50167617 GILA® 3-IN-1 HEAT CONTROL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS B A C D BEFORE YOU BEGIN Please read these instructions carefully before you begin. If this is your first time installing window film, it’s a good idea to practice steps 3-9 with scraps of film you have left after step 2. Installation is easier with two people, especially on larger windows and surfaces. You can also watch our installation video on gilafilms.com. TOOLS YOU’LL NEED (Sold as a set: GILA Tool Kit) • GILA® Window Film Application Solution • 3-in-1 Squeegee Card • GILA® Trim Tool • Low-Lint Cloth F E G 6. Take the film from your helper, holding the film by the upper corners with the adhesive side facing the glass. Allow the film to flow onto the glass, aligning any straight factory edge with a straight edge of the glass. All non-factory edges of the film should overhang the glass edges by one inch. Once the film is in place, completely remove the loose liner as you hold the film in place. (Figure D) (Household items) • Single-edged razor blade • Tape measure • Transparent tape • Scissors • Rubber squeegee 1. CLEAN WINDOW 7. 2. 8. MEASURE AND CUT FILM Note: If working on frameless glass panes, use a ruler to guide your trim-tool, leaving a 1/16’’- 1/8”gap along the edge. Hint! The GILA Trim Tool has a razor point at the tip. It’s designed to provide a small, consistent, and clean gap between film edge and the frame of your glass. This is especially helpful with installation on framed glass. Do not use excessive force which would dull the point or damage the glass. Hint! Use at least one of the factory edges as a finished “pre-cut” edge to reduce final trimming of film on the glass. Work in a dust-free area with any nearby fans shut off. LOOSEN CLEAR LINER 9. Now dry away moisture around the glass perimeter: wrap the card with the low-lint cloth and push in short strokes a few inches from each glass edge out to the borders. Dab the edges of the film dry. If you see large air bubbles, squeegee them out. Don’t’ worry about small water bubbles. They should evaporate as the film cures. WET GLASS AND FILM Generously spray application solution onto the glass surface and both sides of the film (to reduce static electricity during liner removal in the next step). (Figure B) Hint! CORRECTING MISTAKES: If you see air bubbles or debris between the film and the glass, don’t worry. Film can be lifted and adjusted for 10-15 minutes after placement, before the adhesive begins to set. Before starting, be sure that the gasket/edge areas of the film have been towel-dried to keep contaminated moisture out. Use the trim tool to lift a film corner and grasp with clean fingertips. Then immediately spray the exposed adhesive side of the film with application solution. Wipe away any contaminants with clean fingertips, flush the affected area, and allow the film to flow back into place. Now spray, re-squeegee and dry the area as you did in earlier installation steps. Hint! Have a helper hold the film by the upper corners, with the liner side (previously inside the roll) facing your helper while you spray. Turn the film around now with the liner side facing you. 5. SQUEEGEE DRY After edges are fully trimmed, check to make sure your film is lying flat. (If it isn’t, see the hint below.) Now spray the entire glass surface again with application solution. Take the card and squeegee out the film to remove moisture: begin at the top center and use firm push strokes out towards the edge, alternating directions, slowly moving down the window to the very bottom. (Figure G) Loosen a corner of your film’s clear liner now, to make future steps easier. Keep your film flat and select an upper corner. Attach just the end of a three-inch piece of transparent tape to each side of the corner, folding the free tape end to make a “pull-tab.” Next, peel the two tabs of tape sharply apart, separating the layers just a bit. You’ll pull them fully apart later. (Figure A) 4. TRIM FILM EDGES Place the razor point of the trim tool into an upper corner, push it through the film, and gently pull the tool downward, while pushing slightly outward using the window frame as your guide as you trim along the frame. Cut close and straight. Repeat this process on all untrimmed edges. (Figure F) Unroll the film on a clean, flat surface, with the film’s natural curl (liner-side) facing down. Carefully measure your window before cutting. Cut the film at least one inch larger than the glass on all four sides. The excess will be trimmed once film is applied. 