derecho o izquierdo de

la cultivadora se determinan desde la parte posterior

de la unidad en la posición de operación.

1. Saque las grapas, rompa el pegamento de las

aletas superiores o corte la cinta del extremo

de la caja y tire a lo largo de la aleta superior

para abrirla.

2. Quite las partes sueltas que se incluyen

con su unidad (por ejemplo, el manual del

operador, etc.).

3. Corte a lo largo de las esquinas, extienda la

caja plana hacia abajo.

4. Retire el material de empaque.

5. Deslice la unidad hasta sacarla de la caja de

cartón. Revise minuciosamente la caja para

detectar la presencia de piezas sueltas.

6. Estire el cable de control y extiéndalo en el

piso. Tenga cuidado de no doblar ni torcer el

cable de control.

NOTA: Esta unidad se envía sin gasolina ni

aceite en el motor. Antes de operar la máquina

cargue el motor con gasolina y aceite como se

indica en el manual del motor por separado.

Estaca de profundidad

ADVERTENCIA! Desconecte el cable de

la bujía y póngalo haciendo masa contra

el motor para evitar que se encienda

accidentalmente.

1. Incline la cultivadora hacia adelante hasta que

descanse sobre el contrapeso frontal.

2. Desenrosque la perilla en “T” de la parte

superior de la estaca de profundidad y retire la

arandela plana y el perno hexagonal. Saque el

broche de horquilla de la chaveta de horquilla.

3. Levante el montaje de la aleta con bisagras del

protector de dientes e inserte el montaje de

la estaca de profundidad en la ranura (debajo

del protector) y para arriba por el montaje

protector de dientes.

4. Inserte la chaveta de horquilla en los montajes

del protector de dientes y de la estaca de

profundidad. Asegure con el broche de horquilla.

5. Inserte un perno hexagonal en el orificio

superior del montaje de la estaca de

profundidad. Coloque la arandela plana sobre

el perno hexagonal y enrosque la perilla en “T”

en el perno. Ajuste bien. Vea la Figura 2-1.

6. Incline la cultivadora hacia atrás nuevamente

hasta que descanse sobre los dientes.

Manija

1. Retire los dos tornillos de cabeza hexagonal y

tuercas de bloqueo de los soportes de montaje

de la manija, pero no quite el tornillo hexagonal

final y la tuerca de la brida. Vea la Figura 2-2.

NOTA: Deje un poco de holgura adicional en

el cable de control de parada de emergencia

entre los precintos en los pasos 2 y 3 de esta

sección para permitir un rango de movimiento

completo para el ajuste del mango superior.

4. Instale el interruptor de ENCENDIDO/APAGADO

del control de parada de emergencia en el lado

izquierdo de la manija con el perno hexagonal

N.º 10-32 : 1.50 y la contratuerca con brida 10-32.

Consulte el punto 1 de la Figura 2-6.

5. Finalmente, asegure el cable cerca de la parte

superior de la manija con un precinto en la manija

izquierda. Consulte el punto 2 de la Figura 2-6.

Cable del Embrague

Fije el cable del embrague a la manija de la siguiente

manera: (tenga cuidado de no torcer el cable))

1. Quite el perno de ojo roscado y la tuerca del

extremo del cable.

2. Conduzca el cable del embrague por el lado

derecho de los soportes de montaje de la

manija y por debajo de la manija.

3. Empuje el cable a través del orificio del centro

de la manija e introduzca a presión el accesorio

plástico. Vea la Figura 2-7.

4. Retire el tornillo de cabeza ranurada, la tuerca

y las dos arandelas planas del gancho del

embrague. Vea la Figura 2-8.

5. Fije el perno de ojo roscado al gancho

sujetándolo desde arriba con el tornillo de

cabeza ranurada, las arandelas planas y la

tuerca de seguridad.

6. Enrosque el perno de ojo y la tuerca que quitara

anteriormente en el tubo con rosca interna que

está en el extremo del cable. Debe enroscar un

trozo de alrededor de ⁄”. Ajuste la tuerca contra el

tubo en el extremo del cable. Vea la Figura 2-8.

NOTA: No apriete demasiado el cable del

embrague. También mucha tensión pueden

provocar que se rompa. Asegúrese de revisar

el ajuste del cable del embrague antes de

utilizar la caña del timón. Consulte “Cable

del embrague” en esta página para obtener

instrucciones de ajuste del cable.

