By purchasing the SilverCrest SKW 5 B1 kitchen scale, hereinafter referred to as the kitchen scale,
you have opted for a quality product.
Before first using it, familiarize yourself with how the kitchen scale works and read these operating
instructions carefully. Be careful to follow the safety instructions and only use the kitchen scale as
described in the operating instructions and for the applications given.
Keep these operating instructions in a safe place. If you pass the kitchen scale on to someone else,
make sure to give them all the relevant documents with it.
1. Safety instructions
Before using the kitchen scale for the first time, carefully read
the following instructions and obey all warnings, even if you are
familiar with handling electronic devices. Keep this user manual
safe for future reference. If you sell or give the kitchen scale
away, provide this user manual, too.
Explanation of the symbols used
This symbol identifies an impending dangerous situation that, if
not avoided, could result in major injuries or even death.
This symbol warns against possible property damage.
This symbol indicates other important information

This symbol indicates that the kitchen scale
switches on automatically when any item
weighing min. 250 g / 0.55 lb. is placed on the
weighing surface (1). Remove this sticker before
using the kitchen scale.
• Do not allow children to play with the kitchen scale. Also,
keep the packaging foil away from children. It can cause
suffocation.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of
experience and knowledge, unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by
a person responsible for their safety. Children should be
supervised to ensure that they do not play with the
appliance.
• Do not exceed the kitchen scale weight allowance of 5
kg/11 lb. This could damage the kitchen scale and there is a
risk of electric shock.
• If the battery has leaked, remove them to avoid damaging
the kitchen scale. You can remove battery acid that has

leaked using a dry absorbent cloth. Wear appropriate
gloves while doing this! Avoid skin contact. If electrolyte
comes into contact with skin or eyes, wash the area for at
least 15 minutes using clean water and see a doctor.
• Exercise care in handling battery in order to prevent shorting
with conducting materials, such as rings, coins, bracelets, and
keys. The battery or the conductor can overheat and cause
burns.
• Do not dispose of the battery in a fire.
• Do not open or mutilate a battery or cell. Electrolyte from the
cell is corrosive and can cause damage to the eyes or skin.
The cell contents can also be hazardous if ingested.
• Only cells or batteries identified as "rechargeable" should be
charged.
• During normal use, batteries should not reach temperature
extremes that could cause burns. To mitigate potential burns,
batteries should not be handled immediately after use of the
device or charging.
• Charging a primary battery, by any means, may result in
leakage, fire, or explosion.
• Never short-circuit batteries, as this may lead to high
temperatures, leakage, fire, or explosion.

• Batteries should not be disassembled, crushed, punctured, or
otherwise mutilated. Such abuses may result in leakage, fire,
or explosion.
• Batteries should not be heated or exposed to temperatures
exceeding the manufacturer´s recommended maximum
temperature. Such thermal exposure may lead to leakage,
fire, or explosion.
• Chemical Burn Hazard. Keep batteries away from children.
• Keep cells and batteries out of reach of children, especially
small batteries fitting within the limits of the gauge as defined
in Figure 1. Ingestion may lead to choking or acute and
serious personal injury.

• Immediately seek medical attention if a cell or battery has
been swallowed. Also, contact your local poison control
center.
• This product contains a lithium button/coin cell battery. If a
new or used lithium button/coin cell battery is swallowed or
enters the body, it can cause severe internal burns and can
lead to death in as little as 2 hours. Always completely
secure the battery compartment. If the battery compartment
does not close securely, stop using the product, remove the
battery, and keep it away from children. If you think batteries
might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the
body, seek immediate medical attention.
• If you see smoke, hear unusual noises or smell odors, remove
the battery from the kitchen scale immediately. In these
cases, do not use the kitchen scale again before it has been
checked by an expert. Do not inhale the smoke from a
possible device fire. If you have inhaled the smoke, see a
doctor. Inhaling smoke can damage your health.
• To avoid hazards, do not damage the kitchen scale.
• Do not expose the kitchen scale to direct sources of heat (for
example, heaters), to direct sunlight or artificial light. Also

