CLIPPER MAINTENANCE
When you cut your hair, you should visualize the head as if it were divided
into four sections. Image below shows the different sections. Using proper
techniques when moving from one section to the next will help you blend the
sections together for professional looking results.
• The first time you cut hair, cut only a small amount of hair until you become
accustomed to the length of hair each attachment guard provides.
• For best results, hair should be dry before using clipper.
• For best results, when cutting hair, go through hair at a slow, even speed.
Don’t force the clipper through the hair.
• For best results, go through the hair against the direction of your hair’s growth,
so you can catch more hair with the guard.
• The blades on your new clipper should be oiled every few haircuts.

Attachment guards help you cut hair to a desired length by keeping the blades at set distance
from the skin, helping ensure an even hair length after cutting hair with a guard attached to the
clipper. For easy reference, each guard is numbered and lists what length the hair will be after
being cut using the noted size guard. Always start with a longer length guard (you can always
use a shorter length guard if the length is not short enough). The first time you cut hair, cut
only a small amount of hair until you become accustomed to the length of hair each attachment
guard provides. To achieve an even “tapered” cut around the ears, use the LEFT and RIGHT
tapered attachment guards. To trim eyebrow hair, use the BROW trim attachment guard.
Before adding or removing guards from clipper, make sure the on/off switch is turned off
(or in “0” position). Not all kits include all the different size and style of guards listed in this
instruction sheet.
Your kit will include a set
of either ‘Standard’ or ‘Elite’
attachment guards.
REMOVING BLADES: 9179, 9179LP, and 2240 Only
Before removing blades, make sure the on/off switch is turned to the “0” or “OFF” position.
• Hold the clipper in both hands. Using both thumbs,
push the blades away from the front of the clipper.
• The blade set with the top and bottom blades
will come off in one piece.
DETACHABLE BLADES: 9179, 9179LP, and 2240 Only
ATTACHING BLADES: 9179, 9179LP, and 2240 Only
Before reattaching blades, make sure the on/off switch is turned to
the “0” or “OFF” position.
•
(1) To reattach the blade, place the hook at the bottom
of the blade set into the space provided on the clipper
housing.
•
(2) Pivot the blade set toward the housing. Once it is
seated, snap blade set to case so that you hear a click.
CLEANING DETACHABLE BLADES:
9179, 9179LP, and 2240 Only
Use the cleaning brush(es) provided to removed hair from between the
blades, 9179, 9179LP, and 2240LP detachable blades are rinseable
with water, however, rest of the clipper is NOT washable. After cleaning
blades, oil blades as noted above.
OIL BLADES:
The blades on your new clipper
should be oiled every few haircuts.
When oiling your clipper, turn the clipper “ON - I,”
hold the unit with the blades facing DOWN and squeeze
three drops across the front of the blade and one drop
on each side on the heel of the blade. Wipe off excess
oil with soft cloth.
NOTICE—DO NOT OVER OIL!
Excessive oiling or application of liquids will cause
damage if allowed to seep back into motor.
DO NOT USE HAIR OIL, GREASE, OR ANY OIL
MIXED WITH KEROSENE OR ANY SOLVENT.
TAPER LEVER: 2240LP and PPL Only
The taper lever adds versatility to your clipper by allowing you to gradually change the
closeness of your cut, ideal for blending and fading. Lever in “Up” Position = Closest Cut;
Lever in “Down” Position = Longest Cut. Should the blades become jammed with hair, move
the taper lever up and down several times to help free up the blades.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If your clipper does not seem to take a charge, check the following before returning it for repair:
1) Check outlet operation by plugging in another appliance.
2) Make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch which turns the power at the outlet off.
3) Be sure the clipper is properly connected to the charging cord, all connections are secure
and the switch on the clipper is turned “OFF - 0.”
4) If your electricity is connected to a master power switch, we suggest the clipper be
disconnected from the charging cord anytime the master switch is off. Leaving the unit
plugged into a dead outlet or an unplugged charger will drain the battery.
5) If clipper does not run and it is completely charged, turn the unit “ON - I” and pinch
or push the blades manually. (Oil may have dried out between the blades, so they may be