2. Posicione la unidad de la manija entre los

soportes de montaje de la manija. Vea la

Figura 2-3.

3. Haga coincidir los orificios de la manija con los

orificios del soporte y fije con los accesorios

previamente extraidos.

Instalación del control de parada de emergencia

del motor (Si está equipado)

Algunos modelos vienen equipados con un

interruptor de control de parada de emergencia. Si

está equipado, deberá completar la instalación de

esta característica de seguridad antes de operar la

cultivadora.

ADVERTENCIA! Adopte extrema precaución

cuando vaya marcha atrás o cuando jale de la

máquina hacia usted. Para evitar quedar anclado

contra una estructura, asegúrese de mantener

una distancia adecuada antes de desplazarse

marcha atrás cerca de un muro o de una cerca.

Para las máquinas equipadas con marcha atrás

impulsada, familiarícese con el funcionamiento

del control de parada de emergencia.

Proporciona un modo de detener el suministro

de energía a los dientes y a la transmisión de las

ruedas en situación de emergencia.

1. Configuración y ensamblaje del manual del operador.

Luego, ubique el control de parada de emergencia en

el lado derecho de la unidad.

2. Pase el cable por el eje de la manija y asegúrelo con

precintos justo por encima del soporte de ajuste

inferior de la manija y debajo del soporte de ajuste

superior de la manija. Consulte la Figura 2-4.

3. Dirija el cable por el lado izquierdo de la manija y

asegúrelo con un precinto en la parte inferior de la

manija. Consulte la Figura 2-5.

16 Sección 2 — Montaje y configuración

Varilla de Control

1. Asegúrese de que la unidad de la manija esta

en la posición más alta. Consulte la sección

Conozca la cultivadora.

2. Retire los broches de horquilla de la varilla de

control (las arandelas de goma deben quedar

en la varilla de control).

3. Quite las chavetas de la barra de control, deje

las arandelas de goma en la barra de control.

4. Inserte el extremo más largo de la varilla de

control en el orificio de la manija selectora de

cambios y asegure con un broche de horquilla.

Configuración

Neumáticos

Tal vez los neumáticos de la unidad hayan sido

inflados en exceso para el envío del producto.

Reduzca la presión de los neumáticos antes de

operar la unidad. La presión de funcionamiento

recomendada para los neumáticos es de

aproximadamente 210 p.s.i. (consulte en los laterales

de los neumáticos la presión recomendada por

el fabricante). Esté seguro que ambas llantas son

hinchadas igualmente o la unidad tirará a un lado.

Carga de Gas y Aceite

Cargue el motor con gasolina y aceite como se

indica en el manual del motor que se entrega con la

cultivadora. Lea las instrucciones con atención.

ADVERTENCIA! Sea sumamente

cuidadoso al manipular la gasolina. La

gasolina es sumamente inflamable y sus

vapores pueden causar explosiones.

Nunca cargue combustible en la máquina

en un espacio cerrado o cuand o el motor

está caliente o en marcha.

Ajustes

Cable del embrague

NOTA: El servicio del motor con el aceite y la gasolina

antes de comprobar el ajuste. Consulte el manual del

operador del motor separada se incluye con su timón

de combustible adecuado y las recomendaciones de

aceite del motor.

1. La posición del timón para que el

contrapeso delantero contra un objeto

sólido, como una pared.

2. Con la palanca de selección de marchas en

punto muerto, marcha el motor. Consulte el

manual del operador del motor por separado.

3. De pie en el lado derecho de la cultivadora,

examine el cinturón (el interior de la cubierta

de la correa). No hay que girar.

ADVERTENCIA! No ponga los dedos

bajo la cubierta de la correa.

4. Si la correa gira sin derecho a fianza

comprometida, se debe ajustar por

desenroscar el tubo con rosca interna en el

extremo del cable de un par de vueltas en

sentido horario (al estar de pie en la posición

del operador) y luego vuelva a apretar la

tuerca contra el tubo.

5. Mover la palanca de cambios a la posición

delantera.

6. Cuidadosamente el embrague mediante

el levantamiento de la fianza de control de

embrague contra el larguero. Las ruedas

deben girar. Si las ruedas no giran con el timón

en adelante, ajuste de la ONU-threading el

tubo en el extremo del cable de un par de

vueltas en sentido antihorario, al estar de pie

en la posición del operador. Vea Figura 2-11.