avoid contact with splashed water, dripping water or
aggressive liquids. Do not use the kitchen scale near water.
In particular, do not immerse the kitchen scale. Make sure
that the kitchen scale is not subjected to excessive vibrations
or shaking. Furthermore, do not let any foreign bodies get
inside. This could damage the kitchen scale.
• Make sure that no open fires (for example, burning candles)
are placed on or near the kitchen scale. There is the danger
of fire!
• Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery most
suitable for the intended use.
• Clean the battery contacts and also those of the device prior
to the battery installation.
• Remove battery from equipment that is not to be used for an
extended period of time.
• Remove used battery promptly.
• Battery contacts need to be clean, both on the battery and in
the appliance.
• Battery should be removed from the appliance when not
being used for long periods of time (months).
• Choose the proper battery for the intended application.
Follow the recommendations supplied with the appliance.

• Never charge a battery unless the battery label specifically
states that it is a rechargeable battery.
• Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged.
• Exhausted battery is to be removed from the product.
• Batteries should be stored in a cool dry place to prevent high
temperature degradation.
• Contacts on the battery and in the device should be kept
clean.
• Follow the recommendations supplied with the device for
purchasing the proper battery.
• Proper polarity must be observed to avoid charging or
damage to either equipment or battery.
2. Intended use
The purpose of this kitchen scale is to measure the weight of food. This kitchen scale must not be
used outside of closed rooms or in regions with a tropical climate. This kitchen scale is not intended
for business or commercial use. Use the kitchen scale solely for private purposes in living areas; any
other use is deemed improper. Only use the accessories specified by the manufacturer.
Please observe the national regulations and/or laws in the respective country of use.

7. Before you start
7.1 Activating the battery
Remove the strip from the battery compartment (5) on the bottom of the kitchen scale.
After removing the strip from the battery compartment (5), immediately place the
scale on a firm flat surface. Do not place any weight on the scale. Wait until the scale
displays “0 g”. The scale is now calibrated and can be used. If the scale does not
display “0 g”, refer to the “Scale displays incorrect values” section.
8. Getting started
A solid surface is required to measure weight correctly. Thus, always place the kitchen
scale on a firm and horizontal surface. Otherwise, the measurement result may be
distorted.
8.1 Switching on the kitchen scale/weighing
• Briefly press on the weighing surface (1), applying a little pressure to switch on the kitchen
scale.
You can also, for example, place a bowl with at least 250 g or 0.55 lb on the
weighing surface (1). The kitchen scale switches on and displays the measurement
result.
• The selected unit of measurement is indicated on the display (3).

• Press the UNIT button (4) to cycle through the units of measure in the following order: g / oz
/ lb:oz / ml / fl.oz
• Place the items to be weighed on the weighing surface (1).
• The measurement result is shown on the display (3).
• Remove the items to be weighed from the weighing surface (1) if you do not wish to weigh
anything else.
• If you want to add another item, refer to the next chapter “Weighing additional items”.
8.2 Weighing additional items
• Press the TARE button (2) to weigh additional items.
• The kitchen scale now resets to “Zero”. The display (3) now also reads “T”.
• Add the new item to be weighed. Display (3) shows the measurement result of the new item
to be weighed.
• Repeat the procedure if you want to add another item to be weighed. The maximum total
weight of 5 kg / 11 lb must not be exceeded.
• Remove the items to be weighed from the weighing surface (1) if you do not wish to weigh
anything else.
• Press the TARE button (2) to finish weighing additional items.
• The kitchen scale now resets to “Zero”. The display (3) no longer reads “T”.
8.3 Auto power off
The kitchen scale has an automatic switch-off function. When not in use, the kitchen scale switches
off automatically after approx. 3 minutes.
Press and hold the TARE button (2) for approx. 3 seconds to switch off the kitchen scale manually.

