2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the
plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed
(grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching
outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such
as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an
increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water
entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying,
pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away
from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension
cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for
outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable,
use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected
supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.
g) A GFCI with a tripping current of 30mA or less is recommended.
3) Personal safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common
sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power
tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating
power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye
protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-
skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the
off-position before connecting to power source and/or
battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power
tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools
that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the

1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas
invite accidents.

power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

PREVENTING PROBLEMS. The symbols below are used to help
you recognize this information.
DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE: Used without the safety alert symbol indicates a
potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in
property damage.

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at
all times. This enables better control of the power tool in
unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep

Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust
extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are
connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can
reduce dust-related hazards.
4) Power tool use and care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for
your application. The correct power tool will do the job better
and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it
on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the
switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the
battery pack from the power tool before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the
power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do
not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these
instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding
of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition
that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged,
have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are
caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained
cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and
are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in
accordance with these instructions, taking into account the

working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of
the power tool for operations different from those intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
5) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person
using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that
the safety of the power tool is maintained.
HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY WARNINGS
DANGER:
Keep hands away from blade. Contact with blade
will result in serious personal injury.
• Use both hands when operating the hedge trimmer. Using
one hand could cause loss of control and result in serious
personal injury.
• Keep all parts of the body away from the cutter blade. Do not
remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades
are moving. Make sure the switch is off when clearing jammed
material. Blades coast after turn off. A moment of inattention
while operating the hedge trimmer may result in serious personal
injury.
WARNING: Only use with
auxiliary
handle and guard properly
assembled to hedge trimmer. The use of the hedge trimmer without
the proper guard or handle provided may result in serious personal
injury.
• Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the cutter blade stopped.
Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will reduce possible personal injury
from the cutter blades.
• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only,
because the cutter blade may contact hidden wiring. Cutter
blades contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of
the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Keep extension cord away from cutting area. During operation
the extension cord may be hidden in shrubs and can be
accidentally cut by the blade.
• Check the hedge for foreign objects, e.g. wire fences.
CAUTION: Do not expose to rain.

WARNING: Remove plug from the outlet immediately if the
extension cord becomes damaged or cut.
WARNING: Some dust created by this product contains
chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth
defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these
chemicals are:
• compounds in fertilizers
• compounds in insecticides, herbicides and pesticides
• arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber
To reduce your exposure to these chemicals, wear approved safety
equipment such as dust masks that are specially designed to filter out
microscopic particles.

EXTENSION CORDS
When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough
to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord
will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and
overheating. The following table shows the correct size to use
depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt,
use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the
heavier the cord.

ATTACHING EXTENSION CORD TO TRIMMER
WARNING: Ensure the trigger switch is not engaged to reduce
the risk of starting the
appliance accidentally.
A cord retainer is incorporated
into the rear of the handle on
the power head.
• Near the end of the extension
cord, fold the extension cord
to create a loop.
• Feed the loop into the cord
retainer housing (8) as
shown in Figure C.
• Hook the loop onto the cord retainer (9) so it rests in the cord
retainer.
• Plug the extension cord into the power head.

TO TURN THE TOOL ON
To turn the tool “ON”, slide the lock off
button, shown in figure D, backward
and squeeze the trigger switch. Once
the unit is running, you may release
the lock off button.
In order to keep the unit running you
must continue to squeeze the trigger.
To turn the tool “OFF”, release the
trigger.

WARNING: Only use with handle and guard properly
assembled to hedge trimmer. The use of the hedge trimmer

The trimmer is shipped with
the guard unattached to
the trimmer. To attach the
guard:
• Position the guard in place
as shown in figure A.
• Insert the phillips head
screws into the openings
on the side of the guard
and tighten securely as
shown in figure B.