7. Vuelva a apretar la tuerca contra el tubo.

8. Vuelva a revisar los ajustes, y reajustar si

es necesario.

9. Después de cultivar, si los dientes dejan de

moverse, volver a ajustar el cable.

NOTA:

Un ajuste del cable secundario está

disponible si se llega al punto de que el ajuste

adicional. Vea la sección de Servicios para las

instrucciones de ajuste secundario.

Manejar

El mango debe ser ajustado de manera que cuando

la caña está cavando 3-4“en el suelo, el mango cae

sobre los residuos de alta. Gire el controlador de

ajuste hacia atrás de bloqueo, mueva la palanca a

la posición deseada y luego colocado en su sitio

girando el bloqueo de ajuste de palanca hacia

adelante para asegurar la manija. Vea Figura 2-12.

Manija selectora de cambios

La manija selectora de cambios está ubicada en el

centro de la manija de la cultivadora. Se utiliza para

Se usa el control de parada de emergencia del motor

para quitar el motor por el lugar del operador.

NOTA: Algunos modelos de motor también vienen

equipados con un interruptor de ACTIVACIÓN/

DESACTIVACIÓN de Encendido. Consulte el manual

del operador del motor específico.

Control de embrague

El control del embrague está ubicado debajo

de la manija. Para engranar los mecanismos de

transmisión de las ruedas y los dientes se aprieta el

control del embrague contra la manija.

Traba de ajuste de la manija

Se puede ajustar la manija a la altura deseada. Afloje

la traba de ajuste de altura de la manija unas vueltas.

Pivote la manija hacia arriba o abajo a la posición

deseada. Ajuste la traba.

Estaca de profundidad

La estaca de profundidad controla la profundidad

de la labranza. Consulte el en la sección de

Controles y Funcionamiento.

Funcionamiento

Encendido del motor

¡ADVERTENCIA! Lea, comprenda y siga

todas las instrucciones y advertencias

que aparecen en la máquina y en este

manual antes de operarla.

NOTA: Cuando empuje la unidad con el

motor apagado, escuchará un tableteo (de los

engranajes) que es normal.

¡ADVERTENCIA! Asegúrese de que nadie

se encuentre delante de la cultivadora

mientras el motor está funcionando o en

proceso de arranque..

1. Coloque la palanca selectora de cambios

en NEUTRO.

2. Si la cultivadora viene equipado con un

control de parada de emergencia del motorm

asegúrese de que el interruptor de control

de parada de emergencia esté en la posición

de Encendido ACTIVADA antes de intentar

encender la cultivadora. Vea la Figura 3-3.

3. Siga las instrucciones en el manual del

operador del motor al arrancar el motor.

NOTA: Después de arrancar y antes de utilizar

la cultivadora por primera vez, asegúrese de

comprobar el ajuste del embrague como se describe

en la sección Montaje y Configuración.

IMPORTANTE: Antes de cada uso, y si la cultivadora

está equipado con un contol de parada de

emergencia del motor, compruebe que la función

de control de detención funcione correctamente

moviendo el interruptor hasta la posición

DESCTIVADO con el motor en funcionamiento. Solo

continúe con la operación si el interruptor de parada

de emergencia detiene el motor.

Para detener el motor

Consulte el manual del operador del motor para

detener el motor de la información.

NOTA: Después de las diez primeras horas de

la operación, vuelva a comprobar el ajuste del

embrague. Consulte el ajuste del cable del embrague

en la Asamblea y Configuración sección.

Usando el control de parada de emergencia del

motor para parar el motor (Si está equipado)

Mueva el interruptor de control de parada a la posición

de APAGADO. Vea la Figura 3-3.

18 Sección 3 — controleS y Funcionamiento

Establecimiento de la profundidad

La profundidad de labranza está controlada por la

estaca de profundidad que se puede regular en cinco

posiciones diferentes. Ajuste los protectores laterales

al regular la estaca de profundidad.

¡ADVERTENCIA! Cerciórese de que el

cable de la bujía está desconectado y

haciendo masa contra el motor antes de

realizar cualquier ajuste.

1. Cuando se utiliza la caña del timón, por

primera vez, utilice el orificio de ajuste

segundo de la parte superior (1 “de

profundidad de labranza). Véa la Figura 3-4.

2. Al romper el césped y para el cultivo poco

profundo, utilice la configuración que le da una

“profundidad de la labranza (segundo agujero

desde la parte superior). Coloque los protectores

laterales en su posición más baja. Véa la Figura 3-5.