8.4 Replacing the battery
Replace the battery when it is empty. To replace the CR2032
lithium battery, remove the cover of the battery compartment (5)
on the bottom of the kitchen scale by unlocking the battery
compartment cover with a finger and then lifting it off.
To remove the battery, slide it down a bit (see the direction of the
arrow in the illustration). You can then remove the battery from
the holder.
Then insert a new CR2032 lithium battery. Always pay attention
to the polarity. It is indicated in the battery compartment (5), and
the plus symbol on the CR2032 lithium battery must be visible, as
shown in the adjacent illustration.
Then reinsert the 2 guide lugs of the battery compartment cover
into the corresponding recesses and press on the battery
compartment cover until it clicks in place.
After inserting the battery, immediately place the scale on a firm
flat surface. Do not place any weight on the scale. Wait until the
scale displays “0 g”. The scale is now calibrated and can be
used. If the scale does not display “0 g”, refer to the “Scale
displays incorrect values” section.
9. Troubleshooting
9.1 Nothing is indicated on the display
• The battery is empty. Please replace the battery with a new one of the same type. Please note
the instructions in the “Replacing the battery” section.
• The battery is inserted incorrectly. Please note the instructions in the “Replacing the battery”
section.
9.2 “LO” is indicated on the display, and the scale switches off
• The battery is almost empty. Please replace the battery with a new one of the same type.
Please note the instructions in the “Replacing the battery” section.

9.3 “EEEE” is indicated on the display
• The weight exceeds the maximum weight of 5 kg / 11 lb. Immediately remove the item to be
weighed from the weighing surface (1) to avoid damaging the kitchen scale.
9.4 Scale displays incorrect values
• The scale must be newly calibrated. Remove the battery from the scale, wait approx. 10
seconds, and insert the battery again. Then immediately place the scale carefully on a firm
flat surface. Do not place any weight on the scale. Wait until the scale displays “0 g”. The
scale is now newly calibrated and can be used. If the scale does not display “0 g”, repeat
the procedure.
10. Maintenance/cleaning
10.1 Maintenance
Maintenance is required if the kitchen scale has been damaged. For example, if the device housing
was damaged, liquid or objects penetrated the interior of the kitchen scale, or if it was exposed to
rain or moisture. Maintenance is also required if the bathroom scale does not work properly or was
dropped. If you notice any smoke, unusual noises, or strange smells, disconnect the kitchen scale
immediately from the battery. If this occurs, do not continue to use the kitchen scale and have it
checked out by an expert. All maintenance work must be carried out by qualified specialist
personnel. Never open the housing of the kitchen scale.
10.2 Cleaning
Clean the kitchen scale with a clean, slightly damp cloth only. Never use aggressive liquids. For
stubborn dirt, apply a small amount of detergent to the damp cloth.
11. Storage when not in use
If the kitchen scale is not used for an extended period, store it in a clean and dry place.
• Remove the battery.
• Before storing the kitchen scale, clean it as described in the previous chapter.

12. Environmental information and disposal specifications
12.1 Disposing of the packaging
Sort the packaging, before you dispose of it. Dispose of paperboard and
cardboard with the recycled paper service and wrappings with appropriate
collection service.
12.2 Disposing of used devices
Do not dispose of used devices in household trash! If you are not going to use the kitchen scale
anymore, dispose of it in accordance with the applicable regulations in your state or country. This
ensures that used devices are recycled professionally and that there are no negative consequences
for the environment.
Make sure that disposal conforms to the local regulations and the EPA recommendations
(www.epa.gov).
12.3 Disposing of batteries
Remove the battery from the device before it is scrapped. Even used cells may cause injury. Keep
environmental protection in mind. Used batteries do not belong in household trash. You must drop
them off at a collection point for used batteries. Keep in mind that batteries may only be deposited
in the collection bin for used device batteries when discharged or if, in the case of batteries that are
only partially discharged, you have taken measures to prevent short circuits.

14. Warranty
3 years limited warranty
What does this warranty cover?
The warranty covers:
• Damage, breakage or inoperability due to defect.
• Damage not caused by normal wear and tear or failure to follow the safety and maintenance
instructions provided in the user manual.
What is not covered by the warranty?
The warranty does not cover damage caused by:
• Normal wear and tear of the product, including fragile parts (such as switches, glass, etc.);
• Improper use or transport;
• Disregarding safety and maintenance instructions;
• Accidents or acts of nature (e.g. lightning, fire, water, etc.);
• Tampering with the product (such as removing cover, unscrewing screws etc.)
Consequential and incidental damages are also not covered under this warranty. However, some
states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so this
limitation or exclusion may not apply to you.
What is the period of coverage and warranty resolution?

