This function takes advantage of the relationship between the sense of hearing and the psychological properties of hearing and sight. This means that center channel sounds-for example actors voices-seem to come from the TV screen, even if the speaker itself is on top of the TV. Turn it off when it is not needed. With Technics specially developed mode, a dipole sound field is created around mid range signals. The sound from the surround speakers is more natural because it is not aimed directly at the listener. To get the best out of bass sounds, the low frequency sound range is not split. Tweeters are fitted to the rear to deal with sources that need conspicuous orientation (e.g. AC-3). : Dipole sound field LOW: Low frequency sound MID: Mid frequency sound HIGH: High freqency sound SPL: Sound Presure Level High quality dome tweeter SB-LV500 SB-C500 SB-S500 The dome tweeters in these speakers are coated with a carefully selected special high polymer so that the tweeters perform their function (i.e. lessening the inferiority of signal transmission) even better. El diagrama de arriba muestra la colocación básica de cada altavoz. Front speakers SB-LV500 Position these speakers on either side of the TV facing toward the listening position. The sound reproduced by a speaker system is easily influenced by such factors as room acoustics and the system’s location in the room. Before finally deciding where the speakers are to be placed, please read the following information carefully. ● The bass sound will be increased if the speakers are placed on the floor or close to a wall due to the reflection of sound. It is therefore possible to adjust the bass sound to some extent by adjusting the speaker’s distance from the wall and floor. ● Undesirable resonance occurs if the speakers face a hard wall or window. Curtains or similar materials can be used to prevent these reflections. ● To prevent possible acoustic feedback, the speaker systems should be kept away from the turntable. This feedback (howling) can result from vibrations from the speakers. The turntable should, therefore never be placed on the same surface as the speaker system. A thick piece of felt or similar material can be used under the turntable to reduce this problem. Closing the turntable’s cover also reduces this problem. Center speaker SB-C500 Set either on top or underneath the TV. Surround speakers SB-S500 Attach the speaker to the wall at a position which is at ear level and slightly behind the listening point. If the speaker cannot be attached to the wall, it can alternatively be placed on top of a shelf or on the floor. (a See page 8.) Note To enjoy natural sound effects, ensure that the speakers are connected to their respective terminals. The speakers are marked on the rear so that it is easy to identify the left and right side and the direction they should be faced. 6 Altavoces delanteros SB-LV500 Coloque estos altavoces a cada lado del televisor mirando hacia la posición de escucha. The illustration above shows how to fit the surround speakers. The same method also applies to the front speakers. Note Ensure the wall is strong enough to support the speakers. There is a danger of speakers falling if it isn’t. Consult with your Technics dealer before installation. 1 2 3 Attach the metal wall mount (included). Attach the speaker feet (included). Attach two to the lower part of the rear of the speaker. Install the speakers on the wall. Screw the wood screw (not included) into a thick, hard part of the wall. The above illustration shows an example using the center speaker. The method is the same for the other speakers. Note To prevent damage to the speakers, lay them on top of a soft cloth before attaching the speaker feet. ● The front speakers are extremely slim, so take care they do not topple. Never use alcohol, paint thinner, benzine or similar chemicals to clean the unit as they may damage the finish. 4. Do not touch the diaphragms. You risk blowing either the receiver or your speaker if you use a stronger receiver. This may result in fire. If equipment is damaged in any way or unexpected trouble occurs during playback, unplug the system from its outlet and call a serviceman for assistance. Altavoces surround SB-S500 8Ω 100 W (DIN) ■ Speaker demagnetizing design SB-LV500 SB-C500 The front speakers and center speaker are designed to be used in close proximity to TV, but irregular coloring may result due to how the system is placed. If such distortion occurs, turn off the TV for sometime between 15 and 30 minutes. The demagnetizing function of the TV should eliminate the distortion. If irregular coloring is continues visible, then move the speaker further away from the TV. Protection circuitry These units incorporate speaker protection circuitry to protect the speaker from damage caused by excessive input or abnormal signals; when excessive input is detected, input is automatically interrupted. ■ If sound is interrupted or changed... 1. Reduce the volume of the receiver (or amplifier). 2. Check the sound source and connections for any problems. If there is no problem, the protection circuitry will reset in a few minutes. ■ After the protection circuit is reset... Take care not to turn the receiver’s volume up too high. 12 1.
