1. Safety instructions
for 3-phase frequency and voltage converters
1.1 General
1.1.1 Converters may only be operated by persons who
are at least 18 years of age
are physically and mentally fit for this job
have been instructed in operating with converters and proved their
ability for the job to the employer
may be expected to carry out the job they are charged with carefully.
The persons must be assigned the job of operating converters by the
employer.
1.1.2 Converters may only be operated if the operating instructions of the
manufacturer relating to the specific product and these safety
instructions are observed.
1.1.3 The persons entrusted with the operation of converters are to be
familiarised with the necessary safety precautions relating to the
machine. In case of unusual applications the contractor must compile
and issue the necessary additional instructions.
1.2 Operation
1.2.1 The actuation (control) elements and safety equipment must not be
inadmissibly tampered with or their operation prevented.
1.2.2 It must be ensured that the converter is only connected to the voltage
and frequency specified on the nameplate. Choose correct cross
section for extension cords.
1.2.3 Before the converter is commissioned, the machine must be installed
in a stable condition to prevent it from unintentionally tipping over,
slipping or falling.
Safety instructions
SV00051GB.fm 6
1.2.4 The inverter may only be connected to electric power supplies fitted
with residual current devices (RCD). Current impulse sensitive
protection measures according to DIN 0664 standards or universally
current sensitive should be used as RCD protection measures.
1.2.5 The converter must not to be switched on and off by inserting the plug
into the socket or pulling it out. This also applies to the equipment to
be connected to the converter.
1.2.6 The power supply cable of the converter must not be used to pull the
plug out of the socket.
1.2.7 The power supply cable of the external vibrator must not be used to
pull the plug out of the socket.
1.2.8 Electric equipment and material may only be used if they comply with
the operational and local safety requirements. They must be in proper
conditions and they must be maintained in this condition.
1.2.9 It is forbidden to operate converters in hazardous environments.
1.3 Safety checks
1.3.1 Before starting operation, the operator has to check that all control and
safety devices function properly.
1.3.2 Check electric cables regularly for damage.
1.3.3 Converters may only be operated with all the safety equipment.
1.3.4 If defects in the safety equipment or other defects are detected which
impair the safe operation of the internal vibrator, the supervisor is to be
notified without delay.
1.3.5 The machine must to be switched off immediately in case of defects
jeopardizing the operational safety of the equipment.
Danger to life
Safety instructions

1.4 Maintenance
1.4.1 Only use original spare parts. Modifications to this machine including
the adjustment of the maximum engine speed set by the manufacturer
are subject to the express approval of Wacker Neuson. In case of
nonobservance all liabilities shall be refused.
1.4.2 The converter is to be disconnected from the mains supply for
maintenance and repair work.
1.4.3 Work on the electric parts of the machines may only be carried out by
skilled technicians.
1.4.4 The green/yellow protective earth conductor of the connection cable
must be longer so that it does not become detached if the strain relief
clamp fails. There is a danger to life and limb if this connection is
broken. After repair work, check protective earth conductor for
continuity.
1.4.5 All safety devices must be reinstalled properly immediately after
maintenance and repair jobs have been completed.
1.5 Transport
1.5.1 For loading and transporting converters with lifting devices, suitable
attachments are to be provided at the specified attachment points.
1.5.2 On transport vehicles converters are to be secured against slipping or
tipping over.
1.6 Maintenance checks
1.6.1 According to the conditions and frequency of use, converters have to
be checked for safe operation at least once every 6 monts by skilled
technicians, such as those found at Wacker Neuson service stations,
and be repaired if necessary.
Please also observe the corresponding rules and regulations valid in your
country.

3. Description
3.1 Field of application
Wacker Neuson converters place correspondingly processed electric
current at disposal for Wacker Neuson high frequency internal vibrators.
3.2 Description of function
The core part of the inverter constitutes a D.C. and a A.C. rectifier. In
the current source inverter the input current is rectified. In the next step
the generated D.C. current is converted into a 3-phase A.C. (rotary
current) in the A.C. rectifier by way of pulse width modulation. At the
same time the frequency is raised from 50/60Hz.
Wacker Neuson inverters make possible a soft start of the connected
equipment. The output capacity of the inverter can be utilized to its full
extent.
3.3 Switching on the converter
Connect the inverter to a 100V 50-60Hz AC single phase electric
power supply.
3.4 Connecting equipment (e.g. internal vibrators)
Always first switch on the inverter and only then plug in and switch on
the equipment to be used. Do not switch on the equipment (e.g.
internal vibrators) with the switch belonging to the FUE inverter.
Description
T00761GB.fm 10
3.5 Switching off the inverter
Switch of equipment connected to the converter first and only then
proceed to switch off the converter itself. Then pull the power supply
cable plug from the socket.
3.6 Connecting the inverter to power generating units (generators)
The inverter is suitable for connection to power generating units only if
the rated voltage is within the range of 100V+15% under all load
conditions. Only the inverter alone should be connected to the power
generating unit and the power generating unit must be approved,
according to the manufacturers specifications, for use with consumers
(equipment) with capacitors.
A synchronous generator should be used in connection with inverters
whenever possible.
Maintenance
T00813GB.fm 11
4. Maintenance
4.1 Maintenance schedule
Only open the inverter at least 2 minutes after having pulled the plug
from the socket, as this gives the internal capacitors time to discharge
completely.
Do not work on the inverter if it is connected to a power supply
4.2 Repair instructions
The inverter printed circuit board is still alive (under tension) once the
power has been switched off and the plug pulled out of the socket. It is
imperative to wait for the capacitors to discharge (approx. 2 minutes).
Do not try to carry out any repairs with a live circuit.
Repair jobs may only be carried out by trained personnel.’

Maintenance

Pay attention to the following when replacing the inverter‘s printed circuit board:
In the first place unscrew the cover to open housing.
The inverter‘s printed circuit board is fastened and potted to the heat
sink (cooling device), thus presenting a unit. Remove the screws and
then carefully remove the inverter‘s printed circuit board from the
housing. Be careful not to damage the flat seal between the heat sink
and the housing.
Carefully check the conditions of the flat seal between the heat sink
and the housing before inserting a new heat sink / printed circuit board
unit.
Firmly fasten the grounded (earth) conductor at the correct points.
Close the housing after having installed the heat sink / printed circuit
board unit.
Pay attention to the following when replacing the fan:
The fan is fastened to the inside of the housing cover.
To replace the fan open the housing‘s cover and then remove the fan.
Pay attention to the correct connection of the cables once the fan has
been replaced.
It is imperative the turning direction of the fan be checked by switching
on the inverter once the housing has been closed again.