3. Para mayor profundidad, elevar la

participación del fondo y protectores laterales

y también hacer una o dos más pasa por

encima de la zona.

4. Cuando la tierra suelta de labranza, la estaca

de profundidad puede ser elevado a su

posición más alta (utilizar el orificio de ajuste

inferior) para dar la más profunda profundidad

de labranza. Levante la protección lateral a su

posición más alta.

5. Para el transporte de la caña del timón, baje la

estaca de profundidad y utilizar el orificio de

ajuste superior.

6. Para ajustar la profundidad de juego, quitar el

pasador de horquilla y la horquilla. Mueva la

estaca de profundidad en la posición deseada

y asegure con el pasador de horquilla y la

horquilla. Véa la Figura 3-4.

7. Para ajustar la protección lateral, retire las

tuercas de mariposa. Mueva el protector

lateral a la posición deseada y vuelva a

colocar las tuercas de mariposa. Apriete con

seguridad. Véa la Figura 3-5.

Funcionamiento de la Cultivadora

1. Seleccione la posición de la estaca de

profundidad.

2. Arranque el motor según las instrucciones de

la página anterior.

3. Mueva la manija selectora de cambios a uno de

los modos de marcha directa o marcha atrás.

¡ADVERTENCIA! No mueva la manija

selectora de cambios con las ruedas o

dientes enganchados. Cerciórese de que

la unidad se haya detenido

completamente antes de cambiar de

marcha. Para engranar los dientes puede

ser necesario hacer un enganche parcial.

4. Para pasar la transmisión a marcha directa

de las ruedas y de los dientes, empuje un

poco hacia adelante la manija selectora de

cambios y enganche lentamente el control

del embrague para que los engranajes se

sincronicen. Para detener el movimiento hacia

adelante y la marcha de los dientes, libere el

control del embrague. No cambie de marcha

con el control del embrague enganchado

excepto para engranar los dientes.

NOTA: Utilice la marcha atrás de los dientes

para labrar tierra virgen, césped o suelo duro.

Utilice la marcha directa de los dientes para

cultivar o labrar tierras blandas.

5. Presione la manija de embraque contra la

manija para engranar las ruedas y los dientes.

NOTA: Cerciórese de que el indicador

de selección de marcha se encuentra

correctamente ubicado antes de enganchar la

manija de embrague. Si se encuentra entre dos

cambios, el motor se detendrá.

6. Para transportar la cultivadora, no enganche

los dientes. Seleccione únicamente la

transmisión de las ruedas.

¡ADVERTENCIA! No presione las manijas

hacia abajo hasta levantar las ruedas del

suelo cuando usa la transmisión de los

dientes; la cultivadora puede moverse

hacia atrás y causar lesiones personales.

7. Para óptimos resultados, recomendamos labrar

el jardín dos veces (longitudinalmente, luego

transversalmente) para pulverizar el suelo.

Servic io

ADVERTENCIA! Desconecte el cable de

la bujía y póngalo haciendo masa contra

el motor antes de realizar cualquier

reparación.

Mantenimiento

Motor

Consulte el Manual de Operario de Motor separado para

conocer las instrucciones de mantenimiento del mismo.

Neumáticos

Verifique la presión de los neumáticos en ambas llantas.

Deshinche o hinche ambas llantas uniformemente a

20 PSI. Esté seguro que ambas llantas tienen la misma

presión atmosférica o el tiller tirará a un lado.

ADVERTENCIA! Una presión excesiva

(más de 30 psi) al pisar un reborde puede

hacer que el neumático y la llanta a punto

de estallar con la fuerza suficiente para

causar un daño grave.

Dientes

Limpie el lado inferior del protector de dientes

después de cada uso. La suciedad se desprende

de los dientes con más facilidad si se los enjuaga

inmediatamente en lugar de dejar que se seque.

Siempre seque la cultivadora con toalla después de

lavarla y cubra con una capa de aceite o silicona para

evitar que se oxide o dañe por acción del agua.

NOTA: Nunca use una “lavadora a presión” para

limpiar la cultivadora. El agua puede penetrar las

áreas ajustadas de la cultivadora y del cárter de la

cadena y causar daños graves a la unidad.