3. SMOOTH FILM IN PLACE Spray the entire surface of the film again with the application solution. Use the squeegee card to firmly press down the film in a strip at the center, moving from top to bottom of glass. This single downward stroke immobilizes the film and prevents movement while you work. Using firm, overlapping push strokes with the yellow squeegee card systematically press out the application solution in horizontal strokes, left and right, from the middle outward, starting at the top moving slowly downward. Leave a two-inch edge around the outside of the glass un-squeegeed. (Figure E) Generously spray the glass with application solution, on the side where you plan to apply film. Use a razor blade to remove stubborn dirt or paint. Spray again, then squeegee downward. Wipe off accumulated dirt from lower edges and/or gaskets with the low-lint cloth. If possible, also clean the outside of the glass. This will be visually helpful to ensure you’ve fully cleaned the inside surface. Hint! If glass is greasy or has a hazy film, use glass cleaner to pre-clean it, then rinse thoroughly with application solution before starting this step. For best results, install film in a cool, shaded area with a temperature between 45-90ºF. Do not install in direct sunlight or freezing weather. Hot glass may make installation difficult, and glass surface must not be allowed to drop below freezing for a few days after installation. APPLY FILM TO WINDOW REMOVE CLEAR LINER If you have a helper, he can continue holding the film for this step. Grasp the two tabs of tape you attached in step 3 and use them to help you slowly pull the liner away. As you pull, completely saturate the exposed, adhesive side of the film with application solution. Continue peeling and spraying until three or four inches of liner is still attached at the bottom. If using an ammonia-based glass cleaner, do not allow the cleaner to stay on the film for more than two minutes. INTENDED USE: Do not use Gila® 3-in-1 Heat Control product on the following window types: • Standard clear, dual pane windows • Standard clear, dual pane windows with a non-solar control low-e coating (commonly manufactured between 1970-1995) • Triple pane windows • Glass with embedded wire mesh • Textured or frosted glass • Motor vehicle windows • Materials other than glass, including plexiglass • Glass that is cracked, scratched, flawed or more than 40 years old FOR WINDOWS LARGER THAN FILM SIZE: To cover larger windows, you may need to seam the film, as you would wallpaper. To obtain a perfect butt seam, vertically overlap two sides, then use a ruler as a straight edge to guide your knife as you cut through the center of both layers of film. After cutting the seam line, peel the loose sheet of film from the top, then lift the edge and pull the other waste piece from underneath. Rewet the glass, lay down the film, rewet the film, then squeegee in the same direction as the seam line. Never squeegee across (at right angle to) the seam line, as the seam may be lifted and the film damaged. The limited warranty coverage herein is made solely to the original purchaser of GILA window films and may not be transferred. INSTRUCTIONS D'INSTALLATION 3 EN 1 DU CONTRÔLE DE CHALEUR GILA® AVANT DE COMMENCER Veuillez lire ces instructions attentivement avant de commencer. Si c'est la première fois que vous installez un film de fenêtre, il serait une bonne idée de pratiquer les étapes 3 à 9 avec de petits morceaux de film qu'il vous restera après l'étape 2. L'installation est plus facile lorsqu’effectuée avec deux personnes, particulièrement avec des fenêtres et certaines surfaces de verre recommandées. NETTOYER LA FENÊTRE Sur le côté où vous souhaitez appliquer le film, vaporisez abondamment le verre avec la solution d'application Utilisez une lame de rasoir pour enlever la peinture ou les taches tenaces. Vaporisez de nouveau et passez le racloir en descendant. À l'aide du chiffon à faible peluche, essuyez la saleté accumulée sur les bords et les joints. Nettoyez aussi l'extérieur du verre si possible. Cette action sera utile visuellement afin de vous assurer que la surface intérieure est nettoyée complètement. Truc! Si le verre est gras ou a un film brumeux, utilisez un nettoyant à vitres pour pré-nettoyer et bien rincer ensuite avec la solution d'application avant de commencer cette étape. Pour de meilleurs résultats, installez le film dans un endroit frais et ombragé et à une température entre 7° C et 32° C (45-90 °F). Ne pas faire l'installation sous la lumière du soleil ou par temps très froid. Le verre chaud pourrait rendre l'installation difficile et la température de la surface de verre ne doit pas tomber au-dessous du point de congélation dans les quelques jours après l'installation. 