The MY8-SDI-ED is an HD/SD-SDI Embed/De-embed Mini-YGDAI card for use
with compatible Yamaha professional audio equipment. The card enables you to de-
embed up to two audio groups (four channels per group; total eight channels) to a
host device, by selecting them from four audio groups (total 16 channels) that have
been embedded into an SDI signal. This card also enables you to embed the audio
output signals of a host device into one or two audio groups to be output as an HD/
SD-SDI signal.
To take full advantage of the superior functionality of the MY8-SDI-ED and enjoy
years of trouble-free use, please read this manual before you begin using the product.

INPUT Connector
This is a BNC connector that inputs HD/SD-SDI signals. To use the card on a
host device, you must always input SDI signals to the INPUT connector.
2 THRU Connector
This is a BNC connector that outputs re-clocked HD/SD-SDI signals.
3 OUT1, OUT2 Connectors
These are BNC connectors that output HD/SD-SDI signals. The same signals will
be routed to both the OUT1 and OUT2 connectors.
Note:
We recommend that you use a 5C-FB coaxial cable, or a coaxial cable that features excellent
performance equivalent to that of the 5C-FB cable. The 5C-FB cable transmits HD-SDI
signals over a distance of up to 130 meters, and SD-SDI signals up to 150 meters.
4 SDI STATUS LEDs
[IN] LED: Indicates the status of SDI inputs.
[A1-4] LED: Indicates the status of input ports 1 through 4.
[A5-8] LED: Indicates the status of input ports 5 through 8.

If no errors have occurred, the LED indicators will light green. If an error has
occurred, you will be able to identify the type of error based on the status of the
LED indicators as shown in the list below.
Note:
If multiple errors have occurred simultaneously, the priority of the SDI STATUS LEDs
indication is the descending order of the list above.
5 GROUP SELECT Switches
Selects a group of audio input/output signals.
Move the switches down to set them to ON. Raise the switches to set them to
OFF.
Note:
Do not change the switch settings if the host device is powered on. Otherwise, noise may
be generated.
•[IN 14]
These switches enable you to turn ON up to two SDI signal groups that you
want to input to the slot (host device). Audio signals can be de-embedded from
a selected group and routed to input ports 1–4 and 5–8 of the slot.
[OUT 1–4]
These switches enable you to turn ON up to two SDI signal groups that you
want to output from the slot (host device). Signals at output ports 1–4 and 5–8
of the slot can be embedded and routed to a selected group.

An error has occurred in the selected audio
group data.
8 MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual
Regardless of the [IN 1–4] settings, for those groups that were not selected via the
[OUT 1–4] switch settings, audio signals of those groups that are routed to the
INPUT connector will be embedded as is and output. For example, if neither
Group 2 nor Group 4 were selected via the [OUT 1–4] switch settings, audio
signals of those groups routed to the INPUT connector will be embedded as is
and output.
Note:
If only one switch is set to ON, audio will be input/output to/from ports 1–4 , but not to/
from 5–8.
If all four switches are set to OFF, no audio will be input or output to any ports 1–4 and
5–8.
If you attempt to set more than two GROUP SELECT switches to ON, only the first two
switches (in ascending order) will turn on for both IN and OUT.
For example, if you attempt to set the IN 2, IN 3 and IN 4 switches to ON, Group 2 and
Group 3 audio will be routed to input ports 1–4 and 5–8 of the slot respectively, but audio
will not be input from Group 4.

Dip Switches (SW1)
These switches determine various operations.
When the product is shipped from the factory, all SW1 dip switches are set to OFF.
1 Nat/Emu Switch
To use the card on a host device that does not support Native mode, such as a
Yamaha DM2000, set this switch to ON. You can configure this card to be
recognized and to function as an MY8-AE96 or MY8-AE digital I/O card. This is
called Emulation (Emu) mode.
To use the card on a host device that supports Native mode, such as a Yamaha
DSP5D, set this switch to OFF. You can take full advantage of the MY8-SDI-ED
functionality. For the latest information on compatible host devices, check the
Yamaha Professional Audio website.
Note:
If Emulation (Emu) mode is set to ON, the WORD CLOCK screen of the host device
appears as if you could select the MY8-SDI-ED as the master clock. However, in reality, you
cannot do so.

leave this switch set to OFF. If you are using the card with a Yamaha DIO8, set
this switch to ON.
OFF: This card will be recognized as a Yamaha MY8-AE96 digital I/O card.
ON: This card will be recognized as a Yamaha MY8-AE digital I/O card.
Note:
MY8-AE96 mode (OFF setting) supports only double speed. You can select the 96 kHz
double channel on the host device, but it will not operate in double channel.
3 MUTE Switch
Typically, leave this switch set to OFF.
OFF: Audio will not be muted regardless of whether or not an HD/SD-SDI input
error is detected.
ON: Audio will be muted if an HD/SD-SDI input/output error is detected (the
SDI STATUS LED will light up in a color other than green.). Use this
setting if you want to use muted audio to indicate an error.
Note:
Keep in mind that connecting or disconnecting a cable may cause noise even if this switch
is set to ON.
4 TEST Switch
Be sure to leave this switch set to OFF. Otherwise, the card will not operate
properly.
Word clock settings
You cannot assign the MY8-SDI-ED as the master clock.
If you need to synchronize the host device to a house sync signal (external digital
system), use the WORD CLOCK IN connector to set the master clock of the host
device.
The audio I/O section of the MY8-SDI-ED features a sampling rate converter,
which will convert the sampling rate of the I/O signals depending on the settings
of the host device.