Lubricación

Transmisión

La transmisión se entrega previamente lubricada y

sellada en fábrica. No requiere verificación a menos que

se desarme la transmisión. Para llenar de grasa, apoye

la mitad derecha de la transmisión de costado, agregue

22 onzas de grasa Benalene 920, y monte la mitad

izquierda sobre la derecha. La grasa se puede obtener

en el distribuidor autorizado más cercano pidiendo la

pieza número 737-0300.

Manija de Embrague

Lubrique el punto de pivote de la manija de embrague y el

cable al menos una vez por temporada con aceite ligero. El

control debe funcionar libremente en ambas direcciones.

Puntos de Pivote

Lubrique todos los puntos de pivote y varillaje al

menos una vez por temporada con aceite ligero.

Ejes de los Dientes

Retire los conjuntos de los dientes y lubrique los ejes

de los mismos por lo menos una vez por temporada.

Eje de las Ruedas

Retire los juegos de ruedas y lubrique los semiejes

por lo menos una vez por temporada.

Ajustes

ADVERTENCIA! NUNCA intente realizar

ningún tipo de ajuste mientras el motor está

encendido, excepto si así lo especifica el

Manual de Operador de Motor.

Ajuste del motor

Consulte el manual del operador del motor por separado

para obtener instrucciones de ajuste del motor.

Cable del embrague

Consulte la sección de Montaje y Configuración en

marcha de este manual para obtener instrucciones

sobre cómo ajustar el cable del embrague.

Polea loca de Rod

Es posible que sea necesario ajustar la tensión de la

correa periódicamente debido al estiramiento y al

desgaste normal de la misma. Se debe hacer un ajuste si

los dientes o las ruedas parecen titubear mientras giran,

pero el motor mantiene la misma velocidad

Para ajustar la tensión de la correa, consulte el ajuste

del embrague en las Instrucciones de Montaje y

Configuración sección

Después de ajustar la tensión de la correa, si la correa está

demasiado estirada, puede hacer falta ajustar la varilla de

la polea loca. Esto se puede comprobar fácilmente.

Con el motor apagado y el gancho de control del

embrague desenganchado, pase la manija selectora

de cambio por todas las posiciones de marcha

directa. Si el soporte del indicador toca la varilla de la

polea loca (con el gancho de control del embrague

desenganchado), hace falta hacer un ajuste.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujía y haga masa

contra el motor.

2. Retire la cubierta de la correa como se

describe en Reemplazo de la correa en la

sección de Servicio.

3. Retire el broche de chaveta y la arandela de resorte

4. Mueva la varilla de la polea loca al orificio más

bajo de la ménsula intermedia.

5. Vuelva a colocar la arandela de resorte y el

broche de horquilla.

6. Compruebe el espacio libre entre la varilla

de la polea loca y el soporte del indicador

cambiando a cada una de las marchas directas,

como anteriormente.

Manejar

El mango se puede ajustar a la altura deseada. Se

refieren a la Asamblea y la sección de configuración

para más detalles.

Cambio de correa

El diseño de la cultivadora incluye una correa de material

especial (Kevlar Tracción) que le proporciona mayor

duración y mejor rendimiento. No se la debe cambiar por

una correa cualquiera. Pida todas las correas a través de

su distribuidor de servicio autorizado.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujía y haga masa

contra el motor.

2. Saque la cubierta de la correa desde el lado izquierdo

de la cultivadora extrayendo los dos tornillos de la

parte superior de la cubierta. Vea la Figura 4-2.

3. Extraiga la tuerca hexagonal y la arandela

plana del costado de la cubierta de la correa y

extraiga el tornillo autorroscado del fondo de

la parte delantera de la cubierta.

4. Retire la ménsula del guardacorrea ubicado

detrás de la polea del motor extrayendo dos

pernos hexagonales y arandelas de seguridad.

5. Saque la correa usada y monte la nueva. Siga

las instrucciones en orden inverso.

6. Después de armar, cerciórese de que la correa pasa

sobre la polea loca y por dentro de los guardacorreas

junto a la polea del motor. Vea la Figura 4-3.

NOTA: Durante la instalación, asegúrese de

que la correa se enrutan a través de la polea

loca y en el interior de los criadores de la

correa por la polea del motor.

Ajuste del cable del secundario

Si el ajuste adicional es necesaria después de que

el ajuste primario no puede ser utilizado, el ajuste

secundario se puede realizar de la siguiente manera:

1. Retire la tapa de la correa como se indica la

sección Reemplazo de la correa por encima.