• Este producto contiene una batería de litio tipo botón /
moneda. Si se ingiere o ingresa al cuerpo una batería de
litio tipo botón / moneda. nueva o usada, puede causar
quemaduras internas graves y llevar a la muerte en tan solo
2 horas. Siempre asegure muy bien el compartimiento de la
batería. Si el compartimiento de la batería no cierra bien,
deje de usar el producto, retire la batería y manténgala
alejada de los niños. Si cree que las baterías podrían haber

• Si ve humo, escucha ruidos inusuales o huele mal, de

7. Antes de empezar
7.1 Activación de la batería
Retire la tira del compartimento de la batería (5) en la parte inferior de la báscula de cocina.
Después de quitar la tira del compartimento de la batería (5), coloque
inmediatamente las básculas sobre una superficie horizontal sólida, pero no aplique
ninguna presión sobre las básculas. Espere hasta que las básculas indiquen "0 g". Las
básculas ahora han sido calibradas y están listas para usarse. En caso de que las
básculas no muestre "0 g", lea el capítulo "Las básculas indican valores incorrectos".
8. Primeros pasos
Se requiere un piso de superficie sólida para medir el peso correctamente. Por lo
tanto, coloque siempre la báscula de cocina sobre una superficie firme y horizontal.
De lo contrario, el resultado de la medición puede distorsionarse.
8.1 Encendido de la báscula de cocina / medición de peso
• Presione brevemente sobre la superficie de pesaje (1), aplicando un poco de presión para
encender la báscula de cocina.
También puede, por ejemplo, colocar un recipiente con al menos 250 g o 0.55 libras
en la superficie de pesaje (1). La báscula de cocina se enciende y muestra el
resultado de la medición.
• La unidad de medida seleccionada se indica en la pantalla (3).

• Retire los elementos a pesar de la superficie de pesaje (1) si no desea pesar nada más.

8.2 Pesaje de elementos adicionales
• Presione el botón TARE (2) para pesar elementos adicionales.
• La báscula de cocina ahora se restablece a "Cero". La pantalla (3) ahora también muestra
"T".
• Agregue el nuevo artículo a pesar. La pantalla (3) muestra el resultado de la medición del
nuevo artículo a pesar.
• Repita el procedimiento si desea agregar otro artículo para pesar. No se debe exceder el
peso total máximo de 5 kg / 11 lb.
• Retire los elementos a pesar de la superficie de pesaje (1) si no desea pesar nada más.
• Presione el botón TARE (2) para pesar elementos adicionales.
• La báscula de cocina ahora se restablece a "Cero". La pantalla (3) ya no muestra "T".
8.3 Apagado automático
La báscula de cocina tiene una función de apagado automático. Cuando no está en uso, la
báscula de cocina se apaga automáticamente después de aprox. 3 minutos.
Mantenga pulsado el botón TARE (2) durante aprox. 3 segundos para apagar la báscula de
cocina manualmente.

8.4 Reemplazo de la batería
Reemplace la batería cuando esté descargada. Para reemplazar
la batería de litio CR2032, retire la tapa del compartimiento de
la batería (5) en la parte inferior de la báscula de cocina
abriendo la tapa del compartimiento de la batería con un dedo
y luego levantándola.
Para quitar la batería, deslícela un poco hacia abajo (vea la
dirección de la flecha en la ilustración). A continuación, puede
extraer la batería del compartimiento.
Luego inserte una nueva batería de litio CR2032. Siempre preste
atención a la polaridad. Se indica en el compartimento de la
batería (5), y el símbolo más en la batería de litio CR2032 debe
estar visible, como se muestra en la ilustración adyacente.
Luego, vuelva a insertar las 2 orejetas guía de la tapa del
compartimento de la batería en los huecos correspondientes y
presione la tapa del compartimento de la batería hasta que
encaje en su lugar.
Después de insertar la batería, coloque inmediatamente las
básculas sobre una superficie horizontal sólida, pero no aplique
ninguna presión sobre las básculas. Espere hasta que las
básculas indiquen "0 g". Las básculas ahora han sido calibradas
y están listas para usarse. En caso de que las básculas no
muestre "0 g", lea el capítulo "Las básculas indican valores
incorrectos".
9. Solución de problemas
9.1 No se indica nada en la pantalla LC
• La batería está agotada. Reemplace la batería por otra nueva del mismo tipo. Tenga en
cuenta las instrucciones de la sección "Reemplazo de la batería".
• La batería está insertada incorrectamente. Tenga en cuenta las instrucciones de la sección
"Reemplazo de la batería".