The MY8-SDI-ED is an HD/SD-SDI Embed/De-embed Mini-YGDAI card for use with compatible Yamaha professional audio equipment. The card enables you to deembed up to two audio groups (four channels per group; total eight channels) to a host device, by selecting them from four audio groups (total 16 channels) that have been embedded into an SDI signal. This card also enables you to embed the audio output signals of a host device into one or two audio groups to be output as an HD/ SD-SDI signal. To take full advantage of the superior functionality of the MY8-SDI-ED and enjoy years of trouble-free use, please read this manual before you begin using the product. About the host devices in which the MY8-SDI-ED can be installed Before installing the card in a host device, please check to make sure that the device is compatible with the card and check possible restrictions regarding the maximum number of Yamaha and third-party expansion cards that can be simultaneously installed. Refer to the owner’s manual supplied with the host device and/or Yamaha Pro Audio web site. Yamaha Pro Audio website: http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/ Installation information Please refer to the owner’s manual supplied with the host device for installation information. In addition to securing the card in place, the fixing screws at the left and right of the card function as electrical grounds. Be sure to screw them in tightly. Accessories Owner’s Manual (this document) MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual 5 Part Names and Functions ■ Panel 4 1 2 5 3 1 INPUT Connector This is a BNC connector that inputs HD/SD-SDI signals. To use the card on a host device, you must always input SDI signals to the INPUT connector. 2 THRU Connector This is a BNC connector that outputs re-clocked HD/SD-SDI signals. 3 OUT1, OUT2 Connectors These are BNC connectors that output HD/SD-SDI signals. The same signals will be routed to both the OUT1 and OUT2 connectors. Note: We recommend that you use a 5C-FB coaxial cable, or a coaxial cable that features excellent performance equivalent to that of the 5C-FB cable. The 5C-FB cable transmits HD-SDI signals over a distance of up to 130 meters, and SD-SDI signals up to 150 meters. 4 SDI STATUS LEDs [IN] LED: [A1-4] LED: [A5-8] LED: [OUT] LED: 6 Indicates the status of SDI inputs. Indicates the status of input ports 1 through 4. Indicates the status of input ports 5 through 8. Indicates the status of SDI outputs. MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual If no errors have occurred, the LED indicators will light green. If an error has occurred, you will be able to identify the type of error based on the status of the LED indicators as shown in the list below. LED Indicator Off (dark) Solid red Flashing red SDI STATUS LED [IN]/[OUT] Description of Error No SDI input is detected or routed. [A1–4]/[A5–8] [IN]/[OUT] No audio group has been selected. [IN] [A1–4]/[A5–8] [IN]/[OUT] Solid orange [A1–4]/[A5–8] SDI input or output is unlocked. An invalid format signal is being input to the SDI input. No selected audio group data exists. An error has occurred in the video signal of the SDI input/output. An error has occurred in the selected audio group data. Note: If multiple errors have occurred simultaneously, the priority of the SDI STATUS LEDs indication is the descending order of the list above. 5 GROUP SELECT Switches Selects a group of audio input/output signals. Move the switches down to set them to ON. Raise the switches to set them to OFF. Note: Do not change the switch settings if the host device is powered on. Otherwise, noise may be generated. • [IN 1–4] These switches enable you to turn ON up to two SDI signal groups that you want to input to the slot (host device). Audio signals can be de-embedded from a selected group and routed to input ports 1–4 and 5–8 of the slot. • [OUT 1–4] These switches enable you to turn ON up to two SDI signal groups that you want to output from the slot (host device). Signals at output ports 1–4 and 5–8 of the slot can be embedded and routed to a selected group. MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual 7 Regardless of the [IN 1–4] settings, for those groups that were not selected via the [OUT 1–4] switch settings, audio signals of those groups that are routed to the INPUT connector will be embedded as is and output. For example, if neither Group 2 nor Group 4 were selected via the [OUT 1–4] switch settings, audio signals of those groups routed to the INPUT connector will be embedded as is and output. Switch