2. Localizar el muelle en el extremo del cable. Ver

Figura 4-4.

3. Aflojar la tuerca superior y luego apretar o

aflojar la tuerca más baja hasta que la tensión

adecuada se alcanza.

4. Una vez que la tensión adecuada se alcanza, volver

a apretar la tuerca superior para asegurar el cable.

20 Sección 4 — Servicio

Problema Causa Solución

Los dientes no enganchan 1. Hay un objeto extraño entre los dientes.

2. Falta la o las chavetas de horquilla de los dientes.

3. La polea y la polea loca necesitan ajuste.

procedimiento de cambio correcto.

5. Ajuste el cable de control (vea las instrucciones

de montaje).

6. Cambie la correa.

Los dientes rebotan contra el suelo 1. Rotación incorrecta. 1. Solamente se debe utilizar la rotación directa

sobre suelos previamente labrados, no sobre

tierra virgen.

Las ruedas no enganchan 1. Falta la chaveta de horquilla.

2. No se hacen bien los cambios de la cultivadora.

3. El cable de control no está ajustado correctamente.

4. Correa desgastada y/o estirada.

1. Reemplace la chaveta de horquilla.

2. Consulte la sección Controles y Funcionamiento

del manual del operador para los

procedimientos apropiados que cambian.

3. Ajuste el cable de control.

4. Cambie la correa.

Solución de problemas

Tener acceso al montaje de dientes

1. Saque las tres tuercas mariposas de cada lado

de la cubierta de los dientes. Vea la Figura 4-5.

Sacando el montaje de dientes

Sacando los dientes con articulación de alrededor del

montaje puede hacer que sacar el montaje más fácil.

Vea Sacando dientes individuos.

1. Saque la chaveta papion de la abrazadera

clevis, y saque la abrazadera clevis abrochando

el montaje de dientes a la transmisión. Saque

el montaje del mango. Vea la Figura 4-7.

1. Saque las herramientas más altas: consiste en

un tornillo con hombro en el lado afuera de la

máquina, y una tuerca y arandela cerradura en

el lado dentro de la máquina. Vea la Figura 4-8.

2. Saque las herramientas más bajas: Consiste

de un tornillo con hombro, arandela belleville

y arandela plana en el lado afuera de la

máquina, y una tuerca y arandela cerradura en

el lado dentro de la máquina. Vea la Figura 4-8.

NOTA: Recuerda la oreintación de las

herramientas para asegurar que reinstalar las

herramientas correctamente.

IMPORTANTE: Asegure que instalar las

herramientas con las cabezas de los tornillos

al lado afuera del centro de la maquina y las

tuercas al lado más próximo al centro de la

máquina.

Almacenamiento fuera de temporada

Si la cultivadora no se usa por un período de más de

30 días, se deben realizar los siguientes pasos para

preparar la unidad para el almacenamiento.

• Limpie el exterior del motor y la cultivadora en

su totalidad a fondo. Lubrique la cultivadora

según se describe en las instrucciones de

lubricación.

• No recomendamos el uso de lavadoras a

presión para limpiar la unidad. Pueden dañar

los componentes eléctricos, engranajes,

poleas, rodamientos o el motor. El uso de

lavadoras a presión acortará la vida útil de

la máquina y reducirá su capacidad de servicio.

• Motores almacenados entre 30 y 90 días

necesitan ser tratados con un estabilizador

de gasolina y motores almacenados durante

90 días necesitar ser drenado de combustible

para evitar el deterioro y la formación de

carbonilla en el sistema de combustible o

en partes esenciales del carburador. Si la

gasolina en su motor se deteriora durante el

almacenamiento, es posible que deba tener el

carburador y otros componentes del sistema

de combustible, servicio o el reemplazo.

• Consulte el manual del motor para obtener

instrucciones sobre su almacenamiento correcto.

• Limpie los dientes con un trapo con aceite

para evitar que se oxiden.

• Almacene la cultivadora en un área limpia

y seca. No la almacene cerca de materiales

corrosivos como por ejemplo fertilizantes.

NOTA: Cuando almacene cualquier tipo de

equipo motorizado en un galpón o depósito

metálico o con poca ventilación, tenga

especial cuidado de realizarle un tratamiento

antioxidante. Use aceite liviano o silicona para

recubrir el equipo, especialmente los resortes,

los cojinetes y los cables.