TRIMMING INSTRUCTIONS
1. EXTENSION CORD – (Figure
E) Always keep extension cord
behind trimmer and away from the
trimming operation. Never drape
it over a hedge being trimmed.
If you cut or damage the cord,
unplug it at the electrical outlet
immediately, before inspecting or
repairing cord.
2. WORKING POSITION – Maintain
proper footing and balance and
do not overreach. Wear safety
goggles, non-skid footwear and
rubber gloves when trimming. Hold the tool firmly in both hands
and turn the tool ON. Always hold the trimmer, as shown in
figure E, with one hand on the switch handle and one hand on
the auxiliary handle. Never hold the tool by the blade guard.
3. TRIMMING NEW GROWTH - (Figure
F) – A wide, sweeping motion,
feeding the blade teeth through
the twigs is most effective. A slight
downward tilt of the blade, in the
direction of motion gives the best
cutting.
CAUTION: Do not use trimmer for cutting stems greater than
5/8 in. (16mm). Use the trimmer only for cutting normal shrubbery
found around houses and buildings.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Remove extension cord from trimmer before
servicing, cleaning or removing material from the gardening appliance.
The cutting blades are made from high quality, hardened steel and
with normal usage, they will not require resharpening. However, if
you accidentally hit a wire fence (figure I), stones,
glass or other hard objects, you may put a nick in
the blade. There is no need to remove this nick
as long as it does not interfere with the movement
of the blade. If it does interfere, unplug the cord
and use a fine toothed file or sharpening stone to
remove the nick. If you drop the trimmer, carefully
inspect it for damage. If the blade is bent, housing
cracked, or handles broken or if you see any other
conditionthatmayaffectthetrimmer’soperation
contact your local
Black & Decker Service Center for repairs before putting it back into use.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which greatly
accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do not store the unit on or
adjacent to fertilizers or chemicals.
Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the unit. Never let
any liquid get inside the unit; never immerse any part of the unit into
a liquid. Prevent the blades from rusting by applying a film of light
machine oil after cleaning.
ACCESSORIES
WARNING: DO NOT use the Hedge Trimmer with any type of
accessory or attachment. Such usage might be hazardous.

BLACK+DECKER warrants this product for two years against any
defects in material or workmanship. The defective product will be

the retailer from whom it was purchased (provided that the store is a
participating retailer). Returns should be made within the time period of
theretailer’spolicyforexchanges(usually30to90daysafterthesale).

3) Sécurité personnelle
a) Être vigilant, surveiller le travail effectué et faire preuve

vêtements amples ni de bijoux. Garder les cheveux, les
vêtements et les gants à l’écart des pièces mobiles. Les
vêtements amples, les bijoux ou les cheveux longs risquent de
rester coincés dans les pièces mobiles.
g) Si des composants sont fournis pour le raccordement de
dispositifs de dépoussiérage et de ramassage, s’assurer
que ceux-ci sont bien raccordés et utilisés. L’utilisation
d’un dispositif de dépoussiérage peut réduire les dangers
engendrés par les poussières.
4) Utilisation et entretien d’un outil électrique

ADVERTENCIAS DE SEGURIDAD PARA
CORTASETOS
PELIGRO:
Mantenga las manos alejadas de la hoja. El contacto
con la hoja resultará en una lesión corporal grave.
• Utilice ambas m
anos al operar el cortasetos. Si utiliza una sola
mano podría perder el control y provocar graves lesiones
personales.
• Mantenga todas las partes del cuerpo alejadas de la hoja
cortadora. No saque el material cortado ni sujete el material
que va a ser cortado cuando las hojas estén en movimiento.
Asegúrese de que el interruptor esté apagado cuando saque
material atascado. Las hojas se deslizan después de apagarse.
Un momento de falta de atención cuando se maneja la podadora
de setos puede ocasionar lesiones corporales graves.
ADVERTENCIA: Usar solamente con el mango y el protector
bien ensamblados en la podadora de setos. El uso de la podadora
de setos sin el protector adecuado o el asa provista puede ocasionar
graves lesiones personales.
• Transporte el cortasetos sosteniéndolo por el mango con
la hoja cortadora inmóvil. Coloque siempre la cubierta del
dispositivo de corte al transportar o guardar el cortasetos.
Una correcta manipulación del cortasetos reducirá la posibilidad
de lesiones personales provocadas por las hojas cortadoras.
• Sostenga la herramienta eléctrica únicamente por las
superficies de agarre aisladas, ya que la hoja de corte podría
entrar en contacto con cables eléctricos ocultos o con su
propio cable. El contacto de las hojas de corte con un cable
con corriente eléctrica puede provocar que las partes metálicas
expuestas de la herramienta eléctrica también conduzcan la
corriente y que el operador sufra una descarga eléctrica.
• Aléjatedeláreadecortedecabledeextensión.Durantela
operación el cable de extensión puede ser ocultado en arbustos y
puede ser cortado accidentalmente por la hoja.
• Compruebe la cobertura por objetos extraños, por ejemplo cercas
de alambre.

CABLES PROLONGADORES
Utilice un cable adecuado para uso en exteriores a fin de reducir el
riesgodedescargaeléctrica.Cuandoutiliceuncableprolongador,
asegúrese de que tenga la capacidad para conducir la corriente
que su producto exige. Un cable de menor capacidad provocará
unadisminuciónenelvoltajedelalíneaqueproducirápérdida
de potencia y sobrecalentamiento. La siguiente tabla muestra la
medida correcta que debe utilizar según la longitud del cable y la
capacidad nominal en amperios indicada en la placa. En caso de
duda, utilice el calibre inmediatamente superior. Cuanto menor es el
número de calibre, más grueso es el cable.

INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN
PARA ENCENDER LA HERRAMIENTA
Para encender la herramienta,
deslice hacia atrás el botón de
bloqueo como se muestra en la
Figura D y oprima el interruptor
de gatillo. Una vez que la unidad
estéfuncionando,puedesoltarel
botón de bloqueo. Para mantener la
unidad funcionando, debe mantener
oprimido el gatillo. Para apagar la
herramienta, suelte el gatillo.

1. CABLE DE EXTENSIÓN – (Figura E)
Mantenga siempre el cable de
extensión detrás del cortacerco y
alejado de la operación de corte. No
lo deje nunca sobre un cerco que se
está cortando. Si usted corta o daña
elcable,desconéctelodel
tomacorriente inmediatamente,
antes de inspeccionar o reparar.
2. POSICIÓN DE TRABAJO –
Mantenga la pisada firme y el
balance apropiado todo el tiempo y
no se extralimite. Use protección
para los ojos, calzado protector
antirresbalante y guantes de goma
mientras corta. Mantenga la herramienta firmemente con ambas
manos y PRENDA la herramienta. Siempre sostenga la podadora,
como se muestra en la Figura E, con una mano en el mango del
interruptor y una mano en el estribo de suspensión. Nunca sujete
la herramientaporel protegehoja.
• Inserte los tornillos de
cabeza Phillips en los
orificios que se encuentran
en el costado del protector
y ajústelos firmemente
como se muestra en la
Figura B.

retenedor para cable.
• Cerca del extremo del cable de extensión, doble el cable de
extensión para crear un lazo.
• Inserte el cable prolongador en el alojamiento del retenedor para cable
(8) (Figure C).
• Forme un lazo con el cable prolongador alrededor del retenedor
para cable (9) de manera que se apoye en este.
• Luego, enchufe el cable prolongador en la unidad motriz.

3. CORTE DE NUEVA VEGETACIÓN - (Figura F) –
Lo más efectivo es un movimiento de
barrido amplio, con los dientes de la
hojaavanzandoatravésdelas
ramitas. Una inclinación leve de la
hoja, en dirección del movimiento, da
el mejor resultado al cortar.
PRECAUCIÓN: No utilice la
podadora para cortar tallos de más de 19
mm (3/4 pulgada). Use la podadora solo
para cortar los arbustos comunes
alrededor de casas y edificios.
4. CERCOS NIVELADOS (Figura G) –
Para obtener cercos perfectamente
nivelados, se puede montar un cordel a
lolargodelcercoyusaréstecomoguía.
5. CORTE LATERAL (Figura H) –
Comience por la parte inferior, y vaya
ascendiendo con movimiento de
barrido.

MANTENIMIENTO
ADVERTENCIA: Quiteelcable
prolongador del cortasetos antes de realizar
tareas de mantenimiento, limpieza o extracción de

Las hojas de corte están hechas de acero templado
de gran calidad y no requieren ser afiladas si se les
da un empleo normal. Sin embargo, si golpea
accidentalmente (fig. I) una cerca de alambre,
piedras, vidrios u otros objetos de dureza similar, la
hojas pueden resultar con mellas.

No hay necesidad de eliminar las melladuras mientras no interfieran
con el movimiento de las hojas. En caso que interfiera, desenchufe
el cable y utilice una lima de dientes finos o una piedra de afilar
para eliminar la muesca. Si accidentalmente suelta la cortasetos,
revíselaconcuidadoenbuscadedaños.Silahojasedobla,
se cuartea la cubierta o se rompen el asa o la empuñadura, o si
encuentra alguna otra condición que afecte la operación de la
podadora, lleve la unidad a su Centro de Servicio Black & Decker
para que la reparen antes de volverla a utilizar.
Losfertilizantesyotrosproductosquímicosparajardinería
contienen agentes que aceleran la corrosión en los metales. No
guarde la herramienta en lugares adyacentes a fertilizantes u otros
productosquímicos.
Para limpiar la unidad, utilice únicamente jabón suave y un paño
húmedo.Nuncapermitaqueseintroduzcanlíquidosenla
herramienta,nisumerjaningunapartedeellaenningúnlíquido.
Puedeevitarqueseoxidenlashojasaplicándolesunapelículade
aceitelivianoparamáquinasdespuésdelimpiarlas.
