OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

Thisisapropane,direct-fired,forcedairheater.It'sintendeduse

isprimarilytemporaryheatingofbuildingsunderconstruction,

alterationorrepair.

Propaneisheavierthanair.Ifpropaneleaksfromaconnectionor

fitting,itsinkstothefloor,collectingtherewiththesurrounding

air,formingapotentiallyexplosivemixture.Obviously,propane

leaksshouldbeavoided,sosetupthepropanesupplywithutmost

care.ReadenclosedOdorFadeandPropaneSheetforadditional

informationaboutdetectingpropaneleaks.Leakchecknew

connectionsorreconnectionswithasoapandwatersolutionand

followallconnectioninstructionsherein.Also,askyourpropane

dealerforadviceonthepropaneapplicationandsupplyinstallation

andaskhimtocheckitifthereareanyquestions.

Thisheaterwasdesignedandcertifiedforuseasaconstruction

heaterinaccordancewithANSIStandardZ83.7/CGA2.14.Check

withyourlocalfiresafetyauthorityifyouhaveanyquestionsabout

yourapplications.Otherstandardsgoverntheuseoffuelgasesand

heatproductingproductsinspecificapplications.Yourlocalauthority

canadviseyouaboutthese.

Direct-Firedmeansthatallofthecombustionproductsenterthe

heatedspace.Eventhoughthisheateroperatesverycloseto100

percentcombustionefficiency,itstillproducessmallamountsof

carbonmonoxide.Carbonmonoxide(calledCO)istoxic.Wecan

toleratesmallamountsbutnotalot.COcanbuildupinaheated

spaceandfailuretoprovideadequateventilationcouldresultin

death.Thesymptomsofinadequateventilationare:

 •headache

 •dizziness

 •burningeyesandnose

 •nausea

 •drymouthorsorethroat

So,besuretofollowadviceaboutventilationintheseoperating

instructions.

ForcedAirmeansthatablowerorfanpushestheairthroughthe

heater.Propercombustiondependsuponthisairflow;therefore,

theheatermustnotberevised,modifiedoroperatedwith

partsremovedormissing.Likewise,safetysystemsmustnotbe

circumventedormodifiedinordertooperatetheheater.

Whentheheateristobeoperatedinthepresenceofotherpeople

theuserisresponsibleforproperlyacquaintingthosepresentwith

thesafetyprecautionsandinstructions,andofthehazardsinvolved.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Checktheheaterthoroughlyfordamage.DONOToperatea

damagedheater.

2. DO NOTmodifytheheateroroperateaheaterwhichhasbeen

modifiedfromitsoriginalcondition.

3. Useonlypropanegas.

4. UseonlyVAPORWITHDRAWALpropanesupply.Ifthereisany

questionaboutvaporwithdrawal,askyourpropanedealer.

5. Mountthepropanecylindersvertically(shutoffvalveup).

Securethemfromfallingorbeingknockedoverandprotect

themfromdamage.

6. Locatepropanecontainersatleast(USA)7ft.(2.13m),(Canada)

10ft.(3m)fromtheheateranddo notdirectexhausttoward

containers.

7. IMPORTANTUseonlythehoseandregulatorassembly

providedwiththeheater.Matchthecolorstripeonthehang

tagattachedtothehoseassemblywiththecoloronthelabel

locatednearthepropaneinletfittingontheheater.Inspect

hoseassemblybeforeeachuseoftheheater.Ifthereis

excessiveabrasionorwear,orhoseiscut,replacewithhose

assemblylistedonpartslistbeforeusingheater.

8. Forindooruseonly.Areamustbewellventilated.Provide

minimumopeningsof1/2sq.ft.(.046m²)nearthefloor

and1/2sq.ft.(.046m²)neartheceiling(alsosee"Operating

Precautions").

9. Ifatanytimegasodorisdetected,IMMEDIATELY

DISCONTINUEoperationuntilthesourceofgashasbeen

locatedandcorrected.ReadenclosedOdorfadeandPropane

topreventflappingormovementduetowindaction.