setting Selected group (Channels) IN/OUT 1 Group1 (ch1-4) IN/OUT 2 Group2 (ch5-8) IN/OUT 3 Group3 (ch9-12) IN/OUT 4 Group4 (ch13-16) Note: • If only one switch is set to ON, audio will be input/output to/from ports 1–4 , but not to/ from 5–8. • If all four switches are set to OFF, no audio will be input or output to any ports 1–4 and 5–8. • If you attempt to set more than two GROUP SELECT switches to ON, only the first two switches (in ascending order) will turn on for both IN and OUT. For example, if you attempt to set the IN 2, IN 3 and IN 4 switches to ON, Group 2 and Group 3 audio will be routed to input ports 1–4 and 5–8 of the slot respectively, but audio will not be input from Group 4. SDI signal Input ports of the slot (host device) Group1: ch1-4 Group2: ch5-8 Group3: ch9-12 Group4: ch13-16 8 MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual 1–4 5–8 ■ Dip Switches (SW1) ON 2 3 4 5 6 ON OF Na F MUAE96t/Emu ON TEST TE /AE 1 1 2 3 4 SW1 68 1 2 3 4 7 OFF ON Nat/Emu AE96/AE MUTE TEST These switches determine various operations. When the product is shipped from the factory, all SW1 dip switches are set to OFF. 1 Nat/Emu Switch To use the card on a host device that does not support Native mode, such as a Yamaha DM2000, set this switch to ON. You can configure this card to be recognized and to function as an MY8-AE96 or MY8-AE digital I/O card. This is called Emulation (Emu) mode. To use the card on a host device that supports Native mode, such as a Yamaha DSP5D, set this switch to OFF. You can take full advantage of the MY8-SDI-ED functionality. For the latest information on compatible host devices, check the Yamaha Professional Audio website. http://www.yamahaproaudio.com/ Note: If Emulation (Emu) mode is set to ON, the WORD CLOCK screen of the host device appears as if you could select the MY8-SDI-ED as the master clock. However, in reality, you cannot do so. MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual 9 2 AE96/AE Switch This switch is valid only when the Nat/Emu switch (1) is set to ON. Typically, leave this switch set to OFF. If you are using the card with a Yamaha DIO8, set this switch to ON. OFF: This card will be recognized as a Yamaha MY8-AE96 digital I/O card. ON: This card will be recognized as a Yamaha MY8-AE digital I/O card. Note: MY8-AE96 mode (OFF setting) supports only double speed. You can select the 96 kHz double channel on the host device, but it will not operate in double channel. 3 MUTE Switch Typically, leave this switch set to OFF. OFF: Audio will not be muted regardless of whether or not an HD/SD-SDI input error is detected. ON: Audio will be muted if an HD/SD-SDI input/output error is detected (the SDI STATUS LED will light up in a color other than green.). Use this setting if you want to use muted audio to indicate an error. Note: Keep in mind that connecting or disconnecting a cable may cause noise even if this switch is set to ON. 4 TEST Switch Be sure to leave this switch set to OFF. Otherwise, the card will not operate properly. ■ Word clock settings You cannot assign the MY8-SDI-ED as the master clock. If you need to synchronize the host device to a house sync signal (external digital system), use the WORD CLOCK IN connector to set the master clock of the host device. The audio I/O section of the MY8-SDI-ED features a sampling rate converter, which will convert the sampling rate of the I/O signals depending on the settings of the host device. 10 MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual Connection Example HD/SD-SDI device SDI Router THRU HD-SDI or SD-SDI OUT LCD (for montoring) MY8-SDI-ED Video Server VTR Mic DM1000 Appendix ■ Specifications HD-SDI/SD-SDI I/O CHARACTERISTICS HD-SDI I/O Signal SMPTE 292M (1.485 Gbps, 1.485/1.001 Gbps) SD-SDI I/O Signal SMPTE 259M-C (270 Mbps) Resolution 24 bit Fs 48 kHz Input level 800mV ±10% Output level 800mV ±10% Impedance 75 Ω Connector Input: 1 x BNC Output: 2 x BNC (same signal) Lines Selected 2 audio groups of 4 channels; total 8 channels HD-SDI/SD-SDI THRU OUTPUT CHARACTERISTICS SDI Output Signal Reclocked thru output Output level 800mV ±10% Impedance 75 Ω Connector 1 x BNC COMPATIBLE FORMAT SD-SDI 525i 59.94 625i 50 MY8-SDI-ED Owner’s Manual 69 HD-SDI 720p 50 1080i 50 1080p 25 1080sF 24 1035i 59.94 720p 59.94 1080i 59.94 1080p 29.97 1080sF 23.976 1035i 60 720p 60 1080i 60 1080p 30 1080p 24 1080p 23.976 120 (4-3/4") ■ Dimensions 12(1/2") 40(1-9/16") 164.1(6-7/16") 13.6(9/16") 177.7(7") Unit: mm(inch) * Specifications and descriptions in this owner’s manual are for information purposes only.