2. MESURER ET COUPER LE FILM Déroulez le morceau entier du film sur une surface propre et plane avec l'intérieur du rouleau face vers le bas pour une coupe plus facile. Mesurez soigneusement votre fenêtre avant de couper. Coupez le film au moins 2,5 cm (1 pouce) plus larges que le verre sur les quatre côtés. L'excès sera découpé une fois le film appliqué. Truc! Utilisez au moins une des bordures fabriquées comme bordure prédécoupée finie, et ce, afin de réduire le découpage final du film sur le verre. Travaillez dans un endroit sans poussière avec les ventilateurs en arrêt (le cas échéant). 3. DESSERRER LA BANDE TRANSPARENTE Desserrez un coin de la bande transparente de votre film pour faciliter les étapes suivantes. Gardez votre film à plat et sélectionnez un coin supérieur. N'attachez que l'extrémité de l'adhésif transparent (morceau de 7,5 cm) à chaque côté du coin et pliez ce qui reste de l'adhésif en un onglet Décollez ensuite les deux onglets d'adhésif pour séparer un peu les couches. Vous les décollerez complètement plus tard. 4. MOUILLER LE VERRE ET LE FILM Vaporisez abondamment la solution d'application sur la surface de verre et sur le côté du film n'ayant pas de bordure (pour réduire l'électricité statique lors de l'enlèvement de la bordure à l'étape suivante). Truc! Demandez l'assistance de quelqu'un pour tenir le film les coins supérieurs avec le côté de la bordure (précédemment à l'intérieur du rouleau) lui faisant face pendant que vous vaporisez. Maintenant, tournez le film avec la bordure face à vous. 5. RETIRER LA BORDURE TRANSPARENTE Pour cette étape et si vous avez l'assistance de quelqu'un, celui-ci peut continuer de tenir le film. Saisissez les deux onglets d'adhésif que vous avez attaché à l'étape 3 et les utiliser pour tirer lentement la bordure. Pendant que vous tirez, saturez complètement le côté adhésif exposé du film avec la solution d'application. Continuez à décoller et à vaporiser le côté adhésif jusqu'à ce qu'il ne reste que 7 à 10 centimètres (3-4 pouces) du film toujours attaché au bas. Ceci aidera à prévenir un roulage. 6. APPLIQUER LE FILM À LA FENÊTRE Prenez le film en le tenant par les coins supérieurs avec le côté adhésif faisant face au verre. Permettez au film de s'étendre sur le verre, alignant toute bordure fabriquée droite avec une bordure droite du verre. Toutes les bordures non fabriquées du film doivent dépasser les bords du verre de 2,5 cm (un pouce). Une fois le film en place, retirez complètement la bordure lâche pendant que vous tenez le film en place. 7. LISSER ET METTRE EN PLACE Vaporisez de nouveau toute la surface du film avec la solution d'application. En vous déplaçant de haut en bas du verre, utilisez la carte racloir pour appuyer fermement le film en une ligne au centre. Ce trait vertical simple immobilise le film et prévient le mouvement pendant que vous travaillez. En commençant lentement par le haut vers le bas, poussez et chevauchez avec la carte racloir en appuyant systématiquement la solution d'application en traits horizontaux, de gauche à droite et à partir du milieu vers l'extérieur. Gardez une bordure non raclée de cinq centimètres (2 pouces) autour de l'extérieur du verre. 8. DÉCOUPER LES BORDURES DU FILM Placez la pointe du rasoir de l'outil de découpage dans un coin supérieur, poussez-le à travers le film et tirez doucement l'outil vers le bas en poussant légèrement vers l'extérieur (tout en utilisant le châssis de la fenêtre comme guide) pendant que vous découpez le long du cadre. Coupez de près et droit. Répétez cette procédure sur tous les bords non coupés. Note : Si vous travaillez sur des vitres sans cadre, utilisez une règle pour guider votre outil de découpage en laissant un espace de 1,6 mm a 3,2 mm (1/16 po - 1/8 po) le long de la bordure. Truc!