12. Duetothehighsurfaceandexhausttemperatures,adultsand

childrenmustobserveclearancestoavoidburnsorclothing

ignition.

13. Operateonlyonastable,levelsurface.

14. Donotusewithductwork.Donotrestrictinletorexit.

15. Useonlytheelectricalpowerspecified.Theelectrical

connectionandgroundingmustcomplywithNationalElectrical

Code-ANSI/NFPA70(USA)andCSAC22.1CanadianElectrical

FUEL GAS ODOR

LP gas and natural gas have man‑made odorants added

specifically for detection of fuel gas leaks.

If a gas leak occurs you should be able to smell the fuel

gas. Since Propane (LP) is heavier than air you should

smell for the gas odor low to the floor. ANY GAS ODOR

IS YOUR SIGNAL TO GO INTO IMMEDIATE ACTION!

 •Donottakeanyactionthatcouldignitethefuelgas.Do

notoperateanyelectricalswitches.Donotpullanypower

supplyorextensioncords.Donotlightmatchesorany

othersourceofflame.Donotuseyourtelephone.

 •Geteveryoneoutofthebuildingandawayfromthearea

immediately.

 •Closeallpropane(LP)gastankorcylinderfuelsupply

valves,orthemainfuelsupplyvalvelocatedatthemeterif

youusenaturalgas.

 •Propane(LP)gasisheavierthanairandmaysettleinlow

areas.Whenyouhavereasontosuspectapropaneleak,

keepoutofalllowareas.

 •Useyourneighbor’sphoneandcallyourfuelgassupplier

andyourfiredepartment.Donotre-enterthebuildingor

area.

 •Stayoutofthebuildingandawayfromtheareauntil

declaredsafebythefirefightersandyourfuelgassupplier.

 •FINALLY,letthefuelgasservicepersonandthefirefighters

checkforescapedgas.Havethemairoutthebuildingand

areabeforeyoureturn.Properlytrainedservicepeople

mustrepairanyleaks,checkforfurtherleakages,andthen

relighttheapplianceforyou.

ODOR FADING ‑ NO ODOR DETECTED

•Somepeoplecannotsmellwell.Somepeoplecannotsmell

theodoroftheman-madechemicaladdedtopropane(LP)

ornaturalgas.Youmustdetermineifyoucansmellthe

odorantinthesefuelgases.

 •Learntorecognizetheodorofpropane(LP)gasand

naturalgas.Localpropane(LP)gasdealerswillbemore

thanhappytogiveyouascratchandsniffpamphlet.Useit

tobecomefamiliarwiththefuelgasodor.

 •Smokingcandecreaseyourabilitytosmell.Beingaround

anodorforaperiodoftimecanaffectyoursensitivityto

thatparticularodor.Odorspresentinanimalconfinement

buildingscanmaskfuelgasodor.

•The odorant in propane (LP) gas and natural gas is

colorless and the intensity of its odor can fade under

some circumstances.

 •Ifthereisanundergroundleak,themovementofgas

throughthesoilcanfiltertheodorant.

 •Propane(LP)gasodormaydifferinintensityatdifferent

levels.SincePropane(LP)gasisheavierthanair,theremay

bemoreodoratlowerlevels.

• Always be sensitive to the slightest gas odor. Ifyou

continuetodetectanygasodor,nomatterhowsmall,treat

itasaseriousleak.Immediatelygointoactionasdiscussed

previously.

 •Propane(LP)gashasadistinctiveodor.Learntorecognize

theseodors.(ReferenceFuelGasOdorandOdorFading

odorsofpropane(LP)gasandnaturalgas.

 •Ifyouhavenotbeenproperlytrainedinrepairandservice

ofpropane(LP)gasthendonotattempttolightheater,

performserviceorrepairs,ormakeanyadjustmentstothe

heateronthepropane(LP)gasfuelsystem.

 •Aperiodicsnifftestaroundtheheaterorattheheater’s

joints;i.e.hose,connections,etc.,isagoodsafetypractice

underanyconditions.Ifyousmellevenasmallamountof

gas,CONTACTYOURFUELGASSUPPLIERIMMEDIATELY.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARING FOR OPERATION

1. Checktheheaterforpossibleshippingdamage.Ifanyisfound,

immediatelynotifythefactory.

