“We do a lot of research to make sure it’s
worth the money,” said Halbert about the
gadget selection process, including looking
online to see what’s available. That’s how
they came across the original Corkcicle
wine chiller, which was mentioned in a blog.
“We were the rst in Tyler to get it,” she said.
Halbert relies on her manufacturer’s reps
to bring her new items as well, and she at-
tends the markets in Atlanta and Dallas.
Stebbins from The Kitchen Outlet also uses
reps for ideas, watches food-related shows
for ideas and goes to the Los Angeles gift
shows twice a year.
In her 1,200-square-foot store in Pawleys
Island, S.C., Lonna Handley showcases gad-
gets on a 25-foot long, 6-foot high wall and
in a series of custom-built cubicles.
“We have a lot of square footage devoted
to it,” she said of Pawleys Pantry gadget
assortment. “We’re known for our gadgets.”
Handley prides herself on carrying hard-
to-nd items among the more than 1,500
tools in her store. Like Halbert, she carries
the ChopStir, as well as the stainless steel
Kwit Cut Chopper that can be used to cut
onions and other vegetables.