temporarily stuck together.)
LITHIUM-ION BATTERY REPLACEMENT,
CLIPPER DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING:
• For battery replacement send the entire, intact clipper unit to:
Wahl Annex 3001, North Locust, P.O. Box 578, Sterling, IL 61081
• Do not attempt to remove the battery. Lithium-Ion batteries can explode,
catch fire, and/or cause burns if disassembled, damaged, or exposed to
water or high temperatures.
• If you choose not to replace the battery, the entire clipper unit must be disposed.
• Do not attempt to remove the battery for disposal. Lithium-Ion batteries may be subject
to local disposal regulations. Many locations prohibit disposal in standard waste
receptacles. Check your local laws and regulations.
• For recycling contact a government recycling agency, waste disposal service, retailer, or
visit online recycling sources, such as www.batteryrecycling.com or www.rbrc.org.
CHARGING:
1) Before the clipper is used for the first time, it should be fully charged.
a. PPL and 9179: Unit should be charged approximately 3-5 hours for a full charge.
b. 2240LP, 9649LP, 9179LP Only: Unit should be charged approximately 2-3 hours for
a full charge.
2) After initial charge, clipper can be “Quick Charged” for 15 minutes. This should allow
enough power for one haircut.
3) To charge, turn off clipper and connect the charging cord plug into any convenient
electrical outlet at the correct voltage.
4) CHARGE INDICATORS:
a. PPL Only: Not all PPL clippers include a charge indicator light.
On PPL clippers with an indicator light, the light will not turn off or change color after
clipper is fully charged. The power indicator light illuminates to reflect when the
charger is properly connected to the clipper and plugged in. Light will not indicate
when the clipper needs to be recharged.
b. 9179 Only: When clipper is charging, the indicator light will be red,
when unit is fully charged, the light will turn green.
c. 2240LP, 9179LP, 9649LP Only: The indicator light will be red while charging and green
when fully charged or when running. The light will flash red when the battery is low.
5) When clipper is not in use, it may be connected to the charging cord and plugged into
an outlet to assure maximum power is available when it is next used. This transformer is
designed to charge the battery without overcharging. The clipper cannot be overcharged,
so you may charge it as often as desired.
6) The charging cord should be removed from the clipper when not charging. Leaving the
charging cord connected to the clipper without being plugged in may cause the battery to
drain.
7) The cord should not be used to pull the clipper. Since freedom of movement needs to be
maintained, care should be used to keep the cord untwisted and unobstructed. When
stored, the cord should be coiled and unit placed in original box or storage case (if
provided), away from children.
ALIGNING CLIPPER BLADES:
2240LP and PPL Only
Your Wahl clipper blades were oiled and aligned before leaving our factory. Blades may need to be
realigned if they have been bumped or removed for cleaning. To determine if realignment is
necessary, compare your clipper blades with this sketch.
1) If your clipper has a taper lever, position the lever in the closest cut (up) position.
2) End of top blade teeth should be approximately 1/32-inch (.64 mm) back from bottom blade.
3) Extreme left-hand tooth of top blade must be covering or to the left of the first small tooth
of bottom blade.
4) Extreme right-hand tooth of top blade must be touching the big tooth on the bottom blade.
If blade alignment is incorrect, add a few drops of Wahl Clipper Oil to the blades, turn clipper
“ON” for a few moments, turn “OFF” and unplug. Loosen screws slightly and adjust. Tighten
screws after blades are aligned. Other than blades, this clipper has no user-serviceable parts.

Lithium Cordless Clippers
When you want to blend from one section to the next, you will need to practice moving the
clipper in an upward rocking motion. This motion will leave the hair slightly longer where the
clipper pulls away from the scalp, enabling you to blend between the sections and achieve
a smooth transition from one length of hair to the next. This technique will enhance the
appearance of your haircuts.

9179LP clippers have a push button on/off switch. The unit has as travel lock feature to prevent
accidental activation during shipment and travel. To activate or deactivate the travel lock feature,
press and hold the on/off button for 3 seconds. Indicator light will flash green 3 times when
lock is deactivated and will flash red when lock is activated.