2. Followallofthe"Precautions".

3. ConnectthePOLfittingofhoseandregulatorassemblytothe

propanecylinderbyrotatingthePOLnutcounterclockwiseinto

thepropanecylinder'svalveoutletandsecurelytightenwitha

wrench.

4. Connectthehosetotheheaterbyrotatingthehosefitting

clockwise.

5. Securelytightenallgasconnections.

6. Openthecylinder'sgasvalveandcheckallgasconnections

withasoapandwatersolution.DONOTUSEAFLAME.

7. Connectpowercordtowell-grounded115V,60Hz,1Øsource

ofpower.

8. Whenusinganextensioncord,makecertainthatitisa3-wire

(grounded)cordofproperwiresize,minimumlengthof6ft

(1.83m).

START

1. THE HEATER POWER CORD MUST BE CONNECTED TO

A GROUNDED 115V, 60HZ, 1Ø POWER SOURCE BEFORE

HEATER IGNITIONandalwaysallowheaterfan(blower)torun

for20secondstopurgefuel.

2. Openpropanesupplyvalveonpropanetankslowly.Note:If

notopenedslowly,excess-flowcheckvalveonpropanetankwill

stopgasflow.Ifthishappens,closepropanesupplyvalveand

openagainslowly.Wait15secondsbeforeStep3.

3. Pushandholdautomaticcontrolvalvebutton.Pushpiezo

ignitorbuttonrepeatedlyuntiltheburnerlights.

4. Aftertheburnerlights,keepthegasvalvebuttondepressed

for30secondsthenreleaseandtheheaterwillcontinueto

operate.

WARNING:Besuremotorandfanarerunningbeforepushing

inautomaticcontrolvalvebutton.Flamescouldflashoutside

heaterorinternaldamagetoheatermayresultifmotorandfan

arenotrunning.

STOP

1. Securelyclosevalveonthepropanecylinder.

2. Continuetooperateheateruntilallfuelinthehosehasburned.

3. Unplugthepowercord.

CAUTION:Alwaysshutofffuelsupplybeforedisconnecting

electricalpower.

RESTART AFTER SAFETY SHUTDOWN

1. Securelyclosevalveatpropanecylinder.Unplugpowercord.

2. Wait5minutes.

3. Restartfollowing"START"procedure.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

1. Theheatershouldbeinspectedbeforeeachuse,andatleast

annuallybyaqualifiedperson.

2. Beforeeachuse,checkthesoft"O"ringseatatthebullnose

ofthePOLfitting.Ifthe"O"ringiscut,scuffed,orotherwise

damaged,replaceitwithpartnumber6681.

3. TurnoffthegasattheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)whentheheater

isnotinuse.

4. Whentheheateristobestoredindoors,theconnection

betweentheLP-gassupplycylinder(s)andtheheatermust

bedisconnectedandthecylinder(s)removedfromtheheater

andstoredoutofdoorsandinaccordancewithChapter5of

thestandardforStorageandHandlingofLiquefiedPetroleum

GasesANSI/NFPA58andCSAB149.1,NaturalGasandPropane

InstallationCode.

SERVICING

Ahazardousconditionmayresultifaheaterisusedthathasbeen

modifiedorisnotfunctioningproperly.Whentheheaterisworking

properly:

* Theflameiscontainedwithintheheater.

* Theflameisessentiallybluewithperhapssomeyellowtipping.

* Thereisnostrongdisagreeableodor,eyeburningorother

physicaldiscomfort.

* Thereisnosmokeorsootinternalorexternaltotheheater.

* Therearenounplannedorunexplainedshutdownsofthe

heater.

Thepartslistsandexplodedviewshowtheheaterasitwas

constructed.Donotuseaheaterwhichisdifferentfromthatshown.