9.2 "LO" se indica en la pantalla y la báscula de cocina se apaga
• La batería está casi agotada. Reemplace la batería por otra nueva del mismo tipo. Tenga en
cuenta las instrucciones de la sección "Reemplazo de la batería".
9.3 “EEEE” se indica en la pantalla
• El peso supera el peso máximo de 5 kg / 11 lb. Retire inmediatamente el artículo a pesar de
la superficie de pesaje (1) para evitar dañar la balanza de cocina.
9.4 Las básculas indican valores incorrectos
• Las básculas deben ser recalibradas. Para ello, retire la batería de las básculas, espere
aprox. 10 segundos y vuelva a insertar la batería. Luego, coloque inmediatamente las
básculas sobre una superficie horizontal sólida, pero no aplique ninguna presión sobre las
escalas. Espere hasta que las básculas indiquen "0 g". Las básculas se han recalibrado y
están listas para usarse. Si las básculas no muestran "0 g", repita los pasos anteriores.
10. Mantenimiento y limpieza
10.1 Mantenimiento
Se requiere mantenimiento si la báscula de cocina se ha dañado. Por ejemplo, si la carcasa del
dispositivo estaba dañada, líquidos u objetos penetraron en el interior de la báscula de cocina, o
si estuvo expuesto a la lluvia o la humedad. También se requiere mantenimiento si la báscula de
baño no funciona correctamente o se cayó. Si nota humo, ruidos inusuales u olores extraños,
desconecte la báscula de cocina inmediatamente de la batería. Si esto ocurre, no continúe usando
la báscula de cocina y haga que un experto la revise. Todo mantenimiento deben ser efectuado
por técnicos autorizados. Nunca abra la carcasa de la báscula de cocina.
10.2 Limpieza
Limpie la báscula de cocina solo con un paño limpio y ligeramente húmedo. Nunca use líquidos
agresivos. Para suciedad persistente, aplique una pequeña cantidad de detergente sobre el paño
húmedo.

11. Almacenamiento cuando no está en uso
Si el báscula de cocina no se usa por un período prolongado, guárdela en un lugar limpio y seco.
• Quite la batería.
• Antes de guardar la báscula de cocina, límpiela como se describe en el capítulo anterior.
12. Información ambiental y especificaciones de desecho
12.1 Desecho del empaque
Clasifique el empaque, antes de desecharlo. Deseche el papel y el cartón con el
servicio de papel reciclado y las envolturas con el servicio de recolección
adecuado.
12.2 Desecho de dispositivos usados
¡No deseche los dispositivos usados en la basura doméstica! Si ya no va a utilizar la báscula de
cocina, deséchela de acuerdo con las regulaciones vigentes en su estado o país. Esto asegura que
los dispositivos usados sean reciclados profesionalmente y que no haya consecuencias negativas
para el medio ambiente.
Asegúrese de que la eliminación cumpla con las regulaciones locales y las recomendaciones de la

12.3 Desecho de las baterías
Retire la batería del dispositivo antes de que se deseche. Incluso las celdas usadas pueden causar
lesiones. Tenga en cuenta la protección del medio ambiente. Las baterías usadas no pertenecen a
la basura doméstica. Debe dejarlas en un punto de recogida de baterías usadas. Tenga en cuenta
que las baterías solo se pueden depositar en la bote de recolección de baterías usadas del
dispositivo cuando se descargan o si, en el caso de baterías que solo están parcialmente
descargadas, ha tomado medidas para evitar cortocircuitos.

Garantía limitada de 3 años