Para lograr un corte “desvanecido” uniforme alrededor de las orejas, utilice las protecciones

CÓMO QUITAR LAS CUCHILLAS: 9179, 9179LP, y 2240
Antes de quitar las cuchillas, asegúrese de que el interruptor de
encendido/apagado se encuentre en la posición “0” o “APAGADO”.
• Sostenga la cortadora con ambas manos. Utilizando los dos
pulgares empuje las cuchillas, separándolas del frente de la
cortadora.

ACEITE LAS CUCHILLAS:
Las cuchillas de su nueva cortadora se
deben aceitar cada varios cortes.
Cuando lubrique su recortadora, colóquela en posición de encendido
(“ON – I”), sostenga la unidad con las cuchillas mirando hacia
ABAJO y escurra tres gotas por la parte delantera de las cuchillas y
una en cada lado de la parte plana de la cuchilla. Limpie el exceso
de aceite con un paño suave.

La aplicación excesiva de aceite o líquidos ocasionará daños si se

LIMPIEZA DE LAS CUCHILLAS: Cortadoras PPL y 2240L
Use los cepillos limpiadores incluidos para eliminar el pelo entre las cuchillas. NO UTILICE
AGUA PARA LIMPIAR LAS CUCHILLAS (cortadoras PPL y 2240L). Para obtener mejores
resultados, después de limpiar las cuchillas añada aceite para cortadora Wahl a las cuchillas.
PALANCA GUÍA: Las cortadoras 9179 no tienen palanca guía
La palanca guía agrega versatilidad a su cortadora, permitiéndole cambiar gradualmente la
cercanía del corte, y es ideal para mezclar y desvanecer. Palanca en posición “arriba” = corte
más cercano; palanca en posición “abajo” = corte más largo. Si las cuchillas se atascaran
con cabello, mueva la palanca hacia arriba y abajo varias veces para ayudar a despejar las
cuchillas.
SOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS:
Si parece que la cortadora no se carga, verifique lo siguiente antes de llevarla a reparar:
1) Verifique el funcionamiento del tomacorriente enchufando otro aparato.
2) Asegúrese de que el tomacorriente no esté conectado a un interruptor que corta la energía
del tomacorriente.
3) Asegúrese de que la cortadora esté conectada correctamente al cable de carga, que
todas las conexiones estén firmes y que el interruptor de la cortadora esté en la
posición “OFF – 0”.
4) Si la electricidad está conectada a un interruptor general, sugerimos desconectar la
cortadora del cable de carga cuando el interruptor general esté apagado. Si deja la unidad
enchufada a un tomacorriente sin energía o un cargador desenchufado, se descargará la
batería.
5) Si la cortadora no funciona y tiene la carga completa, encienda la unidad (posición “ON
– I”) y comprima o empuje las cuchillas en forma manual. (Es posible que se haya
secado aceite entre las cuchillas y que por eso estén temporalmente pegadas).
ALINEACIÓN DE LAS CUCHILLAS DE LA CORTADORA:
2240LP y PPL
Las cuchillas de su cortadora Wahl se aceitaron y alinearon antes de salir de la fábrica.
Es posible que deba volver a alinear las cuchillas si se golpearon o se retiraron para una
limpieza. Para determinar si es necesario volver a alinearlas, compare las cuchillas de su
cortadora con este dibujo.
1) Si su cortadora tiene una palanca guía, coloque la palanca en la posición de corte más al ras
(arriba).
2) El extremo de los dientes de la cuchilla superior debe estar aproximadamente 1/32 pulg.
(0.64 mm) detrás de la cuchilla inferior.
3) El diente que se encuentra más a la izquierda de la cuchilla superior debe cubrir o estar a la
izquierda del primer diente pequeño de la cuchilla inferior.
4) El diente que se encuentra más a la derecha de la cuchilla superior debe tocar el diente grande
de la cuchilla inferior.
Si la alineación de las cuchillas es incorrecta, agregue unas gotas de aceite para cortadora
Wahl a las cuchillas, encienda la cortadora por unos momentos, apague y desenchufe. Afloje
los tornillos un poco y ajuste. Apriete los tornillos después de alinear las cuchillas. Además
de las cuchillas, esta cortadora no tiene más piezas que requieran mantenimiento del usuario.
DESECHO Y RECICLAJE
COLOCACIÓN:
Mientras lo sostiene ligeramente inclinado,
coloque el protector sobre la cortadora
de manera que las puntas de la cuchilla
queden sobre las ranuras en los dientes del
protector. (Fig. A)
Utilice su pulgar para empujar el protector
hacia abajo, en donde se encuentra el
número de tamaño, hasta que escuche un
chasquido. (Fig. B)
DESMONTAJE:
Mientras sostiene la parte superior del
protector, coloque su pulgar en la parte inferior
de la lengüeta del protector. Levante la lengüeta
para sacar el protector de la cortadora. (Fig. C)