Inthisregard,useonlythehose,regulatorandcylinderconnection

fitting(calledaPOLfitting)suppliedwiththeheater.IMPORTANT

Matchthecolorstripeonthehangtagattachedtothehoseassembly

withthecoloronthelabellocatednearthepropaneinletfittingon

theheater.Donotusealternates.Forthisheater,theregulatormust

besetasshownin"specifications".Ifthereisanyuncertaintyabout

theregulatorsetting,haveitchecked.

Aheaterwhichisnot workingrightmustberepaired,butonly by a

trained,experiencedserviceperson.

In-warrantyproductswillberepairedwithnochargeforeitherparts

orlabor.Pleaseincludeabriefstatementindicatingdate,placeof

purchase,thenatureoftheproblemandproofofpurchase.

6. Placezlesréservoirsdegazpropaneàunedistanceminimale

(auxÉtats-Unis)de2,13m(7pi)ou(auCanada)de3m(10pi)

del'appareildechauffageetn'orientez pasl'échappement

directementverslesréservoirs.

7. IMPORTANT Utilisezuniquementletuyauetlerégulateur

fournisavecl'appareil.Faitescorrespondrelabandede

couleurdel'étiquettefixéeautuyauàlacouleurdel'étiquette

situéeprèsduraccordd'entréedegazpropanesurl'appareil.

Inspectezletuyauavantchaqueutilisationdel'appareilde

chauffage.Encasd'abrasion,d'usureexcessiveoudecoupure,

Des additifs odorants ont été ajoutés au gaz propane liquéfié et

Vous devriez remarquer une odeur de gaz combustible s'il y

a une fuite. Comme le gaz propane (liquéfié) est plus lourd

que l'air, l'odeur de gaz se détecte plus facilement près du sol.

atravésdelcalentador.Lacombustióndependedeesteflujode

OLOR A GAS COMBUSTIBLE

Los gases LP y el gas natural contienen sustancias aromáticas

artificiales añadidas específicamente para facilitar la detección

de fugas de gas.

Si se produjera una fuga de gas, usted debe poder oler el

gas combustible. Dado que el propano (LP) es más pesado

que el aire, debe tratar de detectar el olor lo más cerca del

piso posible. ¡CUALQUIER OLOR A GAS SERÁ LA SEÑAL PARA

TOMAR MEDIDAS INMEDIATAMENTE!

 •Nohaganadaquepudierainflamarelgascombustible.Noactive

ningúninterruptoreléctrico.Nodesconecteningunatomade

corrientenicablesdeextensión.Noenciendafósforosnininguna

otrafuentedellamas.Noutiliceelteléfono.

 •Saqueatodaslaspersonasdeledificioyaléjelasdelárea

inmediatamente.

 •Cierretodaslasválvulasdesuministrodecombustibledelos

cilindrosodeltanquedegaspropano(LP),olaválvulaprincipal

desuministrodecombustiblequeseencuentraenelmedidorsi

empleagasnatural.

 •Elgaspropano(LP)esmáspesadoqueelaireypuedeasentarse

enáreasbajas.Cuandosospechequepuedehaberunafugade

propano,manténgasealejadodelasáreasbajas.

natural.Losdistribuidoreslocalesdepropano(LP)ledarán

congustounpanfletoconmuestrasdeolores.Utilícelopara

familiarizarseconelolordelgascombustible.

 •Elhábitodefumarpuededisminuirelsentidodelolfato.

Exponerseaunolorduranteunperíodopuedeafectarsu

sensibilidadaeseolorespecífico.Losolorespresentesen

instalacionesdondesecríananimalespuedenenmascararelolor

delgascombustible.

•La sustancia aromática presente en el gas propano (LP) y en

el gas natural es incolora y la intensidad de su olor puede

desvanecerse en algunas circunstancias.

ENCENDIDO

2. Abralentamentelallavedepasodelgaseneltanque.Nota:Si

nolaabrelentamente,laválvuladecontroldeexcesodeflujodel

tanquedepropanointerrumpiráelflujodelgas.Siestosucede,

cierrelallavedepasoyvuelvaaabrirlalentamente.Espere

15segundosantesdecontinuarconelPaso3.

3. Oprimaymantengapresionadoelbotóndelaválvulade

controlautomático.PresioneelbotóndelencendedorPiezo

repetidamentehastaqueseenciendaelquemador.

4. Luegodequeseenciendaelquemador,mantengapresionadoel

botóndelaválvuladegasdurante30segundosyluegosuéltelo;

elcalentadorcontinuaráfuncionando.

ADVERTENCIA: Verifiquequeelmotoryelventiladorestén

funcionandoantesdepresionarelbotóndelaválvuladecontrol

automático.Sielmotoryelventiladornoestánfuncionando,

podríanescaparllamasdelcalentadoroproducirsedaños

internosenelcalentador.

1. Cierrefirmementelaválvuladelcilindrodepropano.

2. Continúeusandoelcalentadorhastaquetodoelcombustible

delamanguerasehayaquemado.

3. Desenchufeelcabledealimentación.

CUIDADO: cierresiempreelsuministrodecombustibleantes

REINICIO LUEGO DEL APAGADO DE SEGURIDAD

1. Cierrefirmementelaválvuladelcilindrodepropano.Desenchufe

elcabledealimentación.

2. Espere5minutos.

3. Reiniciesegúnseindicaenlasecciónsobreelprocedimiento

de“ENCENDIDO“.

MANTENIMIENTO Y ALMACENAMIENTO

1. Debeinspeccionarelcalentadorantesdecadausoyhacerlo

revisarporunapersonacalificadaunavezporaño.

2. Antesdecadauso,revisesiempreelasientodelanillode

gomaqueseencuentraenelextremodelacopledelPOL.Siel

anillo“O“presentacortes,raspadurasocualquierotrodaño,

reempláceloporlapiezanúmero6681.

3. CierrelasalidadegasenloscilindrosdesuministrodegasLP

cuandonoestéutilizandoelcalentador.

4. Cuandodebaguardarelcalentadorenunlugarcerrado,

deberádesconectarlaconexiónentreelcilindrooloscilindros

desuministrodegasLPyelcalentador,ydeberáretirarlosdel

calentadoryguardarlosenunlugaralairelibre,comoseespecifica

enelCapítulo5delosestándaresANSI/NFPA58yCSAB149.1

paraalmacenamientoymanipulacióndegasesdelpetróleolíquido

delCódigodeinstalacióndepropanoygasnatural.

REPARACIÓN

Sepuedeproducirunasituaciónderiesgosiseutilizauncalentador

cuyaconfiguraciónoriginalhayasidomodificadaosinoestá

funcionandocorrectamente.Cuandoelcalentadorfunciona

correctamente:

* Lallamaardeenelinteriordelcalentador.

* Lallamaesfundamentalmenteazulypuedeteneralgunas

terminacionesamarillas.

* Nosepercibeunolordesagradablefuerte,noardenlosojos

ynohayningúnotrotipodeincomodidadfísica.

* Nohayhumonihollíndentronifueradelcalentador.

* Elcalentadornoseapagainesperadamenteoinexplicablemente.

Laslistasdepiezasyeldiagramaextendidomuestranlaconfiguración

originaldelcalentador.Noutiliceuncalentadorqueseadiferente

delquesemuestra.Enestesentido,utiliceúnicamentelamanguera,

elreguladoryelacopledeconexión(denominadoacoplePOL)

suministradosconelcalentador.IMPORTANTE:Hagacoincidirla

franjadecolordelaetiquetacolgantequeseencuentraenelacople

delamangueraconelcolordelaetiquetasituadacercadelacoplede

entradadelpropanoenelcalentador.Noutilicepiezasalternativas.

Paraestecalentador,elreguladordebeestarinstaladocomose

muestraenlasección“Especificaciones“.Sihayalgunadudaacerca

delainstalacióndelregulador,hagaquelorevisen.

Siuncalentadornofuncionacorrectamentedebeserreparado,pero

soloporuntécnicodemantenimientocapacitadoyexperimentado.

Paralosproductosengarantía,lareparaciónserealizarásincostos

depiezasnimanodeobra.Incluyaunabrevedeclaraciónindicando