CÓMO COLOCAR LAS CUCHILLAS: 9179, 9179LP, y 2240
Antes de volver a colocar las cuchillas, asegúrese de que el interruptor
de encendido/apagado se encuentre en la posición “0” o “APAGADO”.
•
Las cuchillas se pueden lavar directamente alrededor
del área de las cuchillas en la carcasa únicamente.
Evite lavar las áreas alrededor del interruptor de
apagado/encendido y las áreas de conexión del
adaptador de electricidad.

Use los cepillos de limpieza incluidos para eliminar el cabello entre
las cuchillas. Las cuchillas desmontables 9179 pueden enjuagarse
con agua, pero el resto de la cortadora NO es lavable.
SEGURO DE VIAJE: Solo 9179LP
Las cortadoras 9179LP tienen un botón de encendido/apagado. La unidad tiene una función
de seguro de viaje para evitar que se active accidentalmente durante los períodos de
transporte y viaje. Para activar o desactivar la función de seguro de viaje, mantenga oprimido
el botón de encendido/apagado durante 3 segundos. La luz indicadora se parpadeará en color
verde 3 veces cuando se desactive el seguro, y parpadeará en rojo cuando el seguro esté
activado.
REEMPLAZO DE LA BATERÍA DE IONES DE LITIO, DESECHO Y
RECICLAJE DE LA CORTADORA:
• Para reemplazar la batería, envíe la unidad cortadora completa e intacta a:

• No intente extraer la batería. Las baterías de iones de litio pueden explotar,
incendiarse y ocasionar quemaduras si se desarman, se dañan o se exponen
al agua o a altas temperaturas.
• Si decide no reemplazar la batería, debe desechar la unidad cortadora completa.
• No intente extraer la batería para desecharla. Pueden existir reglamentos locales que
gobiernen el desecho de las baterías de iones de litio. Muchos lugares prohíben el desecho
en recipientes de basura estándar. Consulte las leyes y reglamentos de su localidad.
• Para el reciclaje, comuníquese con un organismo de reciclaje gubernamental, servicio de
eliminación de desechos o establecimiento minorista, o visite recursos de reciclaje en línea
como www.batteryrecycling.com o www.rbrc.org.
CARGA:
1) Antes de utilizar la cortadora por primera vez, se debe cargar por completo.
a. PPL y 9179: La unidad debe cargarse aproximadamente de 3 a 5 horas para una carga
completa.
b. Solo 2240LP, 9649LP, 9179LP: La unidad debe cargarse aproximadamente de 2 a 3
horas para una carga completa.
2) Después de la carga inicial, puede hacer una “carga rápida” de su cortadora en 15
minutos. Esto debería darle suficiente carga para un corte de cabello..
3) Para cargarla, apague la cortadora y enchufe el cable de carga en un tomacorriente
adecuado con el voltaje correcto.
4) INDICADORES DE CARGA:
a. Solo PPL: No todas las cortadoras PPL incluyen una luz indicadora de carga.
En
las cortadoras PPL con luz indicadora, la luz no se apagará ni cambiará de color
cuando la cortadora esté completamente cargada. La luz indicadora de carga se
enciende para indicar que el cargador está conectado correctamente a la cortadora y
